No shuffle in slide show?

I hope I'm wrong on this, but... If I view an event and then click on slideshow, I can add music and shuffle. However, if I want to actually create a slideshow, I have all the options except for slide shuffle. In my case and for this slideshow it matters. Am I missing something? I don't know why you could do it in part of iPhoto, but not in the actual creation of a slideshow.
Thx,

Ashford:
You're not missing anything. The only shuffle is thru the album/event play button at the bottom. The randomness can be exported to Quicktime. Be sure to post that as a feature request at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.

Why can I not check the 'Shuffle images' box in settings of a slide show in iPhoto 9.6? All other settings I can check but this one.

    Hey Brad,
If you are unable to select the shuffle images checkbox, follow the steps in this article -
    iPhoto '11: Change slideshow settings
    Specifically -
To display slides in random order, select “Shuffle slide order.” If you don’t see this option, play the slideshow, move the pointer to make the slideshow controls appear, and then click the Settings button.

  • Photo slide show "shuffle" is not random

I have over 10,000 photos on my ipod touch and they are in multiple folders.  When I view a slide show on shuffle of my "Photo Library" (which contains all of the photos), the order is DEFINITELY not random.  Approximately 90% or more of the photos shown are all from the same folder, and the rest seem random (although even the other 10% seem skewed towards a particular folder).
It's only been happening since a recent OS update, not sure which one though.
Has anyone else noticed this?  Any way to fix it?

No one else is having this problem, or has a solution?
If the same problem happened with your music collection, it would be like having 9 songs from one artist, then 1 from another during a shuffle play.
Can someone please post the link to where I can make a suggestion/comment to Apple?  Thanks.

  • How to shuffle photos (random order) in slide show?

The Help of my iPhoto says I can somewhere set an option to make the slide order of photos in a slideshow be random (shuffle). I don't see this in any of the menus! The help says
"Click Settings at the top of the Slideshow window to set one or more of the following options:"
my Settings are at the bottom, not at the top, and I see all the other choices (music, transition effects, etc.) but nothing about play order. Am I missing something?
    Mike

This is one problem with on the fly slideshows and Ken Burns as you have no control on the zoom and the pan. If you want to have control you have to use the slideshow icon to create the slideshow and edit the Ken Burns effect on all or only those that are giving you the problem, Of course, you now can't do the random shuffle of slides.

  • How can I control the music that plays during Apple TV photo slide shows?

I don't want to make my parents listen to Breaking Benjamin music as they watch my photo slide shows on Apple TV. Need something more sedate. But if a B.B. song is in my iTunes music library, it is a candidate for random selection as background music for my slide shows. How do I control what music plays during Apple TV photo slide shows?

What I find is really silly, is the fact the music video's are listed under that artists albums in the Music menu. And when you go into the video 'album' (called 'Unknown' unless you change it) there is an option to shuffle the tracks. Clicking this just results in an error message. So, they should either remove that option if it is a video album, or, better yet, GET IT TO WORK. So silly of them to omit this.
    I have submitted feedback.

    Thanks.

Thank you Winston. I guess we need to ask that this feature gets added at least as an option in an upcoming release. When someone is using shuffle, it helps to know what is playing while viewing pictures.
Where is my Apple request button when one needs it ? :-) Cheers, C

  • New to iMovie - Slide Show project

I've been lurking in the iMovie discussions for a couple of months now, and I'm trying to absorb the knowledge of the community. I'm also working my way through "The Missing Manual" which is invaluable. I have two projects in mind, so I'm starting two threads to ask for advice.
First is my "Slide Show" project. I have around two thousand jpeg pictures from my daughter's wedding, and I'd like to put together a DVD of the wedding. This sounds fairly straightforward to me, but I'd like your advice on my plan.
The project starts with an outline on paper of the structure of the project - starting with David Pogue's "22 Shots for Your Wedding Video" from the Missing Manual.
Question 1: I'm thinking of a 20 to 30 minute show, with each slide on screen for 3 to 4 seconds, and a simple cross dissolve between most pictures - maybe a Ken Burns Effect thrown in as a transition between sections, say between the church and the reception. Is this a reasonable length and plan?
Question 2: I'm thinking of using a series of approximately one-minute music clips for the sound. Many years ago, in a different forum, I read a comment that the sound track was more difficult than the video, so I was thinking of putting the music together first, and laying the pictures over it. I'm planning to use Amadeus II to build the audio track, with fades from song to song. Then maybe just import the 20 or 30-minute sound track into iMovie and fit the video by adjusting each picture's duration. Is this a reasonable plan? Would I be better off to feed iMovie smaller chunks at a time?
Question 3: With no disrespect to iPhoto, I've grown up using Graphic Converter and so I plan to use it to shuffle through the 2000 pictures, sort and select those I want to use, and then crop them to 720 x 528 (or 1.364:1) for use without the Ken Burns effect. I realize that part of the elegance of iMovie is it's integration with the i-Suite, but is there any other downside to this plan?
Question 4: I also understand that I do not want to let iMovie render my stills, but to let iDVD do it. To do this, I would just quit my project without letting iMovie render it, and then open it in iDVD, correct?
Sorry for the length of this post - I've been thinking a lot about this project, but it's time to start doing rather than just thinking!
    Thanks,
    Joe
    iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.6) iBook G3 (10.3.5); Beige G3 266 DT (9.2.2)

