No S.M.A.R.T. diagnostics on Maxtor 7Y250M0???
Hi,
I have an iMac G5 from the fall of 2004 that refuses to boot from the internal hard drive. There's no S.M.A.R.T. status in the Disk Utility. Disk Warrior also reports no S.M.A.R.T. capability in the drive. Disk Warrior also hangs up and reports a drive malfunction when trying to rebuild the directory.
I'm guessing the drive is toast, but does anyone else have a Maxtor 7Y250M0 drive that does shows the S.M.A.R.T. status in the Disk Utility? I assume it should, but I just want to make sure.

Just an update: looks like the hard drive failed again. I just ran the extended hardware test and got this:
2STF/8/3: S-ATA Bus O-MasterI had to have it replaced a year ago for the same error, so it looks like another trip to the Apple Store is in order...

Hi,
I have been using the 865PE Neo2 board fine for about 6 months, although yesterday my OS (XP) hung. When I rebooted, I got the following message:
'Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM'
I tried to repair the OS by booting from the XP disk, pressing F6 and adding the 'Promise 376/378 Driver' (is this the correct driver? i have lost the original floppy which came with the board!). When I then press 'R' to repair, I am given the following message:
'Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer'.
I have run the hard drive diagnostics from maxtor which all passed.
Any help would be much appreciated. My system is as follows:

Other settings are OK. If you can't boot, change SATA only to PATA only. You may have to enter the bios again after saving these changes to get the boot drive reselected. -
Help diagnosing spinning ball / crashes
Hi - looking for help to diagnose a problem with my iMac G5 2.0 GHz 17" (MacOs 10.4.11).
Symptoms are that after a few hours running, the spinning ball appears more & more often till eventually locks up, often with the fan(s) going into overdrive at the same time. Sometimes prior to the lock up the hard drive starts clicking. Once it hits this point the only way to recover is to force power down & restart. Often have to leave the machine alone for a few hours before it will restart successfully.
My suspicion is that it may be the hard drive over-heating or possibly about to fail. I've checked the SMART diagnostics via Disk Utility and Disk Warrior and they both say everything's fine, except once on Disk Warrior when SMART check came back with: "The hard drive's built-in temperature sensor indicates an above normal temperature of 150.8 F (66 C), this might indicate a failure or pending failure that could result in loss of data". I checked again immediately after and it reverted to OK again.
Btw, I had a logic board failure some 2-3 years back. This was replaced by Apple under the extended warranty. I've checked the caps now - they are all pristine. I've also cleaned out all the dust to give the fans the best chance to work.
I've used Hardware Monitor (http://www.bresink.com/osx/HardwareMonit...) to log the temps. This reports three temp sensors: CPU, "Hard Drive" and "SMART Disk Maxtor 7Y250M0 (Y668LJSE)". The last two seem to track each other with "Hard Drive" generally 7-9 degrees lower than "SMART Disk", so I guess one may be a sensor outside the drive and the other on the inside.
Immediately prior to the last failure, the "SMART Disk" sensor had hit 68 degrees C, which was a max since it had been started (although it had hit this temp a couple of times before without locking up). It locked up for 5 mins and when I restarted the iMac, the reading was 73 degrees C.
I've tried adjusting the AppleFan.kext to kick the fans in earlier to keep everything cool (as per http://bitsandpieces.info/MDDFanExtensio...) - going for a 10 degree reduction to default - but it's not obvious that this is doing anything.
So - can anyone give me advice on diagnosis / next steps. Does this sound like a fan problem, a hard disk problem, or something else? And how do I remedy it - should I replace one / all of the fans, replace the hard drive, find some utility to get the fans to run faster (haven't located one yet apart from the kext mod which does not appear to work), or ...?
Any suggestions / advice very welcome.

66/73C is toooo high though, check that the hd temp sensor is attached correctly. Some models it can usefully be placed on the drive body, rather than the mounting bracket, avoiding that difference in temps. My 20" used to run the hd sensor at about 55 I think, leading to higher actual drive temps until the sensor was glued in a different spot.
Fans/blades can get pretty crusty inside too, so check that if you haven't already. -
I am attempting to upload a manually edited WADConfig xml to my VM. The WAD service is functioning correctly, I needed to add some custom WinEventLogs. The prescribed steps result in an error.

