No service, sim not provisioned, copy numbers from old phone to iPhone!!!

As Apple don't provide any sort of useful instruction manual with the iphone here are the probs and answers I encountered with my iPhone 3GS.
*copy numbers from old phone to iPhone*
1st problem is that my old Nokia had far more numbers stored on it than on the Sim card alone, so having received and opened box of iPhone with new sim card I switched off my old Nokia phone, removed old sim card, replaced it with new sim card and copied contents to new card, then ejected new card from old phone and fitted in new iPhone.
NOTE: You will need to have an iTunes account set-up.
From the main menu in the iPhone select 'settings' > 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars', then scroll down & click on 'Import SIM contacts'. The numbers should be copied from your sim to your iPhone which stores the numbers on its memory rather than the SIM. - I looked for hours before discovering this!
If you have more numbers on your old phone, then be careful to select numbers from phone / sim which is in the 'phone book' > 'settings' >'Memory in use' because you can more numbers from phone to sim and similarly protect numbers from deletion by moving them to the phone memory.
It took me three chip moves from phone memory from Nokia to iPhone before all the numbers were moved.
Note that text messages are NOT transferred from Nokia to iPhone via sim.
**No Service* or 'Sim not provisioned'*
Not able to connect to the rest of the world or SIM not provisioned may be down to you not switching your phone off properly, no thanks to the rubbish instruction manual with the iPhone where they assume you know where everything is!
Anyone looking for help on this subject, look to the button located on the top of the phone at the right, and hold it down until you see the message 'slide to power off' the slide your fingers of the message from left to right until the phone switches off.
This advice posted by my own problems with using the iPhone for the first time today.
Having played around with the settings for a few hours I need to make comment that the iPhone is light years ahead of its competition.

  • No Service, SIM not provisioned

    Hi Everyone,
I've just recently purchased my first iphone (iphone 4) but i'm constantly getting no service in the top left hand corner since setting the phone up. Also on my network settings it's stating SIM not provisioned.
Can anyone help? As I'm a beginner to using iphones.

    Morning duffers102,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For troubleshooting on this, take a look at this article:
    iPhone: Troubleshooting No SIM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4148
    Resolution
If you encounter any of the above symptoms on your iPhone, try these steps to attempt to resolve the issue:
Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
Toggle Airplane mode On and Off.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
Check for a carrier settings update. Tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, a prompt will appear.
Remove the SIM Card and verify that it is a valid, carrier-manufactured SIM. Also verify that it is not damaged, worn, or modified. Then reinsert it.
    Restore the iPhone.
If you still are unable to resolve this issue, contact Apple support for further assistance.
    Hope this helps,
    Mario

  • How can I import SMS / MMS from old phone to iPhone?

Greetings. I wonder, how can I import messages (SMS and MMS) from my old phone to a new iPhone? I have my current phone for about five years and I have there many important messages I can't afford to lose. I know, that exporting messages is often tricky (my old phone is using Windows Mobile 6), but there are some programs that can export messages to various formats (.xml, .txt, .sms etc.). But the question is, how to import these messages into iPhone.
Is it possible via iTunes? Is there an app? Sould I visit Apple Store or support? Thank you for any ideas.
    Johny

Well, I am thinking about iPhone for the first time. My five years old phone is smartphone, but very early one (HP iPAQ 514, running Windows Mobile 6). I know that transfering data between different systems might be difficult, but on the other hand, we have the end of 2011, so I believe in interoperability (at least via third party apps).
Anyway, I've discovered few softwares that can export my messages from my old phone and put it into a file on a computer (in different formats, such as .sms, .txt., .xml or .csv; depends on software and options). But the question is, how to import it into new iPhone.
I've also noticed (from various discussions), that iPhone-related messages are usually saved somewhere in iTunes (something.mdbackup), but again, the question is, how to import it back to phone..
To be honest, I am quite surprised that there is not some easy on-click way (or at least tons of how-to or tutorials). The iPhone is quite a new product (since 2007) and before it there was already quite a large mobile and smartphone market - so "transferring data" should be already solved.. (similar to transferring contacts, calendars and so on).

  • Getting contacts from old phone onto iPhone

I've seen a few posts similar to this, but I'm looking for a simple answer. I had a Samsung phone through AT&T with a sim card and have many contacts on there. I'd like to bring them into the iPhone but don't know where how to insert the sim card to do this. Can it be done and can I do it myself or do I need to go into a store? I see a slot at the top of the iPhone, but it's not obvious how to remove it from the device. Thanks.
If I do this, can I then synch to my Yahoo contacts or will this overwrite the contacts from the sim card of the previous phone?

Page 6 of the iphone users guide covers SIM card installation.

  • Cellular - Suddenly "No Service" and "SIM not provisioned" iPad 2 and mini

I have an iPad 2 and an iPad mini and occasionally sign up for AT&T cellular service on both, has always worked and never had a problem, until now!
Suddenly on BOTH iPads I see "No Service" and if I check network in settings I see "SIM not provisioned"?
My question is, does anybody know what has happened, especially as it has happened to both of my iPads, what it means and how I can resolve it?
I was reluctant to post as I see lots of similar posts on line, but couldn't anywhere find a solution.

Talk to your carrier, it's their sim problem.

I am having trouble accessing the 3G network on my new ipad 2, what does it mean when it says that the SIM is not provisioned?

SIM not provisioned usually means that the 3G service has not been set up yet. Have you set up the service through the settings menu?

  • SIM not provisioned on an ipad that has been operating for five years, help

My ipad was installed at the same time as the MacBook Pro 5 years ago; I've never had to do anything with it other than upgrading the software (hook up to the MacBook Pro).  Now it shows "no service" and the network shows "sim not provisioned."  I wrote the sim card number down.  Can you tell me how to proceed from here?

You need to use the Transfer Purchases function in iTunes and then sync the iPad mini. Back up the application.

  • GoPhone Activation - Sim Not Provisioned

Hi, I recently bought a GoPhone on the AT&T Wireless website and ported my number from Sprint to AT&T but I cannot activate or use my phone at all.  I activated using the website and it comes up and says my phone is activated but I still can't use my phone at all  When I try to log in to my account on the website, it says my phone number isn't associated with any GoPhone account. The sim card in the phone has my ported number associated with it but nothing works.  When I first turn my phone on it gives me an error "Sim Not Provisioned. MM #2". I tried calling Customer Support and the guy told me to call another number, which sent me to an automated service and that didn't help me at all.  It's been 24 hours and I still can't use my new phone(ZTE Z222). If anyone can point me in the right direction, it'd be appreciated.

Never mind. I took it to an AT&T store tonight and my number port got hung up and messed up the transfer.  All taken care of now.

  • Sim Not Provisioned after doing iOS6 update

I recently restored my iPhone 3GS to factory settings and updated my phone to iOS6. All my data/apps/etc came over just fine after syncing but now my phone shows No Service and 'SIM Not Provisioned' when I went into Settings > General > About > Network. It was working normally previously. Data/3G was working just fine. Not sure If I need to contact AT&T to get them to adjust some account settings or verify somehow but it's odd that It'd do that after the update when I had done nothing different with the phone. I've gone though the standard troubleshooting (restarting, removing sim & reinserting, resetting network settings, etc) Any help/insite/suggestions would be appreciated.

It's possible the SIM failed during the update. It's not common, but it's not unheard of. Stop in an AT&T store and get a replacement SIM.