    Hi Joe
Q1: About 300 to 600 slides sounds OK when there is a line in the story and
some nice music also will make it easier to appreciate.
Q2: I would import the 300 to 600 photos I need and work with them. Putting in
the Music first is the way I think animatours usually do it. I would at least.
Q3: I would Create a new folder "Photos" and with GraphicConverter™ convert
them to high quality jpegs and into the new folder. I wouldn't do anything about
size but let iMovie do it's job. If some photos showes up flickerings premiary
in thin lines. (You need to connect Your miniDV camera to Your Mac and to
a TV-set to be able to judg final quality). Then I would manually open each of
them in PhotShop and add a little "Gaussian blurr" to them.
Of course crop to right size first.
I-sight - I have no experience of it - sorry.
Q4: I do it another way.
    a) Close iMovie
    b) find the project icon/folder
    c) Ctrl-click on it and Show package.
    d) in this there are a folder -> Shared Movies -> iDVD
    e) in this there is a QT movie nnnnnnn.mov
    - You can test this with QT-player to see that it is OK -
START A NEW iDVD project - so that old material will not interfere.
    f) drop this into an open theme in iDVD (just inside the edge of the
window) and save it as a desktop image
(if iDVD prior HD/5 You have to add a hack to make this possibly
    named HPfurz and install it)
Test this with Apple DVD-player - OK then burn it with iDVD
or Toast if You have and don’t want to re-code the movie.
(in iDVD 5 You can drop Your iMovie project icon directly into a theme window)

  • Random Display of Photo's in a Slide Show

Does anyone know of a way to make iPhoto display photographs randomly in a slide show? I have been looking for a "shuffle" feature similar to iTunes but can't seem to find one.

peter, your wisdom is limitless! where would i be without you? i shall now proceed to the Feedback page, but first, some apologies are at hand:
everyone, forgive me for my attempt to open Lori's mind into thinking that although unneeded, it would be nice to have this feature. my comment was unwarranted, superfluous, and distracting. next time, i'll be sure to check my arrogant ignorance at the door.
furthermore, i apologize for my initial stupidity in regards to requesting a feature. i should have known from both Apple Discussion Board etiquette and the actual rules & regulations that requesting a feature is greatly frowned upon and, to be honest, tasteless.

  • Random order for slide show?

I have a lot of pictures in an album that I would like put in random order for a slide show. I want to burn that to a dvd to play at our day care centers (pics of the kids throughout the summer). is there any way to do this other than dragging and dropping the pictures manually? that takes a lot of time.

OK. Well here's a helpful answer. Someone's already written a quick Applescript for adding random numbers to every file in a folder. I added a little bit to the beginning and the end to let you be able to just drag and drop the folder onto the file, but give full credit to the poster
    Steps:
    (1) Open the Applescript Editor:
    Finder->Applications->Apple Script->Script Editor.app
    (2) In a new Script copy and paste the following text:
    --start copying
    on open the_Droppings
    tell application "Finder"
set separator to ("_") as text
set source to the_Droppings as alias
    set destination to make new folder at source with properties {name:"Shuffled"}
set shuffle_pool to duplicate files of source to destination
    set shuffle_count to count shuffle_pool
    set duplicates to {}
    repeat with shuffle_file in shuffle_pool
    repeat
set an_item to random number from 1 to shuffle_count
if an_item is not in duplicates then exit repeat
    end repeat
    shuffle_file as alias
set name of result to an_item & separator & name of result as string
set end of duplicates to an_item
    end repeat
    end tell
    end open
    -- stop pasting here
    (3) File->Save As
    (4) Type in a name for the file and IMPORTANT save it as an application.
    (5) Place all the images that you want to randomize into any folder. (In iPhoto6: File->Export from an album or; in iPhoto5: Share->Export)
    (6) Drag the folder with your images onto the little application that you saved from the Script Editor
    (7) The Script will create a new folder inside whatever folder you dropped on it called "Shuffled".
    (8) Now if you do an Edit->Add Slideshow in iDVD you can just drag the contents of the Shuffled folder to iDVD and you're done! It'll make a DVD in seconds! Now if only you could set the time to more than 10 seconds!

