No signal on TV, sometimes?!

hi,my samsung tv seems to struggle to get the Apple TV signal. i have it plugged in via HDMI wire, if i unplug the hdmi wire and put it back in it works fine and appears on screen, but when i am just generally turning the apple tv on, it cannto find the signal, or takes ages. i have reset the apple tv which hasnt fixed the prob. my tv is capable of 1080p, which the apple tv is set too. can anyone pls make any suggestions?

Hi, how did you solve it? Both my Samsung LCD TV-s (a 32" and a 40" Full HD TV) looses the HDMI signal when I resume Apple TV from sleep. I have to reboot Apple TV to get display back correctly. It didn't use to do it, but after the latest update (I think), it constantly does it.

  • I updated to IOS 5 and now my signal strength drops sometimes clear to zero when I open an app.

I updated my Iphone 4 with the IOS 5 operating system.  When I use an application, including the phone app, my signal strength bars will drop from 4 or 5 bars to 1 bar and sometimes to no bars and searching for a signal.  When I exit the app the bars return tto what they were before.  I have an AT&T plan that operates in Mexico which is where I am now.  In Mexico it operates on the TelCell network.  Before updating the op system I had no problems with the signal strength dropping when I used an app.

    Hello timfromharris,
Have you gone to your date and time settings and verified that "set automatically" has been checked?
If you don't know where to go, it's Settings -> General -> Date and Time.
    Good luck!

  • Strength signal not stable sometimes

I have iPhone 4s for more than 2 years and I didn't have any problem related to my carrier (signal, 3g data, calls etc...)
last week I got my new 5S with iOS 7.0.4 installed and I upgraded to the latest version before 2 days.
I have noticed some annoying problem about the strength signal.
sometimes when I turn the 3G Data toggle on the signal decreased to 1 bar and then write "No Signal", after couple seconds the signal is back to 3-4 bars with 3G data turned ON.
the second problem is that I can be in one place and the signal will be 4-5 bars and after few minutes It'll be 1-2 bars.
What is the chances that is hardware issue?

Hi, I have the same problem. I have the 9800 Torch... this is the second unit as the first was sent away for warranty.
I'm currently getting intermittent reception. The phone goes from SOS only to full service. I've taken pictures of this. This has been occuring in my bedroom, so I know I'm in a good reception area and the tower in no more than 1-2 km away. I'm also on Telstra Next G, which has the best reception here in Australia.
This is issue has only started, as I have ahd this phone for a few months now and hadn't happened before. The first phone didn't do it either... In saying this, when in a marginal area fro reception, the BB Torch is the only phone to have reception. So the radio is strong, just intermittent.
I turned the phone off and on and it didn't fix it. I did a battery pull, and that didn't fix it. It has the current firmware, has not been dropped or abused.
I'm hoping BB can fix these problems, as It would be terrible if we all had to go back to an iPhone or Android, there would be no variety in the market.
The 9800 Torch needs more processor power and internal memory, it's way too slow. The Torch is as slower as my old 3G iPhone which is 2 years old.
BB please fix, as I'm keen to stay BB....

  • Even though my signal is good, sometimes I can click on a voicemail and it will play other times it won't.  If someone calls my voicemail but doesn't actually leave a message will this give me a voicemail that I cannot play?

    Help with voicemail please

You can't listen to a voicemail if the caller didn't leave you one.

  • No HDMI signal from apple tv

I recently purchased an ATV (in the USA - I live in Europe) and I notice that ATV doesn't seem to 'connect' to my TV, ie. the tv consistently shows 'no HDMI signal', or will sometimes show part of the relevant ATV menu screen momentarily and then disappear. The remedy is to reboot ATV or disconnect and reconnect the power cable. Does anyone have a remedy for this?

I have the same issue. My Apple TV works when I reboot (unplug/replug) it. But if I attempt to change the resolution, put it on standby, or if I switch to another device and return to it later, I get an intermittent signal. Every few 4-5 seconds the menu/screensaver appears and disappears pretty quickly. If I reboot and watch a movie immediately it works fine.
My TV is a Olevia 542i LCD HDTV.

Anyone have any ideas? Could the AppleTV be defective?

