  • No response from keyboard or trackpad

    Hey,
Sorry for the double post but I originally put it in the wrong forum
I purchased my aluminum MacBook in February and from them I'VE been having issues with both my track pad and keyboard. Every once in a while I will get no response from my keyboard, for about a minute or two (no matter what key is pressed, nothing will show on the screen as being pressed). As well i will get no response from the track pad for a few minutes every now and then.
    What should I do?

    Hi, Vassey,
does this mean that the computer is not responsive for a few minutes? Will the character which you hit (at least the first) show up after a while? it could be two problems:
    - faultive keyboard and TP,
    - computer is busy with other stuff.
if you hit a key, and get a very late answer, then its the computer busy problem.
if you don't get any answer, but occasionally only a response for the simple fact you are hitting again and again some keys, then it might be the KB.
In the second case, you might need to get Apple to repair the KB and TP. In the first case, we should try to find out why your computer is busy.
Try to figure out which is the situation, and report back. Also, it might be VERY useful if you give more details about your computer (memory, processor etc) and the applications with which this happens.
    Hope this helps, Thomas

  • FASTER RESPONSE FROM keyboard/mouse actions?

1.42 GHz PPC G4, 1GB DDR SD Ram (4200 rph HD)
How can I DECREASE computer RESPONSE action/time to day to day activities?
It is not clear what 'slows down' software/computer responses and causes the spinning balls in relatively simple actions.
My usage is not 'heavy' nor 'complex'; Typically Mail, Safari, FoxFire, Word 2007, TextEditPlus,
QuickTime (music on occasion). Occasionally Adobe Reader and Photoshop Elements. Safari often more spinning balls than others.
By turning OFF USB an external HD with switching Power Supply that helps avoid delays. But what
    else can be done?
I choose to stay with Tiger 10.4.11 - and do NOT chose to go to a later version of the OS.
Is there a "faster response" time for later versions of the Mini?
Given that my first Mac was a 400k floppy machine with MacWrite and MacDraw - in relative terms we I do now is like a supersonic jet... but mine needs a booster -
    ideas??

Your computer's list of items in-use, per Activity Monitor, tell you
what is running and while these are Active, give an idea of how
much of the computer's configuration (hard/soft-ware) resources
are being used. Also, the Activity Monitor can tell you the load
of Virtual Memory and actual Chip RAM demands of Apps.
The interface of USB mouse and keyboard can act slowed-down
when the computer resources are running loaded. Even with up
to 75% hard disk drive free-space (unused, except for system
use as Virtual Memory and application temp or swap space) my
computer with an 8GB HDD can also, at times, have a slow key-
    board and mouse.
If you have more than one browser window open, or run Office
and some other apps at the same time, the overall load on the
Mini G4 (with the 1024MB max RAM installed) can be critical.
The virtual memory write/read cycles to the hard disk drive
increase, and this will also add to a lag when there is a rush
of demand on diminishing resources; plus, a tired old HDD.
Do you occasionally log-out of the main user account and log
back in? This can sometimes help free-up RAM and other use
of system resources, without having to restart the Mac.
How often do you restart the computer, & do you leave it to sleep
when not in use, or do you power it off? Just curious.
As the computer gets older and the hard disk drive more worn,
it may be running warmer and slower; less efficiently and tired,
this lag may be more apparent and point to a need to replace
the internal hard disk drive with a new, larger & better spec unit.
In some instances, there had been a controversy over which was
faster to the computer's processor and RAM (system bus) - be it
a 400 Mbit FW400 external hard disk drive, or a hard disk drive
on the computer's own bus. Some tests, machine series dependant,
showed a variable; with some FW400 enclosures running slower
than the internal computer's hard disk drive.
I've found both slower and faster (depending on the computer)
using an external HDD in FireWire400 enclosure, vs the native
drive; with even a 7200 RPM 250GB HDD running thoroughput
slower than an internal 5400 RPM 80GB drive; but not always.
Do you use a powered USB hub with the peripheral items your
computer is attached to, when running the Mini? For mine, the
better setup was to use powered USB hubs, with the keyboard
plugged directly into the Mac (for startup keyboard combo access)
and the mouse plugged into a port on the powered USB hub.
To note, if there is an issue with this set-up, to troubleshoot the
powered USB hub and have a spare keyboard & mouse available.
Usually, an over-whelmed USB port in a computer will give you a
warning message implying an under-powered state exists, & near
the total possible output of voltage to the USB port is approached.
The USB bus can only support a limited ceiling; there also is a limit
on FW port loads, and devices exceeding that amount will affect all
items on their respective bus. (Example why self-powered is best.)
When you went to the AppleJack download page and clicked on
the link to get the download to start, does your browser show you
a Downloads list and ask you where/how you want the item saved?
    I have mine set so I can see any/all items, choose to install them;
& have the .dmg or other image file on the desktop where I can
see it. (In 10.5.8, the default is in a Dock location for Downloads.)
How the browser is set to handle downloads can affect results.
If your computer has been acting oddly, there may be some
kind of file corruption or data corruption causing issues in it.
This link, in Firefox, goes to the download item for AppleJack
directly, in my browser, the default is set and asks me what
I want to do about it. The main option is to accept it and then
it will download to the desktop (Tiger 10.4.11) as a .dmg. It
will not open, and does not display some kind of picture:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/applejack/files/AppleJack/AppleJack-1.6/AppleJac k-1.6.dmg/download
You should make a good backup, a bootable clone of your Mini's
entire hard disk drive contents, test it well, and then consider a
course of maintenance and repair of the internal hard drive; or get
a new replacement hard disk drive and upgrade the Mini with it.
Only 5 interruptions here, in the course of this reply to the question.
(Could be worse; some days they can be hours long; or weeks.
There is a story, non-computer related to the reader, going on.)
{Spindown Fix software has been tested in Mac OS X 10.2.3 only.
The older software suggested, may help if the external is going to
sleep if used as a boot startup volume; since once a external boot
    FW goes to sleep, the computer may not see it when it awakens.}
The Mini is sort of like a portable computer, in that the hard drive
gets a thorough work-out and it has limited upgrade capabilities.
So, for a hard disk drive to last 3 to 5 years, is lucky run. At least
    the unit isn't being hauled around while asleep, as a 'Book may;
and isn't as likely to be dropped from the lap while it's running...!
    +{Yes, it's a long post. Sorta like a Totem.}+
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Safari ipad - Delayed Response from Keyboard when typing in website address

