No service, not charging iPad?

There are 3 service bars but it says "No service" In the left corner, and not charging in the right. What do I do?

Hi, loverofmusicals.
Some USB 2.0 ports and accessories do not provide enough power to charge iPad. When this occurs the message "Not Charging" appears in the status bar next to the battery icon.  I would recommend connecting the device to the included wall charger and testing to see if the message ceases.

  • Not charging Ipad mini

My Ipad mini will not charge.  It is not the cable nor is it the charger.  My daughter has a Ipad mini also and have checked all components against hers.  All work perfectly fine when connected to her Ipad but do not when connected to mine. the only difference between the two Ipads is the software versions.  I religiously update mine while she is still running 6 point something.  I get an indication onscreen my Ipad stating that  "This accessory may not be supported" when utilizing both her wall charger, cable and changing to my charging accessories!  This is not the case when connecting those same accessories to her Ipad.  The battery symbol on her Ipad has the lightning bolt appear over it signifying charging!  My line of thought is that the port is somehow damaged.  Any others know of another possible diagnosis to this dilemma?

    Hello, Helopilot_Las_Vegas.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would recommend making sure the charging accessories are Apple branded or certified.  This could be the cause of your device not charging and presenting an error as you are on a newer iOS.  If they are Apple branded or certified, try the attached troubleshooting steps below.
    Resolving issues
If your battery doesn't charge, or if your device shows a low-battery image, black screen, or "accessory not supported" alert, follow these steps.
Inspect the connector at the bottom of the iPad:
Make sure that there are no bent pins in the connector.
Make sure that the connector is free from debris.
If there are bent pins or debris, please contact Apple Support.
    Otherwise, continue troubleshooting.
Make sure that the outlet you're using works.
Make sure that the Apple USB cable and Apple USB power adapter work.
Plug the device in to power and let it charge until your device turns on. This could take between 10 and 30 minutes. If you don't have an Apple USB power adapter, try connecting to a computer's high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be on.
If the device still exhibits an issue, try turning your device off and then on again while connected to power.
If the issue persists, please contact Apple Support.

  • Battery does not charge ipad? Do I have to replace it?

Battery is nor charging my ipad2. Do i have to replace it?

The quickest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter. When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Portable battery not charging Ipad Air

got an ipad air, only charges through the adaptor, nothing else. anyone has the same question?

My iPad Air charged from a USB port on my computer, a USB port in my wall outlet and from and Anker portable battery.
Are you using a certified lightning to USB cable? Be sure to use a good cable. Try with the cable that came with the iPad if you are using different cables.
First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • I have had my ipad for 6 months. We had a power failure and ever since my ipad will not charge with the wall adapter that came with it.  It will SLOWLY charge when plugged into computer port. Can anyone help me resolve this?

I have had my iPad for 6 months.  We recently had a power outage and my iPad was plugged in with the adapter that came with it.  Since then I can not charge iPad with adapter, however I can charge it SLOWLY on my computer.  Do you think the adapter got fried?  Also do you HAVE to have iTunes with an iPad, they were charging me alot of fees for games I did not download NOR give my password to have them downloaded so I cancelled iTunes because fo too many fees. Could this have anyting to do with the battery not charging?

Since then I can not charge iPad with adapter, however I can charge it SLOWLY on my computer.
Well, something's definitely wrong if it won't charge from a wall outlet. Make an appointment at a Genius Bar or take it to an Apple certified repair provider.

  • My iPad battery is not charging why ?

In the last 3 weeks my MBP 2009 battery stopped charging ,then a day after my MB whitewash battery also stopped charging even though health is normal cell count 99 and now iPad 2 Battery stopped charging .
The only explanation is Apple has sent a bug that turn off charging to get me to buy new products , however I refused to yield to this kind of trickery.
Like most business these days they in it for milking as much as possible
and make products that are difficult to repair and just throw them and buy a new one society so what are we going to do with all these broken things and then materials become more expensive it is madness .

I called them Apple and they said many Japanese were reporting that the cold weather was preventing charging , i warmed thre roomand so managed to charge the iPad and the MBP that stated that Battery needs servicing, the system profiler now states that it is in good condition !
And my MB white that had a dead battery ( putting that between my legs and maybe revive it ) ,and i put in a Black MB battery which has also charged .
How eveer the news that older computers runnimg Mavs reported battery issues this may cause people to buy a new battery like I did during the earthquake and then was given a free batteryand took the old one in.
I have took apart old iBooks and some Batteries inside the pack have a charge, I  tried to get the good ones from a couple of packs and make one good one but did not charge.

