No Service = constant restart
We had two LG phones, and I got an iPhone about 3 weeks ago. My wife decided to stay with the LG. Both use 3G. We used to get good reception in the house, but since the iPhone, BOTH phones can't keep a service connection. Stranger, when we leave the house, about a mile down the road we drive right by an ATT tower, and still have NO SERVICE on the face. If we restart the phones, they're both fine for about 30-60 minutes, then NO SERVICE again. It constantly loses my voicemail and requires my resetting it only to have it gone again the next day or two. This all began when I got the iPhone. Been to ATT 4x(new sims), Apple twice(re-re everything) and on the phone for hours (stupid suggestions). I'm ready to tell ATT to take a walk, as it doesn't seem to be hardware...before I make a sucker out of myself, am I missing anything?
<Edited by Moderator>
Turn off 3G on your phone and try it on Edge for a while to see if you can hold a signal. See if that clears up the problem with the LG. If it does its interference.
There have been reports of 3G being down for ATT customers in some areas.
(By the way, right next to a tower is not the best place to get service. They are aimed horizontally, not down).

FIM Sync service keeps restarting after being disabled
Hi - We are deploying the SharePoint User Profile Store connector and I have followed all the steps here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn511003(v=ws.10).aspx
However the FIM Sync service keeps enabling and restarting itself - can't see anything in the event logs except a Evt ID: 2001 - Service was started successfully
What is starting this service? How can I stop so that it remains in the disabled state?
Thanks
JHi,
Based on your description, my understanding is that you want to disable the FIM Sync service, but FIM Sync service keeps restarting after being disabled.
I suggest you start the FIM Sync service again and stop it, then disable it.
You shouldn't need to start those services manually - SharePoint will do everything itself when you start the User Profile Sync service in Central Administration.
Restarted the User Profile Synchronization Service in Central Administration.(Central Administration -> System Settings -> Manage services on server -> User Profile Synchronization Service.)
Stop the FIM Sync service and then disable it.
Here are two links, you can use as a reference:

Windows Time source resets after service/server restart
We have two completely separate domains. Our main domain has 4 DCs: the PDCe is looking to an outside source for its time source and the other 3 DCs are looking to the PDCe for their time source. The second domain, our DMZ, is setup the exact
same way. The PDCe is looking to an outside source for time and the other 3 DCs are looking to the PDCe for their time. If the Windows Time service is restarted or the server is restarted (during patching, for example), the time source changes
from the outside address to "Local CMOS Clock". From there, everything else will get thrown off. And now that I think of it, they might also revert to "Local CMOS Clock" after the service is restarted.
I configured the PDCe using the following command, which completes successfully:
w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:0.pool.ntp.org /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update
I can then run w32tm /query /status and confirm the setting is correct, but if I do the recommended "net stop..." and "net start..." commands, it will revert to "Local
CMOS Clock". If I leave it alone and the server reboots, it will again revert. This problem does not exist in our main domain. I have the appropriate rights and I don't see anything in the event logs that would indicate what the problem
is. Thoughts?
Chrisso the first thing is that only your PDCe should be going out to the internet (or another reliable NTP source) to get the time and that's done with:
w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:0.pool.ntp.org /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update
all your other DCs then go to the PDCe to get their time and we do that with:
w32tm /config /syncfromflags:domhier /update
so when you say you tested it on "test DC", you need to ensure the right settings are being pushed relevant to that DC's role and I'm not really certain about this test environment you have here
reading up on this, it all keeps going back to VMs doing time sync with the host, GPOs, scheduled tasks, or startup scripts
you can check the Systems event logs though, there will be messages in there stating why it reverted back to local cmos. it might do it if it can't reach the time source you specified and that part is normal but you need to check the logs first. even a successful
time sync message will help eliminate some of the causes
I think unregistering/registering the service starting with your PDCe should make it stick, as long as it can actually communicate with "0.pool.ntp.org". to verify this and to make sure UDP port 123 is open, run "w32tm /stripchart /computer:0.pool.ntp.org"
- if you get a time chart then communication is fine but if you get something else then you may have problems hitting that source and it's reverting back to cmos. -
iWS service will restart when system is taking heavy Disk i/o.
Using Win2k, iWS 6.0 SP2, JDK 1.3.1. The only plug-in in use is JDK 1.3.1_01The problem is unlikely to be directly related to disk activity.
Are you using any plugins? Are any messages logged to the error log? -
Does Arch have any tool to check what services needs restart?
Does Arch have any tool to check what services needs restart after software update just like `checkrestart` from Debian flavoured distros or `needs-restarting` from Red Hat ones?
Maybe there is some other temporary file that is not a library but deleted that slips through. I got my awk version now to replace my old hack code.
__pids="$(sudo lsof -F pfn |
awk '
/^n/{
# if this file is a deleted library or binary, show it
if (del == 1 && match($0, "bin|lib")) {
print pid;
del=0;
del = 0;
/^fDEL$/{
# the next file is deleted
del = 1;
/^p/{
# we check a new process
del = 0
pid = substr($0, 2)
}' |
sort -un |
paste -sd ' '
)" && [ -n "$__pids" ] && ps -p "$__pids" && unset __pids || unset __pids
Edit: Reorder logic, don't execute ps if no processes are found.

Kernel Panic and Constant Restarts
My iMac is acting up, constant restarts, it's the 27" with a 3TB Fusion Drive.
Started before the holidays, just rebooted, and then kept rebooting. I tried a re-install of Yosemite and it would crash mid install.
Brought it to the Apple Store, and they dropped a new image on it, and went home and restored from time machine - mid restore it
crashes again.
Another appointment - Techs kept it for a couple of days to work on it and run deeper diagnostics, they run an image and login using my
hardware and it stays up.
Brought it home - restored (only user data) and same thing occurs
3rd visit - Techs are very helpful - Went through a similar process, and I noted that I had an old time capsule from Late September and I would restore
from that in case something was corrupt in my more recent backups. Tried that last night and the same thing - crashes in the middle of the migration
assistant.
I keep thinking it has to be hardware. But where to start, and do I want to spend the money replacing a Fusion Drive, or CPU or Memory - It's out of warranty -20 months old.
I'll post in a couple of Kernel Dumps here.