Since Azure SDK 2.5 uses the extension model the diagnostics extension, the configuration and the connection string to the diagnostic storage are no longer part of the deployment package and cscfg. All the diagnostics configuration is contained within the
wadcfgx. The advantage with this approach is that diagnostics agent and settings are decoupled from the project and can be dynamically enabled and updated even after your application is deployed.
Due to this change some existing workflows need to be rethought – instead of configuring the diagnostics as part of the application that gets deployed to each environment you can first deploy the application to the environment and then apply the diagnostics
configuration for it. When you publish the application from Visual Studio this process is done automatically for you. However if you were deploying your application outside of VS using PowerShell then you have to install the extension separately through
PowerShell.
There PowerShell cmdlets for managing the diagnostics extensions on a Cloud Service are -

After the latest iTunes update neither of my iPods are recognized by iTunes, so I am unable to sync. When I run diagnostics it says no device connected. My laptop sees my iPod so I know it is connected. I have tried all of the recommended iTunes fixes and none work. I tried deleting and reinstalling both an older version and the newest version. The older version would not reconize my music libray. Any thouhts?

Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

New ipod seen in windows and itunes but not in sync diagnostics
I bought a second Ipod. Oldest one works fine. New one is seen in Windows and in ITunes. Diagnostics "finds" new Ipod, but on Sync diagnostics says "no Ipod found".
Ne Ipod looks like it's staring to sync, then just stops after 30 seconds and goes to "connected" screen.
Have done resets of Ipod and reboots of PC.
Driver shows no error in Device Manager.
Have tried three differenct cables and both USB ports on the pc.I jus tried that. Computer acknowledged Ipod and Itunes performed restore. Afterward, same situation...no sync. Screenshots:

Application Diagnostics not working
Hi,
In our clone instance "Application Diagnostics" is not working. When I click on Application Diagnostics>Diagnose, then the page is coming but the tests are not visible. It was working fine couple of days ago.
Earlier an apps DBA ran a concurrent request and bounced the application, but he doesn't remember it now.
Kindly tell me the concurrent request to resolve the problem or please tell me if there are any workaround.

Please bounce the application services and check then.
Also, make sure you have no errors in the database log file.

we have tried print diagnostics that sais no connection, so we tried the network diagnostic that said its fine?
We also installed recent software and updates etc..
It was working fine yesterday when I used it then it came up flashing saying no connection. My husband fixed it and then now it wont send info through. My computer knows its there but it wont print..
Can someone tell me why it would just stop like this? And what can I do to fix it?

Hi all! I was updating the software on i pad to ios6, update was interrupted(apple update server is unavailable...). iTunes Diagnostics shows that "secure link to I tunes store failed". I use Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Can anybody help please?

I am trying to setup bootcamp on my MacBook Air. I have a wifi internet connection which works fine in Safari etc. However, when I get to the point of downloading the windows install files I am told the network is not connected, but it is!
I have a simple automatic connection set up to a wifi router which works fine for all standard internet functions - mail, safari, downloads in safari etc. Where it falls down is that the system doesn't recognise it in network diagnostics. When I reach the point of downloading win installation files for my air from the internet it says I am not connected to the internet and runs network diagnostics which proceeds to break my internet connection. If I stop network diagnostics, close the windows and simply switch my wifi off and on then I'm back up and running, but the network diagnostics still doesn't believe it.
Any ideas? Seems completely illogical to me...This is the message I get if that helps anyone...

