No services to start

I'm an undergrad student attempting to install PeopleSoft for a class. I'm using a laptop, Win7 Pro x64, as the "client," or developer station. I'm trying to install Oracle DB 11gR2 on said client, and can't get it working. Apparently I'm having unique installation problems, as my Google searches are thus far proving fruitless.
After running through the installer and doing the listener and Service Name configs, I attempted to use the sqlplus command to reach the Linux box with PeopleSoft (and an Oracle DB). Received an ORA-12560 error. Successfully performed a tnsping to the Linux server. Went looking for the Oracle services on the Windows box to ensure they were all running; found them, but couldn't start them. Investigated to find they pointed to the wrong location (a whole different hard drive). Opened up the registry to find incorrect entries. I thought to correct the entries, but double checked the files to ensure they were there- only to find them missing. As an example, the tnslsnr file was supposed to be in the bin folder, but wasn't. The various files didn't exist in the new installation directory, and a general Windows search couldn't find them either.
Figured a previous uninstall didn't go correctly. Removed the new installation, manually removed all registry entries I could find that dealt with both Oracle DB installs, and manually removed the entries in the PATH variable for both previous installs. Reinstalled again, making this the third known install on this Windows box, and the only one actually on the machine now.
After all this (and reboots, of course), I thought it would work for sure. But now when I open up services.msc, there are no, repeat, NO Oracle services listed at all. None. I went looking through the install location and couldn't find the various .exe files that were associated with the old registry entries I had removed, nor are the registry entries there. Just to be sure, I tried and successfully performed a tnsping, then tried sqlplus and it gave the same error (ORA-12560). Attempting to start the listener manually, with the 'lsnrctl start' command, gave the "not a recognized command" error.
Am I crazy? I'm using the installer provided by my teacher, which several other students have used and been successful with. Ideas? FYI, the assignment is due this coming Friday (the 5th).

Hi;
I suggest close this thread as answered and reopen thread at Oracle Discussion Forums » PeopleSoft Enterprise forum site

  • SAP Service Not Starting in BI 7.0

    Hi All,
Today morning my BI 7.0 server restarted twice automatically, then I started the server in last known good configuration after that when I tried to start the server from SAP MMC it didn't started and when i checked the sap service in services.msc it gives error <b>"Some services stop automatically when they have no work to do"</b>.and didn't get started.
I found a thread similiar to this problem and following that I used sapstartsrv.exe in usr\sap\SID\......\exe directory. This didn't worked for me and by using this Both the services SAPEP2_00 and SAPEP2_01 got removed from services.msc.
Now I have installed these service again and now I am at same status as in morning,
    In Event log
For SAPEP2_00 and SAPEP2_01 the following error are avaliable:
--Initialization failed. Service not started. [ntservmain.cpp 1269]
    --Unable to change to Directory
    gms40\saploc\EP2\DVEBMGS00\work. (Error 53 ERROR_BAD_NETPATH: The network path was not found. ) [ntservstart.cpp 966]
If any one have gone through such situation please help me out from this, Its has became too critical for me now.
    Thanks in advance....

  • Web Services wont start, please help

    Hello all,
I appologize up front but I dont really have a lot of experience with OSX server. So yesterday I got a report that my companied website was down. I went in to check the server and it wouldnt log in just got the pinwheel for about 10 minutes so we rebooted it (me and my IT staff). Upon reboot we could login and all seems well except that the web services wont start and our website is still down. when you try and start the service you get:
" A service has encountered and error, Try to refresh the view (172.18.180.15/Web). Report the problem to the administrator if it persists. (could not start web service - details in error log)."
but when you go to the log to see what is going on the last entry says:
    " [Thu Jan 15 14:47:27 2009] [error] [client 172.18.180.15] File does not exist: /Library/WebServer/Documents/error.html "
that is about the time that the website appears to have gone offline... Also after navigating to the directory it says, there indeed is no error.html but all other files appear to be there. I have also used the terminal to read the last 100 lines of the error log file using tail -100 /var/log/httpd/error_log and get:

So im at a loss and any ideas would be much appricated. I know that earlier in the day one of our web people updated our website to add a calender using dreamweaver but dont know much about exactly what was done.
    Thanks again

