No regular prores capture setting

We are trying to use premiere cc for capturing Prores footage as it's the only way we can capture LTC with the footage, (media express won't work as it doesn't capture LTC).  We have prores options for LT, HQ, 444, but no capture setting for just standard prores.  We really need just the standard prores capture setting as we will be capturing a tremendous amount of footage and need to save the file sizes from HQ, but want better quality than LT.  Any Ideas?

Yes.
No.
The HV20 is outputting DV for FCP, that is what you should capture. You will not gain anything by capturing the DV signal into a "better" codec. Besides, it is VHS you're starting with, DV is already a step up.

  • Best Capture Setting for MiniDV

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best capture setting in FCP 6 for MiniDV tape (NTSC not PAL). Can I capture it with the Pro Res setting or should I capture it in another setting and then edit with the sequence setting set to Pro Res?

Capture and edit the material in its native format. DV-NTSC has it's own special Easy Preset. Select it and have at it.
You gain nothing except huge file sizes when converting DV into ProRes.

  • Capture setting.

How do I create a custom capture setting for capturing 48K 16 bit audio in FCP 5.1? My FCP has a audio format of 38 bit floating point and I need to change it to 16 bit to make it compatible with my Sony digital camera.
    Thanks

    Hi Jerry,
My excuses to keep pestering you, but if 32-bit floating point is correct and I use the preset DV NTSC why do I keep getting the same message "The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape. Make sure the audio sample rate of your capture tape preset matches the sample rate of your tape." I do film at 16 bit.
    Thanks onces more,
    Wiecher.

  • Capture setting when using a firewire and camcorder

does anyone know the capture setting I use when importing from a dvc camcorder using a firewire

Typically it would be DV/DVCPro (NTSC or PAL), 48khz, 16 bit.

  • DV converter capture setting

When I was using FCE, I frequently used the DV converter capture setting to import and digitize old VHS tapes. Now, when I upgraded to FCP, I cannot find that setup. Is there a different one to use, or is FCP not equipped with that option?

And use the NTSC DV 48k settings for the capture setting if you're in NTSC land. If you're in PAL land, use PAL..

  • ProRes import setting causing herringbone effect

I am using a Sony HDR-HC3 1080i HD video camera and record in 1080 HD. When I import my video using FCS7 Prores 422 setting, I get the herringbone effect. The video I took was a short 5 minutes of my mountain bike which is silver in color. My current workflow is HC3 -> FCS -> Compressor -> DVDSP -> SD video. I don't have any problems when I import using the HD, HDV 1080i60 ingestion settings. I was really excited about the Prores 422 codecs but somehow I must be doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Where are you getting the pixel dimensions from? The browser or Quicktime? I suspect the footage is 1440x1080 with a pixel aspect ratio correction applied to it. If you want to work in 1920, set a sequence up before you edit your clips into it. If the clips don't look distorted, then rock on!

  • DVCPRO 1080i25 Capture Setting

    Dear All
I can't find a Capture Setting for DVCPRO 1080i25 in Final Cut Pro.
Does anyone know why this is and how one should capture such footage.

Thank you, Shane. Was just talking about you.
Now that question, I really could and should have answered myself. This i25 business is really just a nomenclature issue. The HD nomenclature seems a little inconsistent with fields and frames being interchangeable at times. That doesn't seem right to me.

  • Wrong aspect ratio with ProRes capture

Capturing tape from a panasonic DVX100A shot 24pAdvanced squeeze. When I capture with the DV/DVCPRO codec (using the anamorphic setting) the footage comes in the correct aspect ratio in the project, and the quicktme clip in the finder is the correct aspect ratio also (16:9). However if I capture with the same NTSC anamorphic setting in the ProRes 422 codec, the clip is the correct aspect ratio in the project, but the quicktime file in the finder still has a squeezed look. I understand that the ProRes codec is much better quality, but it is very inconvenient to have all the quicktime files the wrong aspect ratio. This footage will be shared among many projects, and it could be a problem going forward. Any way to get the ProRes codec to create the quicktime file with the correct aspect ratio?
    Thanks.

