No rSAP = goodbye Apple

Well, with the arrival of my next car in a few months time, it's going to be goodbye Apple.
More and more car manufacturers are implementing enhanced mobile connectivity options in their models, for things like text messaging or Internet access and WiFi hotspots, but these systems require the rSAP protocol to connect to the phone, simple Bluetooth handsfree functionality isn't good enough.
Apple seem totally alone in their refusal to acknowledge or support this, presumably because it's a Nokia invention which their too proud to use on their devices.
This just isn't acceptable any more.  How many people are going to specify these enhanced phone connectivity options on their new cars and then find their "premium" Apple iPhone doesn't support it?
Apparently Audi sales people have been specifically told by Audi UK to ask customers what phone they have and to inform them that the iPhone won't work with the new high-end connectivity systems.
So, when my new car arrives I'll have the option of doing without the enhanced functionality or doing without my iPhone.  Much as I love the phone, if Apple can't be bothered to support this protocol then I'll be ditching it for someone who can.

Just expressing my total frustration with Apple over this issue.
And it's not just Audi - most of the "premium" marques are starting to offer the same connectivity options, all using the rSAP protocol.  They'll soon filter down to more "mainstream" car marques too.
We'll soon end up with most car manufacturers offering these systems, which will be supported by Android, Blackberry, Windows Mobile etc - basically everyone except Apple.

  • Goodbye Apple, I hardly knew ya!

After a year with my iPod Nano (1st gen) and dealing with Apple's software and firmware updates, I am finished with Apple. Done. Goodbye. Forever. I am about as likely to buy a Ford at this point as I am to buy another Apple product.
Yes, the UI is nice, but if the software doesn't work, a pretty JPG is just as functional.
Yes, everyone else has an iPod. For now. Until they all continue to use iTunes 7 and associated iPod updates (ie, 1.3).
The good news is that this month's issue of Wired magazine had some reviews on some nice new MP3 players. Ones that don't require iTunes 7. Check them out!
Anyway, it was nice dabbling in the Apple world, but the experiment has come to a sad end.
    Good bye sweet sweet Apple.

You must have been unlucky. I think it is more your computer, not the ipod.
I have had no problems with the firmware or itunes. itunes 7 is brilliant program and works perfectly on my PC. I have seen nothing but improvements in the ipod firmware. If you have a crappy pc, you can hardly blame it on apple.

  • WHY FCS WILL NOT WORK WITH CANON XH A1, NOW, EVER, ANYTIME? HELLOOO APPLE?

Well well. Trillions of dollars in Apple technology and canon ingenuity and yet these two behemoths of electronics and computer commercialism cannot create a simple easy to sue interface for a freaking Canon XH A1 camera. I have read forums, googled "compatibility issues", talked to friends, emailed people, and yet no one has stepped up with any assistance in this matter. What really hacks me off is that after spending thousands of dollars on Apple products, and numerous combinations of Final Cut Express, Pro, Studio, I have spent the better part of two weeks doing fresh installs, plugging fire wire cables in each and every port, trying numerous Canon cameras, and still, here at 633 am after all of this, my wonderfully complex Final Cut Studio now tells me that although it "knows" a camera is connected via fire wire, it does not recognize and will not initialize my camera. Furthermore, earlier this week when it DID recognize my camera, the video imported was forced to create clips which stopped a meaningless in and out points. In addition, the audio drifted from one second, to 1.5 seconds, and so on and so forth. Ladies, gentlemen, scribes, aficionados, and causal observers here this: I am officially fed up with having to work harder at getting my project ready to edit, than I ever did actually editing the project. This is sad, sick, silly and stupid. I don't know what's next blokes. Vegas Pro? Avid? I am just worn out by the numerous fixes, upgrades, work around, plug ins filters and tech experts who still can't tell me why Final Cut Studio will not simply let me import my freaking video. I'm done with this silliness. Goodbye Apple! Goodbye Final Cut! I have better things to do with my life than researching subjects that have more contradictions than a rubics cube. i am going to get some sleep, spend time with my wife, and get some fresh air. I hope my apple implodes, and I'll use the FCP disks for coasters when I am sipping my cold brew. ARGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!

i jsut came across your posting. I have never replied to a posting before but i am in your case. I use the saem camera you do and had the same problems you are facing with your setup. I spent days and hours trying to figure out my problems. Finaly i read that you could reset the camera. And I did and it worked. Open the view finder on top of the camera and you will see the tiny reset hole. Stick a pin in there for around 15 seconds and that should reset it back to the factory settings. I think you have played with too many settings on the camera and it is jumbled this is waht happend to me. then go into final cut, but do not attatch your camera yet and click on the EASY set up tab and set your importing to match what ever you shot your video at. You cannot 60i video on a 30f setting they have to be the same.
    Alex
    P.S.
Please look at your manual for reseting your camera, I am just going off memory and it has been two years when I reset mine. Here is some of the video I have shot with my Canon(W/Final Cut) Click onh the HD button if you have a fast connection.

