It's difficult for them to pick out suggestions and comments among the thousands of posts made here.
If you're having a problem with the SIM being recognized that takes tape to cure, I'd suggest you take the iPhone to an Apple Store, if there's one near you, or call Apple support. It may be a problem that would be eliminated in another iPhone, and if not would at least get the problem on record for you.

I have an older I-Phone (3G) that for some reason the body of the phone has split in two. This phone was a business phone and it had a lot of important information on it. I have a second phone that is also a 3G. On the broken phone there is a lot of important information that I need in my calendar. Im not worried about anything else but the calendar. I didn't have the Mobile Me account at that time or I would be having this problem. Does anybody know if I can ust switch out the sim cards. I just need to recover the old calendar, so im hoping that the calendar will transfer when I switch the sim card into the good 3G. If that doesn't work does anybody know of anyway that I can retrieve this information off of this phone?
Nothing is stored on the sim card on an iPhone. If you backed up to your computer the backup will contain your calendar events. Otherwise, if your phone isn't functioning there is no way to back up or extract your calendar at this point.

IPhone 3GS doesn't recognise sim card. Status either says no sim or searching. If it does find network it's only for a minute or two?? Any ideas?

ITunes restore iPhone SIM Card no longer works.
Ok, I had all my contacts and information backuped onto my computer so I could easily transfer them from my 16GB 3G to my new 32GB 3GS. After being restored and synced with my computer my SIM Card no longer works. It wont let me place a call or text. When I un-plug the SIM Card and then plug it back in a message comes up saying invalid SIM and then disappears. Also it either has 1 "bar" with the rest flat and no AT&T logo or 3G, or says No Service.
Sounds like you need to call AT&T.

My sim card is no longer recognized by the ZTE Open sold on EBay
After 6 month of happy usage of my ZTE Open, manually upgraded to Firefos OS 1.3.
My phone suddenly does not recognize my sim card any more.
I performed some tests with other phones, other operators, and other sim cards that lead me to tell that the problem comes from the phone.
There was no special event that can explain this problem (no fall, no update, no water...).
I tried to retart the phone, to reset it. No way the sim card is recognized.
I seem to be able to call and receive phone calls, but no sms and no data.
Can you please help ?Same thing with me, but SMS and data seem to work fine. Only seems to affect Usage app on my phone (ZTE Open C).

Hi, I am traveling to Romania in a few days. I called Verizon Global Support and had them unlocked my sim card for the 4s.
They told me there was some steps I had to take after they unlocked it and I will find these steps on the Apple website.
Well I cant find what they are talking about and my search on the internet is not giving what I want.
I see things about Sprint 4s and that u must connect your phone to Itunes to complete the unlock process is this the same for verizon ?
The Verizon Rep told me I will be able to use a Internation Sim but I had to connect my phone to a computer after replacing the International sim and go threw a whole process of Restoring and resetting my phone threw Itunes. Is there true ? I dont not have a internation sim with me is there any other way to see if its unlock and how the process is ? Do i need to set my phone to only run on GSM when I get there or will the International sim automatically switch the band ?
I know its alot of question all at once but i just want to get to the point.

Verizon has confirmed (here and here) they WILL unlock the SIM on the iPhone 4S, allowing for use of local SIM cards while traveling abroad (no word yet on whether this will allow for use on AT&T and T-Mobile.) This is different than the jailbreak unlocking method; SIM unlocking through Verizon is permanent and will not affect your warranty in any way.
1. Meet the following requirements:
* Must be a Verizon Wireless customer.
* The iPhone 4S being unlocked must be active on a Verizon Wireless line of service.
* The line of service must be active at least 60 days.
* The line of service must be in good standing for the past 60 days.
* Only one SIM Unlock per line every 10 months.
If you don't meet one or more of the above requirements, call anyway. You may still get lucky.
2. Insert a foreign SIM into the SIM card slot on the side of your phone (only required to confirm that the unlock is successful.)
3. Call 1-800-711-8300 (Verizon Global Support) and ask the representative for a SIM unlock. Occassionally a representative may not know exactly what you are referring to; make sure you are not transferred to a different department. You are in the right place. Explain that they should have a walkthrough on how to do this, and that it allows for the use of local, non-Verizon SIM cards while traveling abroad.
4. Get confirmation from the rep that the unlock has been applied to your account, then check your phone to make sure it recognizes your SIM and can connect (if successful it will roam on AT&T, assuming you are calling from the USA.) You will NOT see an unlock confirmation in iTunes as that is for a factory-applied unlock only.
5. Enjoy your new unlocked iPhone 4S! -
Hi Just wondered if anyone can help with the above question? I had O2 phone unlocked and bought a local sim card, but although the calls are fine i have no option for internet etc. I have done searches and got the info details from the sim provider to activate, but instructions say i go to : Settings; General; Network and then Celluar Data Network, but I dont get that option ? When i put back my O2 sim card, the option reappears?
Can anyone help me please? Off to Australia again soon and really could do with it working properly this time.

