No Set Print Area? I'm out.

I was dealing with problems in printing huge documents.
I noticed ridiculously there's no Set Print Area and the workarounds are just for Macniacs...
This is show stopping for me definitely.

In Numbers the best way to work is to plan your document layout before you start to build it. If you are planning to print only a portion of a table, you can make that a separate table from the beginning, and you place it on a separate page. Or, you con plan to make a separate table that mirrors a part of your larger data set, and again isolate it to a separate page, perhaps a separate sheet but not necessarily, so that when you print you can direct the Print utility to print just the part you want.
If your data started out being housed in a huge Excel spreadsheet, you're right, the gyrations to print just a part seem burdensome, but aren't really so bad. In Excel, you have to select the area you want to print and then File > Set Print Area. In Numbers, you select the area you want to print, CTRL-C to copy, insert a new Sheet, Edit > Paste Values. Now you're ready to print just that area. It takes virtually the same length of time and is a very transparent process.
Further, now that you have separated the data you want to print from the whole, you can adorn it with text boxes of explanation, reformat to highlight certain data, etc. and then print. Really a much more civil approach.
If you're still determined to leave, have a nice trip back.

  • Set Print Area

I am using Numbers '09  Vers. 2.0.5 with OSX 10.6.6.  Any new ideas on how to Set Print Area, like in AppleWorks? Copy and paste or a macro approach are not usable. Thanks.

The  Print Area changes each month.  Columns 1-6, the 2-7, then 3-8, etc.  The quantity of rows changes from time to time also.
    Hi Charley,
Jerry's question led me to think of this type of solution:
Full is the original data table.
Limits is a new table on which the column and row range to be printed is entered. As your examples all contained 6 columns, I used =B+5 in C2. Other numbers are entered directly.
Result is the table to be printed
This is a Plain style table (no header rows, header columns or footer rows). The formula below is placed into A1, and filled right to all cells in row 1, then Filled down to all rows on the table.
    =IF(AND(ROW()<=Limits :: $C$3+1-Limits :: $B$3,COLUMN()<=Limits :: $C$2+1-Limits :: $B$2),OFFSET(Full :: $A$1,ROW()-2+Limits :: $B$3,COLUMN()-2+Limits :: $B$2),"")
The Result table may be moved to a separate sheet.

  • Excel Hanges up after Set Print Area

A user was having issues with Excel worksheets that were connected to a database freezing after she prints. I tried printing and it worked just fine. She was using Office 365. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and she was having the same issue. We found
that it only happens after doing "Set Print Area".  I was able to replicate the issue on my installation and the same thing happened. It does not occur when the worksheet is not connected to a database. What causes this? Is there a way to get
    around it?

    Hi,
Please check the event logs to see if we can find anything that may cause the issue.
Press Win + R, type "eventvwr" in the blank box, press Enter.
In the Event Viewer, browse to Windows Logs -> Application, you may find some error messages after Excel hangs, you can send the logs to us and I can help analyze the issue.

  • How to set print area in Pages

I've created a document in Pages and when I view it there are two pages.  I want to send it to people as an attachment and I only want them to see the first page.  I've tried to delete it, checked the margins they are OK, and looked to see if there is any want to set the print area and just save that.  Anyone has any ideas?

See Chapter 6 of the Pages User Guide PDF. You can download it from the Help menu.
Once you have mastered Styles, you should be on top of this problem. You may have some specific questions on formatting along the way, and there are lots of experts here to help you.

  • How to set a print area in Numbers

This one should be easy: set print range for the cells that require to be printed. There does not to be a way to do it, or is it so obvious that I missed it?

Okay, I've been following this conversation, can't keep my mouth shut.
For what it's worth, I spend about 90% of my work day in excel and while I'm no power user by any means, I'm reasonably competent in it. I think in spreadsheets. It's a curse. I've used every spreadsheet there is that will run on a Mac, and none has even come close to excel's usefulness. Yes, that includes all the third-party attempts that claim to be business-ready. They're just not, and neither is Numbers.
Crazierthanu, I think excel can at least manage all of the issues you listed. For global settings you can select all the tabs you want to change and any change you make on one will be made on all of the selected tabs. So if you set Portrait and Fit to Page in page setup, all the tabs will print in Portrait and the data fitted to a single sheet. The downside to this is when there are different "sizes" of data on the various tabs; that can result in varying font sizes, another problem. Again in excel (I choose not to capitalize microsoft product names, call it a personal quirk born of extreme disgust with the company), in print view one can, with a few keyboard shortcuts, select the area to be printed and set print area from the context menu. It's very straightforward. And you can select any part of the data to print, eschewing all else. This is how you'd print non-rectangular areas. You can use this function to print discontinuous areas also, though they'll print on separate pages. To print multiple tabs at one time, select each tab you wish to print while holding down Ctnl or Shift.
Anyway. I sure don't want to sound like an excel supporter because I've put myself through a lot of suffering to avoid having to buy it. And I still haven't. I'll go a long way to keep M$ from getting any of my money. But excel is a good spreadsheet, the best there is so far. Printing should be simple. Maybe M$ patented excel's printing paradigm and no one else can use any of it. That would be par.
Many of these items are possible in Numbers. What's so frustrating is the screwy slider that makes you print the whole sheet and everything on it. I don't want to print everything on a sheet, and I want to easily select paper orientation (I think someone mentioned how to do that and I'd bet it would work globally by selecting multiple sheets in the left column).
I too think Nick hit it on the head when he said that you have to compromise sheet layout to fit within Numbers' print paradigm. That's just ridiculous. The application needs to bend to my will just a bit more than that.
Because I've invested a great deal of hope and what to me is not an insignificant amount of money, I'll learn to use Numbers. But Apple sure missed the boat with this one if they hoped to get excel users to switch. Unless they have a serious personal vendetta against microsoft, pretty much any spreadsheet user in the world will scoff at this first generation attempt and continue using excel. You can sure make "pretty" spreadsheets with Numbers, but it's awful hard to get any work out of it.
I've printed the Numbers manual and maybe I'll learn what I need to know from reading it. Heaven knows I've read enough excel books! Maybe that's what the first version of Numbers needs - someone to figure out how to use it and write a book for the rest of us. Hey, maybe that can be my retirement fund!

