No sharing tab:

can you help. On my PC running windows 7 I have the 'SHARING' tab in itunes but it does not show up on my mac.  I have the latest update to itunes and I have sharing in itunes and under system preferences turned on. can anyone help?

i understand this is an old post, but i recently had the same problem, so thought i would share how i fixed it for future reference. Once i made sure i had it set up right (turned on in preferences etc) and the sharing tab was still hidden,  i went in itunes to advanced>turn off home sharing(my email address). then turned it back on again, input my user details and BOOM it reappearered. Hope this helps someone!

    Hi All,
         Operating System: Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1
H/w:  VMware virtual machine vmx 09
Installed: File server role with "Services for network file system"
Server for NFS and Client for NFS services and up and running.
But when I try to create an NFS share using the folder properties the NFS Sharing tab is missing.
I tried to provision an NFS share using server manager "New NFS share folder cannot be created"
Noticed Event ID 1015 from NFSserver " Server for NFS was unable to validate licensing information at this time, the server will be nonfunctional until this information can be validated"
Tried to create the NFS share using command line but that too failed.
Request all to kindly assist me in isolating and fixing this issue.

NFS server is so weak (especially for 2008 R2) and keeping in mind you run that all hosted by VMware ESXi the best thing you can do is to get rid of using Windows as a NFS server completely and spawn a FreeBSD or Linux VM with a decent and recent version
    of Samba.

I don't understand why running the exe from the installation folder would have worked.
I would have simply tried to run that exe from its real location :
Sorry, I can't help you more about permissions...

  • Have turned Home sharing on in "File", but if I try choose the sharing tab in "Edit", "Preferences", It says Bonjour needs to be activated.  Where do I do this?

I'm trying to share my libraries on different PCs.  I have turned Home sharing on in "File", but if I try choose the sharing tab in "Edit", "Preferences", It says Bonjour needs to be activated.  Where do I do this?

Try updating iTunes on your PC. Hopefully it'll re-install or fix the Bonjour issue.

  • File Sharing tab not working?

    Hi,
I am having a problem with iTunes and my iPad today: I have a couple of apps that allow sharing of content, such as iMockups, Pages, VLC, etc.
I wanted to add a video to VLC by using the file sharing tab and adding the video either by the "add..." button or just dragging it into the screen (like I did before), but nothing happened. In fact, nothing at all is showing on the right hand side for ANY app!
So I disconnected the iPad and looked at the apps, and all three apps I tested (Pages, VLC and iMockups) have their respective files still there, so they were not lost or anything.
So I went and reconnected the iPad, and for the time the iPad synchs with iTunes I can see all files! But once the synch completes I cannot?!
Has anyone come across this before? Is there a fix for that?
    Thanks for your time
    Alex

The issue has been resolved, turned out to be a bad backup of the iPad. Restoring it to a different backup fixed it.

  • HT5372 I can't see my shared tabs

I can't see my shared tabs. I have 3 devices: iMac, iPhone, iPad mini - i see shared tabs of iMac on iPhone and iPad, but i can't see my shared tabs between iPhone and iPad.

The Safari tabs feature with iCloud will not be available until iOS 6 is available for iPhone.

  • The 'Shared' tab disappeared from my sidebar

That's basically it - the 'shared' tab [which should be impossible to remove] disappeared from the sidebar. According to Finder preferences it should still be there.
Also the Network icon [globe] will not let me connect to any other computers/servers on my network [doesn't even show them anymore]. At first the old G4 could still connect to the iMac running Leopard, but even that stopped now.
    Internet works OK, though.
How to get 'Shared' back ?

Assuming you don't have the button on the top left that says Inbox, a force quit out of Mail may work but I think you should reset your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • The Shared tab in Photos is empty

The Shared tab in the Photos app is empty for me. (Well, it has a "Start Sharing" button. When I click it, I am invited to create an album, although that doesn't actually do anything.) The shared iCloud streams I have that are visible on my iPhone and iPad, and that are visible on my family's devices, are not visible in the new Photos app. Anyone else having this problem?

