i used my pinnacle video capture to digitize VHS footage last year. havent used it since until today, and now it doesnt seem to be picking up the signal. i looked for updates, nothing...wondering if maybe the newest SL update could be the problem??? ive restarted and done the exact same procedure i did last year but to no avail. any advice? thanks

You should probably contact Pinnacle.

    Jon,
What Julianne said at first about re-linking made perfect sense and I followed it easily, had actually already been there.  But in my situation now, it didn't have any effect.  The directory of folders which had already been added were still just as they were, and the outstanding balance are not in the desired position.  And the folders which had been brought in earlier today when I clicked "synchronize folder", were still missing all the metadata.
Maybe this means I need to start over, and I'm fine about doing that that, but I don't know what it takes to accomplish that.  I'm concerned now that any changes I make out of guesswork could only make the problem harder to resolve.  It just feels to me like something I did at the beginning just wasn't right, and now it's a tangle.
    Can you advise?
    Thanks,
    Gary

  • Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac

After talking with a bunch of salesmen (considering getting a DvD writer), I took the advice of someone in the Apple Store and bought a Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac to copy my laserdiscs. It was $100 before tax, and didn't do stuff I don't plan on doing anyway. I did spend another $25 to get an S-video cable.
I installed the software and connected it up to my LD. I started capturing the movie, and selected S-Video (although in the small window they showed, I didn't see any difference between that and video out. I selected a max time from a limited selection, and let it record.
After a while, I went downstairs and saw that the audio and video were not synchronized at all. I let it continue.
After a while I came down again, and the movie was finished, so I stopped it. I found the MP4 - it was in the iTunes movie directory, and played it in iTunes. I fast-forwarded it to near the end, the voice and video were way off-set.
I haven't tried burning this yet.
Quicktime player doesn't think this is a valid movie file. I selected "open with" and "other" and the recommended applications had iMovie greyed out.
Why in the world would the audio and video record at different speeds?
Do I have to buy software to edit the movie down to the correct size?
    My Mac has:
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
    SMC Version: 1.21f4
I noticed the Pinacle Video Capture program was still running, so I tried to quit it, and got a window asking for my administrator ID and passsword to allow Pinnacle Video Capture to make changes. Why?

The audio drifted out of sync because the Dazzle doesn't support locked audio. For short videos (say, under 10 minutes) this won't be very noticeable but when you capture longer videos it becomes progressively worse over time.
What do you want to do with your Laserdisk copies? Watch them on your iPod? Edit and/or burn to DVD?
A device like the Canopus ADVC-110 will do the video/audio conversion properly, keeping the audio and video in sync regardless of the length of your video. It converts to DV, not to MP4, and you would use it with iMovie or Final Cut (not iTunes). However you can export your video from iMovie or Final Cut to iPod/AppleTV formats.
The Dazzle device will not work directly with iMovie or Final Cut.
ps. If all you really want to do is transfer your Laserdisc videos to DVDs, it will be a whole lot faster & simpler to get a DVD player/recorder that has analog inputs and record directly to DVDs. There are many brands & models to choose from and many good ones are as inexpensive as the $100 you spent on the Pinnacle converter.

  • Streaming from composite video capture

I need a USB video capture device that accepts an NTSC color 480i composite signal and presents itself as a video input device that works with QuickTime (or iChat, EvoCam, etc). That last point is important: it can't depend on its own application software (except the drivers, of course) to do the recording. It must appear to the system as a video input like a camera.
Most Mac compatible capture devices I have looked at do not make this easy to figure out, and so far the few devices I have found require their own software to do the entire capture process. Does anybody have any experience or recommendations?

