No search bar in The Mac App Store

Maybe I just haven't found it, but, why is there no search bar at the Mac App Store? I really don't want to scroll every music app to find guitar songwriting or every productivity app to find book writing software. If I know what I want going in why do I have to look at a lot of apps I have no interest in?  Is there a search bar I can just type in Book writer software or song writer software and only those selections will pop up?

The Mac App Store has got a search bar.

Thanks Matt, understood. It was my fault, just simply thinking, there is an App called "Installer"

  • HT4481 i have purchased a APP from the app store in itunes, it s air nav pro and was downloaded on the the ipad. now i tried to log in in the mac app store and searched for the app but it does not recognize my purchaes ! any ideas? i dont want to buy it a

does anyone know what to do ?

The apps in the iTunes App Store are for iOS devices, iPhones, iPads, etc. The apps in the Mac App Store are for Macs. Apps for iOS devices do not run on Macs. Apps for Macs do not run on iOS devices. Your purchases in the iTunes App Store will never show up in the Purchases pane of the Mac App Store. They are two different versions of apps for two different operating systems. If a developer has developed a version for both platforms they must be purchased separately.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select

  • HT203421 How do I get iphone apps in the mac app store? Also, my apps from my iphone will not sync to my mac. Why is this?

I've had my iphone 4 for a couple years, but I've recently purchased a new macbook air. For some reason, I do not have the option of syncing my apps from my iphone to itunes. I am currently running ios 6 on my phone, but I don't want to update until the apps are backed up to the computer. How do I resolve this? Also, is there a way to download and/or update iphone apps from the mac app store?

Connect the iPhone and iTunes will open automatically. Then, go to iTunes menu (on the menu bar) > Devices > Transfer purchases, and all the content downloaded from the App Store and the iTunes Store will be transferred to the MacBook. Note that in iTunes 11 you can choose the iPhone at the top right part of your iTunes window.
The Mac App Store is used to download Mac OS X apps, and the App Store is used to download apps for iPod touch, iPad and iPhone. You can't download apps for iPhone from the Mac App Store. Instead, you can download them from iTunes or from the iPhone

  • Getting Error Message when trying to use Software Update in the Mac App Store...

    Hello,
I was wondering if someone knows what this error message in the Mac App Store means. I am trying to run Software Update by clicking in the Apple Menu however, I am not able to see my available updates and instead get the following message on the Mac App Store:
I have tried to fix the error by deleting both the Mac App Store Caches and plist files in the user library and made sure that I am properly logged into the Mac App Store with my personal Apple ID.
    What else can I do?

I've been having the same issue. It was all fine until yesterday when I was searching for updates.
Since when have you been seeing this error message?
Last time I checked for an update was about 2 weeks ago and there were no errors reported. However, today I wanted to update iTunes to version 10.7 and decided to use the standalone installer rather than the SU version. Still, I decided to run the MAS Software Update function in order to ensure that my computer had all its software up-to-date and then I get this message. I don't think that me installing iTunes is to blame. Probably, it could be an internet connection problem on Apple's end I am still submitting a bug report to Apple.
Now one question, who is your ISP (internet service provider)? In my case I have Comcast and I am in Florida.
    Thanks for your reply!

  • How do I install snow leopard from the email/pdf Apple sent me if I dont have the Mac App store?

I need to update my Mac to snow leopard.  I purchased it online, and they sent me an email with the redemption code.  The instructions say I have to redeem it from the Mac App Store, but since you have to have Snow Leopard or higher to get the Mac App Store, I don't know how to redeem my purchase....please help.

You have half of the equation. Buy Snow Leopard and when the DVD arrives you use it to upgrade your Leopard system or erase the drive and install a clean copy of Snow Leopard. If you decide to do the former then be sure you use Disk Utility to repair the hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If you choose the latter do the following:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Sign into the App Store with your Apple ID and password. Click on the Featured icon in the toolbar. On the right below Quick Links you will see the Redeem link. Click on it to redeem Mountain Lion.