SSRS 2008 R2 Services not restarting automatically after reboot
SSRS 2008 R2 Reporting instance not restarting automatically after patches install. Is there a way to resolve the issue
Windows 2008 R2 Server
16 GB RAMHi,
Follow this article to resolve the issue:
Reporting Services service doesn't start after the installation of MS12-070 security patch
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mariae/archive/2012/11/12/reporting-services-service-doesn-t-start-after-the-installation-of-ms12-070-security-patch.aspx
Workaround 1:
Modify the registry to increase the default time-out value for the service control manager. To increase this value to 60 seconds, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit,and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control.
3. In the right pane, locate the ServicesPipeTimeout entry.
Note If the ServicesPipeTimeout entry does not exist, you must créate it. To do this, follow these steps:
a.On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
b.Type ServicesPipeTimeout, and then press ENTER.
c.Right-click ServicesPipeTimeout, and then click Modify.
d.Click Decimal, type 60000, and then click OK.
This value represents the time in milliseconds before
Restart the computer for the changes to take effect. Check that SSRS services can be started now.
You cannot start SQL Server Reporting Services after you apply the update that is discussed in KB 2677070

Is there a way to monitor a services and restart the services?
Hello,
i hope i am posting in the right forum. Basically i am running Filemaker Server and i wanted to monitor the FM Services demon that run on the background but also i wanted to set up script that if the FM Service Demon goes down to restarted it. I am running Mac os X Server 10.4.6 on Xserver G5.
thank you
victorI haven't really done anything with it, but in OS X Server 10.4, launchd handles starting/restarting daemons that it is watching. If I understand it correctly, as long as launchd starts a process, it will be watched.
If you look at page 39 of the Command Line manual (http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/CommandLinev10.4.pdf), there is a bit of information there. Also, http://www.afp548.com has some really good info on launchd, if I recall. You can probably figure out if FileMaker Server is started by launchd or, if not, how to get launchd to handle it.
Aside from that, I just started looking into monit (http://www.tildeslash.com/monit/) to see if it would work for me, which seems like it can do sort of the same thing, perhaps with more notification and reporting. -
Have to restart VPN service after restarting macmini
Hello,
i am using a mid2011 macmini with Lion Server (10.7.2-Build 11C74) loaded over the Appstore, connected to an Airport Extreme (FW 7.6). I configured the VPN service in the Server settings and forwarded the profile to the clients. VPN connection works just fine.
When i restart the macmini none of the clients are able to connect with the VPN Service. Other services are running without any problems (screensharing, filesharing,...), but i cannot connect with the VPN service through any client.
After i restart the VPN Service (switch off and back on) in the Server App on the macmini it works again.
Is anyone experiencing similar behaviour with the VPN service after a restart of the server? Has anyone suggestions how to get the VPN service working even after a restart without switching it off and on again?
If you need further information please reply, i will hand it in immediately.
FYI:
I did make a complete clean install of the Server, without import of the timemachine backup to ensure the system is "clean".
kind regards

EPM 11 Services Manual Restart
I need to restart my EPM 11 system manually. Does anyone have the order in which the EPM 11 services should be started? I have HFM, FDM, Financial Reporting, Workspace, and Shared Services installed. Thank you in advance for your help.s
Hello,
Each system is different of coarse, and some services can be started in parallel. Critical is that OpenLDAP, HSS and Core are allowed to start nicely, I would look at a start up order based on the list below and take it from there.....
Database
OpenLDAP-slapd
HyS9SharedServices
HyS9Core1
Optional: Hyperion S9 Financial Management Service
HyS9BPMA_ProcessManager
HyS9BPMA_EngineManager
HyS9BPMA_EventManager
HyS9BPMA_JobManager
HyS9BPMA_NetJNIBridge
HyS9EPMADataSynchronizer
HyS9EPMAWebTier
HyS9CALC
Hyperion S9 Financial Management DME Listener
HyS9FDMTaskManagerSrv
IIS HFM/FDM
HyS9FRRMI
HyS9FRReport
HyS9FRSched
HyS9FRPrint
HyS9FRWeb
HyS9WebAnalysis

Azure PAAS Cloud service Role restart scenario
Hi Azure team,
I want to know if i'm changing any configuration setting value through azure portal, Will it restart the Role instance?
Steps:
Azure portal login->cloud service->configure->change and save the configuration value.It depends on the change, adding disks won't restart. Changing the underlying hardware - i.e. changing the size of the machine will force a restart.

Why does java service wrapper restarts only 5 times?
Hi, i have a problem in restarting my wrapper on demand.
I have a server and there this wrapper is running. The wrapper provides a service. This service is should be restarted after each call, because of avoiding problems with a memory or resource leak.
In my application i use WrapperManager.restart() of wrapper.jar from http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/.
I know that i can set the property wrapper.max_failed_invocations more than 5. But i want to restart the service every time after calling it. What can i do?
The log output is
STATUS | wrapper | JVM requested a restart.
FATAL | wrapper | There were 5 failed launches in a row, each lasting less than 300 seconds. Giving up.
FATAL | wrapper | There may be a configuration problem: please check the logs.
STATUS | wrapper | <-- Wrapper StoppedHmm, 159 Watt diff, that's interesting, can't picture Hard Drives using that much, can you disconnect one devie at a time to test it's not them?
