I added the host-name "aquin" with correct IP to etc/hosts.
Has anybody got an idea?

Hi
I had a similar problem but I had a local WAS that connected to a SAP systems over the VPN.The WAS wasnt able to connect to the backend SAP system. The problem was that the message server came back with the IP address of the Application host but that IP was local to the network , over the VPN the Application host has a different IP address (assigned by the VPN)).
Is there a port restriction over the VPN , try Erics method that should suggest if access is available.
Regards
Pran

External services moved, but SOA suite still gives "no route to host"
We have a SOA Suite integrating towards external services. The external service provider moved the services to a different server, and updated dns entries to reflect this move. But our SOA Suite gave "no route to host" errors when this move was performed, clearly not reloading the changes done in DNS, but still using the old address.
How and where can the SOA Suite be configured to actually time out domain name resolutions, when external services are moved this way. Can we ask it to use hostname instead of ip address.
Bouncing the servers is of course working, but there must be a configuraiton way around this.
bouncing production servers is the final resort.

No route to host:connect -- error in the struts-config.xml file
hi all,
acutally am doing a struts application in that i have written everything properly
but getting this kinda no route to host:connect error
my struts-config.xml file is like this...
<struts-config>
<form-beans>
<form-bean name="myForm" type="MyForm">
</form-beans>
<action-mappings>
<action path="/action"
name="myForm"
type="MyAction"
scope="request"
validate="true" >
<forward name="success" path="/success.jsp" />
<forward name="failure" path="/failure.jsp" />
</action>
</action-mappings>
</struts-config>
sikandarHi Lee,
I am working on Oracle ADF 10.1.2 and getting the same problem. The lines in my struts-config.xml are as below:
<action path="/unitsView" className="oracle.adf.controller.struts.actions.DataActionMapping" type="view.UnitsViewAction" name="DataForm" parameter="/unitsView.uix" unknown="false">
<set-property property="modelReference" value="unitsViewUIModel"/>
<forward name="unitsEditLink" path="/unitsEdit.do"/>
</action>
<action path="/unitsView" className="oracle.adf.controller.struts.actions.DataActionMapping" type="view.UnitsViewAction" name="DataForm" parameter="/unitsView.uix" unknown="false">
<set-property property="modelReference" value="unitsViewUIModel"/>
<forward name="unitsCreateLink" path="/unitsCreate.do"/>
</action>
I have two lines with [action path="/unitsView"]. The reason why is that I want the user to go to the form create screen for the create button and form edit screen for the edit button. If this does not work, it seems to mean that only a single screen can be used for create/edit functions. However, the ADF editor diagram looks perfectly to point to create.uix and edit.uix respectively.
Please shed some light.
Thanks,
Regards,

FTP receiver channel error: No route to host
Hello,
I am using a ftp receiver channel and got the following error:
java.lang.Exception: ftp access error: java.net.NoRouteToHostException: No route to host.
The following steps are processed right:
- Connection to FTP-Server "XXXX", Folder "/public_html/external/eh/"
- Write to FTP-Server "XXXX", Folder "/public_html/external/eh/", file "xyz.xml"
- Sending: Modus "TXT", Size XXX, Codepage UTF-8
And then the error occurs.
It seems that the channel could connect to the server and start sending the data, but then the error occurs.
Did anybody know this problem?
Thank you very much
ThomasHi Thomas -
Is your FTP server configured for active or passive data connections? If active, you need SP15. Before SP15, only passive data connections are supported.

NAT error: UDP OK but TCP = no route to host
I recently did a firmware update on my Airport Express and I think something has changed which is affecting file transfer speed. A NAT test shows UDP listen port 6881 is OK but when testing TCP listen port 6881 I get the following message:
NAT error: No route to host (173.19.148.196:6881)
I have Mediacom Cable and their provided modem is Touchstone Telephony Modem and my Airport Express is plugged into it to provide me a wireless connection (it has an IP address of 10.0.1.1).
I have a MacBook 4,1 Intel Core 2 Duo and run OS X v. 10.5.6. In Security settings my Firewall is OFF.
Can someone explain to me what I need to do to open the TCP port? Also, what is a UDP connection?
Thank youi had the same problem.
and i did the following steps
on vuze program
1) vuze -> preferences -> incoming tcp listen port (example 50123)
2) set the same port on UDP
after that you have to open tcp protocol (NAT -> virtual server) ... on your router and set start port as the same port as you already set in vuze (ex. 50123)... and an end port (ex. 50124)
be careful as local ip address, you have to set the same ip in the tcp protocol settings with the ip that your macbook uses to connect to the internet. you can find the ip on system preferences --> web--> and get the information.
I hope to help you and others with the same problem! -

