No Reception and Roaming in Red Creek, NY

I spend most summer weekends over at Blind Sodus Bay in Red Creek, NY. However, anyone with Verizon phone is barely getting 3g or 1x, and mostly stuck in Roaming around the area. The weird thing is if we take the boat out into the middle of the bay we can get 4G! So either we have to drive more inland, or take the boat further north to get any decent phone reception. Is there anyway to boost the signal in this area? I know many people around the area that have the same issue, seem to be a localized dead zone area. (Removed)

  • New music will not sync to my iPhone 4, and music that was previously synced but was added to library through a CD will not play and has a red square and is grayed out.

    I use iTunes on my family iMac, my iTunes, I believe, one update below the current software any my iPhone is on iOS 7.0.3. Music purchased through iTunes syncs correctly and will play properly. Songs that I have obtained through CD's, however, are now grayed out and have a red square with a circle around it. When I click on the song, it will cycle through my library until it can play a song. iTunes will also not restore songs that I have removed from my iPhone but are in the cloud. Is there any possible way to fix this issue? Everything has been working fine until iOS 7 and the new version of iTunes. Thank you for your time!

    I am so relieved to hear that I am not the only one experiencing this! However, I am sorry to hear you are going through this as well. Lucky for me I am upgrading to a 5s which will be sent to me on Wednesday. I did stumble upon an article with tips on how to downgrade back to iOS 7, but I am EXTREMELY apprehensive about doing that myself. Here's the article link if you want to give it a go:

  • HT201272 What is it with songs that are not from the itunes store, but are coming from cd's and other download sources that all of a sudden do not play on my iphone and have a red stop button in a red round circle around them, behind the title?

    Songs that I have had previously downloaded from various other sources, but NOW ALL of a sudden they DO NOT PLAY on my IPHONE and DISPLAY a RED STOP BUTTON in a red round circle next to the title.  Everytime I click on it it DOESNT play.   What happen???? How can i get them to play.,   Why should i have to pay for the songs, and why are they in the ITUNES store and not in my regular playlist.

    Amazing steps you've done so far! The great news is this is very unlikely an issue with your iPhone.
    I've run into a similar issue lately as well. I narrowed it down to one song that was causing 30 songs not to sync. I removed the song from the sync list (unchecked it) and all 29 songs were able to sync.
    You may be running into a similar issue. This may be a problem with this version of iTunes, an issue with one song or a group of songs; hard to know for sure. It's important to narrow down and isolate the cause. Most imporantly get that music back on there!
    The way to narrow down the casue add just a few songs at a time (even 1, just to get that first sync finished). Manually syncing is what you'll need here.
    Plug in your iPhone, on the Summary screen (shows a picture of your iPhone, the iOS version, Restore iPhone....; etc). Under the Options area at the bottom choose to Manually Manage Videos and Music then choose Apply in the lower right. The music that's on your iPhone now should be removed from your iPhone now. You're now able to sync music manually.
    The link below explains how to drag the songs from the iTunes library on the computer on to your iPhone which will start the sync. Add just one song just to see if you can get 1 of those hundreds of songs on there. If you can, awesome! Keep adding until you find the song or group of songs that are causing this issue.

    Please let me know how things are going.
    Cheers!

  • I had completed my iDVD project and burned a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the project and put a red frame around the opening screen. Now when I burn the project, it no longer has the opening frame. How can I fix?

    I had completed my iDVD project, a Wedding Slideshow with pictures and music, and burned it on a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the original project on my computer and clicked around and put a red frame around the opening screen that has the Wedding theme with music. Now when I burn the project to make more DVDs, it burns but no longer has the opening frame. It immediately opens to the iMovie slideshow. How can I fix so I can burn the entire project with opening frames?

    As Bengt suggested make a disk image of the successfully burned DVD using Disk Utility. Then you can burn copies any time you need one.
    In the future once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
    To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
    You can then burn it to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • How to improve client handover and roaming between AP's

