No reply field in large iMessage

Recently I've been unable to send a reply to a group iMessage I've received that's part of a long conversation. The little bar at the bottom with the options to attach a photo, write text, and use voice commands just doesn't show up. It works on other messages I have stored, but I wager they are a lot smaller (I'm not sure how to check the sizes of individual conversations). Does anyone know a fix for this? In the meantime, I've been constructing new messages addressed to the group members, but that seems a bit cumbersome to be honest.

Then you have to restore the phone. Make sure you back up before you do it though any questions ask me
Here is some info in how to do it http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

My messages app won't open, after I sent a large iMessage. I think it just has too much data on it. What can I do other then reset my iPhone?

Hi everyone, I had this problem but none of the solutions above worked. What happened with me, and with others in other forums, is that a particular thread or message was causing the problem. I'd go to open the message and all I'd get was a white screen with the blue bar at the top. So, I went into contacts, pressed 'send message' to a contact whose message wasn't causing the problem, then I pressed back to messages. You then swipe to the left on the thread that's causing the problem, and delete it. Sadly this means you will lose all that person's messages, but you can try opening it from there and deleting it on the thread. Didn't work for me though. Hope that helps! It was the only thing that worked for me after about three days of total frustration and resetting!

  • Arbitrary email addresses in send and reply fields

I have been trying to figure this out for a while, so apologies if it seems obvious. I have a domain foo.com and use many different addresses [email protected], [email protected], etc to distinguish mail from different senders. For example, if I set up an account at amazon I give an email address of [email protected] to allow simple spam filtering and categorization. Then I open a gate in mac mail by adding a rule saying allow mail to "[email protected]". All these addresses (and there are MANY of them) are directed through a single account by my host service. Though the "to" field distinguishes them, the account they come in under is associated with an official email address of "[email protected]".
Sometimes I need to send an email from one of these addresses. In particular, certain sites require an email+reply confirmation process which demands that the reply come from the [email protected] address. Often the original is sent via a web form, so mac mail plays no role. In mac mail, I can set the default to reply from a fixed address (from the list of official account email addresses) or from the official address of the "account" I last looked at, etc. I can also select from a pull down list of the official account email addresses. However, without adding a bzillion email addresses to the list by hand (and selecting or changing the prefs each time), I can't seem to simply modify the reply-from address or the sent-from address to be arbitrary. I want to do 1 of 2 things:
    1. Easily and directly edit the sent from or reply from field of a single email without changing any default settings or going into a preferences pane.
or 2. Set a default of "reply-from" the address to which the email was addressed (rather than the account).
I imagine the 2nd is problematic because there is no way to identify the address which is "me" in the recipient line if it is not known (like the "official" account address). I know how to do the 1st with sendmail, but that kind of defeats the purpose of using mac mail for integration.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Cheers,
    Ken

Thanks for the reply, but that doesn't quite help. I don't want to have to go into preferences and add a new address each time I reply. There are over 100 of these addresses and most get used infrequently. I want to simply edit a field in the email directly. The drop down menu solution doesn't work with a large and constantly growing set of addresses. Imagine you have [email protected] through [email protected] on your domain bar.com. If you get an email addressed to [email protected] you wouldn't want to have to go into preferences and add that to the allowed list before being able to reply. I want to simply reply as [email protected] There are legitimate reasons to set stuff up like this. I just want to be able to edit the "from" field in an email message the same way I can edit the "to" field. It would be equally frustrating if I had to go into preferences to add a recipient's email address every time I wanted to send one out.

  • Used email to text from non-Apple account on a PC, recipient's reply went to my iMessage. She just responded to what I sent.

I'm at a loss on how to troubleshoot this. It's a big deal because this is a client and prompt communication is key - hard to do when replies are heading off to wherever.
The original email was sent from an AOL account on my desktop. The recipient was entered as [email protected], the from was my non-Apple email address. Her response showed up only on my phone as an iMessage, and she is certain that all she did was reply to my text.
What do I even check in this case? Is there a setting on her phone that might cause this? I don't have her phone specs available, unfortunately.

    It is confusing!
The original message went from my email account ([email protected]) to the recipient [email protected] Our office frequently uses this method to send text messages to clients.
She hit reply to that message, and instead of going back to the orignating address (which is typical, we do this all the time), it went to iMessage - even though my iPhone had not been in any way involved in the exchange.
I just disassociated my email address from iMessage using the directions you gave. I believe that should fix the problem.
    Thanks for your assistance!