I can't seem to run a hardware diagnostics on my MacBook Pro.
I recently had an issue with the Wi-Fi hardware on my MacBook. I wasn't able to view any local networks. Instead, the menu option stated that there was an issue with my wireless hardware. I resterted my MacBook and the issue persisted. My computer also went to sleep and I wasn't able to wake it up. Since then, everything is back to normal and functioning properly. I searched some articles on the support site on how to run the diagnostics at startup, but holding down the D key doesn't do anything. I'm currently running the latest version of Mavericks (10.9) and I have a 15-inch, mid 2010 MacBook Pro. Is there something missing that's causing me not to have the on-board diagnostics available to me? Is there even a way to check for something liek that? Any advice is greatly appreciated in advance.

with Mid 2010 MacBook Pros, you’ll need to use the Apple Hardware Test that came on the model-specific grey installation DVDs that originally came in the box. The diagnostic tools on the Recovery Partition aren’t usable on MacBook Pros that were originally equipped with Snow Leopard or before. -

Is there any way to get it to not disconnect everytime? I have resorted to just leaving Network Diagnostics open and just rejoining the network every single time I wake the computer. Any help here?

Migrating from 11i to R12 - setup reports and diagnostics

we are looking at migrating(not upgrading) from 11i to R12 and looking for setup scripts and diagnostics which can tell what org structure has been followed in 11i. Is anybody aware of such scripts and/or diagnostic programs provided by Oracle. We also want to find out the the volume of data etc in various primary tables. Active Directory Diagnostics not running in PerfMon
Hello all!
I am trying to run Active Directory Diagnostics in Performance Monitor to address an lsass issue in which lsass consumes too much CPU.
I opened PerfMon from an elevated Command Prompt and expanded the tree: Data Collector Sets -> System -> Active Directory Diagnostics. I right-clicked Active Directory Diagnostics and selected "Start." The diagnostic is supposed
to run for 300 seconds and then generate a report. Problem is, nothing happened after that. If I right-click Active Directory Diagnostics again, the "Start" option is greyed out.
Under Reports -> System -> Active Directory Diagnostics, there are no items to show.
I consulted the following Microsoft Document:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971714 and found the following file path where the reports should be located: %systemdrive%\Perflogs\ADDS\<var>date report generation run</var>\*. But there is no ADDS folder and the Admin folder that
is there is empty.
Has anyone seen this before? If so, how did you resolve it?

Diagnostics not working in web role for Azure SDK 2.5.1
I am working with Azure SDK 2.5.1, mainly on the new designed diagnostics stuffs. However, I found I cannot get it run for my web role.
So, I created a cloud service project, added a web role. Then, I appended one Trace message at the end of Application_Start in Global.asax.cs:

After that, I right clicked the WebRole and opened the Properties tab.
In the diagnostics config window:
General: I choose 'Custom
plan', also specified the storage account, keep the 'Disk
Quota in MB' as default '4096'
Application Logs: 'Log
level' switch to 'All',
others kept as default
Other tabs are in default config settings
After I deployed the project to cloud, I found some unexpected things:
There is no WADLogsTable exists
in Table storage. That's very strange, if I use a Worker Role, it would work as expected. So in web role, I just cannot find the Trace logging?
For the performance counters, since I am using the default config with 8 counters, I can only see 8 in WADPerformanceCountersTable table
storage. In my assumption, over time, there would be more and more values of this 8 counters transferred to this table. But it was just not happened, after several hours, it still had that 8 counter values.
I just thought the diagnostics for Web Role just crashed or not working at all. Meanwhile, I checked the logs located at "C:\Logs\Plugins\Microsoft.Azure.Diagnostics.PaaSDiagnostics\1.4.0.0\DiagnosticsPlugin.log" in
server, at the end of this file there is an exception said some diagnostics process exit:
DiagnosticsPlugin.exe Error: 0 : [4/25/2015 5:38:21 AM] System.ArgumentException: An item with the same key has already been added.

From MSDN,
the code -105 means:
The Diagnostics plugin cannot open the Diagnostics configuration file.
This is an internal error that should only happen if the Diagnostics plugin is manually invoked, incorrectly, on the VM.
It doesn't make sense, I did nothing to the VM.
As I said above, I just did very tiny changes to the scaffold code generated by Visual Studio 2013. Did I do something wrong or it's a bug for Azure SDK 2.5?
By the way, it seems everything is ok for Worker Role.Hi,
This issue could be an internal issue, I do not have any update on this as of now. There was a similar issue due to a regression last month that has been resolved, however i dont think this issue is related.
Please follow the below article on how to enable Diagnostics and let us know if it works.
