No Skimming in Event View within Media/Photos Browser

I am posting this in the Keynote '09 board however have noticed this in all three iWork '09 apps. When I open the media browser, navigate to photos and then change the view to events, I can't skim through the photos within those events like I can in iPhoto. If you watch the tutorials, specifically the one for Keynote "Getting Started..." (http://www.apple.com/iwork/tutorials/keynote/intro.html#keynote-intro), towards the latter portion of the video, it discusses adding media and being able to skim through the photos in event view. It was also presented in the Macworld keynote as well.
Is anyone else having problems with this?
Is there something wrong on my end or is this is glitch?
What can I do to remedy it?
It's not something major but it is something that I noticed immediately when I was attempting to add media into a presentation. As I mentioned before, the same issue exists in Numbers and Pages as well.
Any advice?

I hadn't tested it in a while so I just went in; it does the same thing. Upon initial load, skimming does not work. I closed and reopened, waited for a minute and then was able to skim. Unlike you though, once I can skim, I am good through out; even when going over to movies and back to photos.
I would like to think it relates to the number of events/photos that you have. The more to load, the longer it takes.
Does anyone else have the issue? It's not detrimental as eventually it works; more annoying than anything. I just wish I knew how to remedy.
Until next time...

  • Why is there no Events view in My Photos

I am trying to view my events under my photos. Instead it is clumped together as one huge library. What gives?

I am sure we have to be talking at cross purposes here, so let me explain what I am on about.
I take pictures on Christmas Day 2007 and they are organised in iPhoto in an Event called "Christmas Day 2007". I have another Event from the year before called "Christmas Day 2006" and there are a load of miscellaneous ones in between them.
When I sync my iPhoto library to Apple TV and choose to sync "All Events (nnnn photos)" and look in My Photos on the Apple TV, I see all the Events listed sequentially in reverse chronological order (i.e. most recent first). I can scroll through and choose any of these events which takes me to a slide show of all the pictures that belong to that event.
On the other hand, If I instead choose to sync "All photos and albums (nnnn photos)" I get an album-centric view on the Apple TV. If I have not organised my photos into albums, I'll just get a monolithic one (called 'Photos').
I just checked all this by switching one of my Apple TVs from Event to Album syncing (which is why I have been a little while replying). I was pleasantly surprised to find that this did not entail a re-sync of all the photos, but just changed the view - and did so pretty quickly.

  • Event Viewer: Export all events during timeframe

I would like to export all events in Event Viewer within a certain time. However, when I choose to select all event sources and I receive the error "Event Viewer cannot open the event log or custom view.  Verify that Event Log service is running
or query is too long.  The data is invalid (13)."
I can eventually view some events by unchecking a few items from event logs under Applications and Services Logs.  Therefore it seems that the UI is unable to handle the query for all logs.
Looking for an easy way to export from all logs for a specific time period.

    Hi,
    à
However, when I choose to select all event sources and I receive the error
"Event Viewer cannot open the event log or custom view.
Verify that Event Log service is running or query is too long.
    The data is invalid (13)."
I’m a little confused with the operation that you described. Would you please let me know more details of it?
    Sorry for it.
By the way, for the error message, please refer to following KB and check if can help you.
Error message when you use Event Viewer to open an event log
on a Windows Vista or a Windows Server 2008-based computer: "Event Viewer cannot open the event log or custom view"
Just my guess, you want to Create Custom View for all event logs and then click “Save All Events in Custom
View As…” to save those all events. In the Filter tab in Create Custom View panel, if you check too much items from Event logs, it will be empty. I suggest that firstly create custom view for Windows Logs and export it. Then do same operation for other event
logs (under the item number limitation). Meanwhile, please also refer to following article and check if Wevtutil command can help you.
    Wevtutil
Query and Manage Event Logs with the Windows
    Events Command Line Utility
    à
Therefore it seems that the UI is unable to handle the query for all logs.
    I will agree with you.
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

  • Play slide show from Photo Browser

How can I play my slide show in Full Screen view from Photo Browser?
Upon double click of the created slide show , located at first position in my Photo Browser, the Slide Show Editor opens which permits only play in Full Screen in Preview which produces low resolution images.

Please identify which version of PS Elements you have - 3 or 4. My guess is that you have v4 but it may make a difference in this conversation.
Based on the fact that I think that you want to view your photos at the maximim resolution of your monitor, have you tried the Full Screen view of the Photo Browser?
A slide show creation (made by the slide show Editor) is not designed to be played from the Photo Browser.
If you Output in the slide show editor as a WMV file, that is played in Windows Movie Maker or other programs. However, the WMV values defaulted in PSE do not give you full monitor resolution in most cases - so if you stretch to full screen it will probably not look good.
If you output the slide show creation as a PDF file, then you should use the Adobe Reader to play back that PDF file. The Preview for the slide show is just a Preview, which has quality level choices if you are in v4, but I don't think it is intended as a way to display the finished slide show.