  • How do I set the print area in Numbers?

How do I set the print area in Numbers?

    Hi Macuser4ever,
Numbers does not have the 'Set Print Area' feature. Numbers is designed around several tables, each with a purpose. For example, Input Table, Big Database, Intermediate Calculations Table (all of which you may not need to print) and a final Summary (Presentation) Table that you may wish to print. The Summary Table can be on its own Sheet. Arrange objects (Summary Table, Charts [graphs] and whatever) on one Sheet and print only that Sheet.

You didn't mention any color calibration being done on your monitor.  This is an essential part of any color-correct workflow.  What are you using to calibrate your monitor (and your printer)?
Print profiles (for soft-proofing as well as printing) are for specific combinations of paper & printer.  The nine you have are each, most likely, for a common paper (perhaps mfr'd by Canon) to be used with your printer.
I don't know what you mean when you say "I choose a high standard print option".
Have you read the User Manual chapter on printing?

There is also a good appendix on calibration:

Color space…creating a book in My publisher….when I look at the share book pre print the colors are all dulled out. I work in pro photo rgb in LR and PS ….My Pub is sRGB….where is the problem?

I finally got to my references. This had to do with "soft proofing" on screen in Photoshop.
So this may not help you at all. Re: Strange sRGB soft-proofing behavior  So go ahead and leave that setting at Basic.
However there is a Color Management forum that you also go to and see if anyone has answers for your particular problem.

  • How to set printer margins if using a lot of printers in virtual desktops which are deleted each time users logs off

    Hello,
i am using Firefox version 31. I have a problem with page setup margins. I need to use left
30mm; right 10mm; top 20mm; bottom 20mm. I am using VMware floating assignemnt linked clones
virtual desktops. After users log off - machines are deleted and users next time logs on get's brand
new VDI's. Users gets printers to VDI using login script from Active Directory.
    Option Explicit
    Dim strPrinterUNC, objNetwork
    strPrinterUNC = "\\some_server\printer_number_1"
    Set objNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network")
    objNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection strPrinterUNC
    WScript.Sleep (20000)
    objNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter strPrinterUNC
    Set objNetwork = Nothing
Each user have different logon script, because they use different printers (different printer names e.g. \\some_server\printer_number_2 ; \\some_server\printer_number_3 and etc. Page setup margins in Internet Explorer are ok. But how to make Firefox page setup margins as i need? For other options i have
used CCK2 Wizard 2.0.4 tool. It worked fine. Maybe i can put some information in C:\Program
Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref\autoconfig.js I have some usefull data in it allready. I
have found info that: "Setting print margins is done in the printer settings". I have a lot of
printers, so i can not set printer margins individualy for each of them. Now mozilla shows top,
bottom, right, left each 12.7 mm. What should i do if i have a lot of printers in enterprise
    environment?

Firefox has a profile folder that has preferences to save this. But the config that would need to be changed is:
print. save_print_settings = True - (default): Save the print settings after each print job
    Locking that preference: [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences]
    Or done manually:
#In order to check the margins, we need to go to ''File'' > ''Page Setup''.
#Once this is done, switch to the ''Margins & Header/Footer'' tab.
#Check what's set there under ''Margins''.
The following are the default values for ''Margins'':
Check these values accordingly and change them if necessary.

When you saye a you have set all the parameters, does that include the cell size in the print module? Are you printing on 5 x 7 paper? And, if you are, have you set that paper size in the page setup?

  • How can I set print paper quality in Aperture

I have recently converted from IPhoto to Aperture. Great but for one thing. In IPhoto when I send to print to my Canon ip5200r it prompts me for type of paper. In Aperture I can't find how to change papaer setting. All prints are coming out low quality. Any ideas??