  • Ipad 1 - Not Charging

I have the original IPAD. It has barely been used since bought. Maybe charged 15 times. Battery life is still very good on it. But for some reason, I haven't been able to charge it. I can plug it in, and the Apple Symbol comes up, but then it only charges till 2-5% and then proceeds to say NOT CHARGING. I use an iPad charger and it still won't work. This has happened to me before, but if i plugged it into a regular iPhone charger, it would charge. This is not the case now, no matter what  i plug it into, it will not charge. Ipad/Iphone Chargers. Also tried my macbook but still not working. Has anyone had this problem? Is there anything i can do?
    Hope to hear back, thanks!

First check if your charger is the problem.
Try charging your ipad on your computer or use a friends charger.
If you ipad charging then the problem is with your charger.
If not the problem is with your ipad and you should go to an  Apple Authorized Service Provider https://locate.apple.com

  • Ipad 2 not charging using wall charger or mac

Ipad 2 wasnt charging properly and/or not charging at all. i have replaced the usb charger with a brand new one and it worked properly for awhile. Now, it doesn't charge using the adapter and using my mac. Sometimes it will charge, sometimes it wont, sometimes it will charge slowly, and sometimes it shows a percentage of battery life, but image says its fully charge. I haven't tried using a different adapter or usb besides the one that came with it, a generic ipad usb, and a apple brand new usb charger. All three wasn't working properly. My ipad is only 5 months all, looks brand new, no scratches no damage at all. And I need to also know if apple can fix this without charge if they don't see any misuse or accidental damage. I was also wondering how long it will take for them to fix it especially I live in Guam. Thank you!

Are you using the wall charger that came with your iPad? (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC359LL/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY) Charging the iPad through the standard USB Power Adapter (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB352LL/B?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY) is not supported because the iPad needs a higher wattage to charge. If you are using the charger that came with your iPad and continue to receive this error, I would book service at your Apple Store.

  • Ipad does not charge at all

    I need help.
My Ipad does not charge at all
I have put it on the wall and on the computer and it simply doesnt work
Doe anyone know what I can do?

    Hello and welcome...
Try a different USB port on your computer and try a different wall socket.
If that doesn't help, probably a good idea to take it in for service. You can make an appointment ahead of time. http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/

  • TS2634 iPad 4th Gen not charging with included apple 12w adapter & lightening cable.

So I've only has this iPad since Xmas.
It worked perfectly until a week ago when I started having charging issues with the stock accessories.
I plugged it in to the wall using the cable and adapter it came with and nothing. Not even the usual "Not Charging" message you may sometimes see when using an old computer's usb port.  However, if I turn it completely off while the cable is connected to the wall, It will charge just extremely slow (takes about 12-16 hours for a full charge).
Its a 4th Gen iPad 16GB (Wifi only) with the latest software update 6.0.1
Here are the steps I have taken thus far:
I've tried isolating the problem using the accessories that came with the iPad (Cable and Adapter) and these steps below...
    1. Tried different adapters and lightening cables (all apple products btw). Some will give me the "Not Charging" message, but still the same issue. Every now and then the lighting bolt charge indicator will show up, but it either switches back to not charging or will still charge extremely slow (and yes I've even tried disabling all the radio toggles such as wifi, location services, bluetooth, push, etc...)
    2. Utilized the same steps listed with the accessories as above using different wall outlets
    3. Hard Reset (Sleep+Home) then plugging in cable before, during, & after boot logo.
Haven't put it into DFU Mode yet & would like to avoid this for obvious reasons if possible.  Any other options I'm not thinking off?

Make an appointment at your local apple store and take it in. there may be something wrong with the charging port or the software that tell it what to do. ANd that's something for the pros to deal with.
If you didn't buy it at an Apple store you can take it back where you bought it (depending on their return policy but most places have 90 days)
The reason I suggest that....I bought mine at Best Buy and it had charging issues. I took it into best buy (the closest apple store is over an hour away) and they simply exchanged mine for a new one. If you take it into apple, the policy is to exchange your malfunctioning one for a refurbished replacement.
So I got a new device instead of a refurb. Not that refurbs are bad, sometimes they are better than the new ones, but I liked being able to walk out with a brand new device instead of a used one.
Now if you bought it from Apple, then that's where you need to take it back to.

  • What to Do When Your iPad is Not Charging?

