  • IPhone Think's I'm in Newcastle Upon Tyne

Hey there, I've got an iPhone 3GS with some location problems - it seems many other people in Belfast have the same problem!
When acquiring location data my iPhone think it is in Newcastle Upon Tyne where in reality it is in Belfast!
It happens using 3G or using a wireless router!

how do i know if it's unlocked?  i mean, i got it from the verizon store...not sure if that limits me or not.

Eversince I updated my iphone 4 to IOS 5.0.1, sometimes I get a 'No Service' or 'Searching'  signal where my network signal should be upon which I have switch the phone off then on then 'Reset all Settings' to get the phone normal again. Is  there a solution to this?

I couldn't find the edit button on my original post so I am posting an update here.
I have gone through more apps and have had good luck on all but one more.  And it's not that the app doesn't work, I am talking about the Yahoo Weather app, It works fine, but when you swipe between cities the screen lags a bit and it sometimes doesn't move between pages the way it should.  On iOS 7.1.2 it was smooth as butter but on iOS 8.0, not so much.  I will post a note in the app store to let them know.  I really like the Yahoo app better than the new stock app.
I have been going through my games and they all work fine. Angry Birds (Original and Stella), Canabalt, Minecraft, Bejeweled 2, Silly Walks, PopWords, Doodle Jump, Deep Green all seem to work just fine.
Starbucks app works as it should.
I will stop back again next week after I have had the weekend to play with it in detail and post my thoughts again.

  • I can not make IP SLA to signal SNMP traps upon timeout

    Hello team.
I want SNMP traps to be sent every time an IP SLA (ICMP) object times out. For that purpose, I carried out the following
    ip sla monitor logging traps
    ip sla monitor 1
    type echo protocol ipIcmpEcho 10.1.1.254
    timeout 1000
    frequency 15
ip sla monitor schedule 1 life forever start-time now
    snmp-server enable traps rtr
    snmp-server host 10.1.1.10 mycommunity
But no SNMP trap is sent when the IP SLA object times out. ¿ Am I missing something?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

SNMP traps for IP SLAs are handled through the system logging (syslog) process. This means that system logging messages for IP SLAs violations are generated when the specified conditions are met, then sent as SNMP traps using the CISCO-SYSLOG-MIB. The ip sla monitor logging traps command is used to enable the generation of these IP SLAs specific traps. The generation of IP SLAs specific logging messages is dependant on the configuration of the standard set of logging commands (for example, logging on). IP SLAs logging messages are generated at the "informational" system logging severity level.
The command ip sla monitor logging traps is sometime hidden and may not show with ?, so just copy and paste in global config mode and have logging on and check if any traps are generated.

  • Photoshop elements 13 and premier elements 13

I just bought Photoshop elements 13 and premier elements 13 from John Lewis in Newcastle upon Tyne. I've tried to enter the serial number on the back of the software download card at least SIX times and the serial number will not be accepted. Can anyone help?

John Lewis is a department store, and was the retailer.
Problem solved. I was typing in a 'Zero' when in fact it was a Capital 'O'. A different typeface may have helped.

  • BT Infinity HTTPS connection issues- anyone else?

    Hi all.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have been having considerable problems with HTTPS sites over the past few months - timing out, unable to make payments online with ClickSafe - Lloyds Bank, Natwest, NEXT, National Lottery. Some HTTPS sites load eventually but usually very very slowly or time out.
This issue is across all my devices - Macbook Pro, iPad Air, Samsung Tablet, Windows 8 Laptop, x3 iPhone 5.
If I switch WiFi off on my iPhone I can make payments over the mobile phone network fine but as soon as I switch WiFi on the problems occur again. I took my Laptop to a friends house and used their TalkTalk Broadband and no issues, all worked fine.
I have had 2 HH4 and now a HH5 and the problem still occurs.
I have Changed numerous settings, undertaken numerous reboots and complete resets to no avail.
I have enabled firewalls and disabled firewalls, changed MTU and numerous other possible fixes, but again none have worked.
I have paid for BT Tech Expert support who have been very helpful  and always called back when they have said they would but they do not know what the problem is and are still working on it. Next call on Monday night.
I found this very long thread starting in 2011 and ending in February 2013, where BT customers were experiencing the exact same problems in the South West of England and it turned out to be a network issue that was resolved but it does not explain how it was resolved!