Remote RSS Feed consumption - no route to host
Hi all, I tried to embed an external RSS feed but always get the error that Service SS_GET_PAGE and Function getRssFeedForUrl cannot be performed due to System Error : No route to host. I guess that the server needs a proxy setting in order to connect to the external proxy. I cannot figure out how to configure the content server to retrieve those external URLs. Is there a specific config file to set the proxy value or do I have to set the proper environment variable on Linux (that was my first guess but I did not succeed). Thanks for any hint.
That could mean one of two things: either the default route is not set on the host giving this error message or IP packets destined to the target host can not be routed due to network misconfiguration.

Telnet can't figure out route to host, but only on certain ports?
This only occurs under 10.5. In 10.4.11, I can hit the server on both ports through telnet.
telnet <server> 510
Trying <server>...
telnet: connect to address <server>: Connection refused
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host
telnet <server> 80
Trying <server>...
Connected to <server>.

Connection closed by foreign host.
Here's the strangest part:
ping <server>
PING <server> (ip): 56 data bytes
ping: sendto: No route to host
^C
--- <server> ping statistics ---
1 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
How come it can figure out the route when using port 80, but not when using port 510? And is the inability to figure out the route the reason why Wireshark shows ZERO outgoing packets on port 510 when it fails to connect?
And why only on certain IPs? If I use "edu.yorku.ca", I can connect via telnet on both 80 and 510.orangekay wrote:
So it works if you supply a FQDN but not an IP? Are you certain that the IP you're using is valid? There may be some DNS trickery going on behind the scenes.
No, it only connects when I hit the server on port 80. Using IP or FQDN doesn't seem to make a difference.
If I try to use Network Utils to do a trace route, it too says no route to host.
I've got a G4/ppc running 10.4.11 attached to the same router, and it has no issue hitting the server on any port, and can do a trace route as well. -
Connection issue: No route to host
Hi all,
I have a problem with my BPEL process (vers. 10.1.3.4).
I am trying to call an external web service and I get the following error (I can access the web service just using its URL):
exception on JaxRpc invoke: HTTP transport error: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: java.security.PrivilegedActionException: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: Message send failed: No route to host
I have tried pinging the remote server with success, so I should be able to connect (no proxy issue or something like that).
I have tried looking in the BPEL logs found at:
<oracle home>/opmn/logs
<oracle home>/bpel/system/logs
<oracle home>/bpel/domains/default/logs
This did not give anything useful either.
I deploy using JDeveloper. I have checked the proxy settings here - and there are none set.
Does anybody have any ideas as to what can be wrong?
Any help or hints will be much appreciated.
Regards,
AagaardWell it could also mean that from the server which is running your applicationserver the port 18111 is blocked. So I would check with your network-managers if this port is open from your applicationserver. They should check the firewalls (if you have no control on that yourself).
Often the situation at a customer is that your development pc is at one LAN while your (development, test, acceptance, production) application server is in a datacenter on a different sub-lan. With another fire-wall. From your development PC you need to access internet-http and maybe other protocols. But these are usually forbidden on the datacenter lan. You'll have a separate route from your development lan to the datacenter. Probably the server has 2 NICs: one for the internal network and one connected to the Demilitarized Zone. Within the DMZ probably a proxy/reverseproxy configuration routes the requests from outside to your application server and visa versa. So the proxy should also be checked.
This should normally the case at a customer-site, even when its a development environment. Because you don't want to have intruders hacking into your systems, even on development. And although you might not care, the dev-env should reflect your prod-env. So it should also use a dmz with a proxy/reverseproxy setup. If it is a setup on your laptop or your home lan your setup might be simpeler. But then again you might have to cope with different firewalls. If it is all on your laptop (using VMWare for example) I would try when temporarly shutdown all Firewalls.
You told that you did not have a proxy. Does that count for both your dev-pc as well as the application server? -
Hi,
I needed to add vlans on the bladecenter, So added to ports on the bladecenter and then to the main trunk port of BC as well as i created the vlan on BC.
This BC connects to two main NEXUS 7010 core switch, I added to trunk port of these switches as well and vlan was already created in the nexus core switch.
but i was unable to ping the subnet gateway from the nexus core switch and gets the error as "no route to host"
Is this something there is no routing define for this subnet. As OSPF is running on the core switch.
Thanks
SagarThanks Alex
VLAN was allowed on the trunk, everything related vlan is fine.
but there was no static route defined on the switch as the routing for the subnet was done on the firewall
so what i thought is to give a static route for network with next hop as firewall interface and guess what it started to work
Thanks

