No signal apple tv3 to projector via hdmi to Dvi-d

I have a 3rd gen Apple TV. Works great on my 1080p tv, with optical out to my surround amp. When I connect to my Panasonic pt-ae500 720p projector via hdmi to dvi-d I get no signal at all. The projector is HDCP compliant and I can connect my ps3 to it at 720p no problem.
I have tried changing the edid settings on the projector, and changing resolutions on atv.
Any suggestions? I really need to set up my home cinema incorporating ATV
Thanks
Steve

It's an inherent problem between the ATV 2 & 3 and certain older models of TV / Projectors. Something to do with negotiating the signal between the two devices, the ATV falls over.
I also have this issue. I dug out my old PT-AE500 only to find that my ATV 2 was getting stuck on the Apple logo. No solution yet though, unfortunately.
There is another (old) thread on it here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2631562?start=0&tstart=0
There are a couple of ideas there, one of which was to switch the ATV on *before* plugging in the HDMI cable, let it boot up (give it 2 mins or so) then plug in the cable. This solved it for one person on that thread, but I can't get it to work here! I'll give it another try.
It's only the Apple Tv that has this issue as well. My MBP, Mac mini, etc, work perfectly. Just inconvenient having to lug them to the projector each time we want to watch a movie
Sorry I can't be of much help, but maybe have a read through that thread to see if any of the tips there work for you.
I'll also report back if I manage to find something that DOES work!

  • Apple TV turns Pink via HDMI?

Hey all, I just installed AppleTV for in a client's home theatre. He's using a Denon AVR-3808ci which has a plethora of HD sources going into it and everything works well. Last week I installed AppleTV via HDMI and after about an hour of usage, the main menu screen turned pink? We changed sources on his amp, then flipped back to AppleTV and it was gone, until 10 minutes later, he went to youtube, then came back to the main screen and it was pink again.
I swapped out the HDMI cable, which is a high quality 1.3 rated cable by the way, and it went away but came back again when he changed sources on the amp? Has anyone experienced this? I searched the forum for similar issues and saw one "green screen of death" thread so I was curious is anyone else experiencing this HDMI video sync issue? Thanks for reading.

Mine is a bit more conditional than yours but I have seen this happen.
I have a Vizio 60" Plasma Which I connect a variety of sources to. Problem with it is, the remote does not have discrete selection to the 4 HMDI ports. You can only select them with the HDMI button and scroll until you get to the correct port. I use a Harmony Universal Remote and this just was not working for me.
Anyway, to solve this I purchased an HDMI 5 port switch. I have an Xbox 360, PS3, Upscaling DVD Player, HD Cable Tuner, and the Apple TV connected to it.
It is not uncommon, and almost near consistent that when I switch to the ATV from another source, the first few seconds will show a pink screen. It will then clear and be fine for the rest of the time.
I had this same issue when I had a Media Center PC outputting a DVI signal converted to HDMI. This was consistently happening and I finally disconnected it because of this.
My advice would be to first try directly connecting the ATV to the tv/monitor and seeing if you get the same problem. If not, you can almost be sure the problem is with the Denon receiver and not with the ATV. In my experience with HDMI, problems like these are almost always a product of the switch.

  • Mac mini display is flicking via HDMI to DVI adapter and DVI cable

i have received mac mini server (mid 2011) recently. mac mini is connecting the display via HDMI port using DVI cable with a HDMI to DVI adapter.
the display shows constant flicking. white dots/lines show randomly. it is like those signal noise when watching analog TV.
the same display works fine and well with macbook pro (early 2008) via DVI port.
    please help. please advise.

So you know the display is working.
It seems to me you have a few possible problems.
    1 HDMI-DVI cable is bad
    2 DVI-cable is bad
3 Connections between cables or computer or monitor are bad.
4 HDMI port on the computer is bad.
I assume you've tried #3, and re-connected cables and wiggled inputs.  So then try replacing 1 and then replacing 2 which are cheaper fixes than replacing/fixing 4.........
FYI, I'm connect my mac mini using the same setup you describe, with no issues....also inspect the cable ends carefully to look for any problems.

  • Computer to projector via HDMI = static/flashing blue computer/no signal

    Hi..
So I have been using my late 2012 Mac Book Pro with a mini display  to HDMI adapter to my projetcor. Over the past few months the quality started to decline, and would have little static blips for a second when watching something. Most recently the projector can't find the signal or mayeb will static blip ir flash the screen up for a second. The computer just blinks the blue screen. I replaced the HDMI chord. Is this an adapter problem or is something wrong with my mini display port?
    Thanks!

    Hi, newvoguerecords.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here is a great article that provides some great troubleshooting steps for this issue.
No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering
    Check connections
When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:
    Monitor and Display Adapter Table
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolutionStart by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.

I cannot get the video output from the HDMI to work. I have been using DVI to DVI and replaced the cable with HDMI, however only get a "no signal" message when I try to. I have adjusted the input type on the monitor to HDMI but nothing is being displayed. Is there anything I need to do to output video on HDMI (I assume it should happen just by plugging in)? I haven't had a chance to test the monitor on another PC as yet, but this will be my next option.
    Any suggestions welcome.

