No Quicktime audio controllers

This will be posted to both the Safari and Quicktime forums. On my G4 dual 1.25 PowerMac with Leopard 10.5.8, none of the Webkit browsers (Safari, Omniweb, iCab, Shiira) will show Quicktime sound controllers on either of my pages http://www.animalhead.com/coyote.html or http://www.animalhead.com/newcoyote.html. (All 3 files on both pages are .wav.) All of the Gecko browsers (Firefox, Camino, SeaMonkey) will show controllers on both. Safari on my VirtualPC will show controllers on both pages. Opera will show controllers for the newcoyote page on both the Mac and PC sides, but not for the coyote page. (coyote uses the embed HTML tag, newcoyote uses the object tag.)
Whereas on my G4-500 PowerMac with the latest Tiger, all of the Webkit browsers show sound controllers on both pages.
I looked at all of the Preferences and Quicktime Preferences items in Quicktime, but cannot see anything that looks turned off / disabled. audio/wav is enabled.
Our web site also has some video Quicktime pages, and they work on both machines.
What should I try next to fix this problem?

This problem was solved by moving the file "VLC Plugin.plugin" from /Library/Internet Plug-Ins to a subfolder "Disabled Plug-Ins" thereof. Get Info on the file yields "VLC Webbrowser Plugin - Version 1.0.0" with creation and mod dates July 15, 2008.

  • Quicktime audio file to CD for playing on a CD Player can you help

I have a quicktime audio file (which seems to show as a movie?) which I have on my desktop.  I want to burn it to a CD so that my uni tutor can listen to it on a CD player.  Can you help.  I get all the way to the burn thing in disk utilities, but it won't burn.  I'm thinking it needs to be saved in another format?

Oh, thank you Martin.  I've cracked it right the way to burning the file, but it doesn't play on a CD player.  I definitely brought it through iTunes, but it shows on the CD as a Quicktime file.  I think this may be the problem.  Liz

  • Importing Quicktime Audio File into itunes

I have a couple quicktime audio files that I'm trying to import into my itunes library. When I try to simply drag them into my itunes library it will not accept them.
Also I tried using the import control from the itunes window, but when I choose the the quicktime file to import it also will not go into my library. These files where orginally windows media files inwhich I converted over using the "flip4mac" program to convert the windows media files to quicktime files, but neither file type will import into itunes.
These files were simply voice recordings from a digital recorder, how do I get these audio files into my itunes library?? ... Thanks

Ya, looks like the file is still a real WMA file and all that application did was give your QT the ability to play WMA files perhaps? I am not familiar with that one. You need to locate a WMA to MP3 file converter. Some that come to mind are MediaMonkey, EasyWMA, and there are many others. Those first two might both be shareware programs and I don't have any first hand experience with them. I really haven't had the need to do this type of conversion (yet) so haven't looked into the various applications. Perhaps someone reading this can chime in if they know any free ones that work.
In the meantime, hit up versiontracker.com or download.com and do a search and see what you find. But the root cause of your problem is that the file is still in the wrong format for iTunes and iPod use.

the other option would be to use an App like Audiobook Builder to stitch the tracks together in upto 12 hour long sections and sends to itunes automatically. It is available in the App Store. There are others available, Audiobook binder is free

  • Bug report: Quicktime Audio recording with multichannel interfaces

I have problems recording audio in Quicktime using a multichannel audio interface. I tried two firewire interfaces, an Apogee Ensemble and the RME Fireface. Both are supported by core audio and work as expected with any audio sequencer such as Garage band, Logic, Studio One etc. However, both show the same strange behavior in Quicktime 10.2 and as well in iMovie and FCPx:
First, i selected interface channels 1 / 2 in the audio-midi-settings window as the stereo input source. In the quicktime audio recording window, I select the audio interface (fireface or ensemble) as the audio source. I expected that the recorded audio would be stereo. However, regardless of these settings, the recording is always mono. Actually quicktime records only channel 1 and ignores all other channels. This might be a bug in Quicktime with regard to the handling of multichannel interfaces. The same bug occurs in Final Cut Pro X and iMovie, which seem to use the same audio engine as Quicktime. However, Garage band and Logic do not show the problem.
It does also not seem to occur with simple stereo interfaces. I tried a Logitech C920 webcam with a built-in stereo microphone and a Zoom Q2HD recorder used in stereo USB microphone mode. In both cases, the recordings in FCPx are 2 channel stereo as it should be. Thus the problem is specific for multichannel interfaces.
Can anybody reproduce or explain this behaviour?
I am using OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), MacBook Pro 15 Retina 2.3 GHz.
    Regards, Werner

It seems that apple has reacted to this bug report without notice. Recently I tried it once more with quicktime and an apogee ensemble interface. Surprisingly, the problem did not occur anymore. I have not tested it with iMovie and FCPX yet.
The sad side of Apples support strategy is that I spent time and money searching for a workaround without knowing that Apple had removed the bug in the meantime.

