No search in place-dialog possible

Hallo,
I am an InDesign User since version 4, but now the firts time i got a simple problem:
I get no search-results in the place dialog window shown.
There appears no spinning wheel and i can´t see any progress.
This happens too in my hole CreateveSuite (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator).
This only happens if i am searching for pictures on our NAS - the search results on my computer goes perfect.

all of these workarrounds don´t work.
I installed 3 Mac Minis, and all of them got the same problem.
I tried as Guestuser - the same.
Iv´e tried too to redet the Index from the NAS, but can not change it in terminal.
Iv ´e tried to reset the Index by the Spotlight-Pref (add to private and so on...) no effect.

Place dialog - Finder Search - Crash

I have looked through the forums and can't find this bug. Since upgrading to leopard, I can't use the search box in the finder's place dialog. It causes Indesign CS3 to crash immediately.
Am I the only one with this issue? I upgraded to Leopard. Should I do a clean install?
Illustrator's search works fine.

I'm afraid you're not the only one with this problem. My ID crashes on open window as well, while using the search window in top right corner.

A couple things can cause this.
Right click on the red x to find out the name of the png file. Search the web server for that png and make sure that the asp worker has access to it.
The other is a image handler issue. Search the kbase for Red X NET 2005 and you will find a kbase or two that addresses this.

CheckBox in search help restriction dialog.

Hi Experts,
I have created one search help with dialog value restrictions. Search help contains 6 fields.
Out of which three fields has length one character(Data Element XFELD).
As soon as user press on F4 on particular field, it will display pop-up window with restrictions and displayed 6 fields.
I would like to show that fields(with Data Element as XFELD) as Check Box in search help restrictions pop-up window.
Pls help... How can we do this.

Hi,
Kindly check the standard search help "F4TESTCHECKBOX". Copy it and change the dialog type to 'Display with restrictions' . On execution, you will notice that -
i) On the restriction screen the checkbox is displayed as textbox .
ii) In list display , checkbox is displayed correctly .
Follow Raymond's suggestion,
You could define your own selection-screen, and display it in a search-help exit : if step = 'PRESEL', display your screen, modify selected values in table shlp-interface and force next step as 'SELECT' to bypass standard selection-screen.

each user has been assigned a plant , so in search he has to get records belonging to that plant.
so i cannot include plant in my search help, because user may type in other plant.
so i tried two ways
1) i created a search help in se11 including the plant field again the problem arises if the user types a different plant.
so i want to know whether we can apassa value to plant field in search help(i.e the plant assigned to the user),
i have this kind of thing in some standard t -code i.e especially for searching material , the plant field in search help was filled by one plant.
this should be one of the solution
2)I tried to write a code in pov of program code.

PS CS6 OS X - "Place" dialog box disappears when I try to drag a folder into it.

We are moving to CS6 at work currently. In our workflow, we need to move from folder to folder (hundreds of them) often, and I do this quickly by dragging the desired folder into the open/save/place dialogs. Doing this immediately takes me to the folder I need without requiring me to navigate there manually.
In CS6, when I need to replace contents of a smart object (which I need to do proably 30 times every day), I right-click on the smart object's name and select "Replace Contents". A "Place" dialog opens and I can drag the folder of the asset I need into the dialog, but the dialog disappears when I click off of Photoshop to drag the folder. This happens in all screen modes.
What can I do here? It is impractical to keep source folders in the left bar of the Place dialog (there are literally hundreds of folders I use).
CS5 let me drag files from the Finder into the open/save/place dialogs. CS6 apparently does not.

Try this:
1) Open Photoshop CS6
2) Open an existing file by double clicking it or opening with dialog)
3) Select File > Open, and click on the Desktop
The Open dialog does not vanish?
This is Mac only. Never tried it in Windows.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Address book "places" feature Possible??

I would like to search my contacts list by location, on a map (similar to the "places" feature in iPhoto). For instance, if I am in Dallas on business, I'd like to be able to search for all contacts in my address book who have a Dallas address and map out ALL of them. This includes searches by zip code, area code, state, etc. I understand the address book is already paired with google maps and it's possible to map out a contact for driving directions etc, but that can only be done with ONE contact. I want to be able to see ALL of the contacts for a specific region. Possible??

Search in Open dialog don't work. CS6

I've just noted that the search-function in the Open dialog does not work proberly. You can't search for filenames.
The problem is only in InDesign CS6.
Any have a solution for that?

The search function in a dialog would be an OS operation, not controlled by ID, I think.

What you can do is create and save a file with an .html extension (say
into the Folder.temp folder -- just don't try Folder.appData
In the file, add some html like this:
Then you can do an execute() on that file.
It should open the browser, and then immediately open the default email
client installed on the user's machine.
If you're lucky, the tab that was opened in the browser will also close
(and if it's the only tab, then the entire browser). But probably what
will happen is that the browser will stay open with a script alert!

Save file dialog - possible?

You can use the MIME type which will use the browser to pop up the dialog box. I've used this with saving an Excel file through POI and it works well.

When using the search bar, is it possible to get the search results in a new tab?

In the old Google toolbar, it was possible to view the search results in a new tab. Google toolbar is compatible with Firefox 7, so I have to use the Firefox Search Bar. However, it always gets the search results in the current tab. Can this be modified?

Yes. Open a new tab and type or paste ''about:config'' into the location bar, hit enter, and hit enter again to get past the warning. Then paste ''browser.search.openintab'' into the filter box that shows, then double-click on the ''browser.search.openintab'' line to toggle it (it will switch to bold).
If you'd rather an addon just do the above for you and add a menu option for it, try this:

Alternatively, you can type a search into the search bar and press ''alt+enter'' instead of just enter to open your search in a new tab.

Open/Place Dialog not behaving like other apps - win 7 64bit

I just recently switched from mac to windows at work. It was also a jump from orginal CS(mac) to CS5(win). One thing I am having a problem with is that I can't create shortcuts/favorites on the left in those open/place/save dialog windows. All I get is a static frame with Recent Places, Desktop, Libraries, Computer and Network. But no Favorites. I can't even expand them in to trees. I can't right click on the icons or in that pane. The only thing I can do is left click and it opens up the view they represent. In other programs, such as Firefox, OpenOffice or Notepad, you have a Favorites selection and you can drag stuff over to it at any time.
Is there any way to get that behavior in the Windows version of CS5?
I work on a weekly newspaper and do lots of placing from many different locations through the week. I used to set up the new shortcuts at the beginning of the week on the Mac but haven't figured out how to do that in CS5 on Windows. By having to browse back and forth to those different folders I am losing about an hour or more of productivity over the course of a week. It really hurts as we approach our deadline.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since Desktop is always a choice, consider creating a single Desktop folder and placing shortcuts to the directories and subdirectories in it. The more Desktop items, the greater impact on resources and performance, but a single folder that contains other items counts as one item.
If your files are kept on a network drive, Desktop can contain a shortcut to a shortcut folder on the common drive and all users can create shortcuts to it.