I have a 4 S running iOS 5.01 is there an option in Settings - Network - Carrier? As this should be set to the supplier of the sim card. In my Settings - Network there is no option for Celluar Data Network.
What version of the iOS are you using?
Some prepaid sim cards may not have a lot of data, so I suggest searching the companies websites for the best deals before you come here. Telstra usually have good plans. If you take your phone to the shop you purchased the sim card from they will usually set it up for you.
Telstra runs on a different frequency to others and offers the best coverage in Australia.

If the SIM is out of your phone, find my phone needs a data connection, so could use wifi - IF in range of a wifi and one that it can join (ie. a known network or one that is wholly open so no login required). Your phone could also simple be turned off, so not findable, or it may have been restored (plugged into iTunes and restored as new) again, making it permanently unfindable. Honestly, for someone stealing an iPhone, this is likely the first thing they do - restore as new and it is theirs forever.
Find my iPhone is tied to the users iCloud account - the find function is part of the iCloud account's services and it communicates with the iCloud servers over a data connection - either wifi or 3G.
Have you set up your iCloud account on your replacement phone, and is it working properly on that phone? -

Não sei se o senhor já conseguiu resolver seu problema já que a mensagem é bem antiga. De qualquer forma, queria dar uma dica.
Esse fórum é feito para usuários e pelos usuários. A Apple não dá assistência oficial através dele. Dessa forma, não é muito seguro que o senhor informe dados pessoais como telefone, número de RG, número de nota fiscal, etc.
Aconselho que o senhor edite essa mensagem e retire esses dados.
Sobre o seu problema, aconselho que entre em contato com o Decon ou Procon de sua cidade e peça alguma orientação, ou o senhor poderia entrar em contato com a Pró-teste, que é a associação de defesa do consumidor do Brasil.
De qualquer forma, se precisar de ajuda, estou à disposição.

The Difference between iphone Unlock T-Mobile and iphone Unlock Free-Sim
As mentiond in the title my questions are:-
- What is the Difference between iphone Unlock T-Mobile and iphone Unlock Free-Sim?!
- Did they both work Internationally?!
- For the Unlock T-Mobile should i use their sim or i can use any sim directly?!
ThanksUnlocked means unlocked and you can use any sim card and keep changing them and the phone will never lock if it is unlocked.
Sim free, means that the phone is sold at full price without a sim card, but the phone will lock to the first sim card that you put in it. A sim free phone will work internationally, but you will have to use a roaming plan with your phone company because the phone will be locked, so you CANNOT change it to a local sim card.
If you have an unlocked phone, you can use it internationally by inserting a local sim card and the phone should then work and you won't have to pay increased roaming charges as you would with a locked phone.
If you buy a T-Mobile phone that is unlocked, DO NOT activate it with their sim card or the phone will lock to T-Mobile and you will have to approach them to get it unlocked. Use it with another sim card straight away and it will remain unlocked. -

My friend bought Iphone 4 from Apple store canada as factory unlock and pay the full price but during activation its giving me an error as The Sim is not supported contact your carrier..... Can i return the phone after 60 days of purchase as the friend who brought this from canada is going back after a month and its already a month he had purchased it..as i believe that the Iphone has 1 year warranty...Plz correct me if i am wrong...And also please tell me if he had lost the reciept..is there any way he can still return it and get the new one...???

"No sim installed" error after updating to iOS 5.1
A notification popped up this morning asking me to update to iOS 5.1 so I updated it. Once I downloaded and installed it, it said "no sim installed". I have rebooted my phone, taken out and put back in the sim but the error message remains. I can't make calls or message, but my internet works. Anything else I can try?
i have the same problem with the 4s. I have a (cutdown) sim from virgin (in the UK), who do not offer the iphone, but it worked perfectly until this upgrade (to ios 5.1). The phone was bought unlocked from apple. now i have the no sim error. I am trying a restore and have booked a genius bar appt for later today. I have a very expensive touch at present. The sim is working fine in my old nokia, so it is not the sim that is faulty. What is going on here, why would i want to upgrade if this just creates problems. I have been up since 5am now trying to sort this so i have a phone again.

Apple does not repair devices, they offer Out of Warranty replacements for $199 (4S) or $149 (older models) in the US. -

Help needed asap! I want to buy an IPAD 3G + Wifi before I return to my country from the US. The problem is that I have GSM service providers in my country that provide 3G services but I am wondering if their SIM card would work in the IPAD? In other words, can I get an unlocked IPAD 3G wifi? Thanks for helping out
The AT&T 3G iPads (which are GSM/sim based) in the US are not locked (the Verizon models are CDMA based so they effectively are). So as long as you can get a sim in your own country you shouldn't have a problem
