No runtime assistant
Hi,
I have installed the 10G2 database and 10G2 OWB on my PC. Everything works all right, but I don't have runtime information. So I read I should create a runtime repository using the runtime assistant. But I don't have a runtime assistant. How do I get it?
Regards,
Gaston.
Hi,
The runtime concept is different in OWB 10g R2. Here you can do with only one repository owner.
The installation procedure is somewhat like this.
Run the Oracle Universal installer. Create a repository owner and user. After finishing the installation, enter design center from Start/Programs/OWB. After entering OWB, from the design center itself you can assign a target schema and then deploy your mappings on the target schema.
Your single repository owner serves both as the design repository owner and runtime respository owner.
Hope this helps

Runtime Assistant Error - Invalid OWBB_API_ADMINISTRATION
I'm tring to install Oracle Warehouse Builder 10.1.0.4.0 on linux-redhat but Runtime Assistant hangs up at 86% when installing Runtime Repository.
Did anyone experienced similar problems?

"Cause:
The cause of the problem is the existence of public synonyms pointing to the java tables.
CREATE$JAVA$LOB$TABLE and/or JAVA$CLASS$MD5$TABLE
The presence of the Public synonyms prevents the Runtime Assistant from creating new tables. This can be verified from sqlplus, connected as the sys user:
SQL> select owner,synonym_name, table_name, table_owner
2 from dba_synonyms
3* where synonym_name like '%JAVA%TABLE';
Solution
To implement the solution, please execute the following steps as a sys user from sql*plus. If required, change the synonym names to match the names returned in the select statement:
. DROP PUBLIC SYNONYM CREATE$JAVA$LOB$TABLE;
2. DROP PUBLIC SYNONYM JAVA$CLASS$MD5$TABLE;
Once complete, start the Runntime Assistant and perform the installation. When the Assistant completes, verify the log file does not contain errors or exceptions."

Issues in installing runtime assistant
Hi,
I am facing ORA-03113 error while installing the runtime assistant. This error seems to be happening at wb_rt_service.sql.
OWB Version:9.2.0.2.8
Repository:9.2.0.2.0
Database:9.2.0.5
OS: RedHat Linux Enterprise Edition 3
HW: HP 2CPU 4GB RAM.
Database & repository are on the same server in two diff instances.
I saw a posting in this forum which says there was a bug with 9204 & rerunning catalog.sql as a remedy. I tried that but it did not work.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance.
SureshSuresh,
We have seen this message before when people had upgraded the database software, but not actually migrated the database to the newer release (indeed, running catalog.sql).
Anyway, can you logon as system, and execute the following command:
select comp_name, version
from dba_registry
Depending on what version of the database you are running... (please let us know) and the patch level this should give you some result. It would be really helpful if you post the result of that query.
Also, have you changed any of the default parameters of the database. Or, have you reduced the database for some reason?
Thanks,

Ora-00922 error in Runtime assistant
OWB : OWB10g,
Oracle : Oracle10g,
OS : Windows XP
I have installed OWB10g on the same machine as Oracle10g but in separate oracle homes. I have successfully run OWB Repository assistant. In Runtime Assistant after giving inputs in all the pages ie after coming to summary page when I press finish it gives ORA-0922 { You must enter a valid user name ).
All the usernames are valid. I tried giving all the usernames and password in upper case, even that doesnt help. I created users for runtime and access user in oracle and in owb chose the option for using existing user but still I get this error.
Any idea, what am I missing ??Hi,
I too am experiencing this error when trying to configure a repository. I enter all the SYS details and for the OWB a/c. There was mention of invalid characters in the password , we use '-' , would this cause a problem.
Also, I am using an Oracle XE database for the repository, is there any limitation on this? Or do I need a full 10g instance?
Many thanks

Let me make sure that I understand the process. Did you run the runtime assistant (as your subject states) or the browser assistant?
If you want to create a runtime environment, then you run the runtime assistant. The browser assistant sets up the environment to expose design information through an HTML based browser component.

Hi friends,
Currently i have OWB 10g R2 installed in windows environment. But inorder to create runtime repository owner and the runtime access user i couldnt find runtime assistant in OWB.
Kindly guide me friends, from where i can create runtime users and owner for my OWB, in which it forms the base for the control center service to work.
Thanks in Advance.

SaroAnyone??
Still couldnt find the Runtime Assistant in my OWB(10.2.0.1).
As per the docs, it is stated that in UNIX environment it is present like below

runtimeinst.sh.
But where it would be in windows

OWB Runtime Assistant Create Repositiry
I have installed OWB ver 9.0. When I get to the runtime assistant and attempt to install a repository the progress window sticks at 1% and never finishes. I have Oracle 8.1.7 DB installed on a Windows 2000 Pro machine.
What might be the problem?John,
Can you be more specific about the version number? 9.0.4 is not certified on 8.1.7. 9.2 (the latest available on OTN) is. 9.0.2 and 9.0.3 were certified on Oracle8i.
Thanks,

Having trouble w/ Runtime Assistant
Hello all,
I am installing OWB components. I executed browserasst.sh without a hitch. I then moved on to reposinst.sh. I am attempting to install the option of a "runtime repository." When it reaches the actual installation progress bar, it stalls at 1% and eventually gives an error telling me to read the log. The log shows the following:

I see it says "timeout occurred while waiting to lock object SYS.DBMS_AQ," but i have no idea what that means. Any ideas of what to do to avoid this problem?
Thanks in advance,
-MarshallHi,
I am making a wild guess here.
Just check if the DBMS_AQ function has got locked by some oracle session. This I think can be checked by querying the database. try to kill that session which has acquired a lock on the object.
I think you can also kill the unix process id which controls this locking session.

