No Setup Assistant appears?

I just purchased my 5th gen. I hooked it up to my laptop which operates on Windows XP and it was recognized in the "My Computer" section and said that hardware was successfully downloaded. The iPod is also recognized in my iTunes9.
However, the Setup Assistant does not pop-up and there is a "Connected" message with USB picture on it rather than the large battery icon that I believe should be showing.
Please help!!!

I'm having the same problem. If I'm able to resolve today, I'll follow-up.

  • ITunes 7 Setup Assistant appears at every iTunes Startup

Everytime I start iTunes, the Setup Assistant asks setup questions. It seems that most setup information it collects plus other setup options entered in "Preferences" is not remembered when iTunes is shutdown. I have not seen this specific problem addressed in this "Installing & Updating..." forum so I thought I would start this thread.
    What I have tried:
    1. Uninstall and Reinstall iTunes 7.
    2. Removing and replacing "iTunes Library.itl" with my last working version.
The problem is still there. However, after performing #2 above, it does now seem to remember that my library is located on HD "H:" and not the default "C:". Other settings are not remembered though and I still get prompted with the "iTunes Setup Assistant" each and everytime I startup iTunes. Any help in correcting this problem would be appreciated.
    Dell Dimension 4100   Windows XP

I tried deleting the 2 files with the following results:
    1. C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref was present but had a date of 9/12... the date I originally updated to iTunes 7.
    2. C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Data\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref did not exist...
    3. I noted that both folders containing these files are marked "read only". (Is this proper?) I did try removing the "read only" but was not successiful. That attribute returned every time I checked.
    4. Neither of these 2 files have been rewritten even though I have restarted iTunes several times.
I am still being asked the same questions at each startup. I dont think I mentioned that while iTunes is installed at the normal default location on my drive C:, my music library is located on my external H: drive where it has been for better than a year now. iTunes is remembering its location.
You suggested I try setting up a new library... I assume I will be able to recover my original without much trouble. It's not huge, but I do have several thousand songs in it.

  • How do I get rid of the Microsoft Setup Assistant loop? I migrated my software/documents from another laptop so don't have the disk to reinstall. Please help! Can't open any Microsoft Office software, like Word, and stuck in a loop?

I migrated my software/documents from another laptop so don't have the disk to reinstall. Please help! Can't open any Microsoft Office software, like Word (for 2008), and stuck in a loop?
Whenever I select Word Microsoft Setup Assistant appears, asks for feedback, then after selecting okay (both on saying yes or no to feedback) goes on to a registration page. When I click on this it says I've already registered so I just click okay, and then move on to a update page. After this, if I click on Word, the process repeats itself.
As I said, I don't have the disk to reinstall, and can't find the Office Settings to delete as many pages have suggested I should try. Safe Boot restarting also hasn't worked... Really stuck and need Word very soon for work.
If you can help, that would be great, and feel free to ask any questions about the situation as I'm not an expert here.
    Cheers,
    Jack

First, export your contact from iCloud.com and save them on your computer in a safe spot some where (like you desktop).  Use this to help you do this: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3606
Next, on both of your devices, go to Settings > iCloud and turn on contacts and select Merge. Then turn off contacts and select 'Delete form my [device]' when prompted.
Now go back to iCloud.com and select a contact (yes they will all be messed up again) and select Command+A on a Mac or Control+A on a PC to select all of the contacts.  Tap the delete key on your keyboard (or right click /control click a contact and select delete).
You iPhone, iPad and iCloud.com should not be empty for contacts.
Go back to Settings > iCloud on both devices and turn on contacts again (you should not see merge this time).
Next, go back to iCloud.com and import your contacts (those exported .vcards).  You can either drag and drop them into the empty contacts list in your web browser, or you can use the gear icon to import.
You cleaned up contacts should import correctly into iCloud.com and sync to both of your devices.
    Good luck.

  • Computer crash?  Can't get past the setup assistant

I recently added leopard to my Power PC dual g5 and it has run terribly, so added memory today, worked ok for about 5 minutes then froze, manually shut off - which I have had to do several times since installing Leopard. When I turned it back on the setup assistant appeared, went through the assistant but it just keeps reappearing - it won't go past it. Restarted in safe mode and did a disk repair, it said the volume header needed a minor repair and it fixed it. Restarted but still back to the assistant issue. Please help!