When you first bought your iPad, did you plug it into your PC and become frustrated when you discovered that it wouldn’t take a charge? Were you disappointed to discover that the iPad doesn’t charge through PCs and you have to plug it into the wall to get it to work? Most newer Mac computers (2008 and later) will charge the iPad. However, those of us who have a Mac are not immune to the trials and tribulations of the “Not Charging” message that can appear without warning. For anyone who has experienced, or will experience the “Not Charging” message on their iPad, we have a couple of suggestions.
A couple of weeks ago, I got a “Not Charging” message on my iPad when I plugged it into the 10 watt USB 2.0 power adapter that was plugged into my wall. Surprised by this development, I assumed there was something wrong with my plug and took my third-generation iPad to my office, where I plugged it into my computer and got the same message. “Oh, no,” I thought. Something is wrong. If this has happened to you, don’t worry. Nine times out of 10, there is nothing wrong. You just need to do a little trouble-shooting.
First of all, only plug your iPad into a PC if it is absolutely necessary. It will take hours to fill the battery up and you have to leave it in sleep mode (the iPad, that is). You see, even though your iPad may have a “Not Charging” message, it is charging. It is just doing it very slowly. In a pinch, leave your iPad plugged in, even if you don’t think it is getting a charge. You’ll at least increase the percentage a little.
If you have plugged your iPad into something that has previously worked to charge it, there are a few things to check out before making your Genius Bar appointment. The first, and most obvious is to make sure the power adapter is a 10 watt charger. The iPad, especially the third-generation one, will not charge with anything less than 10 watts. Next, make sure the iPad is properly plugged in (I know it sounds patronizing, but you’d be surprised at how often the problem is just an unplugged power source). Check the connection from the wall to the plug and the plug to the iPad. If you are sure that everything is as it should be, try another socket, and then try another cord. Lastly, plug another Apple device into the same cord. If you’re iPhone charges, but your iPad doesn’t, there may be a problem.
Once you’ve determined that it is not your power adapter, try turning your iPad on and off again. To shut your iPad down, hold the “Home” button and “Sleep” button at the same time for a couple of seconds. When the slider bar appears, slide to shut down the iPad. Wait 30 seconds and turn it back on by holding the Home and Sleep buttons at the same time. When the iPad is back online, plug it in again to see if that fixed the problem.
If you have been able to charge your iPad from your Mac previously, but are suddenly faced with the “Not Charging” message, when you plug it into the computer, check your connection first. Then, make sure the USB cord that you are trying to charge your iPad with is plugged directly into the Mac. Don’t plug the cord into a multi-cord hub that is plugged into the computer or the USB port on the keyboard. The iPad needs a lot of juice. If it is plugged into some third-party source, it may not send the amount of juice needed to charge the device.
If your USB cord is plugged directly into the computer and you still see the message, try blowing air into the iPad’s dock connector. You could also use a folded piece of paper to loosen dust particles. You should also make sure that none of the docking pins are broken. Those tiny little pieces of metal can be snapped off very easily.
There have also been some known issues with external 30-pin devices being plugged into the iPad that cause it to malfunction for a short period of time. For example, if you have recently used the iPad camera adapter, it may cause the device to charge improperly. The best way to remedy that is turning your iPad on and off again. However, sometimes, you just have to wait for it to clear out.
Just to summarize, here are some of the things that may be causing your iPad to show a “Not Charging” message:
    Wall socket is bad
Not using a 10-watt power adapter
    10-watt power adapter is bad
    USB 2.0 cord is bad
Device is plugged into a PC
Device is plugged into a multi-port USB hub or instead of directly into the Mac
    Dock connector is dusty
    Docking pin is broken
Device was recently used in conjunction with camera adapter.

    Thanks for sharing it! great!

Hello, my ipad mini is not charging what so ever and it is literally 0%. Once I put it on my wall charger, it still won't charge. I tried rebooting it, by pressing the home and sleep button for 15 second. I tried to change the wall outlet, AC Charger Adapter with USB for the Apple ipad mini and nothing would not work. This happened more than a billion times, and i had to wait more than 18 hours just to reach 1% before.

I have lots of problems with my ipadmini.

  • My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable usin ghte same wall plug in the same wall socket?

My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or directly into an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable using the same wall plug in the same wall socket. This makes no sense but I see that it has been posted as a problem elsewhere. This must be due to some kind of degredation of the Ipod. . It is not fixed by IOS resets as others have noted.
Has anyone asked Apple directly about this?
