No purchased Mountain Lion in Appstore with new Macbook Pro

Hi there,
I purchased a brand new Apple 13" Macbook Pro-3rd i5-2.5ghz two days ago. Now wanting to install an SSD drive i'm preparing by getting my OSX onto an external drive to make a clean install onto the new SSD.
The Macbook came with 10.8.4 pre-installed, which I updated to 10.8.5, flawlessly. So, Mountain Lion pre-installed and updated, good.
Now that I want to get Mountain Lion onto an external drive for when I go for the clean install on the SSD, I start looking for it in the appstore under my purchased apps: Mountain Lion nowhere to be found.
I Google the problem: "Mountain Lion OSX not showing as purchased in Appstore"
Same apple id used? Yes I did.
"It's probably under your hidden purchases, check your account and show hidden purchases!" No it's not there as well.
If I search the market for Mountain Lion it shows up... with a nice pricetag of 17,99 euros.
How is this possible? I registered my Apple ID correctly, was able to update to 10.8.5 just fine, but the Mountain Lion OSX still appears as un-purchased in the Appstore, which is not letting me download it (for free..)
Suggestions?
Best regards,
Sylvain

Thank you for your clear answer! All the answers from Google I found apparently came from people that purchased Mountain Lion from the App Store instead of having it pre-installed, which got me confused.
I purchased the Macbook new from an authorised reseller, not directly from an Apple Store. However the store is pretty big and common in Holland (www.dixons.nl) so that won't be an issue.
So you're saying I can simple put the SSD in, boot with command+R while being connected to the internet and install through the recovery partition directly of the internet.
Seems like a very easy system, I guess i'm just used to old fashion having the operating system on an external drive or cd in order to make a clean install.
*Will it be a problem to leave the original HDD in alongside with the new SSD? I guess in the boot menu you can choose what to do with each drive?
I will be using the original 500gig HDD for storage, simply installing the SSD in order to boost he performance of the Macbook.

  • Purchased audiobooks disappeared after syncing with new MacBook Pro

I had my iPhone synced with a Windows laptop which got really slow and decided to replace it with a MacBook Pro. In between the last sync with the laptop and the first sync with the MacBook Pro I had bought a couple of audiobooks through the iTunes Store. After syncing the iPhone with the new Macbook everything was fine except the audiobooks which we gone. Originally I thought it would work as with the apps from the AppStore that I could download them again free of charge by just giving my apple ID and password. However this was not the case. Can someone please help me with this as losing these audiobooks would suppose a more considerable loss of money compared to just apps.
    Thank you,
    Arne

You should have transferred the purchases to your computer: File>Devices>transfer Purchases
At this point, all you can do is contact itunes support, explain your situation, and hope they grant a redownload.

  • Old Mac running Mountain Lion 'sees' Canon IP5000, new MacBook pro will not. No driver available from canon. Is there a way of transfering whatever is working from old mac to new?

I have two older macs running Mountain Lion that have been upgraded over the years from Leopard. They have continued to be able to print to a Canon IP5000 and use a driver that is fully functional. On the new MacBook Pro, the printer is found, but no driver is available for Mountain Lion from apple or Canon. Is there a way of getting the driver info from the old mac so that it will work on the new one?

Sorry, it says "New Event," not "New Entry." My bad.

A 2008 Mac won't have originally shipped with Lion. You need to install 10.6.8 on the computer, log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID you used to purchase Mountain Lion, click on the Purchases tab, and download it.

  • Mountain lion won't install on macbook pro 3,1

We have a MacBook Pro  version 3,1 computer with 10.6.8 running.
Plenty of disc left, 2 Gb RAM.
The install process goes in a loop, from app store to www.apple.com/osx to pushing the "upgrade" button and back to the app store page.
I'm not really a Mac kind of person, it can tell.
I ran a hard disk utility to check and correct permissions but it didn't help.
any thoughts out there?  I just want to run lightroom 5 and it needs 10.7 or better.
    Can I buy 10.7 someplace?
    Thanks
    Darrell

    Hello darrellsmith,
While i currently have no solution or suggestion for your problem, i would like to mention that even though Mountain Lion technically supports your model MacBook Pro, i advise against upgrading to mountain lion. It will put significant strain on your system resources and most tasks will perform very slow. If you really do need Mountain Lion, at least upgrade your RAM to 4GB. I know that 2GB is the minimum requirements but you'll lose those 2GB by just booting up and starting Safari. Add the software you want to use on top of that and your performance will be severely impacted.
Also, make sure you have a good backup of all your data. Upgrading an older system and skipping a major release in the process can create some issues or bring issues to light that you already had but just were not aware of.
A possible solution could be to create a bootable installer on an external drive, instructions can be found here.
For your system, OS X 10.6.8 would be the recommended OS and will give the smoothest performance. You will, as you've noticed, be limited to the applications you can run.

  • How well will Mountain Lion run on the following MacBook Pro?

Thinking about biting the bullet and upgrading to Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro. My specs are as follows:
    MacBook Pro 15"
    (Late 2008 model MacBookPro5,1)
    Intel core 2 duo 2.53Ghz
    8GB RAM
    1TB HD with 390GB free
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
So, how well will Mountain Lion run on this configuration? Currently I'm finding my computer annoyingly slow, so am wondering whether an upgrade was worth trying or not?
Any advice would be most appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Joe.

Sorry, I should have been clearer - that's what I was thinking, which is why I was asking the question. I thought that if I was going to all the effort of a reformat etc that I should just upgrade to Mountain Lion while I was at it, but didn't want to do that if it was going to run really slowly anyway and then have to go through it all again to go back to Snow Leopard.

So, have you had any personal experience of Mountain Lion running fine on this MacBook Pro? I know that officially it will run, but I'm wondering about the "real life" experience of it running on this model.
Anyone out there able to share their expeience?
