No QuickType support for Safari or Spotlight...

I'm really liking the QuickType keyboard in iOS 8, works fairly well, but like anything it can be improved upon.
However, I just noticed that it is not available in Safari or Spotlight, at least not on my phone. Is this how it is or is there a setting for it. I held down the button on the keyboard and the "predictive" button is not selectable. I'm guessing it's the way it was designed? That's a shame, why wouldn't I want predictive text for when I'm doing a Bing search or Spotlight Search?
Anyone have experience with the 3rd party keyboards? Do those work in all apps?
Thanks

Same problem here on my iPhone and on some friends' iPhones (5, 5c, 5s all the same).
3rd party keyboards like Swiftkey seem to work. But I want to use the original Apple keyboard with QuickType and
don't want to allow a 3rd party to have full access to my keyboard, which would send all the stuff I type to its servers...

  • Support for Safari 3.x

I only see support for Safari 2.0 when I do a search on the
support site. I'm wondering if this is correct and if there are
plans to support the latest version of Safari?
Specifically, we are certifying one of our products on Safari
3.1.2 on the Mac, and encountered an issue where the Webhelp search
results are cut off and not displayed. (This doesn't happen on
    3.1.2 on Windows.)
    thanks,

  • Flash support for Safari on the iPhone

Anyone know/heard anything about Flash support? I'm amazed how limiting browsing the web with iPhone is w/out it.

I think the main problem with flash is the input issue. Right now the iphone knows when to display a keyboard and when not to. Flash can use a non-standard method of accepting keyboard input other than a input box. (Flash can just capture keystrokes).
So if a flash application is requiring a keyboard, the iphone will have no way to know. Currently there is no method of manually bringing up the keyboard on the iphone(I'm sure it was a decision to keep the u.i. clean).
Also with flash, the have other mouse input methods (such as drag, onMouseUp, onMouseDown, etc...) which the iphone cannot support. Dragging events are captured by the iphone and produce the coll move around functionality we all love. I also read somewhere that the mouseUp and mouseDown events are both fired at the same time when a user touches the screen, which would break quite a few Flash created u.i.'s.
So the reason there is no flash support? Currently the is no way to make it elegantly work.

  • Looking for a high-contrast extension for Safari for Windows

First of all, what do we call them - extensions or plugins?
Is there an extension for Safari for Windows for high-contrast? I can't find one anywhere. Windows 7 is set to a HC theme. IE just follows suit. Chrome detected this, ad offered to install a theme.
Don't know why, but I still prefer Safari on my Win7 system. But really need HC. One that just inverts the colors would work, but one with several other options like the Chrome extension would be better.

  • Safari 2 support after safari 3 release

    Hi all,
Just recently my company added safari 2 support to our website.
But tests with the beta 3 doesn't look promising.
So we have a problem when safari 3 is published...
And it takes some time to support safari 3.
The question is how long will safari 2 be downloadable and how long there will be support for Safari 2 when Safari 3 is released?
    Thanks in advance...
    With kind regards,
    Rob Smeets

    As mentioned before:
Start a new topic with your specific issues (describing it as 'flakey' doesn't help others to help you) and a fellow user like yourself should be able to help you.
So far we have no details on what your actual problems are and are unable to help you fix them. You do want them fixing I assume?
what were we supposed to do, NOT download the update?
Yes. If the download has no benefit for you, why download it? Software Update does not forcibly install it onto your system. The choice is yours.

  • " plug-in name does not support the highest level of security for Safari plug-ins" appear for some plugins in Safari Security "Manage Website Settings"?

    Hi,
Wondering why "<plug-in name> does not support the highest level of security for Safari plug-ins" appear for some plugins in Safari > Security > "Manage Website Settings"?
Have been trying to get to the root cause of the problem but did not find much on this. I am trying to figure out what can get the warning to go away completely than using the Allow/Always Allow options for the plug-in
    Thanks,
    Shyam

    Hi Linc,
Thank you for your response. Here is the screenshot of the warning that I am talking about.
    Here is what I do:
    1. Launch Safari and open its Preferences. I have Safari 7.1 installed on my machine.
    2. Click Security Tab and click Manage WebSite Settings
    3. A window opens showing me all the Plug-ins that I have (listed on the left hand side).
    4. One of them is the Adobe Reader plug-in. When I click Adobe Reader, the following details about the plug-in show up on the right
I was referring to the highlighted section that warns me about this plug-in not using the highest level of security for Safari Plug-ins.
Note: I do not see this for all my plug-ins (QuickTime, Adobe Flash Player don't give me this warning) which tells me that there is a way to make the warning go away.
    Thanks again,
    Shyam

  • You can't open the application tar because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.   Downloaded upgrade for Safari: using intel-based iMac

System Automatically notified me of an update for Safari - told it to continue.  After a few seconds, the system displayed about 12-14 error messages:
“You can't open the application tar because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.”
      Package being updated: Safari v6.0.1
    Package displayed size: 48.5 MB
    My system is:
NOTICE: it is NOT a PowerPC!
What's going on???   This is a reoccuring problem with many updates..

