No signal when using Monster Cable HDMI

I have one of the newer upgraded Moto set tops and a Sony Bravia LCD. When I connect with 6 foot Dynex cable the signal is fine. However when I swap it for a 25' Monster HDMI cable there is no signal (HD or SD). The same TV works just fine with a PS3 and an AppleTV using that Monster HDMI.
Is there a handshake issue or some other compatibility I am missing? I am running the latest firmware on the TV and
thx for any assistance.

So a regular hdmi cable works but a monster doesn't?
I would just return the monster,   With HDMI There is no difference between the 2 dollar hdmi cable and the monster.
Notice that a 6 foot (Dynex) works and a 25 foot (Monster) doesn't.  The problem is most likely that the cable box can't drive the capacitance of the 25 foot cable (all cables have a characteristic capacitance per foot which can limit the length a signal can be driven).  Agree that Monster is not worth the exorbitant price and places like monoprice.com that sell inexpensive cables which are just as good if not better.

  • Prevent OS X to upmix my stereo signal when using 6 channel HDMI

I just bought a new MacBook Pro 13" (2015 version) and I'm used to watch series using my Windows notebook or Desktop machine plugged to my Home Theatre system with a HDMI cable. Because every series is produced in 5.1 and then encoded to a Dolby stereo signal everyone can have a surround sound experience when putting it through a Dolby Pro Logic decoder although the sound is delivered as 2 channel stereo. You guys may have noticed it when watching TV and then put the sound signal through a Dolby receiver. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolby_Pro_Logic#Dolby_Pro_Logic_II)
When I was watching my movies using my PCs it would send the stereo signal through my HDMI cable (set to 5.1) and at the receiver it gets converted to surround sound. But now when I watch using my Mac my stereo signal gets upmixed to all channels (which ruins the dolby signal) and my home theatre cannot decode it anymore.
It works when I put my HDMI settings to a 2 channel configuration in OS X's Audio MIDI setup but I want to keep it in 6 channel mode in case I have a 5.1 audio file or watch a 5.1 movie.

Not all MacBooks support audio over mini-Displayport.   Use this user tip to find your model:

  • When useing av cable to a projector, I want the sound to come out headphone jack.

I am using the av cable to connect the video out to a projector and the headphone jack to speackers.
If I unplug the av cable the headphone jack provides sound to speakers and  I have volume slider under the play button.
When I plug in the av cable the volume slider under the play button goes away and the projector works.
I have been able to make them work befor together.

Think when you connect by hdmi you mute the headset like you mute the soeaker if you use the headset

  • Though I have connected my receiver using thunderbolt cable/hdmi it does not emit sound, but i can see the display

My imac does not detect the thunderbolt. so cannot select external speakers though I have connected the mac using thunderbolt to hdmi. cannot receive sound but video is seen.

I have one thunderbolt port and one mini display port.
No Mac has both Thunderbolt and Mini DisplayPort.  They are both Thunderbolt.  A Mini Disp;layPort cable or adapter will work in a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt port.
A Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable or adapter can handle both audio and video, but some older ones are video only.
You may have a broken audio wire in your cable.  Try a new cable or Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.  Make sure it says it will handle both audio and video.

  • "charging is not supported" when using the cable that came with ipod

I get an error message that "charging is not supported" when plugged in using the only cable that came with my ipod touch. My ipod will charge for 5 minutes then when I check on it, I notice this error on screen and the ipod has stopped charging.  I'm using the same charging method I have always used since I owned this ipod which has been over 2 years now and this only started happening recently. I believe this started when I upgraded to 5.0.1.

    - Look at both partsof the 30 pin dock connector.  Log for bent. mising or corroded contacts of orther abnormalities. The cable could be bad.  Try a new one.
    - Try a reset. Nothings is lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • HP Photosmart 7510 - loose connectivity when using Ethernet cable

    Need help!
I have an HP Photosmart 7510 all-in-one printer connected to my home network via wireless.
I have 1 Windows7 laptop which successfully connects to the printer via the home Ethernet network (laptop connected via cat5) - so the overall system appears to be working fine on Windows.
I also have 1 MacMini running OS X 10.7.5 which can ONLY print/scan if the Ethernet connection is UNPLUGGED from the MacMini (thus forcing me to use my very poor and unreliable wireless signal).
As soon as I plug in the Ethernet cable to the MacMini I loose all connectivity to the printer.  I have confirmed the Ethernet cable is good - as it works fine with my Windows7 laptop.
Has anyone figured out why I cannot use the physical Ethernet connection to communicate with the HP Photosmart?
    Thanks!