To try changing DNS server on your Windows 8 laptop, see this Microsoft note.
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows8_1-networking/how-to-change-ipv4-dns-server-...
You can use 8.8.8.8 as they suggest, as that is Google public DNS.
If that fixes the problem on the laptop, it would point to a problem with BTs DNS servers.

  • Receive GSM signals using USRP 2920

    Hello every one
I'm working on cognitive radio project on the GSM band 890 MHZ–915MHZ uplink 935–960 downlink and I use energy detection technique for spectrum measurement so I'm questioning for the minimum power the usrp can detect note that the power of signals for downlink (-60dbm -100dbm ) and for uplink (-70 dbm to -90 dbm)
    Mohamed Hantera

    Hi Mohamed,
The USRP's receiver senstivity (i.e. minimum detectable signal) is dependent upon a variety of factors including carrier frequency, modulation, error correction coding, data rate, error rate, and receiver noise bandwidth. Using higher throughput data rates such as 320kb/s versus 32kb/s will negatively affect the sensitivity. Error correction techniques such as Hamming code versus reed-solomon codes for example will also affect the performance and so on. In essence, the only universal measurement that is not dependent on the aforemtentioned factors is the receiver noise figure. The receiver's sensitivity can be derived with the preceding info, and noise figure which, per the specifications, is between 5 to 7 dB for the USRP-2920.

  • Signal when sub-vi is done

    Hello,
One of the states in my state machine runs a sub-vi that takes a few minutes to complete. I would like to advance to the next state AFTER the sub-vi has completed running. Is there an event or signal that occurs upon vi completion? If so, how can I access this signal? Thanks.

    mtber,
Might be best to post a simplified version of your program to see what your trying to do. If you really need an event fired, and I think the previous answers are examples of more than likely why you might not, you could register your own user events and programatically fire them. There are examples listed in the "Help" menu for this. Also if you are dynamically running your sub vi there is a "Wait till Done" boolean setting.
    Cheers,

  • Best practice for Logical OR pre-condition evaluation

    Greetings,
I'm finding TS doesn't have basic features for decision making (imp) for execution. Any recommendations are welcomed and appreciated. Please see below scenario.
I'd like to execute setup steps (custom step types) for a signal generator based upon the user selected "Test".
To keep it simple for the signal generator let's say we have the following steps:
Set Freq | Set PWR lvl | Set Modulation Type | Set Modulation ON/OFF | Set RF Power ON/OFF
For User Selected Tests let's say we have Test A(0) | Test B(1) | Test C(2) (Test  A & C requires Modulation, B does not)
    Here's my issue:
    I can't get SET Freq | SET PWR lvl | Set RF Power ON/OFF to execute a pre-condition setup for evaluating Logical OR's. (i.e. locals.TestSelected ==0||1||2)
    Same for Set Modulation Type | Set Modulation ON/OFF (i.e locals.TestSelected ==0||2)
Thanks in advance for any guidance provided.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Just want to clarify, there seems to be a misunderstanding about the difference between bitwise OR (i.e. the | operator) and logical OR (i.e. the || operator). Bitwise OR results in the combination of all of the bits which represent an integer stored as binary, while logical OR (i.e. what you really want in this case) results in a True, non-zero, value (usually 1) if either operand is non-zero.
Also, the == operator has a higher precedence than either the bitwise OR or logical OR operators.
    So what this means:
    locals.TestSelected ==0||1||2
is to give a result of True (i.e. 1) if either locals.TestSelected ==0, 1 is non-zero, or 2 is non-zero. Since 1 and 2 are always non-zero that expression will actually always result in a True value.
Similarly, although the following will likely give you the behavior you want:
    (locals.TestSelected == 0) | (locals.TestSelected == 1) | (locals.TestSelected == 3)
That's not really doing what you are probably thinking it does. It's actually getting the value True (i.e. 1) for each of the sub-expressions in parethesis and then bitwise OR'ing them together. Since the result for the == operand is always either 0 or 1, this ends up giving the same result as logical OR (i.e. the || operator), but what you really want in this case is logical OR and for other expressions using bitwise OR when you mean logical OR might give you incorrect results. So, you should really be using something like the following:
    Locals.TestSelected == 0 || locals.TestSelected == 1 || locals.TestSelected == 3
The parenthesis don't really matter in this case (so can be left out, but also doesn't hurt anything so you can leave them in if you prefer) because the == operator has a higher precedence than the || operator so all of the == operations will be done first.
    Hope this helps clarify things,
    -Doug

