No restore previous session option available and can't find sessionstore.js in latest firefox version.

After a crash, I turned on my firefox to find the restore previous session option greyed out. So I go to my profile folder to find no sessionstore.js file, I assumed this is because the lastest firefox made changes to where the session store is stored now. Where is the session stored now and is there anyway I can restore my previous session? I really need it.

Firefox still uses the sessionstore.js file in the profile folder.
Only the sessionstore.bak file in no longer used and has been replaced by backups and previous versions in the sessionstore-backups folder.
You can check <b>browser.sessionstore.*</b> prefs including browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash on the <b>about:config</b> page and reset browser.sessionstore prefs that are user set (bold) via the right-click context menu to the default value to make sure that Session Restore is enabled and working properly.

    Hello,
    You could read this-

But if you really want to go to Firefox 3.6,

  • Does the restore previous session call get destroyed too with the new forget button in firefox

I have checked under startup to restore previous session ... Can it still if I use the new forget button since it states all tabs are closed ... so that would be last session to my thinking Rick Carter

I think there is a serious risk that your session history will be cleared, too. However, I haven't tested it yet. If you want to preserve a copy of your session history files while you experiment, you can back them up as follows:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a list of your settings files.
Look for a folder named '''sessionstore-backups''' and copy it in its entirely to a safe location such as your Documents folder.
You also should find a file named sessionstore.js which contains your current session windows and tabs. You could back that one up, too, but the recovery.js file in the sessionstore-backups folder should be identical or virtually identical (it may lag a little, but should be updated to be the same fairly quickly).

  • Is it possible to NOT have 'Restore Previous Session' option come up automatically every time you start Firefox?

A large envelope pops up mid-screen every time I start Firefox, asking if I want to restore previous session. I don't want all users after me to have this option, but don't want to keep an empty history either. Can I deselect this option somewhere? Looked around, but found nothing.

Unfortunately changing the options found under "Completely disable session restore" does not make any difference to this problem.

  • Where can I find a download for Mozilla Firefox version 19?

I am currently using firefox 20.0 and I need to down grade to 19.0 for a program to run efficiently on my computer. Where can I find a secure download for this version. I am on a mac so I will be needing verion 19.0 for firefox on a MAC version 10.6.8.

    Hi betsi.vesser, regarding:
<blockquote>When you go to the Mac folder, it gives you a large variety of folders that have 2 or 3 letter names, none of which make any sense to a novice user. </blockquote>
I thought you meant on your computer, but I realized you mean on the FTP server. Those are language codes. For English, look for the choices that start with "en" and have your preferred country code.

I tried to update Iphone 3gs to ios 5 with Itunes. first try,It did sync, posted my name under devices(iphone). Tried to restore, keep recieving error message 14. I ran the diagnostic and it kept saying under Port, it does'nt not find Iphone. Tried EVERYTHING! From uninstalling, youtube, google, DFU and downloading some of the so called help links and files. It also keep saying my phone is in restored mode and on the phone it shows a usb plug pointing to itunes and a cd. Trying to fix problem from home and not be charge a fee just to talk to Apple representative. Please help !!!

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error3194
Apple does not support downgrading, so that is probably why you are getting error 3194. As you have to hack the phone to downgrade all bets are off now. As some of the help links and files direct you to jailbreak your phone if you followed any of those you now have bigger problems.

  • Where on your site can I find out the history of Firefox versions, when they became available for upgrade/upload?

A custom application within our company used to work using Firefox however in July we were alerted that the application was not working properly when combined with Firefox. Hi Steve,
    Depends which OS
    version.
    If OSX try this instead...
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Change Password from the Installer menu up at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Change Password.*
If worse comes to worse try this...
Reset OS X Password Without an OS X CD...
    http://theappleblog.com/2008/06/22/reset-os-x-password-without-an-os-x-cd/
    Admin Hack...
    http://www.hackmac.org/?q=node/4
Starts up like the first time you buy a new Mac, but after filling in all that info again, you should have access to the computer and the other Users & files will still be there... give the new User a different name than an existing one.

  • How can I restore previous session while fixing Bookmarks and History will not be functional...error?

I was working with two windows and 8-10 tabs in each window when my Firefox became unresponsive, and I received a string of JavaScript error prompts when I attempted any activity in the browser (such as scrolling). After about an hour of being unable to interact with Firefox at all, I Force Quit (on a Mac) the application.
When I opened Firefox again, it was taking a very long time to boot, and the process was locking up my computer, but eventually, I did receive a Restore Previous Session option. I tried restoring, but one tab in each window would stick and fail to load, causing the browser to freeze up yet again (one of the tabs was a Google search result page, which is completely benign). I had to Force Quit *again* and then a couple more times as I kept encountering the same issue.
Finally, I decided to restart my computer. I ran into the same problem. Then, I restarted again. Once more, the same problem. I actually tried restoring my session maybe 20 times before I ended up with the error: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-bookmarks-and-history-will-not-be-functional?esab=a&as=aaq
I've followed step 1, which didn't work. I haven't proceeded to step 2, because I know I will definitely lose my previous session along with all recent history. I *need* to bookmark at least two of the tabs as they are of critical importance--one of which is a special URL that I cannot recover by any means.
Before I continue to step 2, is there any way that I can grab the URLs that were in my previous session and stash them somewhere to manually restore after fixing the error?
By the way, the crashing started when I tried to visit mail.google.com--typing that address in a new tab started the JavaScript errors when things had been running smoothly. I actually closed out several tabs when attempting to reopen my session, just trying to get things up and running again (and Save All Tabs) before I ran into the database error. I never got the opportunity to save my tabs.
I'm running Mac OS X Lion. Help?

