No sign of iPod recognition when plugging in Shuffle

Hello everyone-
First off, I'm running Windows XP and the latest version of iTunes. I have an iPod Shuffle, 1 gb.
I've had this iPod about 2 months now. It has not undergone any serious conditions like getting wet. It has worked perfectly for those two months until yesterday.
Last night, while working out, my iPod decided to go out. It was not dropped or jerked around, but rather fastened to my belt securely. I assumed that it had simply died (I keep forgetting to charge it at night) so I go to my computer and put it in the dock. The charging light does not light up. I open iTunes: the iPod doesn't appear in the left toolbar. I reconnect the iPod, nothing, reconnect USB cable, nothing, try on different computers, nothing. I check Windows Explorer and My Computer: nothing. No recognition whatsoever.
The docking cable has simply been sitting in the same place as usual, subject to no events that would explain how it acts. The USB port works perfectly with a flash drive.
I then update iTunes (I've been putting it off for a long time, probably went from v6 to v7). Nothing changes.
Help? I've looked around the other threads and nothing seems to fit my case.
In summary, there is NOOOOOO recognition of the device. Zip, zilch, null. The problem is NOT the USB port, nor the USB power. The iPod has charged in this place happily until just yesterday. I am currently assuming the iPod is either FRIED, its battery is DEAD (repeated turning on-offs have yielded nothing), the USB cable is fried, or a combination of these 3.
Any more information needed, please request below. Also, is there a warranty?

I am now on my second Ipod Shuffle 2nd generation and this one has done the same thing you are talking about! The first one died because I forgot to charge it so the light was red. When i plugged it up to the dock to charge the light that usually blinks to recognize it's charging did not come on. There was no activity on my computer either. Usually itunes opens but it did not this time. I know it is not my computer because when I took back the first Ipod and got a new one, the new had no problems when I put the plug in the port. Now the replacement has a dead battery and is red and I do the exact same thing, plug it up to the port to charge and NO ACTIVITY.
What is going on? Once it goes red is that it? Is this a defect? Thank goodness I purchased the warranty coverage on this unit at Best Buy. But I can't get my money back because it's over 30 days. But they will continue to replace it to up to a year. i don't want to go back and get a 3rd ipod because it's too much time and energy to keep reloading all these songs on the ipod!!
What should I do?

I had switches off my iPhone 5 at around 20 percent battery next morning I was not able to switch it on. I tried to get it charged but it didn't showed any sign of charging even when plugged in for about 2 hours. I had to take it to apple care centre but they refused to repair it after confirming the problem with the device as it was out of warranty and asked me to get it replaced for INR 22500. I got it repaired outside but after that also if I switch it off in the same situation it again happens and I have to take it for repair it has happened 3 times after that. Is it a inherent problem in iPhone that it uses battery even when switched off and if in that case battery drain out then refuse to get charged because this is the scenario i have experienced every time?

Apple told you it was unrepairable.... You had it serviced by an unauthorized party. It's now no longer eligible for out of warranty replacement by Apple.
There's really nothing else we can say about it. Find a competent 3rd party repair shop or buy a new one.

My iPod itouch when plugged into computer just flashes the apple logo otherwise it just won't start. Try to reset -nothing.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod hums when plugged in.

My iPod's battery recently completely died to the point that is shut down. I wouldn't restart so I figured that it just needed to be charged. When I plugged it into my computer all it started to do is hum lightly. Its kind of like a buzzing sound. It is unresponsive of any buttons so I can't reset it. My question is: Is my iPod a paper weight now or can I fix it?

You may have a bad iPodDriver.kext file. You can either archive and install to replace it or try the last post by lynque in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5033398&#5033398. Before you do this, try putting your iPod in disk mode (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651) and if you can see your iPod in iTunes after this, Restore it.