  • How do I download the Mac App Store using OS X 10.5.8

how do I download the Mac App Store using OS X 10.5.8

Well, you can cancel your Snow Leopard order if it hasn't already shipped. You need not wait on it as you can download Mountain Lion now that you have a redemption coupon (I assume that's what you meant by the email.)
After Mountain Lion is installed you can download a free copy of Mavericks. This all assumes that your computer meets the requirements for Mountain Lion.
Before you do any upgrade I strongly urge you to do this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc.
Personally, I would erase the hard drive then install the new OS X version. First, make a backup of your files from which you can later restore.

Try deleting the cache associated wi the App Store.
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Now open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy/paste:   ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
Click Go then move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
    Try the App Store.

  • Every time i try to sign in to the mac app store i get the message 'an unknown error has occurred"

I can sign into the iTunes store but not into the Mac App Store. I don't have this problem on my other Mac running the same Mac OS X 10.6.8.

Another way is to open your Time Machine back up or clone (if you have one) and copy the App Store app from the /Applications to your Macintosh HD's /Application folder.
Right click on the Time Machine icon in the Menu Bar.
Select Enter Time Machine; then navigate to a date you know it was still there and copy if from the /Applications folder.

  • I can't find the mac app store on my imac. i am running snow leopard, and i have run "update software" several times. what's up?

I am trying to upgrade to Lion. I need to go through Mac App store to buy it. I need to get the Mac App store icon in my dock. I have run Update Software several times, trying to get the Mac App store onto my iMac, but with no luck. It doesn't show up in the dock, it doesn't show up in Finder under Applications, and it doesn't show up when I search in Searchlight for App Store, Store, Mac App Store, etc. What am I doing wrong?

    I am running snow leopard
    James....
You arne't necessarily doing anything wrong.
Install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
That should reinstall the App Store for you.
Restart your Mac after the combo is finished installing.
You should see the App Store icon in the Dock and be able to access from your Apple menu also.
Make sure your Mac meet's Lion's requirements

  • Cannot find Mountain Lion on the Mac App Store.

I've called the Apple Store.  All I can get without paying $19.99 to talk to a real person is the automated system.  Through that, I am told that Mountain Lion is available "exclusively at the Mac App Store."  I can't find it anywhere!  I've tried searching and the only thing that I finally get is the upgrade for Mountain Lion,  Where is Mountain Lion hiding?

I think that you called Apple Care, not the Apple Store. If you are are not in the 90 free phone help or have not purchased the extended Apple warranty then it costs money to speak to Apple Care. But the Apple Store is always free to discuss purchases. 1-800-MY-APPLE
But the only version of OS X sold now in the Mac App Store (MAS) is Mavericks. To buy any previous version, you need to call the Apple Store and they sell you a redemption code that takes a day or three to get forwarded to your email from a different part of Apple.

  • How do I disable the Mac App Store?

I have a special needs son and for this reason I have to limit what he has access to on his iMac.
With the Mac App Store coming I had made the choice to simply not install/download the Mac App Store. I realized that this morning that is not an option, it is installed as part of the 10.6.6 update.
I removed it from the dock but still I realize it is installed on the Mac and for example it's an option on the Apple pulldown menu and I know there is an option of when a file cannot be opened there is an option to open the app store to find an app.
I looked at Parental controls but unless I am wrong could not find an option to completely disable the app store. I don't mind enabling it when I want to install certain apps on his mac that he will need. This may be convenient but simply don't want him to be able to get into the app store to install apps.
    Thank you for your help.

I agree. Current MAC is my first and I was happy with it. But this new direction means it will be my last. I've deleted AppSotre.app (or whatever it was called). but I still be Finder offering to search App Store for me !!! It is well and truly tied into the OS.
With windows you take what Microsoft what you to have. Now with Mac you take what Apple require you to have. So looks like Linux (where you still seem to have a choice).
Seems to be a lot of bad feeling caused by the fact that it cannot be globally disabled. Fanboys love it and hate any criticism yet many others are disappointed. For me, I'll give Apple a wek for a global disable/remove, them commit to Linux. (Of course I'll keep the Mac for Photoshop but no more updates and no replacement).