AirPort Extreme 802.11n no route to host
Hi, I have a AirPort Extreme 802.11n router with the latest firmware installed. My setup is such that my laptop is connected to the router via ethernet and my iPhone is connected via wifi, both using the same subnet, router address and dns address. The problem I'm having is that while my laptop is connected via ethernet it can ping and access file sharing services on my iPhone, but when my laptop is connected via wifi the iPhone is not reachable and pings return a "no route to host". I've looked at the traffic via wireshark and the only thing I see when trying to do direct wifi to wifi communications is that the arp request for the identity of the iPhone's IP is never answered. Is this a limitation of the airport extreme base station or is there a setting somewhere I need to change in order for wifi to wifi communication to work? Also note that the same problem was experienced with another laptop also running Leopard and connected to the network via wifi (both running 10.5.5) so this is not a local problem with my laptop software environment. Thanks!
I'm experiencing a similar problem. The AirPort Extreme will connect to a Windows PC but not my Mac Book Pro (unless I have a wired connection).

Client on different Machine - No route to host
Hi,
I'm pretty much frustrated right now. I try to get the following running for more than days now, hopefully someone can help me, since it seems to be a quite simple problem:
I have a Client/Server RMI Application, to make my first steps with RMI.
First I defined the Interface Server.java:
import java.rmi.*;
public interface Server extends Remote
int getValue() throws RemoteException;
then I implented the Server (ServerImpl.java):
import java.util.*;
import java.rmi.server.*;
import java.rmi.RemoteException;
public class ServerImpl extends UnicastRemoteObject implements Server
private int value;
public ServerImpl() throws RemoteException
this.value = 3;
public int getValue() throws RemoteException
return this.value;
and a process which uses it (ServerProc.java):
import java.rmi.*;
import java.rmi.registry.*;
import java.rmi.server.UnicastRemoteObject;
class ServerProc
public static void main (String args [])
if(System.getSecurityManager() == null)
System.setSecurityManager(new RMISecurityManager());
try {
ServerImpl obj = new ServerImpl();
Naming.rebind("rmi://localhost/Server",obj);
}catch (Exception e){
System.out.println(e);
My Client is as follows (Client.java):
import java.rmi.*;
class Client
public static void main(String args [])
Server server;
try {
server = (Server)Naming.lookup("rmi://192.168.0.1/Server");
System.out.println(server.getValue());
}catch(Exception e){
System.out.println(e);
The Server is on the machine with IP 192.168.0.1 and the Client on the Machine 192.168.0.15. (both XP SP2)
I compiled the sercer code with "javac ServerProc.java" und afterwards did "rmic ServerImpl"
then I run the rmiregistry with "start rmiregistry" und the server with "java -Djava.security.policy=java.policy ServerProc"
The policy file is the following:
grant{
permission java.security.AllPermission;
Then I compiled the Clientcode on the client to which I first copied the "Server.class" and "ServerImpl_Stub.class" Files and then did "javac Client.java"
And run the Client with "java Client".
THen the following exception appears:
java.rmi.ConnectIOException: Exception creating connection to: 192.168.120.254;
nested exception is:
java.net.NoRouteToHostException: No route to host: connect
I don't know where this IP adress comes from, but when I run the same client on the server machine It works without problems. I have no clue what to do.
Can someone help me please. That would be great.
Thanks in advance
Beni feel your pain same happen to me all i can advise
is to lose the " System.setSecurityManager(new
RMISecurityManager());
if you don't call it it will revert to the default
one.No it doesn't, it reverts to no security manager, and absence of stubs wouldn't cause NoRouteToHost either.
Your problem seem to be either a DNS problem where the server host doesn't know its own IP address or else it has > 1 NIC and an inconvenient choice is being made between them. In case 1, fix the DNS; in case 2, set -Djava.rmi.server.hostname to the desired IP address in the server JVM. -

Using netstat and lsof I found that XE not only binds to 1521 and 8080, but also to port 33172 and since iptables blocks everything it got "No route to host".
The question is if 33172 is static or just a randomly chosen port number.