  • IPhone will get an iMessage, then reply as SMS, then iMessage again

Ever since I got an iPhone 6 with iOS 8 (and any version of iOS 8 released to date), I've had frustrating issues with the phone refusing to send things as an iMessage to other users that I KNOW have good service or are on WiFi.
I am sometimes in poor service areas, and that I understand.  My iPhone 4 sometimes had trouble sending iMessages from work, and it would fail, and I'd have to resend as a SMS.
However, even when I'm in an area with 5 bars of LTE or on a great WiFi connection at home...I still have trouble.  I can usually receive iMessages no problem in a good service area.  I can even get one as an iMessage, unlock the phone, and it will refuse to send as an iMessage - I either get "failed" or it just sends as a SMS straight away.  If I get the failed message, the phone doesn't even bother to attempt resending it when you hit "Try Again" like my iPhone 4 did.
I have tried resetting network settings multiple times, turning on/off iMessage, hard-resetting the phone, setting up the phone as a new phone, and de-registering/re-registering my iMessage account with the phone.  Curiously enough, my iPhone 4 on WiFi only still sends the message without a hitch EVERY TIME.
Is this just an iPhone 6/iOS 8 thing?

Oh...once it sends as a SMS, the next one will send as an iMessage with no problem at all.  I don't think I added that.

  • When typing an iMessage from a Mac or other non iPhone device how do you get a subject field?

From the iPhone there is now an option to add a subject field to your iMessages.  This can be nice but what about doing it from the MAC or other device.  Also how do you insert a line break (which I'm told is alt/option enter) from an iPhone.  Sorry two questions in one.

    Hi,
The Messages app on the Mac has no means of indicating a "title" or subject matter.
It only sends messages be they iMessages to Contacts or IM (instant Messages) to Buddies on various services that you could join.
Re 1) The AIM service added the ability to use the "/me" lead in/pre-emptive text which adds the little grey center info text to AIM chats as my pics show.
In other services that do not support "/me" you see a sentence that starts "/me".
On the iPhone as an  iMessages item it appears like this
They appear as Sent items due to the Sync process.
    Re 2)  No.
I am just suggesting using a feature that works in the Messages (and the previous iChat) App using an AIM Account in Messages (as it appears to work at your end all the time in any account) so that you can create something that can be used as a "subject" marker.
    re 3) Yes.
The original premise was you sent something like "/me waves" which appears like the time stamps as "Your Name waves"  (Your Name on the other depends on what they have in their Address Book or Contacts app as your details (you could appear as just a Buddy ID of some sort.)
Enlarging part of that earlier pic.
    The so called Subject one.
Grammatically it could do with a 'has".
    Re 4.
AOL (who Own AOL Instant Messenger)  gave out AIM names with AOL accounts  and with accounts with other companies that they owned.
At one time they owned Netscape  Mostly Netscape referred to a Browser that was popular on the Mac at the time.  It had a Messenger part added to what it could do and registration gave you an AIM ID (Screen Name)
This tended to be the Username part of your your account name which was an email.
We are talking when there were computers sold by Apple that could boot into OS 9 as easily as they did into OS 10.2.
iChat 2 that did the first Video chats was in OS X 10.3
At that point iChat was an AIM only client.  This continued until iChat 3 which added Jabber (and that version required a small amount of work to add a GoogleTalk ID)
Basically when I bought the G4 Tower listed below I already had an AIM name by preferring to use Netscape over Internet Explorer.
At various points I have tried ProteusX  (the Original Site seems to have gone now).
    I have also tried AdiumX
Both these were and are text only multiple service apps.
I have used Psi  This is a Jabber only app.  It is a bit "windowsy" as it is a cross platform app written in Java (means you have to download and Install Java and keep it updated)
I got it for doing this http://allforces.com/2005/05/06/ichat-to-msn-through-jabber/
These instructions need you to be able to "register" for Transport on Jabber servers which then allows you to link to your MSN or other service account to in turn add those Buddies to your Jabber Buddy List.
I have tended to Stick with using my AIM name as my main form in iChat and Messages because it has the Privacy and Security settings that allow you to Block people, or have Allow Specific people or Allow Buddy List only people as ways of restricting who can see when you are on Line.
AIM also works with Apple IDs ending with @mac.com and iCloud linked @me.com and @icloud.com  (Lapsed @me.com from MobileMe will not work)
You have to keep the password to 16 characters or less to work with the AIM servers.
There is also MeBeam  which has been known as Koowy  (coo-we) for a while and currently seems to promote itself as "CuSeeMe.tv"
It as a site you will need Flash for.
It then, when you allow it, has access to your Camera and Microphone and you can video to people in "rooms" (private URL) you create.
I have tried Skype in it's early days.
It shares your connection to the internet to make lots of connections to maintain a non centralised service.
This makes it vunerable to "Man-in-the-Middle" attacks becasue at time you are the man in the middle.
Each download used to list it's own Specified port to use but if you didn't set it it used port 80 (web Browsing or port 110 (mostly mail) to connect.  Some see this as defeating your firewall or router as it is not made clear in the set up.
I have Office 2004, and 2008 and whatever the last one for Macs was called. (2011 I see on the box)
This has MSN Messenger which I have tried but don't like  (Microsoft do some great Apple apps in the Office collection but MSN is not one of the).
Yahoo has been in some variant of Beta 3 for almost as long as the OS has been OS X  (it is certainly about 8 years).
It never seems to get to a first GM release.
This can do "video" but broadcasts this to anyone and the Audio is then to one Buddy.
Basically iChat was the app I used first and an AIM name I already had.
Over the years I have created several Apple ID (some during a time when @mac.com name could be registered as "iChat Names"  after the .Mac service had finished).
    AIM have always been there.
Google has been there some of the way.
(Other jabber servers can come and go)
I do have my Yahoo account set up in Messages but it basically was as a test and I rarely use it  (it is only text and does not  do Video in the iChat 6 or Messages apps).
I am not a great phone user so iMessaging people is limited for me.
(I know about 2 people who I could iMessage outside of my family).