Thanks for the responce. So it looks to me like the content of the webpage is all there , minus the error.html file. Its all located in Library/webserver/documents. I have gone there and am even able to bring up our webpage by launching index.html and it appears to work perfectly with no broken links. you just cant access it from the outside world.
here is the last bit of the access log:

and here is the output of the apache test command:
Last login: Fri Jan 16 08:36:31 on ttyp1
    Welcome to Darwin!
    MultiServer:~ admin$ apachectl configtest
    Processing config directory: /etc/httpd/sites/*.conf
    Processing config file: /etc/httpd/sites/+entropy-php.conf
Syntax error on line 8 of /etc/httpd/sites/+entropy-php.conf:
Cannot load /usr/local/php5/libphp5.so into server: (reason unknown)
    MultiServer:~ admin$
if i read this correctly looks like there is a syntax errror in the -php.conf file. So where do i go to see that file?
    thanks again for your help

    Hi Forum members,
We have a client that has intermittent issues with RDS on a 2012 R2 server.
As an overview of the environment, the client has a single VMWare host support 2 x Windows 2012 R2 VMs one is the File/Print/Email server and the 2nd is the RDS server used to allow the client to run MYOB Enterprise. Both servers have the AD DS role and
    DNS roles amongst others.
The 1st issue is that the RD Connection Broker shows the error: "The server pool does not match the RD Connection Brokers that are in it. and then "1. Cannot connect to any of the specified RD Connection Broker servers".
The above issue seems to be caused by the RDMS service not starting. When you attempt to start it, the service stops and the error in the title is logged in the "System" event log. Full transcript below:

I have been attempting to resolve these errors for some time, without success. I have read the many KBs and forum entries related to the above and applied a number of the suggested fixes, including the one which suggests to add the NT SERVICE\ALL SERVICES
to the "Logon as a Service" in the "User Rights Assignment" of the "Default Domain Policy" which is linked to the domain level, that both servers are objects of.
My question to the forum is, can anyone come up with a solution to resolve the above issues and all the RDMS service to start which will then hopefully resolve the broker error?
    Regards,
    David West.

    Hi David,
If virtual machines on the server are Windows Server 2012, then it is not supported to install Remote Desktop Connection Broker on a Domain Controller.
    More information for you:
Remote Desktop Services role cannot co-exist with AD DS role on Windows Server 2012
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2799605/de
Guidelines for installing the Remote Desktop Session Host role service on a computer running Windows Server 2012 without the Remote Desktop Connection Broker role service
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2833839
If the VMs are Windows Server 2012 R2, I suggest you install RDS on a separate machine to see if the issue persists.
    Best Regards,
    Amy

  • Apple mobile device service not started

Each time i try to sync my iphone to itunes it keeps on saying "apple mobile device service not started"
I know how to start it and everything its that when i start it it says "Windows could nt start the Aplle Mobile Device service on local computer"
I have the newest itunes and i have windows 7

first I would check the event viewer for into about what goes wrong that cause the service to fail
if this don't give a clear image about what the problem is
then I would uninstall itunes and resinstall it
if that didn't help I would ask questions about solve the problem in the itunes for windows forum  where people wise in the ways of itunes would be more likely to read your post

  • Problems with one of the front-end servers (service wont start)

    Hi,
Having a pool with two front-end servers (Lync Server 2013 on Windows Server 2012) and I cannot get one of servers to work properly.
The Front-End service is not starting.
Have removed both servers from the topology and installed one at the time. When adding the second server to the pool the service never starts, its in starting state and a bunch of error messages appears:
    - Server startup is being delayed because fabric pool manager is initializing.
Cause: This is normal when Pool is bootstrapped and indicates that the Front-End is waiting for a quorum of other Front-Ends to be started.
    - Pool Manager failed to connect to Fabric Pool Manager.
Cause: This could happen because insufficient number of Front-Ends are currently active in the Pool.
I have tried restarted one at the time, both at the same time...
    Reset-CsPoolRegistrarState -ResetType QuorumLossRecovery
    Reset-CsPoolRegistrarState -ResetType FullReset
I have also had a look at the kb saying that there could be a certificate issue. So I have ran that script but no certificate is misplaced in any store.
I have removed the front-end certificates and requested new ones from the internal CA, I have also done the same to the OAuth certificates.
    How to proceed?

    Hi there,
if you are still receiving, the same error, please try to shutdown the first Front-End Server, and give time for the services to start, however I would like also to add that with Lync server 2013 the Enterprise pool requirements is to have 3 Front-End Servers
in a pool instead of 2, because  of introducing the brick model  architecture.

