No progress compressing
Ive just imported an mp4 video file into compressor so i can make a dvd out oif it. Ive set the quality for dvd best quality 90 minutes and set my destination.
I clicked submit yesterday and the status is still saying"preparing". Should a film of 1 hour 15 minutes really take this long or have i done something wrong?
I seem to have made some progress AND possibly found where the issue lay.
I had originally finished my editing and chose the 'send to compressor' option. When i cancelled the compressor job within compressor and shut down the application, I went back to FCP to shut it down and it refused to let me shut it, saying it was in the process of compressing a clip via compressor (can't remember the exact message). I had to 'force' FCP to shut.
Things however would still not work, even though i decided to use the two step process of exporting the clip from the FCP timeline into a 'self-contained' movie, then bringing that into Compressor manually - if you know what I mean. However, the original problem still persisted.
I then cancelled the job, went into the preferences section and changed the 'cluster option ' from 'copy source to cluster as needed' to 'Never copy files to/from cluster'.
I restarted my computer and then 'manually' imported the self contained movie and it now seems to be working fine.

Hi
I have small but painful problem regarding jpeg format data info, i have a bunch of images and i would like to find out which ones are in progressive compression mode, so i can save them in baseline, i assume it's about 5% of all the images i have, and going through all of them 'save as optimized' is not a solution, if i make action for save as and close, it will take that action on all of the images in specified folder.
Is there any way PS or Bridge can determine jpeg compression format in more convenient way? or any other software for that matter..
tyThis will write the results for a selected folder to the desktop....

FCP XML to Premiere Different Frame Rate
Hello,
I have imported an FCP 7 XML into Premiere 5.04. When my sequence was in FCP it was at a frame rate of 23.976 at 720P. When it came into Premiere, though, it had changed to 59.94 fps at 720P.
I wonder how this has happened and if there is any way to change it back to 23.976 fps? Or should I just leave it as is?
I tried copying all of the clips within the 59.94 fps sequence into a new sequence that was 23.976, but this resulted in partial frame gaps (like a quarter of a frame missing). Sometimes you wouldn't even notice this during playback, but other times you do. So I assume this is not the best way to change it back to 23.976.
Thank you.Hi Colin,

Greetings everyone,
I am experiencing some weird behavior while using External Subtitles, e.g. Playing an AVI file with PS3MediaServer works fine but playing the very same AVI file with external subtitles gives me the video with subtitles and no sound.
My Server configuration is as follows :
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
RAM :2048 Mo
OS : Archlinux 2.6.37-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Mar 8 08:34:35 CET 2011 x86_64
Target : Playstation 3 Slim, firmware 3.60
Here are the various Sofware versions I use :
PMS version I am using is PS3 Media Server 1.21.0 (built from AUR, PKG: pms-svn)
Java version is Java: 1.6.0_22-Sun Microsystems Inc.
MPlayer version is "MPlayer SVN-r32792-4.5.2 (C) 2000-2011 MPlayer Team" and so is "MEncoder SVN-r32792-4.5.2 (C) 2000-2011 MPlayer Team"
TSMuxer version is "1.10.6-10"
FFMpeg version is "FFmpeg version git-2611e52"
The network configuration of the server is : 192.168.0.20, netmask 255.255.255.0 ; 100MBits Full Duplex (Wired)
The network configuration of the Playstation 3 is : 192.168.0.15, netmask 255.255.255.0 ; Auto (Wired, no WiFi !)
Both are linked on a 100MBits Switch : Playstation 3 <--> Switch 100 Mbits <--> PS3 Media Server

So, obviously here, the only thing which changes from before was that, this time, the PS3 Media Server did a transcode/remux of the file (for the subtitles to be streamed)

This file is well played by PS3 Media Server.
I am quite confused with this issue ; did anyone experienced the same thing ?
Best Regards,Having the same problem. I'm watching all of my movies without subs now, because transcoding kills the 5.1 audio (no problems with 2 channel audio). A workaround is posted in the comments of the pms-svn package.
I will post the URL to this thread to another thread with probably the same problem (mplayer/x264). I have not yet seen a real solution to this, and I'm not really familiar with the bugzilla's from both projects.
Other threads with similar problems:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=112219 (devede also uses mplayer and x264)
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/22654 (related bug in Archlinux)
http://bugzilla.mplayerhq.hu/show_bug.cgi?id=1865 (related bug in mplayer)
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=115165 (this thread)
Another workaround might be to trick pms into using ffmpeg or vlc rather than mencoder. I'm also streaming to a ps3 - I didn't try it, but it could be as easy as temporarily changing settings inside the profile for a ps3-client.