Follow-up: I'm worried about performing any actions without input, because I don't want to back myself into a corner.
Will resetting Firefox fix the problem (instead of creating a new places database)? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems
According to this article, a reset will keep browsing history, which should allow me to access my lost tabs IF it will also fix my database problem.

  • Is there a way to restore to a prior point in time? I somehow lost all Tab Groups and Tabs...and Restore Previous Session is grey, so that's not an option.

I've gone through all support pages, and still can't find a solution. I'm needing to restore to a specific day/time period. I lost literally hundreds of hours of research...and MUST find a way to get those Tab Groups and Tabs restored.
Again, for some reason, the Restore Previous Session option is greyed out...and not an option.
From what I've read, there may be some files in the Firefox profile folder that can be used, but it's not clear the steps to take to see if this would do what I need, and before I mess with those files, etc... I'd really need someone from tech support to review all this and assist me.

You can try to restore a previous version of the sessionstore.js file.

  • After updating adobe flash and restarting firefox for mac, as requested, can't restore previous session

using macbook pro with os 10.7.5, was recommended to update adobe flash while in firefox (22.0). did so, which required closing and restarting firefox during flash update. when complete, firefox opened automatically to adobe flash window and restore previous session was grayed out. can't figure out how to find and restore the tabs i had been using. related questions and answers don't find a solution. my settings are all normal and do not appear to have any relation to the problem. rather, it seems to be the closing and reopening of firefox associated with the updating of flash that nuked any memory of my previous session. is there a solution?

i found my own solution to my problem! first of all, DON'T QUIT FIREFOX -- to be sure the current undesirable session doesn't become the "previous session". instead, open a new window (command-N). in my case, it opened to my usual default url and, while in that window (either before or after closing the first browser window that had opened automatically after updating adobe flash), the "restore previous session" option in history menu reappeared! clicked on it and, from then on, things just worked normally.

  • Can't restore previous session (greyed out); lost all tabs and groups

I've had a similar problem with FireFox version 30 as found in the following question: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/997956?esab=a&as=aaq
I lost all my tabs including those in two groups (maybe 100 tabs) that I'd been keeping for a couple of years and in some cases much longer. Very occasionally I'll get the "oops this is embarrassing" message from FF and when I click on the Restore Previous Session button they reappear.
What happened this time is that when booting my computer (Windows 7), Adobe Flash wanted to download an update, and instead of waiting for the boot to finish as I normally would, I clicked on the Adobe Flash Download Update button. It then opened FF and hung, so I eventually used Task Manager to end FF. After the computer finished booting, when I opened FF it had no open tabs or groups, and the Restore Previous Session option (and each of the other options in that grouping in the History menu) was greyed.
When investigating, I find I do have the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files from yesterday (each about 4.5 mb), but I don't know how to access them because the Restore Previous Session option is greyed.

Awesome. And maybe back up your sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files somewhere outside of your Firefox settings folder in case you need them for a future recovery. (That would involve copying them back to your active profile folder while Firefox is closed so it finds them when it starts back up again.)

  • How do I disable the History | Restore Previous Sesssion option. It is a privacy issue.

Hi I have upgraded to firefox 4.
It seems that no matter how I shut down firefox or what security settings I use the options History | Restore Previous Session is always enabled when I restart firefox.
This is the same big button that appears on the default firefox browser home page.
Even if I shut down with only one tab open it still has the option available and that goes back to the single tab.
Clearing history before shutting down firefox does not help.
I found the web page where someone had actually requested this functionality but niether of the pricay settings he suggested to tweak this feature did anything when adjusted.
    These were:
    browser.sessionstore.privacy_level
    browser.sessionstore.privacy_level_deferred
    in about:config
How do I get rid of this menu item/'feature' ?
I tried turning on browser.showQuitWarning in about:config as suggested on another site and that givs me the 'do you want to save your session tabs' dialog when I shut firefox like it used to in firefox 3.x. So I was semi happy with this. However this did not stop the Restore previous Session being available even if I selected quit (no dont save tabs option) on the dialog.
I do not want to be able to restore the previous session unless:
    a) firefox crashed
    or
    b) I expressly told it to save my session on shutdown.
I also have the tools | options | general | when firefox starts set to 'show my home page'. So I dont think thats related.
    Cheers.
    Anyhelp appreciated.

    To Response: cor_el
Thanks. Following that link I worked out how to clear the history automatically on shutdown.
Having firefox auto clear my history ensures the 'Restore Presvious Session' is not available next time firefox starts.
However, if I then want to force it to save my session on shut down I cant. I can get the 'Do you want to save your session' dialog, as in firefox 3.6x, by having about:config browser.showQuitWarning set to true. After restarting firfox however my tabs are not restored.