Your profile states Mac OS X (10.7.1) is this correct?
From the update web page this is the info
    Safari 6.0.1
Note: For OS X Mountain Lion systems, Safari 6.0.1 is included with OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2.
SafariAvailable for: OS X Lion v10.7.5, OS X Lion Server v10.7.5, OS X Mountain Lion v10.8 and v10.8.1
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5502?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Perhaps you need to update from 10.7.1 to 10.7.5 if you can before trying to install the Safari update.
If you do update to 10.7.5, make sure you have good backups available.

  • Will Apple be adding support for the pointer_lock feature in the Safari browser?

Various 3d games online are using WebGL (supported in Safari) but some are using the new "pointer_lock" feature:

Will Safari be adding support for pointer_lock in the near future? Here is an example of a WebGL interaction:

  • When I try to open Safari I get error message: Safari - Alert    Suspicious Activity Might Have been Detected.  Major Security Issue  To fix it please call Support for Apple  1 800-680-4131 (Toll Free) immediately!

Started to get pop ups when tried to open a video on face book. Directed for a download of MPlayerX-2.dmg and did attempt to install but never got video up/.
    Error message also states to
To fix it please call Support for Apple +1 800-680-4131 (Toll Free) immediately! and also gives out a web site of http://mac-online-support.com

You may have installed the "Downlite" or "VSearch" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the support article, you may also need to remove this item in the same way:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This malware is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates
    if it's not already checked.

  • Support for Spotlight Comments Yet?

One of the glaring problems with iPhoto is its lack of support for Spotlight. I took 2 months to meticulously add Spotlight comments to all of my archived photos, only to find that when I import them into iPhoto, I can no longer search by metadata. How idiotic was that? Not even a utility to import them! Did they finally fix this in iPhoto 6?

Nope, just tried this and the Spotlight Comments are lost: Not attached to the copy that's made in the iPhoto Library, and not imported into any field in the photo's metadata.
Spotlight Comments seems a bit of a last minute good idea that never took off to me. I wonder if it will be exploited in future releases or if it will quietly get stuck as borderline useful as it is now. I agree: Apple added this field to Get Info; you'd think they'd make use of the **** thing in their software!

  • How can I install asian script for language support for bangla in safari and install a font??

how can I install asian script for language support for bangla in safari and install a font? Some websites are working fine in ipad and iphone4 but not in mac osx supported imac or macbook. Example: www.sonarbangladesh.com.

You just need to install a font, like one of these:

  • Leechblock-like product for Safari that supports scheduling?

Is there a Leechblock-like product for Safari out there that will support advance scheduling? (Freedom doesn't.) Alternatively, would it mess anything up if I uninstalled Safari entirely? I only use it to circumvent Leechblock anyway.

Apparently there is one solution. You can install the extension "WastNoTime". It is as good as Leechblock.
For that you have to go to Safari preferences and turn on extensions. You can then download and install the extension from this link: http://bumblebeesystems.dyndns.org/wastenotime/ or you can browse https://extensions.apple.com/ and find it under productivity category.
I am happy that this extension is finally out. I was almost moving to Firefox.
    Good luck

  • Snow leopard not supported any more? security updates for safari

Apparently the latest security updates for safari have been released for lion & mountain lion but not for 10.6. I have had some problems updating to lion so I'm still on snow leopard. Does this mean snow leopard is not officially supported any more? Not sure if this should be of concern to me. I would like at least the security related updates to be up to date on my machine.

    Don't hold your breath.
With the possible exception of the odd critical security patch (like the recent Java ones) there are unlikely to be any further updates for Snow Leopard.

  • How do I set up bookmarks sync to iCloud for Safari in Windows?

The page http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1455 shows iCloud Control Panel for Windows permitting bookmarks sync for Safari but when I run it it shows bookmarks sync for Internet Explorer. How do I set this up for Safari on Windows?

I suggest you post your question on an MS Office forum since it's their software you're having issues with.