    Improving client Handover and roaming between APs
    There are a few standards and methodologies available to use to improve handover of clients between APs. Most are focused on VOIP technologies, but it must always be remembered that we cannot control the client Handover (especially with legacy clients) we can only encourage them. Some Standards and methods work well for some environments and some do not - test the recommendations extensively before implementing in a live Production environment. It must also be noted that all settings take effect immediately once applied, however from a client perspective it might need to re-associate for the changes to take effect client side.
    As with everything else in IT, if a perfect method/solution existed there would only be one - try them all and keep the best.
    The Standards and Definitions
    802.11k
    IEEE 802.11k allows a device to quickly identify nearby APs that are available for roaming. When the signal strength of the current AP weakens and the device needs to roam to a new AP, it will already know the best candidate AP with which to connect to.
    802.11r
    IEEE 802.11r specifies fast Basic Service Set (BSS) transitions between access points by redefining the security key negotiation protocol, allowing both the negotiation and requests for wireless resources to occur in parallel.
    When a device roams from one AP to another on the same network, 802.11r streamlines the authentication process. BSS allows a devices to associate with APs more quickly. Coupled with 802.11k's ability to quickly identify the target AP, BSS's faster association method may enhance application performance.
    Handoff Assist
    The AP monitors the RSSI for every associated client. If the RSSI for a specific client falls below "low-rssi-threshold" and continues to fall for the "rssi-falloff-wait-time", then the AP will send a de-auth to the client.
    The de-auth is meant to kick the client away from the current AP and get it to re-authenticate to a nearby AP. This will have the effect of helping a client handover between 2 APs.
    BUT (Big But), if the client gets de-authed and takes a while to re-authenticate (if it even does re-authenticate automatically after a de-auth), then this will have the effect of destroying communication instead of helping it -- mostly found with legacy clients.
    Remove Lower Transmit Rates
    Removing lower transmit rates is a way to promote better roaming, BUT not all clients respond well, or even respond to it.
    The practice is that the basic rates are a subset of the transmit rates. If you only want to allow speeds 9 and up, you would select only the transmit rates of 9 and up, and the basic rates of 9 and 11. If a legacy client expects the rates of 1 and 2 it will not connect.
    Local Probe Threshold
    Local probe Threshold prevents a client from connecting to an AP with a too low a signal - helps more with initial connection than roaming.
    The local probe threshold parameter is not supposed to force clients to roam as soon as they pass near an access point with a good signal, but rather to NOT hold on to an access point with a weak signal (avoiding sticky clients).
    PMK Caching
    Defined by 802.11i and is a technique available for authentication between a single AP and a station. If a station has authenticated to an AP, roams away from that AP, and comes back, it does not need to perform a full authentication exchange. Only the 802.11i 4-way handshake is performed to establish transient encryption keys.
    Opportunistic Key Caching (OKC)
    Is a similar technique to PMK, but not defined by 802.11i, for authentication between multiple APs in a network where those APs are under common administrative control. An Aruba deployment with multiple APs under the control of a single controller is one such example. Using OKC, a station roaming to any AP in the network will not have to complete a full authentication exchange, but will instead just perform the 4-way handshake to establish transient encryption keys
    Implementation and Configuration
    802.11k
    802.11k is configured in your VAP profile. Tick the option to “Advertise 802.11k”. There after set the Handover Trigger Feature Settings.
    Tick the “Enable Handover Trigger feature” and then set RSSI threshold by specifying the -dBm level at what the hand over trigger should be sent to the client
    802.11r
    802.11r is configured under SSID of your VAP profile. Tick the option to “Advertise 802.11r”
    HandofF Assist
    Station Handoff Assist is enabled in RF Optimization under the RF Management section of AP configuration.
    Tick the “Station Handoff Assist” option to enable it, next set the Low RSSI Threshold – the threshold determines above what level no deauth gets sent
    Lower Transmit Rates
    Transmit rates can be adjusted in the Advanced tab of SSID under your VAP profile.
    Remember that the basic rates are a subset of the transmit rates. If you only want to allow speeds 9 and up, you would select only the transmit rates of 9 and up, and the basic rates of 9 and 11
    Local Probe threshold
    Local Probe threshold can be adjusted in the advanced tab of SSID under your VAP profile.
    Depending on the density of your APs consider values between 20 and 40 -- 40 being aggressive in an AP dense area.
    Deny Broadcast Probes
    Denying Broadcast Probes can cause problems with Roaming especially if the SSID is hidden – leave option disabled.

    Hi, thank you for the helpful guidance.  I have a basic question, if the device roam from one AP to another AP with the same SSID.  Is there a need of re-authentication given a) the network uses EAP based authentication; b) the network uses MAC address authentication.   If there is no need of EAP re-authentication, how the 802.11 keys are moved to the new AP.  Thank you very much if you could help me clarify my thought.

  • Installed snow leopard and now all red colors look rusty orange.

    All I did was install snow leopard on my mac pro and now all reds will shift to orange on one display and pink on my other. I've been using the exact same setup with just leopard and didn't have this problem so I am assuming it has definitely something to do with snow leopard. Anyone else have this problem? I've calibrated to the best of my abilities but it's still present. I can actually still see reds on say, a thumnail, but as soon as I enlarge the picture it will change color. I've looked on forums and have not found a solution.
    Thanks!