Yes, I initially set it up with the HDMI as the only connection, but I also tested having both DVI and HDMI connected at the same time - in this case it detects the model number of the monitor through HDMI and gives me the option for extended desktop etc - however, if I try selecting duplicate screens and then cycle through the input types on the monitor, when it gets to HDMI the screen is just black.
I'll swap the monitor with my TV when I get back home tonight and see what the results are then.
On other thing issue (probably unrelated) is I get noticeable ghosting, especially when scrolling down webpages (dark text leaves a white silhouette) - I'm using the same DVI cable and monitor that I was on XP, the only difference being the OS and the graphics card.

    Hey @Davidm123 ,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with poor video output to your projector.
According to the product page you have linked, the projector has a native resolution of 320 x 240. This would likely explain the poor video output.
You should be able to confirm the resolution settings in the Screen Resolution menu of Windows by right clicking on your Desktop and selecting Screen Resolution.
    Thanks.

  • My apple tv3 is connected via LAN to the Internet. Ipad 2 will not mirror.

Can I only mirror being on the same wifi network as my Apple TV or is there a work around so that I can still use my LAN for better Internet connectivity yet allow ipad connection thru AirPlay to stream and mirror to my tv?

no airplay is over lan not a point to point connection
if it was then changing between 1 appeltv and another or a shared itune lib on a computer would be painful slow

  • After updating to 4.4.2 sound via hdmi has disappeared from non iTunes content. Why?

I initially upgraded to 4.4 then to 4.4.1 and found that only Itunes TV shows would play a 5.1 surround sound the rest of the content ie Movies was just stereo even though it has an AC3 5.1 option with it.
My setup is Apple TV 2 connected via HDMI to an Onkyo Receiver and then connected from the receiver to th Samsung LED TV.
Whilst on 4.3 this all worked fine. I have tried switching the sound through all the dolby options Yes, No and Auto and this has made zero difference. I guess I may well be having to downgrade to 4.3 again unless somebody can point me to where I am going wrong.
    Regards
    Steve

So I think that my situation agrees with that. It seems like it is a question of tagging of content if itunes tv episodes eg Hawaii 50 pays OK with dolby and sounds great, yet my own movies which are ripped from my own personal DVDs no longer play the Dolby track. Does anybody know if this is the case?

  • 2560x1600 via HDMI? Dell U3011 monitor.

Connected my new Macbook 12 Retina to my Dell U3011 (30" 2560x1600 native) via the Apple USB-C Digital AV adapter and HDMI.  The max resolution I can set is 1920x1200.  On the display settings page on my Macbook, it's set to 60hz and there's no option to lower it to 30hz.  Any ideas?

Bravo!  It never occurred to me to try HDMI to DVI.  It works!  I got 2560x1600 at 60Hz via HDMI to DVI (single-link).
    So, in summary...
    via HDMI - max 1920x1200 60hz
via HDMI to DP - does not work
via HDMI to DVI - max 2560x1600 60hz

First, make sure your TV is tuned to display the correct input signal. Most TVs have several inputs (multiple HDMIs, cable connections, RCA etc) so double-check that you're using the correct one - HDMI1, HDMI2 or whatever is written next to the port.
I assume that you have a mini-Displayport to HDMI adaptor? If you open displays preferences, first tick the box that says "show display preferences in menu bar" then locate the menu and click Detect Displays. See if that helps.

  • "No signal" from MBP on LG TV via HDMI

    Hi everyone,
I have a 4.5 year old MBP that I want to connect to a to an LG TV via HDMI. The MBP has a DVI port and also came with a small white adapter to connect to a VGA cable. I purchased a VGA to HDMI cable and then connected the MBP to the LG TV using the Apple adapter and new cable. No matter what I try, the LG TV only shows "No Signal" on the screen. The farthest I have gotten is for the MBP to recognize the LG TV when I mirror displays. I get two panels, one with the resolutions for the MBP and the other with the resolutions for the LG TV. Nothing at all on the LG screen except for the annoying "No Signal" message.
I have tried both HDMI ports on the back of the TV and made sure that I clicked the correct one on the LG TV. I've turned both devices off and on and connected and disconnected cables in different order to try to get the TV to receive visual input from the MBP. As a matter of fact, the more time I invest in this, the worse the results. Now, when I try to connect the two devices in this way, I get nothing on my MBP except for a desktop picture and the cursor. No dock, no menu bar, no files. Nothing but the empty desktop. I have to force the MBP to shut down by holding down the button and then disconnect cables to get it to come back to life again.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? Should I try a different cable, such as a DVI to VGA, which would not require the Apple adapter?

    Hello @ShiningLights,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I have read your post on how your TV is not able to detect your HDMI connected notebook, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To ensure your system is configured correctly to connect to your TV, I recommend following this document on Connecting a Monitor, Projector or TV (Windows 8). I also suggest trying a different HDMI cord to ensure the issue is not with the cable.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

  • Macbook pro via HDMI to panasonic ae2000 projector not working.

    Hi
Last night I tried to connect my mid 2009 macbook pro to my panasonic ae2000 projector.
I have a mini dvi to hdmi adapter lead.
The macbook pro display would flicker when hdmi plugged in but the projector would not come up as a display device. (in display preferences) So I could not output signal too it.
I have used used same lead to connect to a philips tv without problem via hdmi.
    Any ideas ?
    thanks

    Hi
    I think its aprox 8 meters. (10 M max)
Its the same cable I use from my normal panasonic dvd/bluray player to the projector.
Except of course I unplugged player to plug in mac, (have used cable again without problem.)
    Interesting thought though.
Not sure I have a 2 meter cable (projector on ceiling) to see if I can plug that from mac to projector.