For anyone following the thread, I found this forum from Ken Stone, with a couple folks (including Ken) saying that the DVCPro codec is basically indistiguishable from ProRes. So I will be using that codec on these tapes.
"Before ProRes came alomg, many people transcoded to DVCPRO HD (and DVCPRO 50), from Interframe, long GOP formats and other formats as well.  DVCPRO HD is 4:2:2, Intra frame with a bandwidth of 100 Mbits, excellent. The only difference between DVCPRO HD and ProRes is that ProRes is 10 bit and DVCPRO HD is 8 bit, but ProRes has a higher bandwidth of 144 and 220 Mbits (HQ).
Now we have ProRes which is an excellent alternative for HDV and XDCAM EX, etc. Everytime we transcode to a different codec we do lose something, so I would think that because these two formats are so very close I would stay in DVCPRO HD and not 'lose' any quality by transcoding to ProRes.
For me, FCP has always loved DVCPRO HD and runs it like a dream.
    My 2 cents.

  • Confused with uncompressed 422 prores capturing

Hey everyone. I've looked through the forums and am officially confused. What I want to do is capture uncompressed 422 1080 from an XH-A1 using the Motu HDX-SDI via Macbook Pro expresscard slot (Using the new macbook pro's...whenever they come out, no rush). Now my question is, can I do this using external hdd FW800? I've read multiple things that confused me on the bandwidth issue. Otherwise, is it possible to use a NAS, like a Lacie one, as the scratch disk?

What I want to do is capture uncompressed 422 1080 from an XH-A1 using the Motu HDX-SDI via Macbook Pro expresscard slot
And you can't do that. Laptops cannot capture uncompressed HD. That is something only MacPro towers can do. Only they have the ability to attach the serious FAST raid that you need in order to do Uncompressed. You need eSATA large eSATA RAID) Fibre or MiniSAS for the speeds we are talkng about. A laptop isn't up to the task.
Now my question is, can I do this using external hdd FW800?
Nope. Not even if you had a tower. You need a 5-6 drive eSATA or miniSAS or Fibrechannel connection for this.
Otherwise, is it possible to use a NAS, like a Lacie one, as the scratch disk?
NAS is for IT...INFORMATION. Business stuff...regular data. Not video, and DEFINATELY NOT uncompressed HD. You need to invest some dough in a GOOD drive enclosure that is designed for video work, and to handle uncompressed. Uncompressed HD isn't going to be had on the cheap. Well, it IS really, compared to a few years ago. But it is a LOT more than a simple firewire drive enclosure from LaCie.
www.caldigit.com HD ONE or HD PRO2
    www.maxxdigital.com EVO HD series
www.attotech.com Any of their RAID solutions.
BUT...no matter what, you can't do UNCOMPRESSED on a laptop. You can do ProRes, but only 720p with the MATROX or MOTU solution... but 1080 with AJA IO HD. A Tower is required if you want uncompressed.

  • Sony HVR-HD1000E capture setting in FCP 6.0.6

One of my clients has a Sony HVR-HD1000E mini-dv camera & contacted me when they were having trouble capturing video.
The camera captures at HDV 1080i50, so set FCP to this but says it cannot communicate with the camera. If I set FCP to DVCPRO HD-1080i50 then it communicates with the camera but when I try to capture, Preview is disabled. With the capture window open I then change the setting to DV PAL Anamorphic & apply the setting the preview window becomes active. I then change it back to DVCPRO HD-1080i50 & apply, the preview window is active & I can capture without any problems.
I spoke to Sony & they agree with me that FCP should be set to HDV 1080i50 & cannot explain why there is a problem other than FCP is having a bit of a wobble & needs reloading/updating etc.
I have connected the camera to three different machines with FCP 6 & all do the same, also tried different firewire cables but no difference.
I can tell you that it worked fine for about 6 months but no one knows on what settings so I'm hoping that someone with the same camera reads this & can tell me what settings they use.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Bob