  • Read payload for error messages and throw a red flag in SXMB_MONI

    Hello All,
    I am calling a synchronous web service from PI ccBPM and getting a response back to PI ccBPM itself.
    So the steps in BPM are receive(from CRM), sync step (to call web service) and a control step (to end the BPM process).
    The requirement is to check if error_list node in the response from web service call has a value in it and throw an error in SXMB_MONI so that they can easily identify how many messages errored out  out of thousands of messages.
    This is the response structure for web service if there are errors.
    <manageResponse>
      <result>
                    <ErrorList>
                        <object>
                            <hyatt>partnerupdate--NR</hyattt>
                            <Message />
                            <Operation>jukio</Operation>
                            <User>atuser</User>
                        </object>
                     </ErrorList>
    </result>
    </manageResponse>
    Again I only need to see if error_list is not empty and throw a red flag error in SXMB_MONI.
    Thanks
    Mike

    Hi Mich,
      In Response map when Error segment appear's fail the maping so that you can see the list of message in MONI. and do not need to put any conditions in MONI.
    I mean in your Respoinse when ERROR_LIST segment coman under that one manatory field you select and take that field length say 20 characters.
    source field->Substring (0,100) get the 100 characters from source in that case case from source it won't get 100 characters mapping will fail so that you can see the Error messages in SXMB_MONI.
      Finally what I am saying do the wrong condition mapping in the response mapping so that mapping will fail.
    Regards,
    Venu.

  • TS1574 you should mention that the audio output jack is fleaky, try plugging and unplugging until red light goes off !!!

    It should be mentionned in the Apple help that the audio output jack is sometimes fleaky, as it does not reclose the speakers contacts correctly when an earphone jack is removed. This can be checked by looking into the computer audio jack and seeing a red light, which confirms the optic output is active. Plugging and unplugging the jack until the red light disapears is the cure, unless you are unfortunate enough to have a broken audio jack. Good luck !

    Same here. I don't remember doing anything out of the ordinary. I was working in Parallels on getting a AM station to stream via some web interface. Next time I went to play sound on the internal speakers, no go.
    I've tried zapping the PRAM, toggling the headphone jack and the toothpick thing. Nothing seems to work.
    I've also noticed that I get sound in my headphones in iTunes but not in Garageband (someone had suggested that starting up Garageband would reset things.
    Any other ideas out there?
    Is there a file that could get corrupted that I could switch out of my back up?

  • Backup and Restore of Redis Data

    My usage of Azure Redis is a cache to store snapshots of data for an event sourced system. We have millions of events stored in persistent storage that are aggregated and saved to redis. This provides us with fast access to the current state of an entity.
    However, to rebuild the Redis cache from scratch would take many hours as the number of events in the system is huge and constantly growing.
    How in Azure Redis can we backup and restore data in case of failure? For instance, it would be nice to have access to an rdb file and archive it then restore when needed. We tried setting a non-Azure Redis as a slave of our Azure Redis however this does
    not work as it seems the Azure Redis doesn't have write access to it's working directory preventing it from writing an rdb file for sync.
    What are the recommended approaches to using Azure Redis as persistent storage? How can we backup/restore or even move data from one redis to another.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the response Mike. The interesting thing is on Saturday this didnt work. Today it looks like it is sync'ing succesfully. Below is the steps and output i saw on Saturday. I started it again today and it looks good so far. I will let it finish the
    sync and see what happens now. The redis is about 19gb on a Standard Pricing Tier.
    On the non-Azure Redis
    1. SET CONFIG masterauth <mykey>
    2. SLAVEOF myredis.redis.cache.windows.net 6379
    Then on my non-Azure Redis I see the following output. This ouput repeats until i kill the non-azure redis or set SLAVEOF NO ONE.

  • My Take on the Reception and Slow Download Speed Issue

    I seriously believe that the reception problems are a result of something that AT&T has done... Here's why. I started having issues with reception variation and very slow download performance BEFORE the release of iPhone 4 or iOS4. I went to AT&T and got a new SIM. No improvement. I complained at the Apple Store about the variable reception, and the fact that when downloading, the phone got extremely hot to the touch. Because I have been a good Apple customer, the Genius replaced the phone. No improvement. I only upgraded to iOS4 after getting the refurbed "new" phone-- the new OS hasn't really done anything for me other than shorten my battery life..... I am getting pretty tired of sitting in one physical spot, and watching my signal strength go from 5-bars 3G to 1-bar EDGE to "no service" in the span of a few minutes.... Somebody had better do something about this issue, or it's back to Sprint with the new HTC Evo 4G..... Never had reception issues with them!!