Delays up to 30 seconds only when typing in the address.  No delay when typing in the search. Any suggestions please?

That certainly is not right. I get a slight delay at times but I'm talking about a second or two.
Did you reboot? Quit Safari? Quit all apps and restart? Clear Safari?
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit all apps and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Clear Safari. Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Cache or Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • No response from builtin keyboard/mouse on wake from sleep

When waking my powerbooks (both have tiger installed) there is no response from the built in devices (trackpad/keyboard) for roughly 20 seconds. An external mouse already connected works as usual.
This is a pain especially when you just want to check the dashboard or something quickly.
The second powerbook didn't have the problem on 10.3.9, but when I installed Tiger on it, the same problem happened straight away. There aren't any thrid-party extensions installed on the computer.
I haven't been able to find anyone else with the same problem, if anyone has any ideas, it would be much appreciated, thanks.
    12" Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I also can offer no help....
But today I was working in MS word (2001, no service pack added) while using a bluetooth mouse, and itunes. With a word document opened I took a break from writing and listened to music on iTunes for about 15 minutes (I think my computer went to sleep... at least the monitor did). when I was done and started using word again the vast majority of the keypad did not work. the F buttons did work, as did 4-delete, and u to \, but everything else on the keypad did not work at all. Restarting word did not fix it, restartign the computer did not fix it, but turning the computer off and then back on did fix it (which was good because the keypad did not even allow me to enter my password at startup).
This was a 12" 1.5gig powerbook using office X (no service pack) and the OS 10.4.6. Again, since then I downloaded the office service pack.
    odd issue.

  • Equium M40x-148: From where can I get the Recovery disk

I am looking for a Recovery CD for my Equium m40x 148.
Is there anyone that could help?

Many thanks to anyone with a solution

    Hi
Why do you dont contact the nearest authorized service provider? They should be able to order a new recovery disk for you.
Maybe they have one in stock and you directly have it if you buy a coffee or so ;)
Here you can search the nearest authorized service provider:

  • OS 10.4.8 Mac Book Pro - Delayed response  to keyboard input

Often, not long after I start up, I experience a delay between typing or deleting - or anything else from the keyboard - and the response from the screen. Sometimes several seconds. I can cure it by restarting and I often have to several times a day. Doesn't appear to be specific to having a particular application running.
    Any ideas?

I seem to have solved it. Via 'Menu Meters" i noted that the processor was very busy while I was typing. So I opened Activity Monitor and found that "Caps warn" and 'typeit4me were very busy - as was Mail. So I downloded that latest version of both and all seems to be well.

  • Cannot download Adobe Flash Player on Equium M40X-189

I am unable to download the latest version of Adobe Flash Player on my Equium M40X 189.
This is needed for many applications, and has recently become absolutely essential as BBC radio now only broadcasts on the internet via BBC i-player, which I cannot use without Flash Player.
I searched for help on this problem a while back and the advice then was that the BIOS needed to be updated.
I have today checked with the official Toshiba site, and it seems my BIOS is the current version and does not need updating.
Is there anyone out there who can help me solve this problem?
    Many thanks

Sorry - perhaps I didn't spell out the problem correctly. I have tried downloading from all sort of pages on the web, including the official Adobe site and BBC Radio. I have also taken the Adobe advice and checked that I have uninstalled all other version of Flash Player before atempting to download. The same thing always happens - the download seems to start OK, but I get to the bit where the Adobe page says something like "when you can see the movie playing in the box above the installation is complete". Trouble is the movie never plays, and the player has not been installed.