  • Exchange 2013 CU5 fresh install suffering issues with services not starting and coexistence with 2007

    Hi everyone,
Hope you can help me out on a couple of issues I've been experiencing during the initial stages of a project to upgrade an on premise Exchange 2007 to 2013.
On Monday last week I installed the first Exchange 2013 server into the network after a few weeks of careful planning, information gathering and remediation of our current Exchange 2007 environment and associated systems.
The server itself has been having some issues from the word go, some of which I've resolved but none that are show stoppers but I want to get them resolved before building more servers and setting up the planned 2 x 2 node DAG's
The main problems are as follows:
There's usually one service that does not start following an OS restart and it's not always the same service. So far I've seen the following not start: DAG Management, Migration Workflow, Anti-spam Update, Unified Messaging, UM Call Router, Transport
    Service.
The critical system event log entries are complaining of timeouts when the services are starting up but I can't imagine that the servers boot time is too long...  It's a 2 vCPU/12Gb vRAM VM, Windows 2012 R2
I receive an error in the Event Log regarding RPC over HTTP Proxy
to one of the 2007 CAS servers (not our primary one). The first error was because the Windows Component was missing but since installing it, disabling Outlook Anywhere, reenabling it, restarting the server, I now have a new error which is shown further down
    this post
The Exchange 2013 server install is pretty default, CAS/MBX roles and some basic configuration performed such as new DNS entries, Public SSL certs installed and assigned, URL's updates, SCP updated. I have review and resolved some errors from the event logs
for over chatty warnings about disk space (the warning is that we have loads of space...)
This is a brief outline of the environment:
    Exchange 2007 SP3 RU13
UK - Two physical locations in a stretch LAN (100Mb WAN)
4 x CCR Cluster Mailbox Servers in two separate CCR Clusters
Cluster 1 - Windows 2003 R2: One physical, one virtual server - don't ask, legacy install and I know the virtual is not a supported configuration.
Cluster 2 - Windows 2008 R2: Two virtuals - New cluster built following a 4 day failure of Cluster 1. The aim was to move to supported config and decommission cluster 1.
Note: Migration of Cluster 1 to Cluster 2 was halted as 2013 was so close it seemed pointless to continue the migration and instead migrate both Clusters to 2013 once in production.
    2 x Virtual Windows 2003 R2 - Hub Transport Servers
    2 x Virtual Windows 2003 R2 - Client Access Servers
    1 x Virtual Windows 2003 R2 - Unified Messaging Server
    1 x Virtual Windows 2003 R2 - Edge Transport Server (DMZ)
    US - One physical location
1 x Physical Windows 2008 R2 - Mailbox, Client Access, Hub Transport Server
    Exchange 2013 CU5
UK - Installed into same site along side Exchange 2007 servers
    1 x Virtual Windows 2012 R2 - Mailbox, Client Access Server
Problem 2 Error Message - Please note, server names and domain name changed:

    Hi Off2work,
I've gone through the article and the Get-OutlookAnywhere commandlet looks fine (especially when compared with our working CAS).
Having looked through IIS I have spotted two additional misconfigurations with a missing setting to require SSL on the RPC folder and also the .NET version was not set.
I've now set those to Require SSL and .NET 2.0.5072 however this has made no difference following restarted of both 2007 CAS and 2013 servers.
I could potentially reinstall the CAS server or additionally decommission it as we have two of them and the other is not causing any errors with the 2013 server. This broken CAS server doesn't even have DNS records (except it's own hostname) or firewall
rules pointing to it, nor does it have any active client connections if I check with a quick netstat -a
As for UM, it's next on my list following some client/server connectivity testing so I have not yet assigned the SSL to the services or setup the dial plans, etc.
The services do start most of the time, but others then don't so it's not a consistent issue with just this service. On my current boot, the DAG Management service failed to start, but again I don't have a DAG implemented yet.
I will see if UM drops out of that list once I've configured it shortly
Thanks for taking the time to respond (and that goes to DareDevil too)

  • Coldfusion 11 install successful but service wont start

I downloaded the latest coldfusion 64bit for windows yesterday, file ColdFusion_11_WWEJ_win64.exe, and it completed installation successfully on my windows 7 professional machine. The Cold Fusion Application Server service did not start and trying to start it via services results in a 1053 error immediately. There are no log files generated at this point.
I have tried installing 4 times with various options. I am using apache for the web server, which works fine with coldfusion 9. I tried the hotfix patch 4 for cf 11, which was mentioned in another post. It installed properly but had no effect. I also checked the xml file C:\ColdFusion11\cfusion\runtime\conf\context.xml to make sure that
<Manager pathname=""/> was not commented out (and it wasnt), which was mentioned in an adobe blog post.
Does anyone have any idea how to get the service running?

    thanks for reply
but my firewall is not on and the coldfusion server service
aint starting whiles the other two services(ODBC etc) are running
    smooth.

  • When I download itunes, it says that Ipod Service failed to start. I checked the services under task manager and when I try to start it, it says access denied. How to I get access and for the ipod service to start and run?