    It could be a bit of a design flaw but it could also be affected by iOS4.. any phone with an ariel when hold against skin makes the signal drop period! The only reason its more news worthy is because its actully part of the case.
    It certainly does need fixing but a software update could help improve it for both iphone 4 and 3G/3GS. Ive heard the older models have been suffering this too.
    The reception issue didnt really bother me that much I hold it naturally in my right hand and I dont get a signal issue mainly because I noticed my finger doesnt make contact with the space between the two antennas but then if I apply a finger over the space seprating the antennas the signal does indeed drop its like the two seperated antennas cancel eachother out.
    But I know having to buy a case is a bit stupid when it should work without it but for a phone that cost 500-600 why the **** wouldnt you want to protect it?
    Personally I love the phone the camera is awesome especially the quality of the front facing camera it looks amazing as good as the 3 mega pixel camera on the 3GS.
    The best thing though is definatly the retina display, it looks beautiful. The main thing I liked about the screen tho wasnt the shapeness and quality but the fact that I found it hard to tell the difference between the black colour of the case and the blackness of the screen especially when watching a video with the black bars on the sides of the video,the contrast ratio alone is pretty epic.

  • Ipod classic will only show apple sign and a big red X when I try to do anything? What happened? How do I fix it?

    Ipod classic froze and after resetting it, will only show a grey apple sign and a big red X when I try to do anything. Don't know what happened. Don't know how to fix it. Tried everything it says to do in support. At this point I would be happy with getting it back to  factory default.

    Hi katieperkins99,
    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
    I understand that your iPod classic is displaying a red X icon on the display. In this situation, I would recommend restoring your iPod from Disk Mode. Please use the information located in the attached article for instructions on completing the process.

  • Poor Reception and Extremely Slow Internet

    I switched from the G1 to the Blackberry 8900 and I like the 8900 more.  The only problem is that the reception on the 8900 seems to a lot be worse than the G1's reception and the internet is really slow.  When I used the G1, I didn't even use 3g because I wanted to conserve battery life.  Even on edge, the  3g was about 10x faster than the Blackberry's internet.  It's really unfortunate because I love the blackberry's pointer and the scolling on it.  It makes links so much easier to click.  Does anyone have the same problem?

    yes im having the same problem and funny thing is i switched over from the g1 as well and i never was in the 3g area ...but im getting tons of dropped calls now and the internet is alot slower with the blackberry

  • WAP2000 fails WDS and roaming

    Hi,
    I'm wondering if anyone on this forum has successfully used WAP2000 access points.
    I'm particularly disappointed with these device:
    Hardware Version:
    1.0
    Software Version:
    2.0.0.5
    I set two of them up with exactly the same wifi security settings, same channel and WDS, one of which is a repeater (MAC addresses correctly set).
    Whenever I turn the repeater station on, the wireless supplicant not only doesn't extend it's coverage but if it's within the AP's outer range then it LOSES its connection with the AP. It's as if the wrieless repeater "jammed" the connection. I tried just about every possible setup and came to the conclusion that WDS does not work with my WAP2000 devices.
    I don't even "require" WDS to work if at least a decent roaming could be done. So I setup 2 WAP2000 as 2 APs with exactly the same wifi security settings and different, non-overlapping channels (same SSID). Roaming *should* be fairly quick but it lasts between 30 and 50 seconds!
    I replaced both WAP2000 APs with older WAP54G APs (same settings) and roaming is "fast" (less than 3 seconds!).
    So on one hand I'm demonstrating that roaming does NOT depend ONLY on the client side and that APs can be the culprit.
    On the other hand, I'm also showing how bad the WAP2000 product is (it's more expensive than the WAP54G but is completely unreliable).
    No wonder there are so few references on the web to the WAP2000 device.
    "Cisco" isn't as good as it sounds (I know it's "small business" but it's still Cisco).
    If someone here has had a similar experience and has found a solution, please let me know.
    Otherwise, I'm definitely not going to value the "Cisco/Linksys" brand as well as I did in the past.
    Thanks,
    Vieri

    To get the best roaming, you need to make sure you have enough coverage. That usually means a good site survey was performed to specify how many access points and the locations of the access point. Without this piece, there is no guarantee of roaming.
    As far as WDS, you can setup an autonomous ap as a WDS server that is either dedicated as a WDS or is a WDS server and also serves clients.