  • Why Is Quicktime Audio Always Garbled On My PCs?

Why is Quicktime Audio always garbled to the point of complete uselessness on my PC?
I have downloaded the latest version, although it has been garbled on every other version for the last ten years anyway.
I have set the audio to safe mode.
I have changed the Playback from going through Total Recorder to going through the sound card.
Nothing ever changes. Quicktime has never had intelligible audio on my PC.

I´m having the same exact problem. Does anybody have a solution?

  • In need of a flash/html5/quicktime audio/video media player for a website

    Hello everybody,
I'm looking to get some kind of audio/video media player for a website. I would like it to be customizable, and also most likely read a play list from some kind of text file or xml file.
Normally, I would look for some kind of flash media player, but recently the site might be read from Apple mobile devices also, which of course not flash which might be a problem, so I'm also looking into other options such as some kind of QuickTime media player web application or even html5 player.
I do not personally know how to code in flash or HTML 5, so I would be willing to hire someone to help out.
Is HTML 5 for long enough that it would play on most current browsers? I would imagine that HTML 5 might not work on older browsers–is this correct?
I don't know of any QuickTime media players - any links to get me started?
Does anyone know some solutions to this flash / apple issue?

Looks like you are getting a very good lesson in why Flash is the best choice for a Web media player.... plentilful, easily customizable, and is a "right now" solution. Good luck on getting your viewers to download and install the codex need to play an Ogg video!
To add the extra accessabilty for the iPhone etc, use swfobject to provide an alternative video file type... the .mov
Here is an example of a Flash video that plays on the iPhone (well sort of..):
    http://www.cidigitalmedia.com/tutorials/qt/play_qt.html
Using swfobject for Flash detection, if the Web browser has the Flash plugin, the Flash .flv video is displayed, if not, the QT, .mov version is displayed.
View the source code for more exact details.
If the Web browser does not have the Flash plugin, alternate content is displayed, which in this case happens to be a QT player, which displays a .mov video. In this case it's just a single video. Now maybe you have a QT player with playlist... but let me tell you.. they are a lot rarer than Flash media players with playlists, xml playlist, etc.... Strong case for Flash here..
But your alt content could just as easily hold a QT media player (with playlist) if such an animal exists.

  • .mov file in Quicktime: Audio OK, Video not OK

Reposting this as a new topic, since it was buried in the other thread.
I have a small HD video camera that records .mov files to an SD flash card.
I get audio, but no video. The Quicktime movie inspector says the format is "mbarella AVC encoder 3avcCM@" - then an apparently random selection of symbols that I don't see on my keyboard..
I have bought and activated the Quicktime pro key.
The movie properties window tells me the Video Track in in H.264 format - but I use H.264 a lot, and never have a problem with it.
It's not just one file that is problematic - every video file fails to show on my laptop, though the video files play back without a problem on the camera.
I can't open the file in Quicktime, Real Player, VLC, itunes, iphoto, MPEG Stream clip, or Final cut. I used to be able to open files from this camera on my laptop, but suspect I have upgraded and lost functionality. Saved files that used to play in Quicktime and in iphoto now do not play video - audio is fine, but not video.
I have downloaded the Perian add-on, but that has made no difference.
Any thoughts? I can send a short test file from the camera if necessary.
Hope you have a good weekend!
    Best wishes
    R

Hi Jon - test file sent by email to your address in profile, from my rob....{at}gmail address.
File received and examined. Appears to be a codec problem. Suspect the camera may be using a custom/hybrid encoder. QT is very touchy about such things. Was able to open and play it in both older version of VLC and new version which installed today. Tried transcoding the result to standard MP4 file but the results were not satisfactory.
    Test.mp4
If you download/play this test, you will note that the pan portion is very poorly rendered. Stepping the clip frame-by-frame seems to display some frames out of their natural order. In addition, the clip looses two seconds of playback time as if some frames were either lost during the transcode or the original file had a varying frame rate which was reset to a fixed rate and time reference in the transcoded file. This seems to be confirmed by analysis of the HandBrake conversion below...
    FILE0055.m4v
Used a custom TV preset I happen to be testing in latest Snow Leopard version of HandBrake to create the file which does play back the same as you original file in the VLC player. This preset, among other things, duplicates the original frame rate variations. In this case, analysis indicates the frame rate excursion to be 29.970 -6.008/+30.280 fps which plays the clip in 12.07 seconds and is only 0.03 seconds longer than your original file. The downside to this is the fact that the preset as used here doubles the video rate and quadruples the audio data rate.
You might perform a search to see if a QT component is required for proper viewing of camera content. (I.e., a component that was originally installed on the system that used to play the files--e.g., check software disc that may have come with the camera.) Otherwise, my only suggestion would be to download the latest version of HandBrake and see if you can transcode the files for playback using the standard or currently configured component set installed on your system.
    Good Luck,