Runtime Repository on local database server only
This is a why question, as I have read the installation and configuration guides and don't see this answer. Please forgive me if I've overlooked it.
I am installing OWB in a client/server fashion; the database server resides on a UNIX platform, the client on Windows. I ran the OWB Repository Assistant from my windows desktop, and the repository owner and its objects were created. However, I see in the manual that the OWB Runtime Assistant must run on the same machine where the database resides. I did so, started up the Runtime Assistant on UNIX and created the Runtime Repository into a new user schema, and then a Runtime Access user. All went well.
It looks to me as if both of these wizards create database objects. Why can the Repository Assistant be executed from the desktop environment, but the Runtime Assistant needs to be executed where the database lives, in my case, UNIX. It seems that only database objects are created, it shouldn't matter where the wizard is run from, as long as a database connection can be made.
I feel like I'm missing a piece of the puzzle, can anyone enlighten me. Perhaps a daemon or service is started that I need to know about?Perhaps a daemon or service is started that I need to know about? That's it! There are some java-services running outside the database. That's e.g. the reason why you can't deploy to an OS/390 system, because these services are not migrated for this JVM yet.
Bye
Detlef

Multiple runtime users for the same runtime
Hi,
Is there any GUI method to create multiple runtime users to access the same runtime repository ? Currently, we are running this script:

Is this the correct way of doing it ?
Thanks and regards,
Biswa.Biswa,
No way to do this in UI other than the first time the runtime repository is created by the Runtime Assistant. However, as you correctly point out, granting the following 4 roles to any user is all it takes: WB_RT_X, where RT is the name of your Runtime Repository and X is A, D, R or U:
- The User role (U) gives select access to the public views in the runtime repository.
- The Developer role (D) gives execute access to the PL/SQL packages in the runtime repository required to perform deployment operations.
- The Runtime role (R) gives execute access to the PL/SQL packages in the runtime repository required to perform execution operations.
- The Admin role (A) gives execute access to the PL/SQL packages in the runtime repository required to perform administrative operations.
So you actually have some flexibility as to what exactly you want to allow the user to do.

How to create a runtime repos in 10gR2
Can anyone guide me through creating a runtime repository, access user and target schema(s)?
We have a DESIGN REPOS, but would also like a repos on the target database for deploying to.
I believe that there is no longer a RUNTIME ASSISTANT from release 2 onwards.Quotation from OWB installation and administration guide ("server component" marked with bold by me):
"The Control Center Service is the Warehouse Builder server component that governs the deployment of objects to target schemas. Most commonly, as shown in Figure 1-2, the Control Center Service can be installed on the machines hosting the target schemas."
It seems that writers forget about running of objects (control center is needed for running mappings and process flows). So I highly recommend you to install OWB software on server. BUT you don't need install OWB on ALL your servers, because OWB support remote runtime environment (but I have never used it):

OWB 9.2.0.2.8 Server Side Install Run Time Assistant Components
Hi all,
I have Oracle 9.2. on a Solaris/ Sun server.
I have installed OWB 9.2.0.2.8 on the client desktop running WinXP.
After installing the Design Repository I was installing the Run Time assistant when I had the INS0034 error, requiring that server side components be installed first. So after going back to the installer I used the "Install Server Side option" which actually installed software to my windows Oracle home ??? After that still had the INS0034 error.
My question is. Do I need to use the OWB for Solaris disk and access the Sun server console to install the server side components ? I'm confused as I already have the OWB disk for Windows which is where I would like to install the client.
So not sure where to from here.
Get Solaris version of OWB and install on Sun Server ? Or have I missed an obvious option with the Windows install disk ?
Any help would be appreciated ... Project is stalled at this point.
Regards
NickHi Nick,
We have a similar configuration on my project. You will need to use the OWB for solaris disk if you intend to use OWB to deploy any object or run any mappings. OWB will need to be installed on any Sun server that you will be deploying your warehouse to (not necessarily where the OWB design repository is).
Run the installation from the Sun server console and choose the "Install Sun Server Side option". Once installed, you will also need to run the Runtime Assistant from the server console. Select the option to install the Runtime Repository. This ensure that the Runtime Platform Service is running. Without that you'll have trouble running the Deployment Manager.
Check out sections 2.5 and 2.6 of the Installation and Configuration guide for more details.
Cheers

Runtime Service not Available after Copy
Hi
OWB 10g,
Oracle DB 8.1.7.4.12
I'm trying to copy the whole database, including all OWB and Runtime Repository and reload to another server.
After that, OWB client works fine but when I try to connect Deployment Manager, the error massage shows: Runtime Service not Availabe. ( the Runtime connection properties are changed to match the new server). I then tried to manually start the runtime service, the error massage shows: Not available. And I then run Service_Doctor, it shows "Platform Service Not Available".
For what I searched from metalink and here, the solution is always saying 'Reinstall the Runtime Service'.
Is there any idea that I can make it work without reinstall because I don't want to start from scratch to redeploy and reload all of my data?
I'm waiting on line.
Thank you,
DamingHi Igor,
I manually change table wb_rt_servuce_nodes with the proper hostname, service name, OWB home name. Also check the value in OWBRT_SYS.OWBRTPS, no problem. But Runtime service still not started. So I give up and then try to do it from scratch.
I tried to reinstall all the repositories (OWB and runtime ) on the new server and still got the same problem.
What I've done is drop all the repositories via Runtime Assistant and then done 'drop user rtr cascade' from sqlplus for all the target schemas and rtr/rtu. Then create new reopositories again. After that I restart the database , runtime service not started. Then I tried manually start it, failed.
Anyidea? Should I reinstall the software?
Thanks,
Daming