    Hi,
A DV Converter that is Firewire to the computer is going to be preferable for iChat.
iChat can accept USB 1.1 input from a  device with driver.
We tend to be talking USB 1.1 web cams here as many Converters don't do Drivers for USB in a form iChat can "See"
iChat can accept USB 2.0 UVC complaint Camera input as the Driver has  been there since 10.4.9 (and working with iChat).
Again you don't tend to get Converters or Camcorders with UVC Compliant software - only web cams.
I have a Hollywood Dazzle but unfortunately it no longer is fully functional. (it works only as a  Firewire Hub at present)
Pinnacle bought out Dazzle but do not support the older products and don't make anything Firewire capable themselves.
The Hollywood Dazzle had two Firewire ports and could in fact allow a camera connect by RCA connectors to be outputted to two computers.
It could also of course take Firewire from the computer back out over the RCA ones to a TV so you could see what iMovie was producing.
    iChat will accept Firewire.
That means the Original External iSight (there were three models but only mounts really changed)
Firewire CamCorders - and as has been mentioned some will act as Analogue to DV converters
There were more Firewire Web cams at one stage  but only the Fire-i seems to have survived.
If I was looking to buy another converter then a Canopus would be my choice. (Preferably something that could replicate what the Dazzle would do).

  • Black video window trying to share video from elgato video capture connected to a sony pmw-ex3 camer

    Hi,
Im trying to share video on adobe connect with "elgato video capture" usb plug in capture card, connected with a sony pmw-ex3 professional camera on a Lenovo windows 8 laptop, but the video window appears on black.
I have tried to change the resolution from low to high on the program, but it doesnt works. i´ve tried to change from panoramic to normal view size, and still dont work.
If i use the "elgato video capture" software from elgato web, the card works fine and capture video from the sony camera.
What should i do?It could be caused by screen resolution?
P.S: I have tried on a windows 7 asus laptop and it works fine.

You may need to use DVdriver along with your desired USB device. It allows your computer to see the video input as a 'webcam' and thus allows Connect to see it. Free to try, $20 to buy.

  • KT4V and Pinnacle Video Capture

I have a KT4V board. I am trying to install a Pinnacle Systems Video Capture card which comes with their Studio Deluxe system.
When I install this card the machine will not boot. I get power, but nothing displays on the monitor. I must pull the plug to turn the system off. I remove the Pinnacle card and the machine boots fine. I have worked with Pinnacle and they have sent me a new card, same problem!
This leads me to believe it is a motherboard issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

the only thing i can think of is that its in a pci slot that could be shared with say the usb or  firewire ports,do you use these, yes you are right if the machine will not boot that means major conflict.have you tryed going into the bios, and checked all the settings to make sure and it could also be a conflict with the video card

  • No signal from second video card

I'm resurrecting an ancient machine, putting Arch on it and making it useful again.
The VGA output is flakey, not working at the highest resolution my monitor can support.  And I found an old PCI video card and threw it into the machine, hoping it would be better.  Trouble is, I get no signal at all from the second card.  Nothing sent to the monitor at all.
Running lspci, I see both VGA cards:

  • Play video from video capture device

I tried fixing my running of out memory for the video buffers problem but could find a fix. I have tried code from a book and it doesn't work. I can only get the video feed to display the video from the capture device using JMStudio, so the device works fine. Maybe my coding methodology/process is incorrect.
Is there anyone out there that knows of some working code that plays live video in a window from a video capture device. Any other help regarding to displaying capture video would help. Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

I am using the Belkin USB VideoBus II and it uses the video for windows drivers (vfw), so yet it is supported. And it works when I use JMStudio to play the live feed from the capture device. Thanks for the suggestion.
I also ran the code suggested above and I still get the same errors. Thanks for your suggestions. Any other help or suggestions would be appreciated.

  • How to display YUV stream from a video card into javafx and without JMF?

