NO QT picture, only sound in Safari

I just can't find an answer to this one. All I get is sound on any QT movie from apple.com (ie a top tip of the day) but no picture at all.
I would have thought my computer was powerful enough?

To be honest I am using Firefox anyway,even though the QT thing is fixed. Something in Safari cooky handling means it is rejected by some websites when I try to log in and view my account.
The mozilla thing is only relevant if you have an intel processor I believe, it doesnt look like you have.

Airplay on AppleTV: no picture only sound

I can get AirPlay on my iPad to play only one type of video on AppleTV, YouTube. But nothing else works. Any other video, for example from New York Times app, the WSJ app, Netfix or from the iPad PBS app, even though they give me the option to select AppleTV, I get only sound and no video on AppleTV. The Airplay icon does appear on the ATV screen but says Unknown/Untitled and only provide sound but no picture. I've updated everything, ATV (just last night), my iMac (last week) and my iPad and iPhone (both yesterday afternoon). Each component has the latest software updates. Still the only video I can view using AirPlay from my iPad is YouTube, which is already an option of the ATV menu. So what's the point of Airplay? Am I missing something?

That's not quite how Apple promoted its capability. Besides, the Airplay option appears as a choice in the drop-down menu of all videos I play on my iPad, but again all the appears on the TV screen is an Unknown icon and sound. I'd think that if it could play on the iPad, it would play on the Apple TV.
as already stated, the airplay icon will show as it is able to stream the audio to an appeltv.
individual apps will need to build in support for video airplay, and at present this option it not available to developers in the SDK.

No Picture Only Sound in ProRes Compression file conversion

I have used Export in QuickTime 7 to make a smaller file of my 20 GB movie, but when I open it, only sound plays. The original file format is ProRes 4444 compression. Supposedly (according to the house that did digital scans of my films and rendered them with this compression) I can convert to smaller file sizes by using Final Cut Pro or QuickTime Pro. I chose Export, Medium file size and got for format: AAC, Stereo (L R), 32.000 kHz H.264, 320 x 240, Millions; Movie FPS: 15.00; Playing FPS: 15.00; Data Size: 5.13 MC. Does anyone know why I only get sound? Is the codec the problem? If anyone is knowledgeable about ProRes compression and converting to a more standard version I would be very grateful (or if you can point me to someone who is)!!

I did what you said but it still didn't work. In addition, now I have lost audio on all files. I thought maybe my volume control got turned down or off, so I clicked on it, and got this dialog box: “There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware. This program will now close.” I did that and was asked if the hardware I'm looking for was already connected to my computer; not knowing what to say, I said yes and got a list of Installed Hardware. The only one which looked like it might apply was “Generic Volume;” but when I clicked on it it said the device was working properly.
Assuming I can get my volume working again, it seems like there is some tweak that I am missing that should get the pic to play. Since the audio was playing and Apple says ProRes files can “easily be transcoded to distribution formats like H.264,” this should work, right? If I get the volume working again, perhaps I can keep trying different options for the settings. Otherwise, do you know where I can go to find help? Apple doesn’t offer any support for its software (a good reason for these Discussion Lists); and I don’t know where to turn. I appreciate the time you’ve spend troubleshooting this.

I just bought the new JVC gy-hm100 camcorder that records directly into QT format. How ever, when I import the files to my new mac pro, I only get sound and no picture. Why???

It appears to use MPEG-2 as the video codec which would require you to purchase the Apple MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20 at the Apple Store).
The camera may also be supported by iMovie '08 or '09 directly from the camera which would allow conversion to an editable format.

Problem is worsening, I think. Now, just about any clip I try to import has no sound. I just tried an MP4 video, and it actually seemed to have work, until I realized the sync is miles away from being correct. I must have some major problems with my system; I seem to be the only one struggling with this.

After an apparent power drain that caused household lights to dim, the picture on my tv disappeared. The sound is still playing, but I cannot bring up any menus or anything. HELP!

Try leaving it unplugged from power for a half hour or so. If the problem persists, it may require servicing unfortunately.

I have a big problem. I have Premiere Element 10. It has worked without any problem for many months, but now i have a prob...
All the files are i n the project. When i try to play them i can´t see the pics anymore i only hear the sound. Also the safe frame is visible but i can´t take it away.
When i double click on some scenes there is no pics it´s only a white frame, men ljudet fungerar

No video, only sound in Safari embedded YouTube videos

I've noticed this past week that on both iPad and iPhone, videos from YouTube which previously played straight from Safari (embedded in a blog etc.) suddenly no longer play. That is, on the iPad it tries to play – I get sound but no video; I just see the original web page with a black box where the video should go. On the iPhone it doesn't even get that far. iPad is currently using the 4.3.5 system software. iPhone is a 4 running 4.3.3. Is anybody else having this problem, and any idea of a fix?

Thanks for the quick reply. I've tried each of those now on both devices and it hasn't made any difference I'm afraid. I've found a work around – clicking the YouTube icon lower right of the video frame opens the video in YouTube in a new tab, and that plays fine, providing I haven't already tried to play it in its embeded location. This is a little problematic as I'm hosting a site with YouTube content, and other people accessing it via an iOS device won't know whether they need to click the icon until after they've tried hitting the play button in the centre...
The video on the page below is a good example. Embed code is straight out of YouTube, and Syndication is set to on. Android users and iPads with older software versions have had no problems it seems.

I have read your post on how your video will not show picture, but the audio will work on your Windows 8.1 computer. Does the video appear and then disappear using media player software? Does this occur when streaming videos on YouTube? Did you perform Windows or HP updates before this issue occured? Does the entire screen go blank, turn a different color or just show blank on the video window you are attempting to view? I would be happy to help you, but first I would encourage you to post your product number for your computer. Movies & series No picture only sound

How do I get my storm 2. 9520 to play movies, series etc it keeps giving a error msg '' this format is not supported '' which I cannot understand as the 9300 seems to play just about any format Please help.

the 9300 supports more media encoders than the old 9520. You can re-encode the video files you want to play on the 9520.
I suggest you use Handbrake on Windows/Linux, and reencode the video using MPEG4 video encoder and AC3 audio encoder, encapsulated into an MP4 file.

Well, all I can tell you is that if your file is an m4a with chapter markers, those markers having suitably sized images attached, and you drag it into the Music area of iTunes (so that it appears as a song) in List view, when you play it and then command-click on the small image in the header (next to the progress bar) you should see your embedded images.
If this isn't happening the best place to ask would be in the GarageBand forum: my own experience of GB is rather out of date and in any case I've never used it for podcasting.

there is no mirror button, nor is one hidden underneath anywhere.

Not all apps are enabled for airplay, this is up to the developer to do. If you want to mirror, it cannot be turned on within an app. You need to bring up control centre, select airplay and toggle ON mirroring.