  • Recent upgrade removed kde juk and k3b activity(solved)

    How do I fixit?

    pierluigi;
The file you referred to has the previous kdelibs and kdemultimedia as well as the new versions.
I assume I could force the old versions into their slots but then don't know what would then occur because I have no clue as to dependencies.  Several packages were downloaded at the same time and I assume they could well be dependencies.

  • Setting up a mixed g and n network on 1st Extreme + newer Express?

I have a first gen Airport Extreme 802.11n (flat white, first one they made before adding on gigabyte ethernet). It is great for my needs. It goes into a cable modem. The Extreme handles all routing and the rest. The modem is just a modem that, BTW, Comcast forces me to rent because I use their phone service and customers cannot buy a separate “Voip” specific to Comcast for use with a cable modem they already own. So a perfectly good Moto DOCIS 3.x modem I own sits idle…)
    Anyhow…
I had a first gen Airport Express (very limited in capability). It died. So I got a new Airport Express 802.11n (flat white) about a year ago. I hooked that up mostly to use on a printer and for travel. I made it part of my main network. It “extends” it but, my house/property is very small. A large Wi-Fi network is not needed but, seemed only option to be on network and print.
Recently, I added yet another device to my Wi-Fi network. A small router for an AV receiver. It was, alas, 802.11g. I also have two other g devices and maybe a third and fourth (I’ll have to check, both I rarely use. One is unplugged as I rarely use it and the other is hooked up to an internet TV that is rarely used).
All of these devices worked great until I turn on my old Mac Mini, which I think is also 802.11g. Before that AV receiver router was added, it was fine. But now, Wi-Fi on it is basically gone. Except, when it isn’t!
For some reason, my network has decided that the Mini should connect via the Express. Since other g’s are on that, I think that is the problem. I don’t see how it happens but, sometimes, it connects with the older Extreme. When that happens, it seems to work great! Note, I did try using just he Express in place of the Extreme hooked up to the cable modem for the entire network but, it could not handle it. The Extreme can.
Since both the Extreme and Express are similar as 802.11n Wi-Fi routers except, the Express says something like revision 1 when I look at it on iOS Airport Utility (is it “better” in some way?) I think the solution is telling the Extreme and Express to only accept certain devices.
How can I tell each router to accept only certain devices? The old Extreme has one way (it seems) of doing this while the Express has another. But neither is precisely what I think I need to do. The settings for this are under the Wireless Options button under the Wireless tab in Airport Utility (latest, OSX). But if you can answer this question with any knowledge, you know that!
I’d just buy a new Extreme which, I think, allows radio signal frequency segregation (or whatever this is called) but, alas, these two Wi-Fi routers work great (except for the Mini) and I’d like to use them until one actually dies.

You still refuse to discuss data versus radio signal.
So, I guess that is that. You have no proof to back up your contention as neither do I.
Granted, from the g device to my Express, it is at g speeds. But, I contend, that once that g radio signal is converted back to data only (now at speed of light) inside the Express, the Express sends that data, via the exclusive “Extended network” connection, to the Extreme, at n speed. It has to as the Extreme will only take n speed.
Sure, it is splitting hairs, if I am right. I am not saying I am. But my idea (before our branch debate on g and n signal versus data upon arrival at the Express) is an interesting way to force old g clients to use only one router. But to force those pesky g clients to use the newer simultaneous dual band Express by setting the Extreme to 5GHz g only was a new solution for me. It worked too. In that case, it is not about minute speed gains or losses but simply letting the g clients have their one party at the Express, which can handle them better when part of an extended network with an older, original Extreme.
It is also far better to just have one Wi-Fi router as, adding Airport routers in an extended network, slows things down 60% or less and requires more "data management overheard", according to Apple*.
It is interesting that they said data management overhead and not radio signal management?
Alternatively, using the “Roaming network” method where the two stations are linked via Ethernet, is an even better option.