Just making sure, you're running the Ethernet cable from the printer to the router, then running another cable from the router to the Mac, correct?
Have you added the printer's queue to the Mac once the Ethernet cable is connected, or does it not show up in Print and Scan?

  • Samsung T240HD Reboots mini when using DVI or HDMI

    Hi there,
My new Samsung T240HD works pretty well when I connect it to the Mac Mini using a DVI-VGA adapter (currently 1920 x 1200 60 Hz, Millions) but if I try to use either DVI-DVI or DVI-HDMI the monitor will appear and run perfectly from startup - but then the mini will reboot after 30mins or less.
I downloaded and installed SwitchResX, but I wasn't even sure what the problem I was trying to solve was so I removed SwitchResX and went back to the VGA solution.
Im quite keen to use the DVI or HDMI inputs if its possible to do so without causing the rebooting of the machine.
    I would appreciate any responses
    Cheers

That is quite a strange problem. Since you point out the mini is sharing a powerboard/powerstrip with the Samsung, as a trouble shooting measure, I would try plugging the mini into a completely seperate circuit. In fact, get the longest power extension cord you have and try plugging the mini into an outlet from a seperate room, if possible, to increase the chances of being on a completely different branch from the fuse/breaker box. See if that makes the problem go away and then, if it does, start narrowing things down by moving the plug points around, trying different combinations and perhaps trying a different powerboard.
A video output port is not a power port, per se. In other words, it is impartial with respect to the size of the display that is attached. A larger display should not cause a greater power draw from the mini, at least not of any consequence. Plenty of people attach monitors and TV's that are 24" or larger and I have never heard of that causing the mini's power supply to "crow bar" to protect itself from an over-power condition.
It could well be that the Samsung has a defect of some kind and you may need to return it for another. That's something to consider.

  • Noisy signal when using PXI 4461 DC Voltage

    Hi
I'm conducting shot noise measurements on single molecule junctions. In order to bias the sample with a very clean DC bias, we've purchased the NI PXI-4461 for our lab. According to the specifications, the output noise should be in a order of 23*10^-6V for a bandwidth of 80kHz. However, when testing the V output by connecting it to a spectrum analyzer (SR780) at V=0 DC bias and differential output mode (To generate the DC signal, I've simply used the test panels.), the output spectra was very noisy (x units are Hz y units are Vrms/sqrt(Hz)):
So we've discovered the output is actually very noisy and especially has a high peak at ~53kHz, probably from the AC power supply. Connecting a 10Hz low pass filter significantly improved the result:
Which shows that  the output noise filters of the 4461 are probably not activated. Also the peak at 50kHz from the power supply still remains very substantial (later, we've managed to reduce it further by disconnecting the ground of the output). According the the specifications of the 4461, it should be possible to get a very clean DC signal from it:
"NI 4461 output channels have both analog and digital anti-imaging filters. These filters remove the unwanted out-of-band components generated when an analog signal is produced from digital data. The digital filters limit the bandwidth of the output signal to half the original conversion rate, thereby rejecting images caused by the 8-times oversampling process. The signals generated by the analog output circuitry are low-distortion, low-noise, flat-frequency analog signals."
    So my questions are:
    1. How can I make these anti imaging filters work using labview? (code examples will be great)
    2. Are there is any other configuration parameters of the PXI-4461 which can be used to lower the output noise?
    3. How can I reduce the power supply noise? (regarding this - we also have a computer PXIe-8106 running on the same PXI chassis)
    Sincerely,
    Ran Vardimon

    Hello Ran,
It sounds like your main issue is filtering the output noise from your DSA card and you're trying to find a proprty to activate the anti-aliasing filters. There is a DAQmx channel property node that can filter that noise, and is described in the KnowledgeBase article here. The article covers the AI property, but you can use the class browser to find the AO version as in the attached picture. Hopefully this helps.

