¡Hola CamiloMtnz!

I think you may have a different problem than tonox.
You say that your Macbook Pro recognizes a Toshiba drive.
Your Macbook does not recognize a Hitachi drive, Samsung drive and a Kingston SDD.
    Are these drives connected externally?
Can you see these drives in Disk Utility?
Have you tested the drives on other computers?
Have you tested the drives on all USB connections?
Have you tested them with different connection cables?

This could be caused by a weak PRAM battery. If you have never replaced it, that is a good place to start.
There is only one AGP slot, and I think you already would have a graphic card in that slot. (What video card do you have now?) To run two monitors you will need a PCI slot card.
Windows cards and windows drivers are NOT compatible. Make sure you buy the Mac version of the card.
In one of my computers I have a Radeon 9200 - a pci slot card. I am very happy with it. It arrived with the drivers on a CD. Here's a useful comparison of the 9200 series cards:

You need to use the computer's install disks to repair the hard drive or install a new OS.

  • How do I retrieve data from a HD that cannot be repaired with utility disk?

    Hi,
I have a macbook pro 15 inch mid 2010. It has 4gb of ram and 500gb of storage. I recently upgraded to Mavericks OSX10.9,4.
First of all, when turning on my mac the screen just loads forever, hence it does not pick up the HD. It also displayed the circle with a line through icon once.
Upon noticing this, I tried to repair the disk but it said it was unable to. The other disks are ok but the MAC HD says it stopped repairing when I attempted to repair it.
Using single user mode (command + s): I tried this, but it continued to says the same i/o error code:
    disk0s2: i/o error.n
0 [level 3] [facility com.apple.system.fs] [errtype IO] [IOType Read] [PBlkNum 57547320] [LBlkNum 67604]
    0 [level 3] [facility com.apple.system.fs] [DevNode root_device] {mountPt /] [Path /private/var/db/dyld/dyld_shared_cache_x86_64]
And it kept going and going.
I'm afraid to try anything else. I have no Mac back up in time machine (I know) but I have an external. Is it possible to retrieve the data by wiping the external and using the utility disk to transfer to HD to the external? Is that what people call cloning? Is this physical damage/can i still recover the data/use it and section off the damaged parts and use the spare space?
    Help would be appreciated!

i/o errors generally mean that a part of the disk cannot be read. That can prevent the disk mounting or prevent the entire disk being read after the error.
Disk Utility is not great at addressing issues like this & data recovery specialists are the safest (and most expensive) option for recovering data from a disk in this state.
As others have said it's critical to avoid any use of the disk since if it's a mechanical fault it could seize or finally give up functioning.
If you are intent on recovering 'on your own & on the cheap' you could look at ddrescue – it clones a disk by copying the data stream whilst ignoring errors from the source disk, the data on the second disk could be 'repairable' with additional tools.
    http://www.gnu.org/software/ddrescue/ddrescue.html
TestDisk & Photorec are also good when used for the right fault.
    http://www.cgsecurity.org
These are all *nix tools & require competence at the command line! Just installing can be too much for some non technical users.
You also need lots of spare disks to move data onto to run the tools.
Kappy, is CNET Downloads really a good recommendation? They have a habit of bundling other junk with third party app installers. Go straight to the vendors site would be my advice (using 'https' where available).

  • Phantom restarts / crashes with Maverick. Restore Disk Utility, disk can't be repaired says "live system repair is not supported" Is there a fix yet? Or is Maverick "FREE" because Apple no longer offers free phone support?

Get onto the integrated iOS + Mac OS and end support for "legacy" Mac 10.8 and earlier.
Force older hardware users like me to upgrade to new hardware which is where $$ are.
Make apps work across tablets, phone, and computer with similar (though not the "same" app, but able to read and use the same file format).
    Simplify.
I don't think anyone incl. Microsoft knew Windows 8.1 was going to be a free upgrade, I didn't and read that it would be more like $30.
No OS is ready for everyone on the day it is launched. iOS 7 is now 7.04 and climbing, Mac OS tends to really not be ready until the last patch and version is out, often a year or more after it was first issued. Ship it, then plan to fix the bugs left in or that surface.
www.macperformanceguide.com is saying "No" to Maverick for now. Of course there will be no "No" on new Mac Pro 2013 6,1 when those ship (Late Jan? )

  • Why does my Macintosh HD and Utility Disk give different available space values?

My MacBook Pro (about a year and a half old) has started running extremely slowly out of the blue, to the point it is barely functional. I've tried basically everything, restarting, cleaning up the desktop, clearing out my downloads file, starting in safe mode, resetting the PRAM, updating the operating system. Now my Mac HD says it has about 400GB free space out of 700GB, however today I was running utility disk to see if that would detect a problem and when selecting the first Macintosh HD option it says I only have around 18MB free, is this my problem? and if so how do I fix it? and why would I have two different values for available space? The second Macintosh HD entry does have the same available space in the get info page as is listed in the Disk Utility.

  • What is in my Storage Utility Disk?

"What EXACTLY" is in my "other" storage on my utility disk?  I guess I need to delete files since it's taking up about 80% of the space and I cannot download any new stuff or even back up my phone.  What do I delete?  Thank you.

yes .  Not laughing, can't expect everyone to know everything
To take a picture of the whole screen, press Command-Shift-3.
To take a picture of part of the screen, press Command-Shift-4 and drag to select the area you want.

    MacBook Air, Mid2013, MacOS 10.9.2
I tried to erase the HD of my Mac; Apple Support suggested to restart the computer pressing cmd + R, then select "Utility Disk", then Mac HD, and choose "Erase", the option "Security Options" should be available, but it was not
I was able to erase the disk and reinstall the OS but not to choose the option to overwrite the disk, as the official Apple Support said previously.
I called again them, this time I was said that with an SSD disk the security option (overwrite the disk) is not available, and that is it, no way out; and they added very kindly that if I sell my Mac, the buyer could bring it to a Tech Center and they could eventually recover the data on it, even though this may be expensive
Is there anyone that has any suggestion to protect the data before selling a Mac; the guys at Apple Official Support did not seem very concerned about this

I was unable to access the laptop last night to create a new user; however my client would perfer not to try a second account since that would make it unusable for him while we test the second profile.
Also John Sophos was installed after this started to verify that it was not a virus/malware (I know pointless step but it has happened to me before) so I don't think that is the problem

  • Converting files to utility disk

I had been copying home movies via Mac The Ripper, but I've just figure out how to do thru utility disk. I was wondering if there was a way to convert the movies I've copied by way of MTR to the utility disk. Any suggestions will be helpful.

Do you mean Disk Utility? Are you using it to make disk images from DVDs? This doesn't have anything to do with movie file conversion, and Disk Utility doesn't do that. All it does is make a copy of the DVD in the same format on your computer - you should be able to play it with DVD player, but if you want to use the files in it in some other way you will still nedd to convert them the same way you did with the physical DVD.

    1) HHD 2tb. 2) HHD 1tb. 3) HHD extraible 1tb.
    1) Windows + Programas instalados
    2) Prefiews, Cache, Export, Pegafile, Miscellaneus
    3) Project files + Media Files
