No reply arrow/icon shown after replying to messages in Mail.

I've seen a number of discussions on this topic but I still have not found a solution.
When I respond to a message in one of my Google Apps (IMAP) accounts, sometimes it will show the reply arrow/icon next to the original message but most times it will not. The other weird part is that it only happens in one specific mailbox. Other than my iCloud mailbox, I have three Google Apps IMAP accounts, but this specific mailbox is the only one that has these inconsistencies. The only time i can get the arrow/icon to show is when i'm replying to one of my other two Google Apps accounts. The message always goes through, it's just that it doesn't show the reply arrow/icon and it's very frustrating to have to go to the sent mailbox everytime just to see if i have responded to a message.
I'm running Mac OSX 10.7.2. and Mail version 5.1
I've already tried the following to no avail:
Rebuild the maillbox
ReIndex the entire mail.app
Deleted the cache folder in /Library/Caches/Mail
Deleting the mailbox and readding it
Repaired disk permissions and restarted computer

Try actually opening message and clicking reply icon to respond rather than right clicking on message preview.  I have had same bug (which Apple should fix all the same), but have found that if you open the message as its own discreet window, then the "replied to" icon will appear.  Hope this is helpful

  • I just purchased my I MAC, and set up my aol and gmail to the desktop icon.  After deleting some messages tonight, I tried to shut down from the menu and received the message "Shutdown canceled because mail application is still open"--icon not working.

I just purchased this IMac yesterday, and set up my two email accounts to the mail icon today.   This evening, after deleting some messages, I was not able to open the mail icon nor shutdown, restart, or log off the computer from the menu.  I keep receiving the message "shutdown canceled by mail application".  Really frustrating.

Press Alt, Command and Esc keys to open Force Quit. Then, on the window that will show up, choose Mail and close it. Finally, you will be able to turn off your iMac

  • Error icon shown after restarting

I have upgraded my Mac Mini from Mavericks to Yosemite, the installation ran fine and the system started up into Yosemite without issues. However after restarting my machine, a white screen with an Apple logo appears with a progress bar below it, the progress bar will go up to about 35% and then show an error icon.
How can I fix this? Unfortunately I did not make a backup of the OS nor do I use Time Machine.
What are my options? Is there a way I can read through the logs to see what is failing to possibly try and fix it?

  • If your Send / button icons are missing in new messages in Mail, do this

I was mystified as to why the button icons (for Send, Attach, etc) were suddenly missing from my "new message" email windows. The text descriptions were still there, so i could use the functions, but they were in tiny text, more difficult to click on. Trying to drag the icons back on from the view/customize toolbar menus (as was suggested in prior discussions i found here here) did not work.
Then i noticed a drop-down menu called "Show" in the bottom left of the View> Customize Toolbar window (opened directly from a New Message window). It toggles whether you see Text Only, Icons and Text, or Icons Only. Mine was somehow set to Text Only. Just toggling it to Text and Icons brought my buttons back.
I don't know how that preference got changed- i didn't do it, and no one else has access to my Mac- and it looks from Discussions like this has happened to others, and only while in New Message (a glitch?).
This is the simple but not immediately apparent fix.

Thanks Bernd:  I am using Adobe Acrobat 10 Pro.  I did get a response from Dave Marchant which directed me how to find the layers icon and I found the options icon as suggested in Adobe Help.  However, the options do not allow me to choose an option of either merging layers or flattening layers.  I am a novice at this and am trying to get this 1-page pdf graphic to convert to a Word document.  Is it possible that I already have a single layer pdf and that Word is doing something weird during the conversion?  I tried to convert the document yesterday and I ended up with two pages in Word.  One page had the text boxes and one had the river channels on which the text boxes had been inserted.  This is not a document I created.  We have been struggling for 5 years at various times to get this one page document into Word so that it can be used in multiple reports.  Even the graphics departments at a couple of companies have not been able to get this document resized from the original 11 x 17 format into 8.5 x 11.  I managed to get that done yesterday.  But now can't get a useable version into Word.  Suggestions?

  • The new Reply with Message or Reminde me Later options are not showing on iPhone 3GS after upgrade to ios 6

I just upgraded 2 iPhone 3GS to ios 6 and on neither one is there an option to "Reply With Message" or "Remind Me Later" when there is an incoming call. There is no little phone icon (like the camera one on the lock screen) that you can drag up to expose the new options. Is there something more that needs to be done to enable these features? I tried changing the 3 canned messages from the settings but with the same result. From what I read this is suppose to be available on iPhone 3GS

Swiping up does nothing, the options do not appear. I tried swiping up all over the screen when a call comes in and nothing. The incoming call screen looks identical to how it appeared in ios 5. My understanding was that with ios 6 there is supposed to be a little phone icon in the bottom right hand corner (similar to the camera icon on the lock screen) appear on the incoming call screen and you swip up on this icon to reveal the options. This icon is not shown on the incoming call screen on either phone.

  • After updating to iOS 6.1 reply with message is not working

Apparently after I updated to iOS 6.1 when somebody rings I do not have the option of replying with message or any other option. Is there a setting that I need to do or is software based?

    Are you sliding this up?

  • When I power up my mac, I see the white screen and the apple icon. After a few seconds of powering up the screen goes dark. Yet I still can the mouse arrow but nothing else.

When I power up my Imac, I see the white screen and the apple icon. After a few seconds the screen goes dark. I am able to still see the mouse arrow as I move it around. But nothing else. What is the problem and how do I recover?