    Hi,
Could you manage to grab a Screen Shot of that ?
CMD + SHIFT + 4 and describe around the area.
It can then be posted here using the camera icon in the reply field.
I get the impression that the side bar shows several conversations or chats and that clicking on one is not being that one to the "front" or make it the focused Chat is any way.
If a dialogue box is appearing at this stage it would appear to be one I have not seen before unless you are choosing Delete from a Right click menu or the File Menu which make this one pop up.
Does the selected Chat/conversation appear in the Recent Items List ?
Can you access it from there ?
The default length of the list is 10 items set in System Preferences > General pane (along with Servers and Applications as "Documents").
If the Conversation is before this it will have been dropped from the list.
It is late where I am and it will be some time before I reply again.

  • My iMessage refuses to work on my iPhone 4. My number is grayed out under the Messages Receive At iMessage. Please help!

When iMessage is turned on, it greys out my phone number (used to be stuck at "Verifying..." but now it just says "Phone"). Only my Email is clickable but it won't let me remove it. When I go to my Message app, only Text Message-ing is an option (showing green instead of the usual blue). This applies to all my friends who are iPhone users. I've tried Network Restart, phone restart, phone hard restart, shutting down Settings, shutting down Messages, ... now what else can I do? Please help. Much appreciated.

"Anyway, look at Settings > Messages > Receive At
I assume you mean a row that says "Phone" and your number is grayed out there.  That is normal."
    Check. Good that it's normal
"Now go down to "Caller ID".  There you should see your phone number, probably checked, as well as your Apple ID (alternate message ID)."
Check. My phone number has a check mark next to it.
If all that's true and you have iMessage "On" in Settings > Messages, you're good to go!
Nope. My texting is still stubbornly green and it says "Text Message" in the field rather than "iMessage."

  • How can I access iMessages from iTunes backup?

I backed up my iPhone since I needed to backup a really large iMessage conversation and I read this was a way to do it
Now I want to access it from my computer
    how can I do this?

    Anindan wrote:
how can i access sms from itunes back up
You will need a Backup Extractor program; there are many available. I use iScavenge for Mac, but there are many more. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=iphone+backup+extractor The one at the top of the search claims to be free, but it is not. Don't be fooled. I can't recommend for or against any of them, except iScavenge, which is OK.
If you are technically inclined the backup is a SQLite database, so a SQLite browser can also open the backup.

    Hi there,
Table & table attributes are defined by the ABAPers. Not by finctional consultants.
You need to have an access key to define new tables & access sequence.
Check with your ABAPer. He will be able to help you with that.

  • Why does Large text in a Form get cut off at the top when I save it as a PDF

Hi. I've created a form in Acrobat with 2 text fields. I set the size to 40pt and 30pts using Helvetica. When I fill out the form and save-as a PDF the text displays as cut off at the top.
Here's what I've tried so far:
Making the text fields MUCH larger than the font.
Changing fonts. I've tried Helvetica, Verdana, Arial
    Selecting Multi-line
Does anyone know how I can keep it from cutting off? The only solution I've been able to find thus far is reducing the font size significantly, which is not an option.
    THANKS!

I'm using Acrbat Pro version 10.1.4
The text looks perfect in Acrobat. I'm choosing File > Save As from Acrobat and then when I open it with Preview or Reader it cut's off the text.
    Thanks for your help.