  • External HDs not recognized by iMac when using USB cable

I just bought a new iMac & plugged in my two Western Digital 1tb drives using the supplied USB cables and neither of them are recognized by my iMac.
I've been using both of these drives with my other G5 iMac using the firewire cables & have not had any issues. I also purchased an adapter (USB -->firewire 800) and each hard drive mounts ... but neither will mount using the USB connections.
Any suggestions as to how I can get the second drive to work using the USB cable ...
    Thanks,
    Brent

+do I need to move the contents of the external drive off the unit before the partition?????+
YES! Absolutely! The partitioning process erases the drive, so you need to temporarily copy data onto your old Mac.
+how do I achieve this? I'm guessing there's a piece of hardware that I'll need to connect the two hard drives together and then feed another line into the iMac ... correct?+
All you need are firewire cables (hard drive to hard drive to iMac). See Dennis' link and the excerpt here:
+Question 7: Can FireWire devices be connected in a daisy chain?+
+Answer: Yes, and if the devices are designed according to the FireWire standard, they can be turned on and off as needed. For example, all devices don't need to be powered on to use the last device in the chain. For the best result, and to avoid overstressing the FireWire port, connect one FireWire device to the Macintosh, then add one device at a time to the chain. Avoid plugging in live power adapters into devices connected to the chain.+
And congratulations on your new iMac - you'll love it; I got mine about a month ago.

  • Low Wireless Signal When Using 10.6.1

Since upgrading to SL, I have been unable to get anything more than 2 bars of wireless coverage. This includes using a computer situated with 10 feet of my Airport Extreme with no sources of interference. I have tried older routers that have similar results - horrible wireless signals.
Is anyone else suffering through this?

Is you wireless performance/distance from computer definitely affected negatively by the apparently low signals? If not, then I would not worry about the apparently low signal strength.

  • Switching audio outputs when using optical cables

I have an optical cable out to my main home stereo for listening to music. Sometimes I only want to use the iMac's internal speakers instead of the home stereo. Unfortunately, the System preferences does not seem to allow me to change output sources via the software. The only way that I can find to switch outputs is to physically unplug the optical cable. Given the reported frailty of optical cables, I would rather not have to do this. Is there a way to allow a software change from external to internal speakers without unplugging the cable?
Thanks for any help that you can offer!

Does not seem to be any software control of multiple outputs. Just have to unplug the output for the internal speakers to come back to life.

  • Lower signal when using wide 40 MHz channels?

I noticed on my WRT-150N that when I switched the unit to 40 MHz wide channels, the signal strength (at a few feet from the router) dropped about 30-40% on my MacBook Pro. I am assuming this may be normal and could be due to the transmitter having to spread its power over twice as much bandwidth. Is this an accurate guess? If so, it would appear that enabling wide channels will definitely eat into your range.

yes you are correct...higher bandwidth is = lower range and vice versa...

  • Black screen on HD monitor when using DVI cable

    Hi there,
I've recently purchased a Samsung P2270 monitor with the intention of playing HD content from my mac mini, however, it would appear that this isn't possible.
Connecting it up with a 18pin DVI-D cable doesn't seem to yield anything on the screen. Wondering if it could be a faulty monitor, I tried the DVI-VGA cable instead and thankfully managed to get something on the screen.
But being human, i'm still set on trying to get 1920x1080 resolution out of my mac mini!
Checking the display tab within System Preference, it would appear that the maximum resolution option i have on my mac mini is 1280x800. However, I have an Intel GMA 950 graphics card on board, and it should be able to handle HD ie 1920x1080.
I've got a grandfather of a mac mini - Intel core duo 1.83 GHz, purchased it in 2007. Running Mac OS 10.4.11 Tiger on it.
Has anyone any experience hooking up a similar mac mini to a HD display with success? Is there any way around this problem? Or am i doomed to looking at black bars on either side of my display till i upgrade?
I'd be grateful for any advice/suggestions

Looking at the specs of your monitor, I see that the connection is listed as a DVI-I connection. You should try a suitable cable before giving up.

  • SHOLD I USE ALL THE HANDSHKING SIGNALS WHEN USING VISA READ AND WRITE?

I want to send string from com3 to com 4 using the example 'Basic 2 port serial write and read.vi'.How should I connect my com3 and com4 which are available on my pc.? Do I need to connect all the handshaking connections?

In general, no.  There are some instruments that might require it, but between two COM ports on your computer you don't have to worry about it.  As said, just connect the TX of one port to the RX of the other and visa versa.  It also wouldn't hurt to connect the grounds.