  • Can no longer access the iTunes store.

As of a few days ago I can no longer access the iTunes Store.  Keep getting the page that urges me to upgrade.
I cannot not upgrade to the current version on my G5 Power PC.  Cannot access by using Search either.  I am running
iTunes 7.5 because all newer versions required an upgrade of Quicktime which screwed up the performance of Final Cut Studio,
which I can also not upgrade because I don't own an Intel Mac.  I am so tired of Apple not supporting their loyal customers
who own older Macs, especially in these hard economic times.  Was considering the purchase of an iPhone, but not anymore.
If anyone knows of a work around to the iTunes problem I would appreciate an answer.  It not, then Goodbye Apple it was nice
    knowing you.

This is what I had to do to access iTunes store with 10.4.11 (took all day for the downloads)
    1. download & install iTunes 9.2.1 (101 MB)
    2. download & install Quicktime 7.5.5 (61 MB)
    3. message 'need to install Safari 4.0.3 or later' (and I never use Safari)
    4. download Safari (26 MB)
    5. Safari won't install without 'latest security update'
    6. download latest security update 2009-005 (Intel) v. 1.0 (172 MB)
    7. take a long walk
    8. install security update and restart
    9. install Safari and restart
And yes, now I can download music again from the iTunes store.  I would have given up and gone with Amazon.com but mp3 downloads are only available to folk in USA, and I'm in Australia.

  • After upgrade to iTunes 11.1.4 - no longer see/sync with iPhone 4

recently upgrade iTunes to 11.1.4 - but can no longer sync iPhone 4.  Use Windows 8.   The phone is still viewable on MS files - and can access iPhone directories (ie photos).   Other Apple devises (iPod) have not been affected -- they appear and sync fine

Hi Lyssa! Many thanks for your answer!
I had my suspicions about something like that. Apparently Apple wants to have FULL CONTROL of its users lives. I have been using Apple products since the late 80’s and I, so far, still do.
I find it a bit funny but mostly stupid that Apple has removed the syncing function between iPhone and Mac. So, even if you are a ’loyal’ Apple user, you now have to publish your whole life on iCloud if you want to copy your calendar and contacts to your OWN iPhone from your computer/vice versa, because that is what this is all about. Otherwise, you can’t sync between the iPhone and your computer, even if you are loyal to Apple, using both their laptop and their phone.
I do not want to do that and therefore I now have decided to leave the Apple platform for good. So, next time I choose a computer, a phone etc, it will not be an Apple product. Goodbye Apple!
Many thanks again, Lyssa. Have a nice day!

  • Ios 8.0.2 list of issues on my iphone 5s

    I Have the following problems:
    1. Random capitalizations as you can see above.
    2. Shortcuts in Safari causes a crash. I have "em" and "emm" as 2 different shortcuts. But just by typing that, safari crashes.
    3. All of my apps crash. Even settings and appstore
    4. Random wifi disconnections. About every 30s.
    5. Many times it cannot open a link because "there is no connection"
    6. It ideals on a request: meaning that I click on a link and it stays there loading forever. I have to close the app and reopen it.
i have all iphones since 3. I was a huge Fan. But this was the end for me.
I Just went and bought 2 nice androids for my gf and myself.
    GOodbye apple.
    OH. 2 more random capitalizations.

    Thanks for sharing.
    Enjoy your Androids.

  • Search tasks reminders with Iphone/Ipad iOS7 not working

Help...  Using search bar above new task interface is not working.  When you key in a subject to search, the tasks start showing below but if try to click on one of the tasks being displayed you cannot find it i.e. does not open and you still have to scroll through all tasks (in my case 600+).
    What nonsense.
Upgrades are supposed to make things better...iOS7 has made tasks and other applications worse.  Just glitz and irrelevant changes.

For those heavy Outlook/Task/Exchange users such as myself, it looks like there may be a simple App solution. I just downloaded and started using TaskTask today. At least for day one, it is beautiful. Syncs with Exchange '03 flawlessly. Easy to sort, search, add, delete, etc. I can't believe how efficient it is. This is totally objective. I am strictly a user, no connection to the company. My initial reaction is "what a relief". Goodbye Apple reminders and tasks.

  • Photo Stream gone and useless junk.