  • Warning msg "Signal is not contiguous"

    Hi,
I used NI FGen to generate a sine wave to pump into a circuit (under test) and use NI Hi-speed Digitizer to capture the output of the circuit.
The captured signal goes through a low pass filter.  This warning message appear at the filter when it is Run continuously.
'Run Once' does not have problem.
Has this got to do with synchronizing  the 2 modules in the PXI system or is it a matter of wrong sample rates.
I have searched Help and it mentioned using TClk to synchronize the 2 modules.
How do you use TClk in Signal Express?
How to solve this warning msg?
    Someone please help.....thanks.
    Regards,
    SeeMist

    Hello,
I am glad to hear that you resolved the warning issue.  In regard to the other project, are you just interesting in generating the signal once?  What is the lay out of the steps in the project for both the FGEN and SCOPE?  Is the FGEN set to finite or continous generation mode?  How is the SCOPE step setup in the Execution Control tab?
    SeeMist wrote:
Currently (another project) I use the NI-FEN step to generate a signal from a .hws file (a 25khz burst signal).
It works fine by itself and the "Scope Soft Front Panel" (SFP) is always good at capturing the generated signal.
(The output of generator is externally connected to the input of the Scope).
However, after I closed the SFP and inserted NI-Scope Acquire step in Signal Express, I was not always successful in capturing the signal generated.  Sometimes okay, sometimes not.
The error occurred at the FGen step : "Finite Generation timeout"
Do I have to initialise or there is a problem with my setting?  Trigger or synchronization problem?
The setting of the FGen remains the same in both tests.
    The NI-Scope: Trigger = Edge ; Sample rate =100MS/s; Record Length =5000

  • My signal is not working it keeps saying I have full signal then searching!!!

My signal is not working it keeps saying I have full signal then searching!!

Hello my fellow iPhone 4s users...
i have been going around the web for solution to the lost signal. Upon further investigation and diagnosis with my iPhone and other iPhone with a combination of chnage of sim between phones, resetting the network, hard reset and restoring a few times, it still persist. My analysis is that the iOS 5 >Settings>General>Cellular Data is the culprit. It does not have an option of switching between Edge and 3G (unlike the previous iOS lower than 5.0 or 5.0.1) It always stays on 3G. Now comes the trickiest part of my analysis. For networks having mid to low signal in areas, the updated dual antenna of the iPhone 4s switches automatically between 3G and normal signal. However, since it has no option to go down to Edge, it "automatically revert back to the original signal status". Sometimes from a very strong signal to a low signal area, it shows full bar of signal. but when you try to send an sms or make a call, it fails.
    Conclusion:
I believe Apple has been digging deep with their softwate developers and checking the hardware of the iPhone 4s. And if my analysis is correct, they may have to incorporate the option of EDGE and 3G again.
    Temporary Solution:
For low reception/signal areas, actually NONE... we have to wait for the update by Apple.
So either use our iPhone 4s as an expensive iPod on poor reception/signal areas and transfer our sim cards temporarily to another phone or have your phone put to AIRPLANE MODE on-off again.

  • Airport signal is lost multiple times throughout the day

i have a wifi network at my house consisting of my airport extreme router, my dad's PC (which is wired to it) and 2 iMacs. the only problem seems to be with my computer though. while my wifi signal remains strong sometimes i'll lose the ability to be online. safari will stop loading pages and any messenger convo's i have will be cut off due to loss of connection. when i check my network settings it says that i'm receiving a strong signal. the only way i've been able to deal with it is to turn the airport off from my computer and turn it on again. then it runs fine or at least until it decides to stop sending a signal.
any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Is the computer near a television, DVD player or audio video receiver? Microwave oven? Keep investigating. Interference is hard to pin down.
Download Air Radar. You can use it free for a few weeks. Use the application to display all of the visible networks in your area. It's also possible that there are "hidden" networks in your area. Can't do much about that or the new security system that one of the neighbors installed.
You will see your network and others in the display. Look for the channel that your wireless is on and compare it to the other channels in use. If your network is on the same channel or a close adjacent channel to another network, this can be a source of interference. Post back if you need instructions on how to change your channel. Ideally, you want to be as far away from other channels as possible. If there are "hidden" networks around you, all you can do is try a few different settings to see if that helps.
If you have a desktop or the computer usually stays in the same place, there is nothing better than an ethernet connection. If you can't run the wires to the router, then take a look at a pair of ethernet powerline adapters that use the wiring in your home to transmit an ethernet signal. This will be a faster and more reliable connection than wireless.
Please post back on your findings.

