No progress bar during audio encoding

Since the lack of a progress bar causes many users to think that iDVD has frozen (and forces us to resort to look into the package contents to see if this is the case,) I think that anyone who has had this problem should post a feedback enhancement request to Apple so they realize how important a feature this is.

I filed a report and I'll bet a lot of other Apple users have filed a report. In Dec. 2005, Apple released a bulletin on this encoding problem - their solution was to just wait it out.
A recent post in this forum indicated that the person called Apple Care and received the standard answer - wait it out.
In case you haven't read the other posts, you can do one of the following:
1. From iMovie - export as a Quicktime movie, then reload into a new iMovie project OR.
2. Export iMovie to a video camera and then reload back into a new iMovie project.
These work arounds combine the added audio to the existing video clips so when you reinsert the movie into iMovie, audio and video are combined. Then insert chapter markings, export to iDVD and you'll have your burned DVD in an hour or less - depending on your Mac's horsepower.

  • Progress bar during upload....

    Hi guys,
    i'm a question....
    i've developed an upload function in my jsf application using Myfaces component FileUpload.
    It works very well.
    My question is:does exists something i can add to my upload function to view a progress bar during upload without using Ajax component that gives me some problems?
    Thanks very much

    iloveflex,
    why not use the progress event of the FileReference object?
    Have a look at the Adobe language help for FileReference and you
    will see that the one-line help for this event is "Dispatched
    periodically during the file upload or download operation". The
    example code at the end of that help article gives an example of
    using this event to print out bytes so far and total bytes in the
    trace window. You should be easily able to adapt this to display in
    some other way sutiable for your users.

  • Display progress bar during silent install?

    Hello everybody,
    as the silent installation takes up to several minutes, it would be useful to display a progress bar during the installation. Is there a parameter which allows to enable such a progess window during the installation?
    Thanks for any ideas.

    The progress bar means the system is Auto booting to Safe Mode, not a good sign.
    The reasons it is Auto Booting into Safe mode can vary but more then likely it is either a hard drive problem, failing hard drive, or a corrupted hard drive. I would save all your personal files, data, to an external drive and start over by erasing the complete drive and reinstalling the OS and all your programs. Then copy your data back to the drive. If it happens again then it means the drive is starting to fail and needs to be replaced.

  • No Progress Bar during file transfer

    after installing yosemite recently, when i move a file to and from an external drive, i do not get the transfer bar that shows the progress of the move. any help fixing this? I have tried deleting the "com.apple.finder.plist" from library (& restarted) and repairing permissions. when i go to a different (clean) user account, i can get the progress bar when i move files.

  • Powerhsell progress bar during an operation

    Hi,
    Id like to try and use the progress bar features from
    New-Object
    System.Windows.Forms.ProgressBar
    but I can't find any examples on how to use this during an operation.
    I have a command which I use to create a CSV file with various user information..
    Get-QADUser -sizelimit 0 | export-csv c:\pathtocsv.csv
    what i'd like to do is get the progress bar to be displayed in a separate form whilst the operation from get-qaduser is performed.
    any help appreciated - thanks
    Denis

    Hi Denis,
    your progress-bar form has a property named value (which takes an integer value. Set it to 40 and you get 40% progress on your bar).
    The thing is, in order to calculate the percentage you are at, you need to know the maximum number, the current number
    and find a way to write it during runtime.
    And if I tried it, my boss would tell me to spend my time more usefully (If he caught me at it, that is).
    Good luck if you go for it (and if there's a simple way that has eluded me: I'll be happy to learn a bit more :) )

  • No Progress Bar during file transfering

    Hey everyone,
    I'm using MAc 10.5.8 and when I transfer data, the progress bar is not appearing anymore. Is there any way that i might have accidentally deleted files for that by using CleanMyMac and if so is there any way to get the progress bar back?
    Thanks in advance!

    One thing you could try is to reboot in Safe Mode:

  • No Progress Bar During Wi-Fi File Transfer ?

    Got my new macbook and my old mac mini sharing and tried to copy a movie from one to the other......no progress bar......looked like it was hung up so I quit....should there be a progress bar ?

    ..and exactly how fast should it be ? Like copying from one part of HD to another ? Or like downloading on dialup ?