  • Creating a slide show DVD in Elements 9

Is there some way to creat a DVD of the slide show I assembled in Element 9 without having to purchase Premier Elements?  I have no video files to process since I have no video camera.  When I try to burn a DVD or CD with the side show a screen pops up saying I need Premier Elements.  It seem to me that if I can create a slide show in Elements 9 I should be able to create a disc of it also with Elements 9.

  • Selecting music for slide shows in I Photo

When 1st using my new IMac G5, I was able to select "Party Shuffle" as one of the selections for music to play for a slide show in the I Photo music selection drop-down box. That option has mysteriously dissapeared. Now, without that option, I can no longer cause a continuos stream of songs to play with a slideshow - - now, the drop-down music selection box will only allow ONE song to be selected at a time. This is unnacceptable. What's happened? Please fix this. . . .
    Imac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    Hi DBG2,
I do not see the Party Shuffle listed as a playlist to select, and I don't ever remember being able to choose it either.
You can either choose a song or a playlist. Check out the quicktime movies to see if you can figure out how to get your selection window to show the playlists.

  • Can you turn off timer on iPhoto slide show

i would like to turn timer off on I photo slide show is it possible

    Hello there, scbullard.
The online iPhoto Help menu provides some great information for changing settings on your slideshows, including the length of time a slide plays:
    iPhoto Help: Change slideshow settings
    http://help.apple.com/iphoto/#pht6d9774ac
If you want to apple the change for the entire slideshow:
To change settings for an entire slideshow:
Select the slideshow in the Source list, click the Settings button in the toolbar, and then click All Slides.
While a slideshow is playing, move the pointer to make the slideshow controls appear, and then click the Settings button:
    Do one of the following:
To set the length of time each slide appears, select “Play each slide for a minimum of __ seconds,” and click the arrows to increase or decrease the number of seconds.
To play the slideshow as long as the music plays, select “Fit slideshow to music.”
To change the effect between slides, select the Transition checkbox, and then do one or both of the following:
Choose a transition from the pop-up menu. For some transitions, you can change the direction in which the effect occurs by clicking the arrows.
To change how long the transition lasts, drag the Speed slider.
Tip:  If transitions play too slowly, try decreasing your screen resolution (choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Displays). Very large photos might also transition slowly; try changing the photo’s size (see Export a photo).
If you wish, specify additional slideshow settings:
To make each slide’s title, description, place, or date appear, select the Show Caption checkbox, and then choose an item from the pop-up menu.
To display slides in random order, select “Shuffle slide order.” If you don’t see this option, play the slideshow, move the pointer to make the slideshow controls appear, and then click the Settings button.
To automatically restart the slideshow when it’s over, select “Repeat slideshow.”
To prevent black borders from appearing on photos cropped to an aspect ratio that doesn’t match the display’s, select “Scale photos to fill screen.”
Choose an option from the Aspect Ratio pop-up menu, depending on where you’ll play the slideshow. If you don’t see this option, press the Escape key on your keyboard, and then click the Settings button in the toolbar.
If you want to make the change to individual slides:
To change settings for an individual slide:
Before you change settings for specific slides, it’s best to specify the settings for the slideshow as a whole. If you specify settings for individual slides and then change options for the whole slideshow, the slideshow settings might override the individual settings.
Select the slideshow in the Source list, and then select a slide in the photo browser at the top of the iPhoto window.
Click the Settings button in the toolbar, and then click This Slide at the top of the Slideshow Settings window.
Do any of the following (some options aren’t available for every slideshow theme):
To add an effect such as a sepia tint, click one of the effect thumbnails. To turn the effect off, click the thumbnail again.
To change the length of time the slide plays, select the “Play this slide for” checkbox and click the arrows to increase or decrease the number of seconds.
To change the slide’s transition effect, select the Transition checkbox and choose an option from the Transition pop-up menu. To change the transition’s duration, drag the Speed slider. For some transitions, you can also change the effect’s direction by clicking an arrow on the directional button.
Tip:  To see the transition, click the Preview photo.
To customize the slide’s pan and zoom effect, select the Ken Burns checkbox. For more information, see the task below.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Music during slide show

How do I play music during the slide show? I looked at the setting for Music and the only option available is "off" with a check mark present. There doesn't seem to be a way to uncheck this.
    Please help.
-Luck Kanthatham (Apple TV Source - http://appletvsource.com )

You have to dig into the settings. The slideshow music choices are limited if you do not have music on the actual appleTV unit. I have all my music stream from my HD. I had to go into settings and choose one album that the slideshows shuffle from all the time. From the slideshow window I have nop options or anything to choose from.