  • Stuck in "Mac OS X 10.5 Setup Assistant"

    Hi there
Subject: Stuck in 'Mac OS X Setup Assistant'
I am stuck in "Mac OS X Setup Assistant" After rebooting following software upgrade, the Setup Assistant appears unexpectedly each time Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard starts up, and continues to appear even after completing all pages in the assistant,
I followed the steps advised by Joseph Kriz on 09 February 2008, in the enclosed webpage and achieved safe boot.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306998
However the window denoting safe boot has only login in button. No back button, no restart button. No other buttons, even after I pressed power button quickly, a few times.
    I am stuck.

This may be an issue with the pde plugins. PDE stands for print dialog extension and are included with vendor drivers to provide access to printer features not supported by the core printing system. If you are using a Power PC driver (or sharing it from the G4 to the MacTel) then that may be a possible cause. See if HP offers a Universal Binary driver for your model.

  • Setup assistant for 10.3.9 - can't complete process to create user account

After much searching, I find myself still looking for a solution and hope that someone here might be able to help me.
I just purchased a used iBook G3 (white), 800 mhz. The seller did a complete reinstall of OS X 10.3.9.
I turned the laptop on for the first time, the movie/setup assistant appeared, and I began to enter the requested information. So far so good. However, once I reached the "Create Your Account" page.... I entered my desired password and it won't let me go past that point. (If I hit Tab after entering my password hint, it just cycles back to the 'Name' field.) I cannot select a user picture/icon (in fact, no pictures appear at all) and the "continue" button at the bottom of the page is grayed out so I can't proceed.
I am completely baffled. What could be causing this problem and how can I fix it? I want to play with my new toy. I have gone through the previous pages and looked at the information entered, and I can't see anything that could present a problem. Restarting didn't help either. And to answer the question someone is bound to ask... no, I don't have the install disks. (The seller installed the OS.)
Thank you in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide!

One of the choices to consider would be to get retail OS X install disc(s)
of your own so you can go back and totally reinstall and test a System.
This may involve more than it seems; and the computer should have
included some OS X or other system software. The original software set
which shipped with the computer, including the Apple Hardware Test, as
a bare minimum. Since the computer itself could support Tiger 10.4.11,
if properly upgraded (RAM and adequate capacity hard disk drive) and
that system is less obsolete than Panther 10.3.9, you may have to get it.
{Sometimes, depending on the chosen password, if characters not valid
to be used in a password are put into the window-box, they may not work.
However most numbers, and common letters are safe bets; as are random
    choices using combinations so long as they don't contain incorrect ones.}
If you are in contact with the seller of that computer, perhaps you could
deal with them in regard to this odd matter; and see about getting a set
of installer discs for the computer. Was the seller a retailer, or private?
New computers shipped with adequate software to run, test & repair them
and the discs included at that time were intended to accompany the Mac.
Also, an installation without the discs is not a legal installation. The best
tool to find out what's going on would be the retail installer disc, and the
original Apple Hardware Test for the specific computer model. Harder to get.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • HT1766 Where do I find the Setup Assistant so I can restore a backup on icloud?

I have a backup from yesterday that i want to restore, however, I can't find the Setup Assistant in Settings? Help please.

Your post sounds very familiar to me,
The setup assistant appears on the iPad screen after you erase it in Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings, after you have wiped the iPad, then the setup assistant guides you through the iPad setup.
But you must erase the device first.
    These should be helpful.

  • Stuck in a Setup Assistant loop

Ok I have a problem hopefully someone can help.
I reinstalled leopard and reformatted my hard drive for a clean start. After I reinstalled leopard I did a software update, I can't remember what updates were need but several were updated including firmware, security etc. The updates installed but upon restart I had the spinning ball with the leopard background for 8 hours+ so I force powered down my MBP and upon restart the setup assistant appears, I choose language, country network etc and when its complete it goes right back to the beginning of the setup assistant where I am supposes to choose language and country. After I submit registration it just goes back to the beginning of the setup assistant and I cant get out of this.
Other details: I am using a different copy of leopard than originally installed I bought the leopard family pack and that is what I am using to reinstall not the original disc - I lost that one.
Hopefully someone can help I have a useless but pretty looking piece of laptop right .