  • Progress bar during startup - Odd Issue

    What's the problem:
    Upon startup my iMac (early 2009, Mountain Lion) shows a grey progress bar that takes approx. 20 Minutes to complete and then the machine shuts down.
    What have I done before the issue occured:
    Cleaning up cache files and deleting several programms that I wasn't using any more.
    What's the setup of my machine:
    I have one physical harddrive that contains 3 logical partitions: One is of course the Macintosh HD (HFS+), one for data (HFS+), and one Bootcamp (FAT32) partition.
    What have I tried so far:
    When booting into Single User mode I ran the fsck (and fsck_hfs) command which quits after 3 unsuccessfull attempts. The only error message shown is
    "Incorrect Number Of Thread Records (4, someNumber)". I tried this at least 10 times now and the behaviour is always the same, except from the number shown in the thread records message.
    When booting into the recovery partition disk utility shows me the 3 partitions on my HD but shows the Macintosh HD greyed out. When checking the HD it finished without problems, when just checking the Macintosh HD it aborts with an error. Same applies when I try to fix the partition.
    I tried to reinstall Mac OS but the Macintosh HD is not shown in the target disks for installation. I also tried to repartition the disk without any success.
    What's odd about this issue:
    First of all, I can boot into Windows (BootcamP) without any issues and work there.
    Also, when in singel user mode, I can run the 'du' command which shows me all files on my Macintosh HD so the partition itself still sems to be intact.
    What might be a solution:
    I've have come along some comments that said DiskWarrior could fix more issues then Disk Utility but I not yet there to spend 100+ € for it.
    Any other suggestions from you on how to get Mac OS back to work would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks for your replies and proposed solutions. Unfortunately none of them worked.
    @Alberto: Pressing the "D" button upon startup, does not launch the hardware test. Actually nothing realy happens for approx. 60 seconds before the machine starts the boot volume.
    @Linc: I'm not able to erase the OS X boot volume as disk utility tells me it's missing it's mount point.
    @romainst: As far as I remember I was still under 10.8.2. So far I have tried to repair the OS X partition at least 25 times without any changes or a chance to get this thing mounted.
    I wouldn't mind erasing the Mac OS partition and reinstalling it as it only holds systems files and some applications that I could easily reinstall. Still the machine is preventing me from doing so as it will not let me mount this partition. This is becoming increasingly frustrating as the only way out seems to erase the entire HD and start over from scratch - if this is possible at all. Despite the time wasted I would also loose some of my data on the respective partition as I don't have a backup for the entire data partition.

  • IDVD freezes during audio encoding

    Hi there,
    I'm trying to burn a movie (over 90 minutes long) and everything goes well until it begins to encode audio (last step but one) - the application freezes without any apparent reason. I've tried it 3 times already and always the same.
    I'm on a brand new MacBook Pro with standard configuration (1.83 MHz, 512 MB RAM). Any ideas as what needs to be changed tweaked?
    thank you,
    Pablo

    Yes, it is 16 bit. What's more some other strange thing happened: I had some 59 MB free on my hard drice. I imported some 27 MB of video and started working on it and after doing a bit of editing decided to go to iDVD and burn a DVD (actually I wanted to save an image so I can burn it faster on my external burner). The iDVD file was slightly over 3 GB - now it's removed since creating the DVD failed miserably. So I did quick math: 59 - 27 = 32. That's how much space I should have available on my hard drive. But guess what? It's only 15 GB left there. Somehow 17 GB gone missing!!! How do I get it back? I'm really afraid of trying iDVD again as making another DVD can render my MacBook Pro unusable...
    Please, help!
    Pablo

  • Deep Sleep - Is it normal to show a grey progress bar during boot?

    I've just downloaded the Deep Sleep widget from Axionic Labs. So far, it works wonderfully.
    I really like the idea of Deep Sleep. No power consumption, quick boot and same state it was before Deep Sleeping.
    However, I noticed that when I power my MBP on (after Deep Sleeping) it shows the grey boot screen with a grey bar below being filled. Actually, it's several small grey bars being filled.
    Is it normal to show those grey bars when your MBP is booting after a deep sleep?
    Here's a photo that I took of it: http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/2039/dsc00787uz.jpg

  • Interesting performance anomaly during video encode

    I just noticed an interesting anomaly while my iDVD6 project was encoding video. I found that if I cover up the 'Creating Your DVD' progress bar and preview window with a Finder window, that video encoding seems to move a whole lot faster. I could tell by listening to the disk activity which seemed to be occurring about twice as fast. When I moved the Finder window away and exposed progress bar/preview window, then disk activity slowed down.
    I opened Activity Monitor and looked at CPU% which showed about 70-80% with progress bar/preview window exposed. After covering up, the CPU% increased from 125-150% So apparently exposing progress bar/preview window slows things down quite a bit during video encode. I tried same trick during audio encode, and it made no difference. CPU% was about 7-8% during audio encode.
    I was wondering if anyone in this discussion group noticed this performance anomaly previously.
    Paul

    Hi Paul
    Yes I noted some relatively related phenomena during the rendering process
    in FinalCutExpress that just selecting Finder seemed to speed things up.
    Second: Please don't rely on the Activity monitor and most so when it says
    iDVD doesn't answer. It's just rubisch. iDVD keeps on working - just wait and see.

