No signal - support for previously water damaged handset?

hello,
i have an old iphone 4 that has unfortunately been around my friendship group a bit as a spare.
it was recently diagnosed as having had mild water damage before i came to use it, however i was able to replace the charging comb that had malfunctioned outside of apple support.
i am having a real problem with signal at present, and having exhausted all avenues with my carrier, wondered whether there was a quick fix for aerial replacement or whether indeed apple would consider looking at the phone at all, considering its hitsory with water.
any reccomendations welcome,
thanks
chris

unfortunately, apple will also not touch any phone that has been waterdamaged.
it appears im on my own on this one.
They will happily replace it for a fee, so long as it wasn't opened by an unauthorized party.

Mild water damage?  That's like being "a little bit pregnant"... You either are or you aren't. There are not degrees of water damage, like there are not degrees of pregnancy... It's a binary choice.

How much will it cost for an out of warranty repair for a water damaged iPhone 4S in the UK?
I got water in my iPhone 4S (not drenched as it was within a LifeStyle waterproof case).
I dried it out in a bowl of rice, but the phone no longer charges, will not allow wifi, cannot locate network.

You have to get a refurbished iPhone. As your phone is out of warranty, you will have to pay £139 at an Apple Store in order to get it > http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipho ne

  • Is there any hope for a water damaged ipad mini?

I accidentally spilled some water over my ipad mini. I think the water got into the ipad thru the earphone jack. If spent about two weeks trying to dry it out.
The excess  moisture that was inside the screen has disappeared (after head and rice and all that sort of thing) but it will not switch on.
If I connect to the power, I can hear the audible beep that happens when you plug it in. If I leave it for a while, I can randomly hear Siri saying something like 'Siri cannot operate'(not too sure - I've always been too far away) and 'please connect to Internet'
This makes me feel there is something there but, I still can not turn it on.
    Any help? Any hope?
    Noreen

    there may not be unfortunately.
The water itself doesn't damage the device, but the short circuits the water causes does the damage. Anecdotally, people have reported success drying their device out, but usually the key is to rice it and leave it until it's totally dry. And avoid any power that may cause those short circuits. Since you've turned it on and such what damage there was to do is probably already done.
Just guessing, from what you;'re saying, the wifi part and the backlight/screen light seems to be damaged even though part of the operating system works (since siri can tell you she needs the internet)
You may be to the point of hoping Apple can grant you an out of warranty replacement (they don't have to when it's user damage) or looking for a new device.

  • Why in the world does it cost sooo much to replace a logic board for your water damage macbook pro? As if apple hasn't made enough money to allow some people to save some money for their laptop..

As if apple hasn't made enough money to allow some people to save some money..

Do you think Apple should reward your clumsiness or lack of caution by giving you a logic board for free, or at cost? Come to think of it, shouldn't they just give you a free new computer, and be grateful to you for taking it off their hands?

  • Water damage to iphone?

my iphone fell into a hot bath???..will it work again??

    niamhjd,
I am writing this post hoping that it will help you and anyone else who searches the Web wanting advice for a water-damaged iPhone. Bottom line: Our water-damaged 3GS doesn't work, but we were able to salvage our photos!
My wife had a similar issue - her iPhone 3GS was dunked into salt water and wouldn't respond to any buttons. We dried off the exterior and left it in a warm car to dry it off. I later read that you can speed up the drying process by putting it into a bag of rice or silica gel packs, but don't overheat it. Anyway, after a few days we took it to the Apple store, where a "genius" told us there was nothing we could do to repair it.
We explained that we wanted to recover photos from the trip we were on, and he said it might be possible by executing a procedure that involves removing the memory chip from the motherboard and soldering it to a new circuit. But it would be extremely expensive. So we took it home, resolved to upgrading to a 4S when they became available.
Believing that we could do no more harm, she plugged it into the power adapter and was surprised to see a faint Apple logo on the screen - barely visible, but in the same spot where one appears during boot-up.
After charging the phone for about a day, it still wouldn't respond to the lock button. So I figured, there's nothing to lose by plugging it into my Mac desktop. I was surprised when iPhoto launched as usual, and shocked when the iPhone appeared in the Sources pane. It read all the stored photos, and let me download all of them except one movie. It even launched iTunes and stepped through the sync process: backup, download purchased apps, updated apps, syncing files, etc. It seemed to balk, though, when I tried to access app data.
It may be that ours was not a typical outcome - that we could just as easily have fried whatever undamaged circuits were left by plugging it into the charger and the desktop. So my advice to anyone who reads this and wants to recover their photos, books, apps, etc is to research the Web for ways to minimize water damage; try to dry the phone out as thoroughly as possible; try to power up gently; and if all else fails, try syncing to your desktop.  Good luck!