    Hello,
I try to display in a player a yuv stream gotten from a video capture card.... Is there a means to perform this in javafx?
    regards

Thanks for the pointer ; unfortunately I haven't find yet the alexfromsorkoland post about the topic you mentionned.
I'll try tomorrow another way of doing...
Basically I get yuv frames from video capture card... I've to translate these into RBG frame and then convert them into images I can display at a specific rate.
We can do this by using the hidden classes of JMF like com.sun.media.codec.video.colorspace.YUV2RBG and the javax.media.util.BufferToImage.BufferToImage. I've just now to find how to build the buffer needed for the YUV2RBG :-(

  • Multi channel video capture card

Does anyone have any experience with broadcasting video from
    multichannel video capture cards?
Flash pro 8 seems to only recognize WDM drivers, which is
fine, but how does one select individual channels?
I'm guessing the WDM driver must come up as say 4 entries for
a 4 channel card. Any clues out there?
Any suggestions for a good card (4+ simulataneous streams).
I'm looking at Osprey and Videum, but no-one in flash land seems to
do multichannel video. Most seem to use webcams.

    See

Maybe that'll work for you too...

  • Webcam Video Capture/Drivers

I can't find any built-in software (eg. Windows Movie Maker) for recording video from the webcam. XP has WMM but Win7 does not?
Microsoft states that the Windows Live Movie Maker beta supports importing live video from connected video capture devices, but even this does not detect my webcam. Do I need to install the webcam drivers seperately? If so, kindly point me to the location on the web where they can be downloaded from.
    Thanks!

I got the exact same problem, video works....sound not...tried to install the drivers again but that failed on the part where you should plug in your camera and press ok.
Looks like I have a great paperweight right now...

  • Video Capture from Elgato

    Hi all,
I'm entering into the Video Production world and I'm evaluating to buy a tool to get old VHS tapes into my iMAC.
Reading on newspapers, webs, etc. I found the Video Capture product from Elgato.
Is someone using it ? How it works ? Can I consider it to enter in a professional manner into VHS to DVD conversion ?
I know that there is a similar product (Roxio easy VHS to DVD) but from a US MacWolrd video it seems that Elgato is better ?
Is someone able to comment on that ?
    Thanks
    Giancarlo

Neither of the products you mentioned is the correct product if you plan to edit the video. The Elgato Video Capture website claims: "Elgato Video Capture transfers video from a VCR and other analog video sources to your Mac in a format that is ready for iTunes®, an iPod® or iPhone™, YouTube™, and iMovie®"
None of those formats are suitable for editing. The same is true of Roxio's Easy VHS to DVD.
If you don't plan to edit the footage, then either will do. But if you do plan to edit "in a professional manner" then you'd need a DV converter like the Canopus ADVC line of products. A DV converter (or qualified DV camcorder or VTR) will convert the analog video/audio signal to a Firewire signal that can be captured on your Mac in a format that is native for most NLEs. The ADVC300 adds a TBC - further enhancing/stabilizing the analog signal.

  • Capturing live from a video mixer

We video our church services and want to make weekly DVDs of them. We have been using Final Cut Express with mixed success, but are about ready to switch to iMovie HD for several reasons.
The question is, can we capture live video from the video mixer (mixing two cameras and one computer to a single signal) to our hard drive using iMovie HD? If so, how.
    Many thanks!
    Pastor Ron Heffield (macfiveo)

First of all, if you're shooting either normal (4x3) DV or 'widescreen' DV, you'll have to select the appropriate format when you start a New Project. (..See items 6 and 7, and the accompanying pics, in my post here..)
So when you slide the little onscreen selector from the "scissors" icon to the "camcorder" icon, and then click on the camcorder icon itself to choose the name of your mixer it may show "DV-VCR" or some other device name, as it's unlikely to know the exact name of your mixer. If no name is showing, and the iMovie screen says "No Camera Connected", just quit from iMovie and then restart iMovie.
You should then see the live feed, and then just click on 'Import'.
Alternatively, instead of importing with iMovie, you might try downloading and using BTV. You can then edit that captured material with iMovie.
[..P.S: I don't think BTV, or BTV Pro, is a "universal" application, so it should work OK with your PowerPC Mac(s), but maybe not with an Intel-based Mac..]