  • SAP BPC 7.5 Client, Silent install but with progress bar, can it be done?

    Hi All,
    I need to uninstall the BPC 7 Client and then deploy 7.5 to around 250 users accross the country.
    We have SCCM (SMS) in place so will be using that.
    I have the uninstall of 7 sorted and I have the response file etc sorted for the silent install of 7.5 and the install runs, silently, no issue.
    Is there a way though that one can "turn on" the progress bar during the install? So that users dont shutdown or disconnect in the 15min it takes the install to run.
    By way of example, in the SAP Business objects enterprise client on can configure the Silent install so that although it never prompts the user for a reponse there is a progress bar that runs, indicating that there is an install in progress.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bryan

    Hi Sebastian,
    No worries, I am using a pop up countdown so the users have some idea on progress. Would love to know why the install runs for over 15min.
    In the above case the uninstall was easy as we had deployed using MS AppV so it was just a case of deleting the advert in SCCM and the application was pulled from the users desktops.
    For 7.5 I am using a vbscript with following to uninstall:
    The install string pulled from the clients registry uninstall folder:
    RunCommand Chr(34) & "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{EC8753EF-EE78-48B5-A4D0-FBBD237B5D53}\setup.exe" & Chr(34) & " -runfromtemp -l0x0009UNINSTALL -removeonly"
    We create a custom link, so this deletes it.
    DeleteFile "c:\Users\Public\Desktop\SAP BPC 7.5.lnk"
    You should be able to create something similar for 7.0 & 7.1
    Hope that helps,
    Bryan

  • Progress bar with AJAX ?

    Hi all,
    I have a quite long application process running ... I would like to display a progress bar during the task, but the following doesn't work (it works well if I dont use AJAX) :
    function myFunction() {
    // The css "display" property of this element is set to "none" initially
    // IDProgressBarRegion contains the progress bar in gif format
    document.getElementById('IDProgressBarRegion').style.display = 'block';
    var ajaxRequest = new htmldb_Get(null,&APP_ID.,'APPLICATION_PROCESS=myProcess',0);
    ajaxResult = ajaxRequest.get();
    if(ajaxResult) {
    // do something here
    document.getElementById('AjaxLoading').style.display = 'none';
    ajaxRequest = null;
    }

    Hello,
    Instead of the the standard .get() method which is synchronous and locks up the browser display, your going to want to use the asynchronous method of the htmldb_Get() object there is an example here,
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=11933:62
    For long running on demand process's this is what your going to want to use.

This gives me what I want, which is a progress bar to play the sound from any specific point. It's not quite as intuitive and easy as in Tiger but it does the trick.

  • Audio encoding hang work around

    After scouring this discussion and the internet, it seems the following is true:
    1) The source of the audio encoding delay is the conversion of the audio to an iDVD friendly format;
    2) There is indeed progress being made even though the activity monitor may say not or you may get a not responding message;
    3) There are two work arounds that work well, but with a properly debugged iDVD we should not have to do this nonsense. Here's to iLife '07 fixing this mess, hopefully.
    So, as to #1, even if you first convert the audio and then lay down the audio to the iMovie project there are still delays, especially with longer movies. It is quite apparent that this is an iDVD bug as other programs convert audio files quickly. (As to camera audion, you have to make sure you are in 16 bit with your camera.)
    As to #2, by looking at the package contents (Command I) you can see the progress of the audio encoding even when you think it is hung and even if you get a not responding message. To do this open your local disk, go to documents which is where iDVD puts them, and look for the title of your project, highlight it and hit Command I. Note the bytes, close the info dialog, and then reopen again. You may need to do this a few times depending on RAM, clock speed, etc., but you should see a change in bytes after awhile. If so, there is progress being made, as painstakingly slow as it may be. (A 1h53m movie took about 40 hours on my G5 with 1.5MB RAM! Not acceptable!)
    As to #3, the same thing is being accomplished, by different means. In both case you are creating a new file that handles the audio encoding on the way out and then reimporting with audio encoded. In the first, you export to your camera and then turn around and import into a new iMovie project. Add your chapters and then open from iDVD. Save as a disc image and then burn from the Disc Utility application which can be found under Utilities.
    The other work around is sharing to Quicktime and then reimporing to iMovie as a new project, and do the same as above. Following the latter, it took me 40 hours plus before took about 5 hours.
    I hope this saves you all some time.
    iMac 20" G5 iSight   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1.5GB RAM, Ext HD 250GB

    I think I may have found a solution to my problem. It seems
    to be related to how much resources(RAM) I have available to the
    program. If I try a lower resolution setting it works fine. If I
    set the priority of the program high I can use higher
    resolutions.