    Hello there,
I am owner of HVR HD1000E and I am working with FCP 6.05. Here is the setup you should have in FCP and everything will work just perfect:
    OPEN - File - Audio/video settings:
    Summary: Seq.present - HDV 1080i50
                    Capture preset - HDV
Device control preset  - Sony HDV 1080i50 Firewire
Video Playback (if use) - Digital cinema desktop Prewiew
                    Audio Playback - Default
    Sequence preset: HDV 1080i50
    Capture preset: HDV
Device control preset: Sony HDV 1080i50 Firewire
    Thats it!
Open Sequence in FCP and check Settings:
    General: Frame size: 1440x1080 (16:9)
                 Pixel aspect ratio: HD 1440x1080
                 Field dominance: None
                 Compressor: HDV 1080i50
                 Audio: 48kHz, 16bit, stereo
For export use: Quicktime movie, CURRENT Settings! If you want small file size and very quick export, than unchecked "make movie self contained". But if you wish your mov file transport to other computer..., than you must check "make movie self contained". In booth cases you're movie will be 1920x1080 HD crystal picture!
I hope my help isn't too late!
    Best regards from Slovenia

  • I can not connect to my work e-mail using both regular e-mail set-up and mail 2003 (work has Outlook 2003).  I get the error message "no internet connection- as soon as a connection is made it will switch back".  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Why can't I connect to my work e-mail (Outlook 2003) using either the regular e-mail account set-up or Mail 2003? Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have yet to find an email server that does not work with Mail.app. Your solution will be to configure its ports and send/receive protocol according to the email server's requirements.
Try the Zimbra support forums. I found this excerpt from a relevant post:

  • New camera, problems with capture setting

    Hi-
I just got a new Canon Vixia HD30. I'm using FCP 5.1.3, and I can't find the correct settings for capture. I've tried a variety of mix and match between the camera settings (HDV, HDV30, HDV24, etc.) and the available settings on FCP (HDV, HDV 1080i60, etc.) but I'm not getting full functionality. It is recognizing the camera when I go to Log and Capture and I can capture clips when the FCP setting is HDV, but there are two problems:
    1. (most significant) The captured clips need rendering when I put them in the timeline.
    2. The captured clips, when opened as clips, are not synched with the audio. (I've had this issue before with a previous camera, many years ago, but can't seem to solve it this time.)
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Zack

    Dear Zach,
Did you ever solve this problem? I've run into the same issues: having to render clips captured from a new Canon Vixia HV30 when I put them in my timeline. A considerable waste of time. I just wonder if you ever figured it out.
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Odd ProRes sequence set-up behavior in Premiere Pro CC

When I create a new sequence by dragging a ProRes HQ file onto New Item icon, it creates a DNxHD sequence.  My ProRes HQ footage is captured by the Blackmagic Shuttle2 recorder, and MediaInfo verifies it is ProRes.  Yet the sequence settings in Premiere Pro CC show:
    Editing Mode:  DNX 145 1080i
    Video Previews box:
    Preview File Format: DNX 145 1080i 59.94
    Codec:  DNxHD
I am on a Mac with Quicktime 7 installed.  There is no problem ingesting and importing the ProRes HQ camera video files into Premiere Pro.  I am just not seeing a ProRes sequence being created.  Is there something else I should test for?
    Thanks.

    No, sadly.
I went into great deal about it here:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/5457995#5457995 , and here :http://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/3/942978 ; it seems to be a 'well known' bug?
I can work around the sequence not matching the clip properties, but I want the export settings to match the clip properties (which is why I wanted the sequence settings to match the clip properties; because then I can do an export using sequence settings).  I can't do that now unless I do it manually....anyway, see my first link above for the details.
    Thanks!
    ~Michael

  • FCP 4.5 capture setting is weird

when I check the data on my clips I captured it reads a different aspect ratio.
I captured footage from my Canon GL2 at 640 x 480 and when before i drag them on to my timeline I make sure my sequence settings are set to 'Square' and '640 x 480' aspect ratio and everything seems and looks fine but when I check the information of the clip it says it was captured at 720 x 480?
What does this mean and will it cause further problems later on.

    capture settings
    using dv video for input
    canon dv using NTSC
    29.97 frames per second
    MPEG-4 video at best quality
    24 bits per pixel
    640 by 480
using DV audio for audio input
    input: first 2 channels
    rate: 48,000 kHz
    speaker: off
    volume: 100, gain: 0
so anytime I record this I should use this settting and set my Pixel Aspect Ratio (on my sequence preset) to Square. It looks good on the timeline but I'm concerned because I need to output this to DVD.