  • Unable to set print options

i cant seem to set print options on a Mac using Mountain Lion.
Where can I find the options such as paper type, resolution and gamma etc.  its available when i print from pages but not from PSE9
    Thanks

Not in pre press industry, just trying to get the best out of my images/printing
The optimum settings for my media type are as previously stated Gamma 2.2 etc, these settings worked perfectly with windows
My recent attempts at printing with my new Mac have delivered dark and flat prints, the only setting I seem to be missing and therefore not amended is the gamma setting, so it's more of an elimination exercise to see if it's anything else that's wrong
I guess I was looking for the same ease of accurate printing with OS X as with Windows, so I do suspect your right in that's it's Epson dropping updates. I did ring them and a chocolate fire guard springs to mind
I am in contact with the media provider (Lyson media proved by Marrutt)  and they are doing me a custom profile that should hopefully resolve the situation
I did Google the issue and a random number of similar problems seem to be out there most related to the latest Mountain Lion and Epson apathy
Anyway thanks for your help and assistance I am most grateful for your time
Let's see how the custom profile works and I will no doubt be in touch if it doesn't

  • Lightroom 5 Prints are too Dark - We Need a Fix Now!

    Hi
    Am using LR 5.7
I import images in RAW and convert to DNG.
hen I export as a JPG and print, the prints are fine.
When I print from Lightroom's Print Module, the prints come out too dark with a significant loss of detail in shadow.
Adobe....  This has been a major problem since version LR 1...  It is High time you fixed it!  I have wasted dozens of sheets of paper due to this problem!!
My screen is a 24" calibrated IPS ASUS monitor.
    Windows 7, 64Bit.
    Many Thanks
    Kind Rgds

    Hi Butch
Do a google search for Lightroom Prints too Dark and you will find dozens of posts for all versions of LR. It is a common problem.
There are many hardware and software issues that according to a "Google search" would appear as a universal problem, while in reality, they are far from widespread. I can assure you that Lightroom would not be as popular as it is today if this were indeed a universal problem.
    Robert Mack wrote:
I also upload images from LR to a Print Lab and the prints are fine.
Yes, but is your lab making adjustments to the images during the print process? Many do. My labs do not, they simply print the files as they are submitted. Many consumer and "pro"-sumer labs apply auto correction to image files. Most of these labs do not even inform you that they are applying those adjustments.
    Robert Mack wrote:
The problem is using the LR Print Module to print on a printer attached to my PC.
I have the same problem with an Epson R1900 and a Mitsubishi
Yes ... and if you are applying the same settings/instructions in Lr for printing, the problem will persist regardless of the brand of printer used.
    Robert Mack wrote:
LR had ICM managed by Printer. The Printer has ICM managed by Host.
I did try this using the printer's ICM profile within LR. Still too dark.
This could be part of your problem ... if Lightroom is set for the printer to handle color management by the printer ... and your printer is set to be color managed by the host (i.e. - Lightroom) ... then in actuality, the images you are printing from Lightroom are not being color managed at all. Ideally, you should have Lightroom set to manage printing when you have the printer driver set to "managed by Host" ...
    Robert Mack wrote:
No windows apps are adding any additional processing in the printing process as far as I am aware of. The only exposure correction / adjustment was done in LR..... I am choosing the same printer paper profiles in all methods of printing.
You may not be making settings in your Windows apps ... but if your printer driver is set to make auto adjustments by default when printing from these apps could explain the difference.
Additionally, many folks think they are "calibrating" their monitors when they are not doing so as it pertains to printing. Accurate color is only one phase. While your colors may appear true, the monitor brightness may be too much to accurately render a near match of what a printed version of the image would be reproduced.
As trshaner pointed out, not only do you need to render a close approximation of color ... but also overall brightness. Most monitors/displays, even very expensive and high resolution displays, are extremely bright at default settings for rendering a close match for printed material. That overall brightness level should fall within 90 to 120 cd/m2 and be adjusted as needed for your specific viewing environment and papers and printer inks combinations.

  • Printing From PSE12 - settings not holding/prints are inconsistent.

Printing from PSE12, MacOS with PSE12 controlling color/appling profile.
Color management does not appear to turn off or disengage within any given print driver.
When selecting Color Matching, both ColorSync & given printer are active, both should be ghosted out.
After printing one image/sheet & printing again & selecting Color Matching within the print window both are ghosted out.
Saving a pre-set does not solve the issue.
Currently prints are not matching when having PSE12 controlling color.
what is causing this issue ?  Is it PSE12 ?  Is it the OS ?  WHAT !
    Please help.  THANKS

This inability to disable color management is within the OS, right ?  Or is it PhotoShop Elements ?
Yes I do have means of controlling color management from a driver stand point but the attempt here is to turn color management off from the OS & driver to allow the app to control color management.
Problem is that when printing and setting/selecting settings to allow this, it appears management is getting miss managed.
And if I set a pre-set within PSE, settings do not hold.
I do not want ColorSync to control color management.
I do not want print driver to control color management.
And settings to not hold from print to print and a pre-set does not appear to hold as well.
What is the fix for this ? Do not use PSE ?  Do not use MacOS, This does not happen on a WIN based system ?!?