  • Imac reboots to Setup Assistant

My system has thrown a wobbly, when I reboot it always goes to the setup Assistant, I complete everything and it goes back to the beginning.
I have used disk utility and all is well. Any help would be greatly welcomed,
I even tried re install leopard but still the same problem

    ticmic,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
If the Setup Assistant appears unexpectedly each time Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard starts up, and continues to appear even after completing all pages in the assistant, use these steps
Start up with a Safe Boot.
When the login window appears, do not attempt to log in. Instead, click the Restart button located at the bottom of the login window and let the computer restart normally. (If the Restart button is not displayed, click the Back button, then click the Restart button.)
    ;~)

  • IMac stuck at Setup Assistant when booting

I have a iMac that is about 4 months old. I have it set up with 3 accounts (1 administrator and 2 regular limited users). All of a sudden on a reboot I get no hard drive icons or dock and a setup assistant message. I actually went through the setup assistant again and reregistered and it still just comes up. Seems like I am locked out of everything. Anyway, I actually re-installed the OS and still same problem.

Try the sugestions in this Knowledge Base article; Mac OS X 10.5: Setup Assistant appears after every restart

  • TS4062 After using Setup Assistant, devices no longer appear in iTunes for Wifi Sync

I'm trying to fix an issue that is the result of a bug I disovered, and I'm out of ideas to troubleshoot. I'm hoping you guys will have some more suggestions, perhaps deleting plists or somehow resetting iTunes device syncing so I can start over.
    The bug:
Using Setup Assistant to transfer data over from my other parition which had iTunes configured to sync my devices causes the new partition's iTunes to NOT show devices in iTunes. When I plug my device in, the option to sync over Wifi is still enabled, but unplugging it still doesn't keep the device displayed in iTunes. Unchecking Wifi sync, clicking Apply, checking, clicking Apply and disconnecting results in the same problem - device disappears from iTunes. But if you go to Settings > General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync, the Sync Now button is not grayed out. Clicking it starts the sync, but it never gets past the "Looking for iMac" stage.
I'm in the process of filing this bug with Apple, but I want to include the steps I've followed to fix the issue so they know.
What I've attempted so far (in this order):
    Quitting and relaunching iTunes
    Restarted my iPad
Then forcing a sync on the iPad via Settings is the same result, endlessly looking for the iMac
So then I opened AirPort Utility, clicked my Time Capsule, then clicked Base Station > Restart. After the Time Capsule restarted and the Wifi was working again, I checked back in iTunes to see if the iPad showed up - it didn't.
So then I turned off Wifi on the iPad, Quit and relaunched iTunes, then enabled Wifi on the iPad and it still didn't appear.
Note that the exact same thing is happening with my iPhone.
    iTunes 11.0.2
    OS X 10.8.3
    iOS 6.1.3
    Thanks guys!

Not even deleting plists, essentially resetting iTunes, solved the problem.
In case anyone has troubles with this and none of the troubleshooting steps worked, here is your last resort, which finally solved the problem for me.
    Use Terminal to delete iTunes:
    cd /Applications/
    sudo rm -rf iTunes.app/
    Download and install iTunes
The iOS devices magically appear in iTunes, without needing to plug in via USB to enable Wifi sync.

i am a OS10.7.4 user. yesterday i bought a Lacie external hard disk but error message appear said " You cant open the applicant LaCie setup assistant because PowerPC applicants are no longer support". please help me how to connect my mac with Lacie??

You do not need the Setup Assistant; in fact, you do not need any software on an external hard drive. I have two LaCie's; I erased the drive as soon as I plugged it in. You will need to format it anyway because most hard drives come Windows formatted. So, if you only want to use it with the Mac, highlight it in Disk Utility and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format and the GUID Partition scheme under Options. While doing that, it will erase the drive (and get rid of the LaCie software) - once finished, your drive is ready to use for Time Machine or any other backup plans you have for it.
