No response from Oracle while RAID rebuilding

Hello,
At system startup the server started to rebuild the RAID ( RAID 10, hardware controller) on which the database is installed.
During this perriod the system responded to ping, shared directory where available but Oracle didn't responded.
Any attempt to connect to Oracle ( sqlplus or application) has generated "ORA-12203: TNS:unable to connect to destination".
After the RAID rebuilding was finished the Oracle become "alive".
Can you please tell me if this is a normal behaviour?
Thank you!

Thank you for your answer. I will chek the file alert.log
Server seems to be OK. I could transfer files from server ( by Remote Desktop or shared directory). I have a degraded speed but it worked. The database didn't respondend not even I tryed to use sqlplus & OEM from the server.

• No response from Server while transferring Images

I am having issues with uploading images in a webgallery onto the server. I have had this problem over a long period and so i do not think that the problem is with the server speed or anything.
When I put my page it publishes any chages to format of the gallery and page but does not publish the images instead it comes up with a broken image link icon.
When publishing the log brings up this message for every image file:
"there was no response from server while transferring file"
Here is a link to the page that i am having issues with:
http://www.nigelhewitt.com.au/_links/MainMenuLinks/Menu-studio.htm
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure that the linking to the images is correct.... and that the images are in the this folder:
_links/MainMenuLinks/p7hg_img_3/thumbs
Here is a link to an image that doesn't show up (broken image link):
http://www.nigelhewitt.com.au/_links/MainMenuLinks/p7hg_img_3/thumbs/studio_shots_and_shad ows_120509_0148_tmb.jpg
Here is an image that does show:(on another page)...
http://www.nigelhewitt.com.au/_links/ArtworksLinks/p7hg_img_2/thumbs/Bloodline_II__tmb.jpg
Actually on another look at the missing image properties, I see: 0 kB (0 bytes)
I had this happen to me the other day with a clients' site. All files I was uploading turned up at 0kb - on investigation, I found that the server had reached it's capacity and it wouldn't allow the uploading of any further files - I'm not saying this is the case here, just strange that the image file size is 0.

• Working on raid while raid rebuild process ( Raid 5 configration)

I am using xserve raid (4 no.) with Xsan( for FCP-Editing ) and raid for data is configured for *raid 5* and for meta *raid 1*.
In one of my Raid (raid 5 configured) Disk 9 was showing offline and which I have swapped with new disk, after that raid rebuild process got started .
In this situation (while rebuilding ) can I do work ( access volume for Ingest and editing) or is there is any performance issue will come ?.
or we should start working after rebuild process got completed. Plz suggest ?

It's fine to work with the volume while the array is getting rebuilt. Just be aware that performance may be degraded - but it was already degraded when the first disk failed, so it shouldn't be too bad.

• Slow response from Oracle AS 10g on web

Hi all,
We have recently migrated from 6i to 10g successfully.
Now when I run my application locally it gives me very good response . But when I run the same application from a remote place on web it gives me pathetic response .
Can anyone suggest me what are the parameters to tune so that it gives me a better performance.
Regards
Sai.

I suppose you are using Forms type on Application server. Consult the following article on Metalink.
- Subject: How to Find the Oracle Application Server 10g Performance Guide
Doc ID: Note:437109.1
This article gives pointers to the documentation links based on your particular version for application server performance guides.
hope that helps!

• Slow response from oracle db

I am using application developed in Java. Database: oracle 10g & Webserver :Weblogic 9.2 for processing 10L records.
For this I have allocated 4GB ram to oracle & 2 GB to Weblogic. Also set 1000 sessions & 1000 process per users in oracle. Rollback segment is of 4GB.
Application uses multi threading for processing 10L records in Batch Job. During this processing Oracle server become slow. Even if maximum connection/sessions are less then 800, oracle does not allow application to create new connection because of this entire processing fails

As you are using the Oracle 10g and Webserver: Weblogic 9.2 on a single machine and the you have alloted only 4GB RAM to Oracle and 2 GB RAM to Weblogic. I strongly beleive that you should assign a minimum of 9GB RAM to Oracle and 5 GB RAM to Weblogic Server 9.2 edition in order to process 1000 Sessions and 1000 Process per users in Oracle. I one more thing I can say confidently that Oracle 10g and Weblogic should be managed on different dumps i mean to say on different machines. As they both use lot of Memory to run 1000 sessions and 1000 process per user you may require at 8GB RAM for running Oracle 10g and 3 GB to RAM to run Weblogic 9.2 server. And I believe that you may have to purchase lots of hardware stuff such as 3 processors (which run with 4 core technology). Please try with this configuration and let me know.