  • (Bug) Google Talk on webOS 2.1 doesn't re-login after signal loss

    Device: Palm Pre 2
    WebOS version: 2.1.0
Issue:  Google Talk does not automatically re-login after signal loss (and sometimes gets into a state that it cannot re-login at all)
Description:  Whenever I lose signal (go in the elevator, into tunnels on the subway, etc...) I get logged out of Google Talk. On Palm Pre + with 1.4.5 on ATT i would never have a problem as it would always log me back in automatically as soon as (or shortly after) signal was found again, whether wifi or 3g/edge.   But on Palm Pre 2 with webos 2.1, it stays logged off.  I can manually set status to Available to re-login, but its really annoying and clearly used to work in the past.  Additionally, in certain circumstances I get disconnected and CANNOT manually log back in.  I try to set status to Available but nothing happens, no spinner, no nothing.  The only way to get this to work again is if I do a restart (or Luna restart).  I've notice this happens at my school where 3g connectivity is really poor and frequently I don't have any.  Instead I connect to the school's wifi network which sometimes disconnects.  After losing connectivity too many times and/or too many login failures, it just stops allowing me to re-login, even manually, until I restart.
This is really annoying and is a regression as it used to work in 1.4.5.  Any ideas how to fix it and/or if a fix is being worked on would be greatly appreciated.

  • Component - Losing Signal Frequently

*I'm not using HDMI because when they installed HD FiOS on my TV, they said that HDMI wasn't working so they put in the component cables.*
I have been losing signal quite often, sometimes several times in the duration of a half-hour show. It can't be the weather because 1.) FiOS shouldn't be affected by the weather and 2.) this happens rain or shine. When the set-top box comes back on, my TV says that the box is in stand-by mode and to press MENU to watch television. It's become extremely irritating.
    Thanks for any help.

same thing with me they said that HDMI cable wasn't working and said that they had to use component cables. Now Tonite i was watching TV an between 7pm and 9:30 the HD DVR cut out about 15 times....Must say I am royally upset!!!!
Does anyone know how to fix this issue???

  • Difference between signal strenght and quality?

    Hi all,
    As per Cisco documentation
Low RF signal strength does not mean poor communication.
Low signal quality does mean poor communications.
If someone can explain me difference  between signal strength and signal quality?
As per my home AP  i can see that signal strengh is measured in numbers like 50 %  or 100%.
But what is signal quality and how me measure it ?
    thanks
    mahesh

    Great question ....
First, lets look at the concept of signal quality and strength ... Suppose for a minute you are front row at a rock concert right next to the speakers. The sounds is so loud you cant hear anything but screaming. This is an exmaple of a loud signal but poor quality.
As for measuring the signal and noise or should we say quality of signal. Vendors sometimes give you a % or dB scale when grading the signal. You really cant make headers or tails from the % scale becuase each vendor has different % measurements. But check your ap, becuase you may have the option to change it to dB.
Lets look at dBm. Right now my client is showing:
    Signal -59 dBm
    Noise -98 dBm
The dB scale is simple. The lower the dB the LOUDER the signal. You will see -59 of signal is good, in fact I am about 50 feet from the AP. If you are right under the ap you will get like a -30ish. Noise, we dont want to be loud, so we want to see noise at -100. The lower the noise dB the louder the noise is.
So back to out example above. Next to the speaker, you are showing say -30dBm but your noise may be like -70dBm...
    Does this make sense?
You normally like to see your signal no higher than -67 for voice or -76 for data. And your noise should be higher than -90.

  • Signal distortion in Voltage Measurement

    Hello,
I am using PCI-MIO-16E4 for voltage measurement from a Single phase
voltage supply panel. I use CB-68LP as connector cable. When I see the
output signal using Scope it is giving exact value and pure sinusoidal,
but when it comes to LabView 7.1, the magnitude is correct and the
sinusoidal is distorted. The siganal is not continuous and looks like
triggered pulse in the middle for every cycle. So, the signal breaks
goes up like a sqaure pulse and comes down, sinusoidal continues. I
donno if there is any problem with the triggering options which i
didnot selected. I am very new to labView. The example file I am using
(obtained from example finder/DAQMx/Voltage) is attached below.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hello Serges,
Thanks for your response and suggestions. Let me explain my problem more clearly. I am using channel 6 now for measuring Voltage so I have connected wires to pins 25,58 on CB-68LP from the transducer output. These numberI obtained from LV itself from connection diagram and also from other thesis works and weblinks.
I am getting the right signal intially for sometime when i see both in the scope and in the LV using our DAQ with the above specified connections. It is same for all other channels. I am measuring in the differential mode only (Can you suggest me if this mode is wrong and where to change the setting in 'vi' attached) and verified it in the test panel too. After a couple of minutes the signal is getting distorted in LV as well as in MAX also as attached above.  But in the scope it show the same sinusoidal without any kind of distortion. I feel the problem could be with the Connector block or connecting wire or my LabView file. The DAQ card is really new which we got 1 week back from NI. I will attach the right signal preview with this post.