Some videos don't play on iPod
Hello Folks
I've sorted out the pictures problem wit my classic.
But now the Videos, When i first loaded a bath of videos (Encoded with any video converter as .mp4) to my Classic 2009, they played fine on the ipod and itunes, yesterday tried to load another videos (encoded with E.M.C Total Video Converter) as mp4 extension.
All the videos play well on itunes. but those i tried to load yesterday yes they trasferred to ipod, I got no message like "cannot transfer to ipod", they transferred well.
When i clicked videos> and selected one of them, they played briefly for about 5 s. and then the menu returned back....
I tried resetting, restoring and no avail... so here's the info i gathered with MediaInfo
Video THAT PLAYS WELL on IPOD and ITUNES

Can't render preview on some clips
In my timeline I've got a bunch of clips - some have yellow lines above them in the render bar, some red, some green. And then some have no lines at all, it's these that are the problem.
When I tell it to 'render preview' it will make all the clips with yellow and red lines turn to green just fine, but does nothhing with the clips that have no lines above them at all, it's like it thinks 'these clips are so easy to play I dont need to render preview, they dont have effects or anything on them', however it is sorely mistaken because when I play back the preview everything plays fine except those clips, which stutter and skip (because they are uncompressed HD video).
Is there a way to force every clip to 'render preview', not just the ones Premiere thinks need it?Thanks Colin, here is my info:

I'd like to keep editing it there though, if there's some way I could tell premiere to cache the files even though they look like an agreeable format... -

FCPX export: Mutliple video tracks in MP4!?
Hello
I noticed something strange today. FCPX sometimes integrates two video tracks in MP4-Files when exporting. Can anybody explain why this happens?
I exported a bunch of MP4s with different lengths out of FCPX using "Share for Apple Devices 720p". (Same settings for every file: 1280x720px, Format: Computer, Quick Conversion)
Then I tried to import them in Compressor. Some worked, some didn't. So I started to have a closer look at them, trying to find the differences.
MediaInfo revealed the following:
Normal MP4-File, working in Compressor:

So the working files contained one AVC-Video track, while the others contained an AVC- and a JPEG-track.
Anybody knows, how this happens?

How to avoid video file transcoding
Hello,
This is something I have been struggling with for quite a while. Perhaps you could help me with it.
I am using Photodex Producer to create slide shows from pictures and videos I take. Then I get Producer to generate an HD mpeg2 video file (other formats are also available) with mpeg audio format. Finally I feed such files into Encore 6 to create BD disks. Producer allows for a few parameters to be set but I could not find a way to generate the mpeg2 video files so that I could avoid transcoding in Encore. I looked at the Encore Help | Importing assets page and the recipe there seems to be simple but it does not work for me... Perhaps it is too simple? It does not seem to be enough to use mpeg2 video with mpeg audio and 23.976 fps. Encore always insists on transcoding these files.
Here is an example of one such file (courtesy of mediainfo):

Could you please help me with this? What is it in this file that forces the need of transcoding in Encore.
Thank you,
PeterStan and Jeff, thank you for your comments and help.
I finally found a way to produce a lossless .avi file from Producer. In ver. 6 of Producer it is under "Publish->For Computers->Custom Video File". In the window that pops up you select Format Type: Custom and Format Settings: Format: AVI-Uncompressed. They allow you to set the resolution, frame rate and a few other things. The resulting .avi files were about 10GB for each minute of video (1080p, 23.976 fps).
In this particular project I had 4 files each about 100GB in size. A bit awkward to deal with, size-wise, but still manageable. I imported these files into Encore (did not go through Premiere) and BD transcoded them using all the high quality options I could find. The resulting BD is ok. I think it is noticeably better than what I was getting when I generated mpeg2 files from Producer and then had them transcoded in Encore. The main difference is less distortion in fast changing scenes. I just noticed that in Producer there is a "high-quality" option that I did not see (I used "normal quality"). I'll try it next time (likely will give even bigger .avi files).
I like this new approach as it improves the quality of the final product. I will likely use it as my new workflow. Again, thank you for your help. Please comment if you see anything that could be improved in this process.
I will mark this question as answered. Well, the question was not really answered but the proposed workaround appears to work well. -
Distorted picture while editing MP4 file in Adobe Premiere CS5
hi,
I am trying to edit an MP4 file in the Adobe Premiere CS5 and having a distorted picture every few seconds.
When I am playing the original file using VLC or Media Player it looks OK.
Untill now I didn't have problems with editing MP4 files.
Did anybody had similar problem (and a solution )?

