No SIM card, how do I unlock my iPhone 3G?

I'm trying to unlock my iPhone 3 but, I don't have the SIM card that was originally in it. The phone has been restored and won't allow me to continue. It's telling me to put a sim add in. I have an active sim are with another cell company but the code is saying invalid sim. How do I get past this?

Contact the carrier the phone is locked to and request that it be unlocked (not all carriers offer this). Only they can request that it be officially unlocked.

Until the carrier completes their end of the unlock procedure, their SIM must be in place. Only afterwards will you be able to switch to the other carrier.

SIM cards are not locked, unless you have a lock put on it from the carrier. Maybe you are referring to unlocking the phone to use a different carrier? Please explain better.

First you'd have to establish service with Verizon. Once a paying customer in good standing, you can then request the GSM portion be unlocked. Obviously, you can't do any of that stuff while you're out of the US. They will not unlock the CDMA side.

I made everything as well as was written, but on completion of the ios 6.1.3 installation the iPhone asks to be activated through wifi or through a wire to the computer.
I connected Iphone to the computer and the text takes off: (Were sorry, we are unable to continue with your activation at this time. Please TR again later, or contact customer care! )

Exactly, what do you mean by "does not accept sim card"? Are you saying you purchased a carrier locked iPhone & you can't use a sim from a different carrier? If so, that's the way it works. Carrier locked iPhones can only be used/activated on the carrier's network the phone is locked to. Either return it for a refund or contact the carrier the phone is locked to to see if they offer official unlocking.

iPhones require a SIM card for activation, regardless of whether it is being used as an iPhone or an iPod.
Put a SIM in the device for the carrier it is locked to and activate it. The SIM can then be left it it or removed.

There is no such thing as an unlock code. Sprint may have processed the unlock, and then requested you restore the iPhone using iTunes to complete it. But that's it. There is no code to enter, and nowhere to enter it any way.