  • APX Intermittently Operational (Flashing Amber Light)

For several months I have enjoyed wireless conectivity through my AirPort Express connected to my DSL router. When attempting to connect the other day I was unable to access the network eventhough I had full signal strength. Upon examining the AirPort Express I noticed the indicator light flashing amber. I tried everything in my limited bag of tricks to get it up an running again, but it will only work intermittently for short bursts before returning to the flashing amber light.
    Here's what I have tried...
    Soft Reset
I reset the base station through the AirPort Admin Utility.
    Hard Reset
I reset the base station by pressing the button until the indicator light flashed and used the AirPort Setup Assistant to reconfigure the station.
Turned It Off - DHCP Lease Renewal
I turned off the DSL router, the AirPort Express, and the computer overnight.
    Changed Firmware
I loaded an earlier version of the Airport Express firmware after reading on the forum that it solved some of the problems with the AirPort Extreme.
I am able to access the internet via the ethernet port, so I dont suspect any problems with my DSL router setup. I have a strong signal and dont suspect any interference.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Hi andrewlrogers and welcome to Discussions,
Seems you have tried a lot of different solutions. But have you done a Software Update for you OSX. The quickest way is to click on the Closed Apple in the very top Left of your screen and Select Software Update.
After this update you might have to reboot your computer. Also, you might have to do a Power Cycle your Modem and your Airport Express. Maybe you might have to do another Hard Reset to your Airport Express, following Hard Reset instructions in this article: Airport Express Reset
hope this helps and let us know what happens....

  • Home music recording- is the Mac Pro better for this than an iMac?

I know it seems like a daft question but if you were to recommend a Mac for a DECENT home studio and money were (within reason) nearly no object WHAT Mac would you recommend? I always believed that a good sized desktop would be better than an iMac or a MacBook Pro (which is what I have been using for just a hobby home recording set-up) but is this a myth?
Please advise because the Mac Pro looks SCARY. I mean- the options are vast but what DO I NEED as opposed to want? Thank you kindly for reading.

I guess there is nothing wrong with the set-up except that the MacBook Pro is mine and the musicians need their own as I need mine for work.
Ah, I see. I think an iMac should be sufficient. Just be sure to get more RAM than the stock 1GB. Apple's prices on RAM are pretty severe compared to other vendors, so I'd recommend adding RAM after purchase. If you search the iMac forum for "RAM UK", you should find recommendations on reliable vendors. Don't go with lowest price; there's nothing that can cause you fits with a computer system more than flakey RAM, so you want a vendor with a good reputation for quality. I'd suggest bumping the iMac to the maximum 4GB. As to screen size, I tend to prefer having two screens rather than one big one - you can put palettes on the second monitor - so if it's a choice and desk space is sufficient, consider a 20" iMac and a second 17" or 20" screen to go with it.
If you reckon the interface is enough to do the mic justice and that Logic Express or Pro would do when the musicians know and love Cubase then I am happy to help them learn more Mac-based software and get that instead as it is also cheaper and looks like it would make more sense to ME.
Unless they're wedded to Cubase, I'd think that Logic Express should work quite well. You may all want to take a trip to an Apple reseller and take a look at it.
Unless there is a reason to "upgrade" the interface I guess that is one less item to acquire
An upgrade would seem logical only if the Safire isn't giving the quality you want or there aren't enough inputs.
I'd call your recommendation but I am in the UK and will probably talk to the nice folk at Dolphin Music in Newcastle as that is where I got the interface.
I wasn't sure where you were. If you are located in or near Newcastle-On-Tyne, you can find a list of authorized resellers here, or if you're near Manchester or Sheffield or don't mind taking a paddle down, you can drop by an Apple Store. You can then perhaps preview Logic Express before you decide. You might want to call before you make a special trip just to make sure your dealer can indeed demo LE.
Final recommendation; get really good microphones. Garbage in, garbage out, as they say, and having the right microphone, one that's suited for the instrument that's being recorded, is vital. The Neumann is of course high quality, but if you haven't already purchased, check around. You can find really good mics for less than Neumann charges; unless things have changed, you pay a bit of a premium for their reputation. AKG used to make really good mics, quite well suited for piano and acoustic guitar in particular, and there are no doubt others as well (my knowledge of specific models is rather out of date).
    Cheers.
