No signal or poor reception in nyc

so the building i work verizon phones are useless inside. no reception at all not. maybe others have the issue in buildings in nyc

We are using Verizon Wireless family plan, and we suffer from poor reception both at home and at work, here at South Hackensack NJ, just 10 minutes away from NYC, one of Verizon's strongest markets. We usually have 1 bar or 2, if we're lucky, and data is usually only 3G, or very slow 4G. It's been like this since we switched to Verizon last year. If we didn't have ongoing contracts, I would've definitely switched to another carrier (T-Mobile and AT&T have excellent reception for both data and voice).
I hope someone looks into this problem we're having at zip code 07606.
Thanks.

note 3 poor reception, dropped calls, no signal, 3g not 4g. out of service area message at home this is crazy. other phones have no problem,

Wow! That's quite the large area, Nicki05. The service along Interstate 65 is pretty strong in general. Do you use any type of case on your phone? Has your phone been replaced through your warranty when you gave our Tech Support a call?

Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion p6144f Desktop Computer. According to the specs, your wireless card supports two (2) antenna connections: 2 internal posts to connect an internal or external antenna. Please verify that there is an antenna or two connected to the 802.11 wireless card. Also, if you are attempting to use 5GHz, consider using 2.4GHz instead. I have tried using 5GHz and the signal doesn't travel very far (example; router down stairs, simultaneous 2.4GHz and 5GHz... phone upstairs, 6 bars on 2.4GHz, 1 bar on 5GHz)

  • IPhone 6 poor reception fixed yet?

I just wanted to know if Verizon has figured out why using Voice and Data results in poor reception quality?
I bought an iPhone 6 and returned it days after because when I enabled Voice and Data over LTE often the best I could get was 1x while trying to use data on a call, and I would often be on 3G most every where. When I switched it back to Data over LTE only, I would get 2 bars, 3 at most. I never sent the command to show the cell signal in db's. I should have.
I have access to a ton of iPhones through work, so I grabbed a couple both Verizon and At&t, and ran some non scientific test. Results were, At&t never had a problem, but of the 3 verizon versions, all of them exhibited the same reception problem. So, it can't be just a bad phone...
Reading the internets, it seems people say to solve the problem just use LTE for data only, replace the phone, and replace the sim. I am sorry that is an unacceptable solution, as I need both data and voice at the same time.
It is not a network coverage issue, as I live within 15 miles from Verizon World Headquarters, and I am neighbors with the CEO (sudo neighbors, live in the same general area)...
Using my Verizon LG G2 with VoLTE, not a single problem. Signal strength is very strong, have always been able to get calls, no dropped calls, etc...
    So, any solution yet verizon?
    Thanks....

    second part...
So, that $500 million and then some check from Uncle Sam to upgrade the infrastructure went to what...also, i would really love to understand why I get charged for text messages (have an old plan, unlimited data though) since it cost ABSOLUTELY nothing to send a text message, its tacked onto the carrier signal of a voice call, that is being transmitted from the tower, and doesn't even have to be Verizons tower.
I put up with Verizon's ridiculous prices and their crippled phones (see verizon bloatware, added Skins/UIs, and root checkers), because the service was always consistently the best. One of the man reasons I like the iPhones, because Verizon can't cripple them...so imagine how thrilled I was to get the new iPhone 6...but only be disappointed because of this problem. I have a Lg G2 because the battery last 2 days for me and I am heavy user...if anyone is wondering. I have an iPhone 6 for work on At&t...so I am not totally upset, just wish my personal phone worked so well.
    Sorry rant over...

  • Have recently acquired an additional black MacBook, and installed Snow Leopard onto it. Trying to get it to connect via a plug-in USB wifi unit (poor reception on Airport) I have an extra Network Location which does not work.  How can I remove it?

Need to get a second hand black MacBook connected.  Poor reception on Airport so tried a plug in wifi aerial. That didn't work, but now have  a Network Location I can't get rid of.  How do I remove it ?

    Hello my ginger,
I tried what you suggested - but to no success.  The problem came up when I was re-entering the new settings.  If I left it as using DHCP it would run for a few seconds with no IP address, then drop in a 169.254 one which would not connect through.  To overcome this I tried using the 'Using DHCP with manual address' option and entered in an address which it had set up from the clone boot.  This appeared to be okay.  When I then tried renewing DHCP lease sometimes that address held.  When I tried connecting though - no sight of the internet, and the exclamation mark was across the wifi icon in the menu bar. If I switched it to Using DHCP it would randomly fall back to the 169.254 address.
The only significant differences I could see when cross checking all the settings info was in the WINS panel the NetBIOS had a slightly different configuration of the name - but as they ended in the same numbers I assumed they were the same.  And, when looking under Keychain Access, in the System section list (it also appeared in the login section) additional info box they had different locations - 28 characters in four groups.  I don't have a clue what this refers to.  Also the allow access list in the boot clone included System Preferences, but did not in the Snow Leopard boot, so I added it in.  With no success.
I am so frustrated I am thinking of giving up.  I seen have loads of postings on the net about a variety of problems with wifi connection on Snow Leopard.  I have version 10.6.3.  Did it get any better in later Snow Leopard ?  Or in any of the OS s after that ? It was always so easy and so solid under Leopard - why the h**l did they change it ?

Hi sandrabaugh, I have a Droid Maxx. Are you somewhere that would cause physical interference? Perhaps in a building or location. That has a lot of concrete walls, metal, glass, or near any electronic equipment or computer router type of things? Is it isolated to one particular place, or where ever you use the Droid Maxx?