Less of a question and more of a statement that I shouldn't have to make.  I have been a loyal iPhone consumer since 2008, late to the party, but I started with the first model. Have had every model besides the 4s and 5c. Apple had two real things going for them, Itunes and the photo stream that backed up to Icloud. I had pictures from 2011 that downloaded to my phone after EVERY ios update. Now, you drop random junk albums (U2) into our cloud and take away the photo stream that we had grown so accustomed to using. It was great the way it was, this is utter BS. I shouldn't have to nearly give myself a heart attack, thinking that the pictures of my daughters birth and videos were eliminated. Yes, I have them on the computer and a flash drive as well, but I am saying a WARNING would have been a decent move. Why "fix" something that isn't broken.
Today, you lost me as a customer. I canceled my 6 plus and went with the LG G3. You choose not to listen to the customer base about personalization and customization and instead opt for what works well for you. Goodbye Apple.

We are iPhone users just like you.
You are not addressing Apple here at all.

  • External display's fonts are awful

Fonts look awful (blurry, hazy and jagged) on my external Dell U2412M monitor ever since I upgraded to Yosemite. Everything was dandy in Mavericks but now it's just awful. Is anyone currently facing similar issues? I have tried mirroring the display, turning off font smoothing, making sure the display is running in resolution that is best for the display - tried all sorts including turning the font smoothing down by changing AppleFontSmoothing value. Nothing helps.
Not only that it seems whatever resolution you choose when the OS boots up for the very first time it defaults to 1440x900 resolution. Is that normal? It's fine Once you login and logout...
    Cheers...

Isn't just incredible. Of late I am questioning the entire apple ecosystem. Their quality assurance aspects have taken a nose dive. Have you tried to preview an image by hitting the space bar? Seen the jittery animation? Noticed how mission control animations struggle on anything other than 1440x900 due non integer based interpolation they need to do for downscaling and upscaling... it's all just shocking... there was a time when people came into OS X because things just worked. It cannot be further from the truth. I run Linux everywhere and would not have bothered with OS X if it wasn't for Lightroom. I am pretty much waiting and hoping that 10.10.1 will address majority of these issues. If it doesn't this MacBook Pro is going straight on eBay! Goodbye Apple forever.... I just cannot imagine that on a top of the range hardware there will be so many issues because of the hideous software it runs! I don't care about 'Continuity'  - just get the basics right...
Could not have said it better myself.
Apple doesn't appear to be focusing on the desktop side as much. There are a lot of issues on the desktop side. But, then again, Apple is going for the lowest common denominator. It's supposed to be easy, and hard to shoot yourself in the foot with.  The downside is Apple has taken away our freedom. Apple has made its computers not work with non-Apple hardware; locking you in the Apple ecosystem.
If you want to tinker you have to go to homebrew or start installing from source, overwriting paths, and going through dependency ****.
The plus side, is, it's still hard to shoot yourself in the foot. I just updated my ubuntu server's XML parsing library, overwriting the standard libxml parser and now I can't update my ubuntu server. Oh well, i won't make that mistake again.
But, at least with Apple I was shielded, I learned a whole lot about the underlying system, and have a system that works the way I want it to. I can still upgrade to the latest release, and, the web cam works as does the wifi. I have a dual booted windows/ubuntu laptop which the webcam works on neither OS, nor does the SD card reader.

  • Trouble playing CD's with repeat playback

    Hello,
This is strange. I'm having trouble playing CD's using repeat playback in iTunes. The CD plays fine the first time through. However, when it plays the second time, there is no sound. iTunes recognizes the songs and tracks through them, but there is no sound. If I double click on a track, the sound returns. I am experiencing this problem on two different Macs (both G5 towers). The issue started when I installed the first version of iTunes 7. Thoughts?

As should be expected, NO ANSWERS!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Goodbye Apple and iTunes!

  • Video does not play on beamer

I bought a video in Itunes and its nearly impossible to get hold of this video:
I cannot download it to my Ipad (1st gen) - I needed to reload it again from Itunes
The video displays on the IMac but via MiniDisplay Port and VGA adapter it's not possible - the message I got is that the device does not support HDPC (some HD protection protocol..). Playing it via Apple TV is possible but then I have no sound...
I called the support center, waited two times in the queue and after 30 minutes (no joke!), I just wanted to tell my story again - the line was deconnected by the apple guy (again no joke!!)
Sorry Apple. If you are not able or willing to add just a simple and very standard HDMI connection you should at least make sure the very expensive workarounds with adapters is working. It is veeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyy frustrating buying an expensive IMac for finding out that it's worse than a PC.. I tried 4h to run a film on a beamer - is this user-friendly??????? In the garage I found then a receiver with an optical connection and it worked... but who else has an optical connection??
I'll never buy a video in Itunes any more. I had already so much trouble with this stupid video - guys I'm not a criminal, I just want to play the video I purchased on the device of my choice. Commercially you are killing yourself!!
    Goodbye Apple....