Please help. My ipod classic could not be recognised by itunes when I connect my ipod to PC. Previously it has been recognised before I updated. This was a while ago now and so I removed all apple files and re installed the latest itunes but am having the same problem.
When I download itunes, it says that Ipod Service failed to start. I checked the services under task manager and when I try to start it, it says access denied. How to I get access and for the ipod service to start and run?

Some anti-virus programs (e.g., McAfee) have this rule that can be invoked under the "maximum protection" settings: PREVENT PROGRAMS REGISTERING AS A SERVICE. If that rule is set to BLOCK, then any attempt to install or upgrade iTunes will fail with an "iPod service failed to start" message.
If you are getting this problem with iTunes, check to see if your anti-virus has this setting and unset it, at least for as long as the iTunes install requires. Exactly how to find the rule and turn it on and off will vary, depending upon your anti-malware software. However, if your anti-virus or anti-malware software produces a log of its activities, examining the log may help you find the problem.
For example, here's the log entry for McAfee:
9/23/2009 3:18:45 PM Blocked by Access Protection rule NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe \REGISTRY\MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\iPod Service Common Maximum Protection:Prevent programs registering as a service Action blocked : Create
Note that the log says "Common Maximum Protection: Prevent programs registering as a service". The "Common Maximum Protection" is the location of the rule, "Prevent programs registering as a service" is the rule. I used that information to track down the location in the McAfee VirusScan Console where I could turn the rule off.
After I made the change, iTunes installed without complaint.

  • SQL Server Reporting Services not starting automatically

    Hi,
I have Reporting Services configured on my SharePoint 2010 Foundation server and the service is set to start automatically under a domain account. However, the service does not in fact start automatically and requires me to manually start it otherwise when
I try to use SharePoint to read some Reports, it doesn't work. Once I start the service, it works.
Is this normal behaviour? The service will remain started until the server is restarted (Windows Updates for example). I would like the service to start automatically when needed i.e. requesting to read a Report on SharePoint site.
    Many thanks

Service should start automatic then, are you using some third party firewall that could block service?
And if you are using domain account for service, make sure it has log on as a service rights on local machine.
What is your event viewer saying?
In our domain environment we had similar problem with SQL and SSRS service, when I changed form of account for starting service from
domain\account to account@domain, problem was solved. I still don't really know how this helped.

  • FYI: TrendMicro antivirus prevents Transport Service from starting after installing Echange Server 2013 Service Pack 1

The reason for that behavior was TrendMicro ScanMail for Exchange 11. Seems that it was unable to work with the new SP properly and prevented the entire Transport Service from starting. Uninstallation of the antivirus eliminated the issue.

Actually, you can just disable the agents until TrendMicro releases a patch and then enable them again:

BTW, a similar problem (high CPU utilization and services not starting) is hitting the AVG package:

    2. Windows Server 2008 is not yet officially supported by CA Wily for the Enterprise Manager. If you want to install the Enterprise Manager anyway, set the "Windows 2003 compatibility mode" for the installer before launching it. To activate this mode, right click on the installer.exe file in the Windows Explorer, select tab "Compatibility", activate the check box for compatibility mode and select Windows 2003. If you do not set this, the installer will consider your OS as Unix and install shell scripts (no suffix) instead of batch files (.bat) and leave out some files for Windows Service registration.
If the windows service still fails to start please check if files ServiceWrapper.jar and ServiceWrapper.dll are present in folder lib. If not download them from attachment of this note.
The service should start although giving an error message regarding the ServiceWrapper.dll. You can ignore this error.

  • EPMA Windows Services not starting

Before you all jump on me, I've read almost all of the threads and documentation concerning this issue that are out there. I've checked the databases and they are configured appropriately, I've checked the IPv6 settings and they are ok. this EPMA installation is on a windows server 2008 r2 platform, Planning and other components are installed in a LINUX environment. I've got everything just about working except for the Dimension Server. The service will not start:

Any insight as to what I can do here will be appreciated!

You should take a look at the *"Database Installation"* part from the Installation Start here guide since if you are using Oracle Database to configure the EPMA components you need to install the Full Oracle Database Client since the PATH variable includes the path to the /bin folder for the Database client.
Following is from the installation start here guide for EPM 11.1.2.2
Install the full Oracle Database client on the following machines before you start your installation of EPM System products:
    Performance Management Architect Dimension server.
    Note:
    1. It is important to install the full database client as part of the installation because the PATH variable is updated to include the path to the /bin folder of the Oracle client. This setting is required for successful configuration.
    2. If you are using Oracle Database 10.2.0.4+, you must use a minimum of Oracle Database client 11.1.0.6.0.
    3. Performance Management Architect and Financial Management both require that a 64-bit Oracle Database client be installed.
    Thanks