Thanks,
MikiNot a problem; not scolding, just suggesting that users there might be of more help, since CS5/CS5.5 is a whole different animal than CS4.
I suspect that, if setting playback to full resolution didn't help, there's not much you can do with these files as they are. You'll have to convert them to something else. Does the break up appear when you step through the video frame by frame? If not, you could use AME to convert these to something else, which will then let you edit a little more effectively in Premiere Pro.
EDIT: Sorry, missed that you said that exporting retained the blobs. In light of that, you'll have to look at a third-party converter to flip these. MPEG Streamclip for Windows might work. -

I have the latest Quicktime, and I have reinstalled Premiere Pro CS6 a few times already. If anyone knows a fix for this, I would greatly appreciate it. My system and clip info are found below. Thank you, Robert.

I had quicktime files that would play in the quicktime player from the desktop, but wouldn't import the files "the file has no audio or video streams". I had just reinstalled quicktime, and Premier with no change. Finally realized that we had Barracuda protection that was at fault. It was preventing communication to the quicktime codec and thus Premier could not interpret the footage. Another symptom, I would also launch After Effects and it would tell me that quicktime wasn't installed.
I solved this by uninstalling Barracuda. We reported the fault to Barracuda, and have not seen any change in the software. -
Below is the information I received from Mediainfo. Is there a way I can figure out the the maximum Bit Rate Capability with this? Lately I have have had movies stop half way through and I think I think the MBPS is too large on some of them. On some moveies Mediainfo will give me the MBPS.
Thank you

APE-10 Video does not play in WMP
I created a video in HD 720p/30 MPEG-2 format, but it will not play in Windows Media Player 11 or Windows Media Center.
WMP reports: 'This video will not open. It may have been created with a codec that is not supported by WMP. Contact codec provider'. So here I am.
Video/audio plays fine in DivX player.
I created the same video in MPEG-2 Std DVD, and it played fine, just not the quality I wanted.
Are there codecs for this format available for WMP that are not included in APE-10, or Windows 7 Ultimate? If so how do I get and install them so the video will play in WMP.
Thanks
DougI do not use DivX for anything. It is just a player on my computer, I use when I can't open something in WMP. DivX usually opens anything.
Here is the report file from Mediainfo on the file in question. Not sure what 'MPEG-PS' is but I do not see any reference to DivX.
Can you tell anything from this?
Thanks
DN

Color on exported video on Adobe Premiere Pro Is a bit off from the original source video
I have both Cyberlink powerdirector 10.0 and Adobe Premiere Pro C6
I noticed that adobe premere cs6. when exporting the video.. colors are a little off.. never matching the same tones as the original
source
i took a screenshot so you can see what i mean.. Notice Adobe is a a little mor orange. is there a way to fix this? Cyberlink powedirector always matches the source color when you export it. except Adobe Premiere Pro CS 6
i have windows 7 64 bit (Nvidia GeForce GTX 670MThanks for answering. I ddi notice different media players show colors different. But on the screenshot i just showed you.. all 3 are from the same media player.
For some reason everytime i export a video from Adobe premiere pro the color is never the same as the source on media player. I tried it on 4 different videos. Other software programs like cyberlink power director export the video with no color change.
1)The original source from the picture is a mpeg-4 (avc)
2)i always use wmv codec to encode all videos. So the shot from Premiere Pro was using WMV codec. and the other shot (cyberlink powerdirector) was also wmv to encde.
3) I even tried to see if maybe i used a different video format to encode it would fix the slight color change. like h264 and mov.. but nope still same issue
4) I did what you told me to show the source and exported video on Adobe Premiere and really weird. the exporterd video from Adobe Premiere now shows the exact color as the source.. but the exported video from Cyberlinkpowerdirector shows the color a bit different.
Heres the media codec information