Your screenshot is for setting up the library to share.
The next step is to select the photos for sharing and click on the Share button and select iCloud Photo Sharing:
Click on a new shared album or an existing one.
Now give the shared stream a name and either make it public or add email addresses for a private shared stream:
After clicking on the Create button go to the Shared section in the left hand pane of Photo and select the shared stream you just created:

  • Shared tab has vanished

The shared tab in my iTunes has completely disappeared and I have no idea how to get it back.
To clarify the shared tab being referred to is the section in the left menu under which shared libraries appear as seen highlighted here: http://www.mactalk.com.au/articles/lacieethernet_disk/itunesshared.jpg
Also of note, the shared tab in my finder windows has also disappeared.
    http://www.metzener.com/switcherblog/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/desktop-finder-w indow.png
Devices, Places, and Search For are the only tabs that show up there right now.
I'm on my college's network and used to be able to see around 15 shared iTunes libraries and 40 shared computers at any given time. The shared tabs disappeared from my computer a couple of days ago. I don't recall changing any settings on the computer at that time and have also tried restarting iTunes as well as the computer to no avail.

Just to be on the safe side, grab your restore disk and check the boot disk for errors ...
Restart the Mac while holding down the C key, pressing the power button and inserting your restore disk all at the same time. An Installer window will open, but do not proceed with any installations. Instead, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities > Disk Utility. In the Disk Utility window click First Aid, and then click Verify. If Disk Utility reports errors, click Repair. When Disk Utility is finished, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Disk. Select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.

  • I think someone might be hacking my computer.  I downloaded a free game last night and since then under the shared tab in my finder it says "hp002655a82ea0" and the only info I can get about it is that it is a pc.

I downloaded a free game last night and since then under the shared tab in my finder it says "hp002655a82ea0" and the only info I can get about it is that it is a pc.  Then under console I see several "stealth mode connection" attempts ti TCP 192.168.1.107:##### from 74.125.225.82.443.  The second number has jumped around and sometimes starts with 192.  I dont really know what those numbers are but how do I stop them from attempting to get through my firewall and kick them out of my shared tab???  I encrypted all my files and made sure all sharing is turned off so I don't know what they are doing.  Thank you very much.

Mac OS X versions 10.6.7 and later have built-in detection of known Mac malware in downloaded files. The recognition database is automatically updated once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders. In most cases, there’s no benefit from any other automated protection against malware.
The most effective defense against malware is your own intelligence. All known Mac malware takes the form of trojans that can only operate if the victim is duped into running them. If you're smarter than the malware attacker thinks you are, you won't be duped. That means, primarily, that you never install software from an untrustworthy source. How do you know a source is untrustworthy?
Any website that prompts you to install software, such as a “codec” or “plug-in,” that comes from that same site, or an unknown site, is untrustworthy.
A web operator who tells you that you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, or that you have won a prize in a contest you never entered, is trying to commit a crime with you as the victim.
“Cracked” versions of commercial software downloaded from a bittorrent are likely to be infected.
Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash, must be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. No intermediary is acceptable.
Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be as safe from malware as you can reasonably be.
Never install any commercial "anti-virus" products for the Mac, as they're all counter-productive. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use ClamXav -- nothing else.

  • Shared Tab Gone

As of yesterday, the "Shared" tab has disappeared in Finder - the items are there in preferences and are ticked, file and web sharing is enabled and I spent 4 hours with support failing to restore it - even did a reinstall from the DVD. I was able to see my 3 other Win 7 computers before under this tab - but the tab has gone! I see some similar threads in 2008 with Leopard. The network is pingable and I can use network printers and scanners and "sync" with my Windows PC calendars - but no "Shared" item on the sidebar in Finder - strange - any thoughts? Bonjour was installed on the Windows PCs yesterday - after speaking to support - no help. Also got MS Office 2008 installed. Has Apple sent out an upgrade that disappears this?

See my post here, which has links to several other similar posts:

I wonder how long Apple will ignore this? Isn't connecting harmoniously with Windows supposed to be one of Macs selling points!?

    netsh wlan show hostednetwork
you can stop this hostednetwork and then check if you can edit the name:

  • Shared/Home sharing tab not popping up?

My daughter and wife are trying to share their libraries, but on each computer the home sharing tab is not displayed on the left side. Home sharing is turned on on both computers, the computers are set to look for and send libraries in the sharing tab of preferences, and the two accounts are authorized on both computers. How do I make it work?

This article has really clear instructions for setting up Home Sharing: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4620
That would be an excellent place to start.  Also, check for Firewall settings on both computers.  If you have  antivirus or firewall software, try turning it off temporarily and testing again.