Close all apps in the multitasking display and reboot your iPad. Then try again.
Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app thumbnail/preview screen to close it. Close every app.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • So glad I wasn't locked into contract.  Phone and Cinema Display go back

I'm so glad I wasn't sure about the phone so I got the prepaid acct. I just cancelled w/ ATT and the phone and a 23" Cinema display and thin keyboard go back tomorrow. In just 6 months they turned me from a Windows/Linux user to a Mac Lover. In one day they turned me back into a Windows/Linux user. They're no better than Microsoft. It's not the money - it's the way it was done. I've spent over 6K this year with Apple - they'll not get another cent of my money.
The only satisfaction I'm going to have is taking back a few grand worth of purchases that are still under return policy. Even if I have to pay the restocking it'll be worth it - even if it's over the 200 I've lost on the phone. Goodbye Apple!

He's not losing any money...he is just making this stuff up. Why would anyone care if he is returning his stuff? Boring!

  • MobileMe, iCloud, Snow Leopard and the Mail app

I have a MacBook Pro with an Intel Core Duo processor and Snow Leopard. I cannot install Lion on the laptop. I have for now, and for the next coming year, no budget for a new Mac. A lot of money has been put, and will be, into the children and their studies. I cannot afford it now to buy a new Mac to have Lion and iCloud all over.
Should I make the transition of my MobileMe account to iCloud, to use it on my iPhone 3GS an iPad [1], then that will have the consequence that I will not be able any more to use the Mail app, and all its functionality, as far as it goes about the iCloud mail. It will not be synchronised. Will it still be available through the Mail app in some way? Or do I have to use the web interface on my Mac, for mail on icloud.com? Imagine that!
My God, first this Lion disappointment. Now this iCloud frustration. What I cannot understand, is why this is not possible for Snow Leopard? Working with the cloud, does that have so much restrictions? Or is it iCloud that makes this impossible? Or is it just plain gore catching money?
For the first time as a long time Apple user I'm looking around now for other solutions. It was goodbye, Steve. We will miss you. But it will become: goodbye, Apple, we will not miss you.

Add me to the very unhappy list
We have a mix of G5 macs, G4 Poerwerbooks, first generation Macbooks and Macbook Pros. The only machines that can be upgraded to Lion would be the Macbook Pros but due to the loss of Rosetta we also can't upgrade those.
Everything works great now with MobileMe but none of them would work if we upgraded to iClould.
This is totally unacceptable. The older machines work just fine doing administration work and would cost tens of thousands of dollars to replace all of them with new machines and even then with the loss of Rosetta wouldn't be unable to run needed software that has never been written for Intel.

  • My wifi button stays grey cant turn it on

    cant turn wifi on

My 4S had the same issue and its quite a headache
Theres no fix to this apart from reset device which wont fix it, or try the blow drier and freezer method which turns the wifi on but only works for a short time
If apple is reading this ive been using apple products for quite a long time, and ios7 is terribley waste of downloading  because from all the issues tbh apple should allow users to downgrade, and get new iphone 4s when wifi is greyed and warranty Is ouf of date, if I get another issue im diffently switching to android say goodbye apple!!!!

  • Columns in Finder windows won't stay where I put them!

WHen I open a finder window, put in LIST VIEW, then re-size my columns - everything is good now I can do stuff. BUT WAIT! I do one thing: dragging one folder and nesting it into another and BAM! The columns re-size back to the default. This is a deal-killer for me. I cannot work like this! If there is no fix, SOrry, but goodbye apple and hello Windows.

Open window is a folder named "Photos".
It contains many sub folders: Backyard photos, front yard photos, vacation photos, etc.
It also contains a ton of image files - that I'm sorting into their respective folders.
When I drag an image file titled "Backyard sunny" into the sub-folder "Backyard photos"... the columns all snap back to their default settings. FORCING ME TO RESIZE THEM.... then I drag another photo into another folder and the same thing happens again. THIS IS A SHUTDOWN OF MY USING MAC OS. I either need to return to Mavericks, or this needs to be fixed somehow. This never happened before, and it won't happen in the future, not on my desktop. I'd hate to start asking my wife to start teaching me windows. I've been a mac person my whole computing life (since the early 1990's) and never have I run into a show-stopper like this.
My computer is NON-FUNCTIONAL if the columns won't stay where I put them!