  • Ipod freezing when plugged in

    hello
recently my ipod has been having trouble, generation 5 or 6 i think it is, 120gb, refurbished purchased direct from apple (warranty is up). lately when i plug in my ipod, it instantly freezes the ipod as if it were playing the music, shows song name etc.. and once i reset it, it's fine and plugs in. i should note as well that this is not the case EVERYTIME i'd say probably 9/10 it freezes.
about 2 months ago is when this started and then one day i plugged in my ipod and i lost all my music minus maybe 3000 songs that we're still on the ipod hard drive so i've had to redo everything once i formatted it. i was extremely frustrated naturally, but now it seems to just continue doing it and even some songs i put on my ipod play on itunes, but when i play them on my ipod they show up for 1 second and instantly skip to the next song.
now that i can deal with, maybe the song is the problem im not sure, however, now i plugged in my ipod today and it freezes, naturally, i reset it and now it connects and it's giving me the screen to change the ipod's name as if it's going to reset to when you'd first format the ipod. it's happened twice now, im kinda afraid to plug it in now, i just yank it out as soon as i see the screen and it's 'verifying" the ipod, when i yank it out it's fine all my stuff is still there. any thoughts on this matter? should i look at just backing everything up and reformatting again? id really hope this isn't the matter as i have playlists/ratings i'd like to keep which i initially lost when it first screwed up.
    thanks, philip

Your nano uses a totally different way to sync with iTunes than the touch. You need to follow the troubleshooting tips in this article about removing and reinstalling iTunes.

  • HT1349 My computer will no longer recognize my iPod. When plugged in iTunes sits at "Verifying Dennis' Books", and iTunes locks up. Thoughts to clear this, anyone?

When connecting my iPod to any of my PCs it hangs up while it is "Verifying Dennis' Books" (the name of my iPod).  The iTunes session shows as not working in a Task Manager. The iPod works okay away from the computer, but I am close to finishing the books on it and need to clean it up to load the next batch.  Any thoughts on how to get past this hang up? It's not like I can reset to factory settings, since I cannot even get far enough to do that effort in iTunes.  HELP!

    - Transfer itunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - You can also redownload them by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - When they are in your iTunes library, connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup.

  • Ipod freezes when plugged in to comp

i wanted to transfer songs from one computer to the next, so i turned the ipod in usb mode and stored 1 gb of songs(almost) on it, then i went to the other computer, and started to unload them. but half way through it, one of the songs wouldn't transfer, and after that, my ipod just wouldn't connect to the computer w/o freezing my comp (end task comes up after a while). i can't restore it b/c i don't have the option to (it just freezes once plugged in).

  • Ipod Scrolls when other that shuffle is used

My IPod 2002 20gb works only consistantly in the shuffle mode. If I choose artist for example then choose the album and enter, it will just scroll through all the different songs but never stop. I have done a reset but no change in operation

    Hi Terry,
Great, I'm glad it worked out.
I think every mounted drive has its own Trash --- I wish there were a way to empty Trash on just one of the mounted drives (e.g. an iPod).
If someone knows, I'd like to hear how to do it.

my ipod wont charge at all and there is a continuous charging sign when plugged in ? what can i do

    - Have you tried differnt cable/USB port?wall chargers
    - Have you tried resetting it:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - When you connect it you computer doe you se the iPod in iTunes?  If yes I would try restoring it.  First from backup and then to factory defaults.
    - You may have a battery or hardware problem and thus an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store may be in order.

    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
    Error 1600, 1601, 1602
Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.

  • Ipod Nano Not responding when plugged in to charge

I just got my new Ipod nano 4 eddition about 8 days ago. And I was listening to it for about 20 minutes today. I turned it off and when I turned it on again about 1 hour later it was completely dead. It wouldnt turn on.
Then I tried to plug it in to charge and it wasent showing up on Itunes at all. Now this keeps popping up:
The apple sign (The one when you reset)
    Then the main menu
    "CONNECT TO POWER" then.
    HELP

I've had mine for 3 months and it started doing this. I unplugged it when the battery had run down when plugged into my car adapter. I went to plug it into my computer and the screen didn't come on when I plugged it in. My iTunes then proceeded to crash. I restarted my computer and it did the same thing. My computer does recognize the IPod as plugged in sometimes though and shows it as a removable drive but I can't access it and iTunes doesn't show it as being plugged in. I did get a message once that said it was formatted for mac or something but when I clicked ok to get iTunes to format it, iTunes never came up. Help please!