    Try this from another user:
    1. Shut the computer down by holding the power button for 10 seconds
    2. Restart the computer and press shift at the same time until you see the progress bar start moving
    3. Once you reach the point where your screen goes dark and you see the cursor, type the first letter of the username for your computer, then hit Enter, then type your password, then hit Enter.
    4. After a moment, you should see the spinning beach ball
    5. Your screen should then move on to something along the lines of "Completing OSX Installation" (I can't remember the exact wording). Let it finish. After that it should go to your normal desktop and the issue should be fixed. (If your screen goes pitch black during this process, hit the space bar. I thought it wasn't working, but the screen was just sleeping).

  • No "Reply With Message" option on iPhone 3GS after ios 6

I know this has been asked before, but there were no answers given . . . my 3GS has no "Reply With Message" option for incoming calls.  I've already done a reset, thinking something may have not completely carried over after upgrading to iOS 6, but it didn't change anything.
Anyone know how to get this option working???

You don't see the little phone in the lower right when a call comes in?
    You swipe that up...

  • Red & Green Arrow Icon when Importing

Does anyone know why I have a red & green arrow icon appear, when I am importing a clip (v 11)?  I then have to repeat the process, and the clip appears.  The first 80+ clips were fine, then this problem started.  This is very frustrating!

    Hi Bill,
Sorry for the delay in replying.  I have spent the time de-cluttering / removing programs, clearing the registry, and de-fragging.
I then carried out a number of tests:
Opened Task Manager and the Resource Monitor.  Both registered zero on CPU usage (no programs running).
Opened Premier Elements - both registered between 1 and 2% CPU usage.
I then opened Organizer (from the bottom of Premier) - both CPU usages jumped to 100%.  Computer slowed considerably.
It is interesting that Organizer still does not show all my JPGs (between 5 and 10%), the rest are icons - either an hour glass, or the flower question mark.  Where some of the JPGs are showing, only a fraction of the ones in the folder have been imported.
I then closed Organizer (exit from Premier) - CPU usage in both remained at 100% (even after 10 minutes)
I then closed Premier (exit) - CPU usage in both remained at 100%.
Organizer is still running in the Resource Monitor (average 96.85%), along with Elements Auto Analyzer (0%) and Adobe QT32 Server.exe (0%).  The same is happening in Task Manager, except Organizer is taking 99% CPU usage.
It is 40 minutes since the programs have been closed.
My picture and video folders are as follows:
        My Pictures:   104GB    29994 files    585 folders
        Videos:          269GB    12290 files    277 folders
        HDD:            Used:    488GB
                            Free     432GB
    Core i7  2.8GHz
    8GB RAM
    Win 7 64-bit
My apologies for such a lengthy reply, but I am at a loss as to what may be wrong!
Can I clear Organizer totally, and see if that works?
    Should I delete a portion of my pictures / videos?  (I have a back-up).
    Your assistance is so appreciated.
    Michael
P.S.  The only way to clear my memory, is to re-start.

  • Reply/Forward Indicator in Mail

For some odd reason, any message that I either "Forward" or "Reply" to in my Inbox, does not show the respective arrow icons. The Forward arrow icon being a horizontal arrow pointing to the right and the Reply icon being curved arrow which goes from down to the left. This only happens from messages in my Inbox, when I Forward/Reply from my Sent box or even Trash the icons come perfectly. I hope someone can help me in this case.

I am having the same issue, were you able to resolve it?

  • Can't get to Sent Messages via backward arrow icon

When selecting the backward arrow icon in the mail column view I always get an error message reading 'Mail was unable to find your response to the message “message title”. You may have deleted the message.'
This occurs ALL the time and with ALL messages I've sent, even right after sending an e-mail. What is the problem here? I certainly did not delete the copy of the outgoing message. It still always can be found in the sent message mailbox.
    Can anyone help?

    Ernie
Yes, I have (and on rare occasion use) webmail access to my IMAP account.
I mentioned the bit about the system generated Sent, Trash and Draft folders to indicate that I'm aware that the Sent (etc.) mailbox that shows up under my account in the sidebar is a different mailbox, generated automatically by the mail server. It is unused (and remains empty) except for when I compose and send messages through the webmail interface (which is so rare as to be virtually never).
I can see why it might be thought that Mail is getting confused between the Sent mailboxes (i.e. they seem to share the same name and to serve a similar function), but I can't really see why Mail actually would get confused: If an application can at one time recognise the difference between two folders, why not at all times? And wouldn't the threading function be consistent in the way it searches for replies (or annotates them for future reference) such that it would either always work or never work (since one of the sent mailboxes never contains messages)?
(That said, I'm more than ready to accept that my inability to see why Mail would get confused is owing to my relative ignorance about how these things work.)
In any case, Mail is saving sent mail to the Sent mailbox stored on the HD and never to the Sent folder on the server.
"Command-I" on the Sent mailbox in the sidebar shows the same settings for mailbox behaviour as is shown in Mail preferences.
What I find bewildering about this quirk is not so much that the threading doesn't work, but rather that it works inconsistently. Then again, that's probably because I am, as with most lay-users, fairly incapable of appreciating the enourmous complexity of cross-reference (etc.) underpinning what appear to be simple actions whose effects are expected to be uniform.
Forgive my speculative digression, Ernie, and thanks for your continued assistance.

  • Can't see sent mail using little arrow icon

Not sure when this started but when I click next to a mail message to see what I replied, the little icon with the arrow now fails to bring up the sent mail. This is on my mac laptop. It works fine on my MacPro. I have deleted the plist for mail and set everything up again but that didn't do the trick. I rebuilt the mail box and that didn't work either. I went to a fairly recent backup and replaced the plist, but again, nothing. I've seen other threads about this problem, but no solutions. Anyone have any good ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I would recommend looking at the following knowledge base article that explains this feature.