  • Controlling Quicktime Audio

    Hello,
I've added a page to my iWeb developed site hosted on .mac that contains 4 mp3 audio files. Currently they appear as an image (optional) with the quicktime slider control beneath.
I have a two part question regarding controlling the behavior of quicktime.
Presently, each time the page is loaded, all the audio files are downloaded irrespective of the listners desire to play any of them. This takes a considerable time, and the browser is pretty much at a standstill untill all the files have been downloaded. Can I prevent QT from doing that untill the vierer selects a file to play?
Second, if the user has quicktime pro, he can download and save the source file. I would like to prevent anyone from doing this, QT pro or not. Is there any way I can prevent the user from saving the file locally?
    Thanks,
    Gary

Yep. Four downloads happening at the same time is a waste of bandwidth. What you need is known as a "Poster" movie. An example from one of my pages:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/MTV/
Notice that the actual file doesn't download until a viewer click the poster movie? The poster movie could be a simple "click me to play" image file saved as a QuickTime .mov file. The html code uses special tags that link the poster movie to the actual file and my example also "calls" the QuickTime Player instead of using the browser plug-in.
If you own QuickTime Pro try using the "Save" or "Save As" on the downloaded file. Can't be done because the file is "protected" with a special AppleScript that disabled saving or editing.
Viewers could still "record" the file using screen capture software however. The same would be true of your audio only QuickTime files. But most users are not that savvy and these "locks" would frustrate most visitors.

  • Html code for quicktime audio stream

I am looking for the html code to play mp3-audio files on a website. I used to write it with the <embed>-tag, but this does not work in modern browsers like firefox 8 or opera 11.5. Perhaps someone can help me. Thanks in advance.

Your page code is telling my browser to look for the "wrong" plug-in.
The page uses the wrong class ID and code for the QT plug-in.
Your page uses a .mov file but uses a class ID of:
    clsid:166B1BCA-3F9C-11CF-8075-444553540000
And a plug in download for Macromedia.
A .mov file would use a class ID of:
    clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B
and the plug-in download page should point the the QT download page:
    pluginspage="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/"
More info on the links in the previous threads.
You'll get it sorted out once you use the right code for the media.

  • Quicktime audio & video out of sync in premiere cs5

i filmed a video using the built-in isight camera in my new macbook pro and the QuickTime video recorder.  the videos look and sound fine, but when i put them into adobe premiere cs5 for editing, they audio and video get out of sync.  how do i keep this from happening?
    thanks!

In most cases I convert to PNG format (Portable Network Graphics) rather than JPG. File sizes are larger than JPG but rarely prohibitively so (and if they are I will then use JPG) .
Importantly, for this generally insignificant increase in size, you get a perfect lossless graphic with PNG.
For example this whole screen capture (1920 x 1200) shot is:
      694K  PNG (lossless)
    2,341K  JPG (lossless)
      493K  JPG (standard lossy)
Note that the forum scales images for display. To actually see it at full resolution you would right-click the image and 'Save As Image ...' to then view it in your favourite image viewer (I use VuePrint, XN-View and FutureixImager to view images).

  • Problems with Quicktime audio in web browser

    Hello.
In December 2007 I designed a web site to promote a musical show I wrote. I included mp3 audio files of some of the songs. I designed the site using Dreamweaver on my Mac.
The site was working perfectly in February, the last time I (and others) checked it, using both Firefox and Safari to test the links. At that time, when I clicked on a link to one of the music files a window would open with the Quicktime big "Q" logo, then the song would play.
I haven't touched the site (no change of code of any sort) since February.
Today when I tried to access the music files the new window opened as usual with the big "Q" logo, but then a white question mark appears, covering the Q logo. Why is that happening?
The music links (still) work perfectly on PCs (I tested it today with IE on Windows), but not on any of the Macs I've tried (I only own Mac computers) with either Firefox or Safari. And on a Mac, if you right-click on one of the links and choose "Save link as ... " you can download the mp3 and it will play using Quicktime or iTunes from my desktop (or any other location) but won't play from the browser.
I'm pretty sure I'm using a newer version of Quicktime now and newer versions of Firefox and Safari (all have been upgraded since February) but there has been no other change to my software configurations on any of my computers.
If anyone can help me, please look at the actual web page. Here's a link to the page in question: (after arriving at the page, click on "The Demo Recording" link and then try any of the song links).
    http://deadflamingodancer.com/music.html
A big thank you to anyone who tries to assist me. It's much appreciated.
    Don