  • Equium M40x-149 - Icons on desktop apeared bigger

Hi there, I hope someone can help me.
I booted up my laptop today and the icons on the desktop appeared bigger. I right clicked on the desktop then went to properties-settings and noticed that the highest resolution I could get was 1024x768, but when I checked the spec of my computer online, I found that it should by as high as 1280x800.
My laptop is an Equium M40x-149. The slider only goes from 800x600 to 1024x768 there is no inbetween.
I have tried system restore but to no avail.
    Help please

    Hi
This sounds like that the display driver should be updated. Please check the Toshiba page for an update:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
Before you install the newest version you should remove the old one first. Then restart the notebook and now install the newest version.
Normally if the display driver is installed correctly you should be able to choose the higher screen resolution.

  • Equium M40X - Can not open IE7 or sent email

I am using WXP home SP3 and the latest Atheros AR5005GS Wireless Network Adapter on my Equium M40X, and have no problem with creating wireless
    connections .
But when I connected on to my Wi-Fi, and try to open IE7 or sent email from my office 2007 outlook the *"Connect To"* window appears but as it only as my dial up connections are displayed I cannot open my IE7 etc, however I can connect to my firefox browser as it not the default
As I need to use both my dial-up & wifi can anyone help me sort out as to why I am having this problem.

    Hi!
This is strange but have you installed all updates for your Windows?
Maybe you should reinstall the notebook with the Toshiba recovery disk or you have a virus or something else on your computer. Update your antivirus program and let it scan for viruses.

  • Slow response to keyboard input. Mountain Lion.

My iMac has a slow response to keyboard input. Please advise.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for response problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Equium M40x-189 - What drivers/utilities I need to install?

    Dear All,
    Equium m40x-189
Reloaded Windows XP, but havent found the Toshiba Utilities and drivers disk that must have come with the lappy, not a lot works and in Device Manager there are a load of devices with yellow alerts.
The internal wireless is not seeable, nor is a wireless card slotted into the PCMI expansion slot on the side.
These are just the first things I noticed were not available. Need wireless to get to the internet to register Windies.
I am not sure which drivers/utilities I need to download and install from the Toshiba download drivers web site.
Is there such a thing as a list or instructions any where that details what drivers/utilities are required to make all the 'bits' work on a newly Windows loaded laptop.?
Any help would be of immense value.
    Best regards
    Mark

    Hi
As you already said on the Toshiba European driver download page you can download all necessary drivers and tools for your notebook.
Furthermore on the website you will find the installation instructions document. Use this list as a recommended driver and software installation order.
I think this is such a list that you mean so check this!!!
Last but not least I think must install every driver and download on the Toshiba page because they are necessary for a properly working notebook.
If you have more questions, please let us know.

  • Equium M40X: System information and devices issue.

I have just purchased a Equium M40X and done a complete new install with Windows XP Pro.. I saved the drivers from the original software loaded and all have loaded sucessfully apart from a PCI driver. I went to Sys information and problem devices and this is what it came up with..PCI\VEN_104C&DEV_8034&SUBSYS_FF031179&REV_00\4&AD1 B67F&0&24F0 Can anyone enlighten me as to what this could be as it is driving me nuts.
    many thanks

Hi, according to http://www.pcidatabase.com/vendor_details.php?id=308 PCI Vendor 104C belongs to Texas Instruments. Although DEV 8034 isn't listed I am certain this is the firewire port (OHCI-Lynx IEEE 1394 Controller) since it is in the rage of 0x8000. As for fixing your problem I have no idea you could try deleting the PCI entry and let XP re-detect hardware again. If that doesn't work maybe a driver update from TI perhaps??

  • Equium M40x-189: Question about the HDD and graphic card upgrade

Hi folks just a few quick questions.
    1. can a second hard drive be fitted to the afore mentioned notebook?.....it came with a 60gb HDD
2.can a graphics card such as an ati or geforce mobile/go be fitted instead of the onboard graphics?
any answers would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
As was said before, there is no way to install a 2nd harddrive physically on the machine without it being external. And this model does not have a seperate video card, it is integrated on the motherboard. Which means it would not be possible to upgrade it. Unfortunate as it is, best you can do is increase shared memory in bios and under your virtual memory settings. The Qosmio series from Toshiba does include a 2nd hard drive bay for 2 hdd's though, as well as some have seperate video cards so you can even possibly upgrade those as well. But not the Equium M40x. Have a great day.
