No Recorder Found while trying to burn DVD

Im new to Encore CS3, I am used to using Sonic DVDit Pro 6 for my DVD authoring needs. I am just messing around with everything trying to learn a new program. When I click on "build", the build window opens up and in "DVD Settings" under "Destination" it states that no recorder has been found. I have a DVD burner, this I am sure of. It is a Lite-On Super-Multi LH20A1H Lightscribe DVD Burner and have never had any problems burning multiple DVDs when using the Sonic program. Now, using Encore, my DVD burner is not recognized, therefore causing me to not be able to burn DVDs.
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Probably too late to help in this thread, but may save someone down the line.
In the Premiere Elements forum, we were troubleshooting a "drive not found" issue, and ran down the usual supsects (see Jeff's link above, if it still works now). The user had none of these and had never installed them. Cables were checked and rechecked. Drives were uninstalled in Device Manager, and then reinstalled upon bootup, and functioned perfectly, except for PE. One thing was a bit odd, however, as the burner showed up as a CD drive in some of locations (like My Computer), when it was a full multi-drive, with updated firmware.
Through luck, and hard work on the user's part, we traced it back to Intuit's Quicken. The user did backups to disc from within Quicken. What happens is that Quicken looks around the system and finds some form of packet-writing software. If there is no Nero, or Roxio, it invokes Windows' packet-writing module, which is usually dormant. Once this has been invoked, it "hooks" that burner every time the system boots up, and because Quicken tells it that the drive is a CD drive (what Quicken backs up to), the system thinks that it's a CD drive also. So, besides Roxio and Nero, one can also run afoul of Quicken, if they have ever used its Backup to Disc function to write to a CD. Do not know if the newer versions of Quicken do the same, but it's likely. Just another program to add to the "usual suspect's" list.
Hope this helps someone else with a "burner not found" issue with Encore.

  • Error when trying to burn DVD

    Hi
I get this error (repeatedly) when trying to burn DVD recently.
    Error code 0x80020022
Burning disc failed because communication to the disc drive failed.
It's self explanatory I know, but what am I supposed to do about it? Is it a problem with my hardware?. I can't see the icon for my disc drive in Disc Utility to check it.
I've shut down and restarted, tried different DVDs, they're all DVD-R although I did try at first with a DVD +RW and hope this hasn't caused some damage.
    Hope someone can help thanks.
I'm having loads of problems creating iDVDs as well. But I think I need to resolve issues one at a time....
    Helen

Hi Helen - here are some general purpose iDVD tips that may address some of your unspecified troubles. In terms of communication troubles, could your hard drive be going to sleep, or screensaver kick in and interrupt the process?
    General tips:
Do something small first; get some experience before you need to do a big project.
Lots of memory helps; and you'll need 10-15 gigs of space on the hard drive for scratch space.
Buy good quality disks - I've seen recommendations for Maxell, Sony, TDK and a few others based on testing. I primarily use the first two and usually don't have trouble.
    Give yourself lots of time.
Turn off your screen savers and energy savers; don't let your hard drive go to sleep.
Get your computer healthy and ready for some heavy lifting. (video work could be the hardest job your computer can do) MacJanitor and Apple's DiskUtility's Repair Permissions is my routine.
Most of the time iDVD is working, it is encoding (compressing) your video to fit on the DVD. Create an image .img file (patchburn for iDVD 4 and older) and use Toast or Disk Utility to burn it to disk. Burn slow (1 or 2x) and let it cool down.
I keep my projects under 60 minutes (for highest resolution).
Try testers; you can use DVD-RW
I import into iDVD rather than export from iMovie (fewer errors).
    No other apps open.
Let it encode and burn while you go to bed; it can take awhile, esp. on older Macs. Don't quit iDVD even when the DVD is burned, until you've played the DVD in a regular player (it's much easier to burn another disk and check to see if the problem was a bad disk, than to go back through all that encoding again by quitting iDVD).