  • Iphone 5s poor reception of signal

I am facing a lot of issue with connectivity of my iphone 5s.. I still use my 4s and when both phones are placed side by side.. the 4s has complete dots(signals) where as the 5s does show only 1 or 2 dots.. I have taken 5s to apple service center and got it replaced..so I have my new 5s now.. but again its the same problem.. very poor signals and dropped calls..i am using the most updated version of software 8.1 and also I am not using any case.
I have taken a new sim from my service provider just to rule out any issue with sim.. but still its same.. my battery is just draining and when checked the "battery usage" phone -low signal shows like 20%..
I am thinking to move back to android... as all other users in my home does not have any connectivity issues and its from the same service provider...
Any suggestions help is greatly appreciated.

  • Poor Reception in an area that's suppose to be a 3G Area & Other bugs

AT&T may have the fastest 3G network and were the signal is strong its works very well however where the signal is weak three bars or less the service is often interrupted because of poor service. The Apple Iphone 3GS has reception issues although I may be in a 3G environment I am lucky to have three bars of reception most of the time I only have two and sometimes only one. I think the problem is duly blamed on both apple and AT&T. On Thursday Friday & Saturday I was in Corpus Christi Texas in Nueces County Texas on the South Texas Coastal bend 3g coverage signal strength was extremely in consistent when over downtown corpus Christi I had four out of five bars when up the road from the local AT&T store I had five bars when out of Padre Island not far from the Bob Hall Pier I had one bar most of the time sometimes only two bars voice communication was fair however cellular data transferring or downloading using 3G cellular data was a failure most of the time I could not download app updates, could not play Farmville, Since upgrading to Iphone OS 4.01 the problem worsened and some apps no longer work and location services is buggy and sometimes does not correctly revile my proper location sometimes it doesn’t revel my location at all. After syncing new pictures in Itunes new synced photos often do not show up until after I turn the phone off then back on. On July 15 CNN money did a report on Iphone signal bar fix shows AT&T weak spots.

I just want to know when Apple & AT&T are going to get it together.

  • ESPN / Setanta recording problems and poor recepti...

I have found the ESPN doesn't always record for some reason.  At the moment I can't get any reception, say level too low.  strange as all the other channels work perfectly.

I reckon that's why it doesn't record. If there's no signal there's nothing to record
Have you tried rescanning for channels?

  • Patch 1.1.1 - Poor reception w/phone & Wi-Fi now

Ever since updating my iPhone with the new firmware (v1.1.1) I have noticed a dramatic decrease in my phones reception.
I previously got 5 bars consistantly where ever I went (including Italy last month on Vodaphone's network, which was a pleasant surprise!). I also had excellent Wi-Fi reception on my home network. In fact, the reception with AT&T was so good I was tempted to switch the rest of my family over from Verizon.
Well, since the recent update I am lucky to get 2 bars, and poor to no Wi-Fi reception. I also notice major distortion now when playing back purchased iTunes music through the phone speakers. Anyone else having this problem? Is there any way to roll back the update?

  • Signal strength poor

My computer is a floor above and about 50 feet diagonally from the primary computer linked to fios internet thru a wireless connection. The primary computer has great signal strength but mine is always poor.  I heard that other wireless products might interfer with my antenna's signal. Is there a cure for this (besides hard wireing)? Thanks.

I suggest you might try several things:
    1) Move the router around a little. The signal strengh at your wireless PC is affected by the path the signal has to take, how many walls, mirrors, etc, it has to go through, so moving the router a little bit might help. Try moving it both horizontally and vertically.
    2) Try moving the antenna. I have mine vertical, but you can rotate it to horizontal or anywhere in between. With your PC above the router, horizontal might just work better
    3) Try using a different channel, especially if there are other networks in your neighborhood. From looking at my Actiontec router, it appears that the default channel setting is Automatic, but you can change it to any channel you want, 1 to 11 (Wireless Settings ==> Basic Security Settings ==> 3.Channel). It might take some experimentation, but what you want is a channel that is not in use by other networks nearby. Some wireless cards/notebooks offer a function that allows you to see what other networks are available, and what channel each is using (including your network). If yours has that capability it might help you figure out another channel to use.
Beyond the above, another thing you could try is to buy a higher gain antenna for the router or the wireless client, but that costs money. Or invest in a wireless access point, which can be placed nearer to the computer with signal strengh problems - money again.
I suggest you try the free things first. And maybe someone else will come along with additional suggestions.
Unfortunately, wirelss can be somewhat hit or miss. I presume you are using the Actiontec router that Verizon gave you; some people report that the wireless capability of that router is terrible. I have the Actiontec, and for me the wireless signal is great, much better than the signal from the router I replaced. But your mileage may vary.....

  • Wireless signal really poor

My FIOS wireless internet signal is really poor. I'm talking won't go across the room. If there is more than one wireless computer using the internet the whole sytem crashes or slows to a crawl. Several calls and on line tune ups did not solve the problem. I purchased an extened range antenna and that did not help. With my old broadband router (Also verizon) I could work anywhere in the house. Any suggestions?

Why wouldn't it be the CPU?  A 2.4 Ghz clock will actually produce very broadband interference. Square waves such as those commonly found in computer clocks are notorious as broadband intereference sources, so a 2.4 Ghz CPU is likely to make the entire 2.4Ghz band in the vicinity of the PC unusable. While other devices may be in the 2.4Ghz band, most are designed to users, as opposed to abusers, of the band, and operate on discrete frequencies within band (if they operate in the band at all. Cordless Telephones can be 49Mhz, 900Mhz, 2.4Ghz, or 5.8Ghz devices). You can generally get around interference from other users in the 2.4Ghz band by picking another channel within the band. You generally cannot escape broadband interference because it blankets the band.