  • Airport express for airplay only, not extending network

I have just bought an airport extreme and airport express.
The extreme is plugged into modem, and the express is in my living room, plugged into some older speakers.  The point of the express is to airplay-enable these speakers, not to extend the network.
I've got both set up and they're working, except that the audio drops out of the airplay every so often, in light of which a couple of questions:
    1.  Even though I the point of the express is not to extend my network coverage, I guess it is doing that by default anyway?
    2.  Isn't a downside of that that accessing the network via the express will be slower than accessing it via the extreme directly?
    3.  Also, might the reason the express drops the audio be that other devices are using it to access the network?  If so, and this is the BIG QUESTION:  is there a way of continuing to use the express to airplay-enable my speakers, but not allow devices to use it for anything other than airplay?
    thanks lots
    d

is your point that devices near the Express but far from the Extreme will tend to receive a weaker signal since they're not permitted to use the Express (which in Join mode is restricted to communicating with the device that's streaming music to it) hence must communicate with the Extreme, which is some distance away?
    Yes
had thought that communicating with the Extreme rather than the Express might be faster (provided the Extreme is close enough for an adequate signal) since the Extreme is simply a faster bit of kit, but you've already said that might not be right -- I'll do a speed test.
You can make the argument either way that you want, but you won't know what the actual results will be in any given situation until you try things out in your own particular installation. In other words, there is no one "right" way to do things that will be correct in every situation.
I get five bars indicating good wifi signal strength but sometimes (as now) very very sluggish internet connection.  I thought the Extreme/Express combo might solve that but not really.
There are so many things that can affect wireless performance at any given time, that it is almost impossible to list them all. And, things are changing all the time.....cordless phones, other wireless networks, radio and TV broadcasts, wireless security systems.
As far as the AirPort Express is concerned, remember that it can only "extend" the quality of signal that it receives from the AirPort Extreme.  In other words, if you have an AirPort Extreme at one end of the house and an AirPort Express at the other end, the Express will receive a poor signal to extend.
In this example, the correct location of the Express would be a point that is about half way between the AirPort Extreme and the other end of the house.
The way to solve the wireless strength issue with an AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express.......is connect both devices together using a wired Ethernet cable connection. Then, you can locate the Express exactly where it is needed, since there is no signal loss in a wire......and a lot of signal loss whenever a wireless signal must pass through a wall or other obstruction.

  • Airport / Virgin Superhub

Hi everyone - can some please explain to me the benefits of getting an Airport Extreme/Express/Time Capsule if I already have a Virgin Superhub?
How do the two products co-exist, exactly?
Our Virgin Superhub is located in an upstairs bedroom and the signal downstairs can sometime be less than perfect (certainly not 100mb as advertised...)
We have in our house a MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, 2 x iPads, 2 x iPhones and an Apple TV device. They don't all run at once but there's certainly quite a demand for bandwidth at times.
Should I notice a considerable performance difference if I were to purchase one of the Airport products? What would I need to do to the Virgin Superhub to get the best strength?
Networks have never been my strongpoint...

    Hi
Once you have put the superhub into modem mode, you connect the AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule to it by ethernet cable. The best location would be to place the router in the middle of the house to get the best signal, but you will be limited by whether you can or happy to run the ethernet cable back to the superhub.
I believe the new AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule broadcast a stronger signal than the Airport Express - whether you will need to extend will depend on the strength of your signal and this will be affected by construction and background noise. I suggest you start with the one device and then use something like Inssider to measure the strength of the signal in various locations around the house. If you need to extend the network you could use an airport express but bear in mind you lose some wifi overhead so you lose some speed. The best set up is to connect the device you use to extend to the original router by ethernet cable - this is called a roaming network. Search on Airport and roaming on the apple site to get a detailed overview of networking.
The AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule are probably the way to go, but at a cost. As you say Time Capsule has the added advantage of the backup facility. The other key advantage is that the WAN and LAN ports are 1Gb, the Airport Express is only 100mbps qso if you use ethernet you will be constraining yourself.
    Hope this helps.