  • Keep getting Disc Burner or software not found when trying to burn a CD

I am not able to burn a playlist to a CD and get an error at the top of Itunes window "Disc Burner or Software Not Found". I have been able to burn CDs in the past with this same computer but had some issues with songs in itunes. Support had me uninstall Itunes and reinstall. I have also uninstalled the device in the device manager and re-installed it. I really don't know what to try except to ask for help here. I would appreciate any direction I can get. I have a Dell desktop XPS running on Windows 8.

    Hi daurel,
Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you receive the error "Disc Burner or Software Not Found" when trying to burn CDs. You mention that you've already tried removing and reinstalling iTunes, and other drivers, and these are good steps.
If the situation continues, be sure to try the tips in this article:

On an older Mac I got this message while trying to burn a CD for the car: "The attempt to burn a disc failed.  The burn failed because of a medium write error."  What does this mean?  And how do I work around it?

I had been getting this all morning and checked other messages from the community. THe one which worked was trying a different brand of disc.
I had been using Verbatim which had copied the music fine off the Real Player on my PC at school, but wouldn't work with I Tunes. Tried a Staples and an Office Depot CD-R , both of which did the job.

I am trying to burn DVDs from iPhoto slideshows.  My pictures number in the hundreds and we know that iPhoto captures 99 and then "starts over".  This plays fine from the Mac Book but glitches arise on the DVD when playing it on a DVD player.  Any suggestions on how to overcome the 99 "Chapter limitation" that IPhoto has?  Has anyone heard or tried an app called Vilisoft?  I read good things but I am not sure if it will do what I want.
    Jim

Then use multipel 99 picture slideshows.
You can have up to 8 or 9 slideshows per menu.  If you add a sub menu reduce that by 1 and add 8 more to the sub menu.  The top menu can have links to up to 8 or so submenus (depends on the theme) and each submenu can have up to 8 or so slideshows.
However, converting a very large slideshow to a QT movie as Terence suggested does not envoke the 99 slide limit in iDVD.  It just becomes a single video/movie file.  So you should not have a problem with exporting at the large size, 720 x 540,
and dragging the resulting file into the iDVD menu being sure to avoid any drop zones.

    Hello queenabs,
It sounds like you are trying to burn a playlist to a disc in iTunes, but you are getting the error, "disc burner or software not found."  I found a couple of resources that I think might help with an error like this.
I recommend starting with the steps in this article:
iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2308
If you are still having trouble with burning a disc after following the steps in that article, I recommend following the steps in this article:

Anyone ever get this error message while trying to burn a playlist?  "Unknown error message (-3) "

I am getting error #34506 while attempting to burn DVD or to create DVD image using iDVD 6 Version 6.04(797).
I checked all the resources and there is nothing suspicious.
Any advices how to fix this problem? Any advices about other DVD creator which I could use with my iMovie projects?
Could I safely upgrade to iDVD 8 without mixing up my old good iMovie. After reading the reviews I am really scared.

Roxio Toast is a well-regarded way to create DVDs from iMovie and other video sources, but the menus are not as nice.
iDVD should work for you, but it may take some time to sort through any problems. Have you successfully created a DVD in the past? How much free space is on your main hard drive (boot drive)? Do you have a current version of Quicktime?

  • Error Message while trying to burn a DVD-R with my MacBook Pro: "The disc can't be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.

While using my Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 to burn a DVD-R I keep getting the error message: "This disc can't be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media."
So, I tried the iDVD and got the same error message.
Can anyone out there help me? I've tried both a DVD - R, and a CD.
I made a short 2:20 minute presentation from iMovie and used the "share" to iDVD, then to iTunes, then I tried exporting it to Quicktime and saved it on my desk top. That is when I tried burning by opening the blank DVD-R in the finder then draging the movie on to it and selecting the burn option. Thank you for your time in helping me with this frustrating problem.
    Peace, Pyxidis

I have had that same problem, but it was unrelated to any upgrade.
In my case the optical drive was simply failing, and I replaced it - it was a Powerbook, about eight years old.
It is possible that it's unrelated to Lion, as unlikely as this may seem, since you've just upgraded.
Optical drives seem to be the most life-limited component in these computers. The laser just seems to get weak with age.