• No response from server error when transferring files

Hi, I just changed my website over from a windows based server to a linux one. I wasn't having any problems and now I can't get my files to load onto the server. I contacted the server provider who has tested things on their end and say the problem is with dreamweaver. This is the message I have been getting...
no response from server while transferring file.... reconnecting.
It says that it is putting the file, and then I receive this message again..
no response from server while transferring. 2 attempts made. try again or cancel?
if I hit cancel, then it starts putting the file and sometimes it goes through, sometimes not.
Now if I manage to get the file through, when I post it on the web and click on the link it says the file is damaged or corrupted.
Anyone have any idea how to correct this? I am new to dreamweaver and web design and I thought maybe the problem has to do with my site definition, but I can't see that there is a problem. I have noticed that before I changed the site definition for the linux server I could easily preview my pages in the browser without having to post it to the site. Now when I try to preview my pages it says that I have to put it to the site in order to view it. Could that be related?
I am working on a Mac and haven't installed a firewall.
Any help is much appreciated!!!
Thank you!

In the Site Settings (Advanced Mode) there is an option where you set up the remote connection for Passive FTP. Try checking that box and see if you are able to connect.

• Time Out Error while waiting for response from DB Procedure

Hi Gurus,
We are encountering a problem in our production environment. The system is implemented using AIA foundation pack 2.5 on SOA suite 10.1.3.4.
We have a BPEL process A which calls an ESB Service which inturn calls BPEL Process B. In process B, we have a DB procedure call which waits for a response from
a DB procedure. The procedure doesn't reply on time and Process B remains in waiting state to get the response from DB Procedure wherein Process A errors out by showing as "Timed Out Error".
This issue is intermittent and we have already increased transaction-time outs in transaction-manager.xml to 7200 and ejb-orion-jar.xml to 3600.
When we encountered this problem, we found out that there are too many connections open and when we bounced the server, everything was restored to nornal but as it is a production env. we can't do it over and over again.
We have 2 nodes each having max connections as 100 and min. as 0.
Is there a limit to max no. of connections or can we do something in DB side to ensure that it doesn't happen again ?
Please suggest.
Thanks,
Vikas Manchanda

Hi Anuj,
I don't think it is a problem with connection reaching to max numbers because this issue is coming on very intermittent basis.we don't have any other processes using
the same connection pool and this issue is coming even when there is no load on the server. This is recent trace from the production environment. Also i don't have any thing called "abandoned-connection-pool" in my data-sources.xml.

• No Response From Application Server - Oracle 10g

I am Using Oracle 10g Application server.
When running a transaction (query to the DB) sometimes it takes more than the "x" session.timeout minutes seted.
Then 'No Response From Application Server ' error message comes out.
I don`t want to increase the session.timeout minutes because i do want it to work in other issues. The thing is that i don`t want the session to be terminated when waiting for the response from the DB.
How can i overcome this?
Thanks

Thanks for answering...
Sorry, i`m new in this. I`m using j2EE technology.
The thing is that i was trying to do a page that prints a loading... while waiting for the response from the DB, but when it comes the resultset, and i redirect to another servlet to print the results, an illegalStateException came out (the response has already made the commit).
So i was thinking maybe there was a solution for the application to know that the query is being made in the DB(and that the app/session isn`t stopped).
Maybe with another driver? now i`m trying the ojdbc14.jar.
Or maybe in J2EE I can do a page that self reloads every "x" minutes while waiting for the response from the DB as you said and when it comes prints it ?
Thanks a lot
Andres

• Error while invoking a WS-Security secured web service from Oracle BPEL..

Hi ,
We are facing some error while invoking a WS-Security secured web service from our BPEL Process on the windows platform(SOA 10.1.3.3.0).
For the BPEL process we are following the same steps as given in an AMIS blog : - [http://technology.amis.nl/blog/1607/how-to-call-a-ws-security-secured-web-service-from-oracle-bpel]
but sttill, after deploying it and passing values in it,we are getting the following error on the console :-
“Header [http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2004/08/addressing:Action] for ultimate recipient is required but not present in the message”
Any pointers in this regard will be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Saurabh

Hi James,
Thanks for the quick reply.
We've tried to call that web service from an HTML designed in Visual Studios with the same username and password and its working fine.
But on the BPEL console, we are getting the error as mentioned.
Also if you can tell me how to set the user name and password in the header of the parter link.I could not find how to do it.
Thanks,