I had no trouble with your files but the issue could be with your page code (or lack of it).
You use "direct" links instead of page code so the QuickTime browser plug-in may not even be used on some machines.
Your file names include spaces and punctuation that could case troubles:
    http://deadflamingodancer.com/audio/08%20Gussie's%20Blues.mp3 as one example.
http://developer.apple.com/internet/ieembedprep.html to help fix the page code. You'll then be linking to a new html file with the proper code to call the QuickTime browser plug-in.
To include non standard file formats and "force" the QuickTime browser plug-in be used you need to use the special qtsrc="blah.mp3" syntax instead of the regular "src" tag. Learn more here:

  • Quicktime audio file on my iPod shuffle?

I want to record a story I'm reading.
I assume I can use quicktime for that?
If so, how do I get that on my ipod shuffle?

After recording yourself using QuickTime Player, use this command.
    File -> Export...
If you recorded as a video (not audio only), choose Audio Only for the Format.  When you click Export, this creates a 256 kbps AAC version of the recording.  Find the audio file and open it using iTunes.  iTunes imports the file and it should appear in the Music library.  If you want it to appear in iTunes as an audiobook, do a Get Info on it.  On the Info window's Options tab, set the Media Kind to Audiobook.  You can now sync this item to your shuffle as desired.

  • After Effects PC Quicktime Audio Sync

I'm putting this here for fellow PC-users who are experiencing this major frustration.
When RAM previewing, your audio is in sync.  But after rendering, when you play back a rendered Quicktime movie in Quicktime player - no matter WHICH codec you render to - the audio is out of sync.  If you try playing it in a browser (Quicktime plugin), it is also out of sync.
Fear not, PC users: your movie audio is not out of sync.  Quicktime playback via either standalone or browser plug-in is not playing the file properly.  You can test this a couple of ways: 1) Try playing it with VLC on your PC: magically, it's in sync.  2) Open your rendered movie on any Mac, or via a browser on any Mac: magically, it's in sync.
The Quicktime platform and its various implementations continue to set the lowest standard, given the enormity of the resources at Apple, and its prevalence in production.  As a VFX and multimedia content creator for 20+ years, I wince every time a client asks for ProRes, lossy files, as "masters."  Between the inconsistent gamma-shift issues and local playback sync, I avoid using Quicktime wherever possible.
    Hope this helps,
    _Mike

Well, first off, my personal preference whenever any media comes to me is to immediately split the audio and video, and convert to .wav and image sequences.  With any .mov or .avi or .mp4-type container, one small corruption and the entire file is lost.  For safety's sake, image sequences are infintiely safer.  They're also easier during the production phase, where changes from a client can mean simple patching of just the relevant frames.  On tight deadlines, knowing that the entire output comp is ready to go at a moment's notice is often a lifesaver, and this allows me to make changes and re-output approval masters very quickly.  Time is money.
My preferred image sequence codec is OpenEXR, but I'll use TIFF, or even PNG, depending.  Ultimately, I deliver client masters as uncompressed TIFFs with .wav and/or .aiff audio. For as long as I've been in post-production, these formats have been around and withstood the test of time.  Usually, clients will want some sort of Quicktime with the master files, in which case it's Animation (lossless) codec with embedded audio.  But I can't sleep at night knowing how easily corruptible that is as a master, so I provide it in addition to the image sequences and audio files.
During production, I'll render to whatever the client wants to see/whatever's easiest, and I have plenty of Macs and PCs around here, though my primary workstation is PC.  Locally, I render my disposable tests to After Effects' default: lossless .avi.  I posted the original information about working with Quicktime above because I see this error 1000x a week, as many of my clients like to see .h264 media, and about 1% of them ever seem to notice the [obvious!] gamma issues or sync problems.  These are the world's biggest media corporations spending millions, and they rarely seem to notice or care.  Miss a word in the legal disclaimer, though, and they can see that in 6-point type from across the room...  priorities.