  • Water Damaged Curve 8310

    Hello!
Unfortunately I put my Rogers Curve 8310 through the wash a couple of weeks ago, and no amount of rice and blow-drying could save it.  I've met people who have swam for half and hour and saved their BB's, but I figure it had no chance after soap and a spin cycle.
My question is this:  Does RIM have any program for replacing water damaged phones?  My best friend recently dunked his iPhone 3Gs in a toilet and they sent him a box the next day, he popped it in, and a week later he received a brand new 3Gs in the mail for $229 cdn, which is a hell of a lot more palatable than the $800 retail price.
    Thank you!

Not that I'm aware of. I don't know if water damage is covered under warranty. If you have insurance on your phone then you should be able to pay the detuctible to get another BlackBerry. If you contact your carrier they would be able to tell you.

  • How do I submit a claim on the Class Action Apple settled for the iPhone with the water damage indicator red

I stood in line the first day the original iPhone came out to purchase one.  The next day I purchased my second iPhone for my daughter and before long we had 4 iPhones in the house.  We still to this day have 4 iPhones.  Over the years several of my iPhones stopped working, I had paid extra to have the support contract on them only to find the local Apple store could care less.  They condemed my iPhones as being water damaged even though I was told the phones did not get dunked in water.
Today I learned Apple settled a Class Action in regards to the iPhones with warrenty where the liquid sensor was red and Apple refused to fix the problem.  In researching this I discovered reading the judges order in the case that Apple is supposed to have a 1-800 number setup and a website setup for people who had the problem.  I searched the web but could not find the website or the phone number.  It appears as if Apple is going to e-mail all people who took their iPhones in for repair and were refused yet I have not recieved an e-mail from Apple.
I guess the question I have is should I assume since I have had no e-mail from Apple that I will not get one and I will not be included as those getting payment.  Should just take my iPhones with the red liquid sensor to small claims court or should I attempt to contact the judge in the case and ask him how I can have three iPhones that qualify yet have not heard anything from Apple?  I still have the iPhones that Apple refused to repair.

I don't think the settlement has been approved by the courts yet. Apple agreed to pay, but I don't believe the terms of how everything will go down has been officiated yet. When it is, the documents written up about it stipulate they've got to place a notice in USA today and Macworld with the web address for claims as well as a toll-free number. You can see the terms that are being negotiated at wired.com

  • Apple denies replacement due to apparant water damage, wetness indicator is white, iphone 5 has been searching for a network for 5 days and its never got wet

So my iphone is about 5 months old, over the last week it has been searching for a network signal. Yesterday i blew inside the sim tray to as i thought there was something stuckin there (stupid i know) but today apple denied replacement due to water damage. theres no water damage and the wet indicator is white. any advice on what i can do?? as i know it hasnt been submerged in water or exposed to water the phone was broken before i blew in it...the phne works fine its just not picking up a network

Take it back to the Apple store and ask for an explanation as to why they believe there is water damage.  They should be able to show a water sensor that has been affected.
If still unhappy with the explanation, ask for a manager.
IF that does not get a satisfactory resolution, contact Apple customer care.

  • HELP!!! Last night my iphone 4 randomly shut off. I thought it died since it was on 10% but when I tried charging it for 40 minutes it wouldn't turn on. I then tried to hold down the lock and home buttons. NOTHING. There's no water damage.Any suggestions?

After I tried the hold and lock buttons several times I tried hooking my phone up to iTunes and that still did nothing. I also tried changing the charger I was using. My phone still didn't turn on. I also checked for an indicarion of water/liquid damage and there wasn't any. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Hello there, nmitc014.
Sounds like you're on the right track with your troubleshooting. The following Knowledge Base article has a great checklist of steps for troubleshooting your issue:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
    Particularly:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?
    Contact Apple Support.

  • Original iPad mini had water damage, then sat around for 8 months.

I have an iPad mini with water damage that has been sitting around for 8 months.
I woke up in the middle of the night and spilled water on it. It was plugged in and in an Otterbox. I unplugged it, took it out of the case, and dried it off. I then put it back in the case, plugged it in, and went back to bed.
When I awoke, it was no longer working. I can't remember anymore details than that, so I have no idea what was the ultimate killer of it. I tried putting it in a bag of rice, but it didn't work. What I want to know is how much would it cost to fix it, if It can be fixed. If not, what would you all do? I loved this thing to death and kept hoping it would come back, but it hasn't.

You can make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and do an out-of-warranty replacement for $199 or you can buy a new one.