  • Missing events from several devices within event viewer

    Hi
I'm running a CSM v4.1.0 which manages several FWSM blades and device contexts. Although all context share the same syslog policies within CSM the events off half of the contexts are not shown in the event viewer. I ran a sniffer on the server, so that I could verify that syslog messages from all contexts are arriving. But somehow the CSM ignores the syslog messages. All contexts are selectable within the "Custom Filter for Device" so the CSM should be aware off them. Well off course he should be aware, as he has all the configurations of the contexts. ;-)
What am I missing? Is it a bug? Is there a limitation to the number off supperted eventing devices?
    Kind regards
    Roberto

CSM event viewer supports events from the ASA/FWSM virtual contexts ony if each context is discovered in CSM configuration manager with separete mangement IP.
Please try to discover the contexts as independent devices with separate management IP.

  • Photos not visible in Event view

Over the last week my photos older than 7 Sep 14, in event view have become invisible, but can be seen when each event is opened. I have iPhoto version 9.5.1 does anyone know how to correct this? As it has meant the photos are also not available to email or see in Albums.

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

  • Birds eye view of photos - like iPhoto's 'Events' view

I switched from iPhoto to Lightroom. I love Lightroom. That said, I really miss iPhoto's 'Events' view. I'd love to see a feature in Lightroom that matched it's ability to quickly survey all of your photos.
'Events' view shows one image for each event (e.g. day or shoot; you can choose which image this is). When you mouse over an event photo it acts like a little flipbook - moving your cursor from left to right flips through all the images in the event in order. When you grab the scroll bar the date will show while your scrolling to make it easy to know when to stop.
I'm not suggesting that Lightroom copy this exactly (though that wouldn't be bad) but that there be some sort of way of looking at my whole collection of photographs at once without having to see every photo.
The closest thing in Lightroom is accomplished by treating stacks like iPhoto events. Doing this I can open the Photos folder to show my entire library and choose to collapse all stacks. Mind you, that's only a workaround. I'd love to see a new way of viewing the Library.

Cloning the JPanel seems the wrong approach to me. If I were you I would separate the model (the data you represent in your UI) from the view (the UI components you use to display the data). So, if you want to duplicate your JPanel (view) you would just create a new one from your existing data model. With that approach, your problem becomes more or less trivial.
Google for MVC, to get you started on different ways of structuring your UI application.Good advice, better stated than in my feeble attempts in these cross-posts:

  • Escape key no longer functioning to back out of photos in Event view

In iPhoto '09, when you drilled down to view a photo in Event view, you used to be able to use the Escape key to step back a level. With iPhoto '11, I have been unable to do this. Is there a setting I'm missing or something?

I just figured out a great solution to this problem! The goal here is to remap the Escape key in iPhoto so that it functions like the Command-Left-Arrow, which currently has all the functions we wish Escape had. The instruction are fairly simple:
Install KeyRemap4MacBook. It's a wonderful program that lets you take control of your keyboard. It's stable and powerful and quick and free.
Follow these instructions which tell you how to add your own custom settings. (Skip steps 4 through 6, which just give you some example settings to add.)
Edit private.xml so that it looks like the following (or at least contains the following "item", if you have other custom settings installed):
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <root>
      <item>
        <name>Escape to Command Left Arrow</name>
        <identifier>private.app_iphoto_escape_to_command_left_arrow</identifier>
        <only>IPHOTO</only>
        <autogen>--KeyToKey-- KeyCode::ESCAPE, KeyCode::CURSOR_LEFT, ModifierFlag::COMMAND_R</autogen>
      </item>
    </root>
Finally, save private.xml, then click "ReloadXML" under the "Change Key" tab of the KeyRemap4MacBook preferance pane. Your new setting should appear at the top of the list. Enable it. Restart iPhoto if you feel like it (you probably won't need to). And now, in iPhoto, Escape should work as you want it to!
NOTE: There is one downside I've discovered. You won't be able to get out of Slideshow mode using the Escape key anymore, as this was the one case where Escape originally functioned sensibly. Rather, you'll have to use your mouse to click the X button to escape. But Slideshow mode is terrible anyway. Just use full screen mode instead.

  • Why can I see photos in photo view, but now event view?

Why can I see photos in photo view, but not in event view. The event shows up, but when I open the event, it says there are no photos in the event. The only way I can actually open a photo in the event is to be in photo view, and open the photo from that view.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • No sound, explorer.exe not starting, no event viewer

I set up a new PC recently and installed Windows 7 Pro. Approximately once every few days I get a problem which, oddly, has several seemingly different manifestations. I mean that if I see one of these, all the others can be observed as well, until I reboot.
    These manifestations are:
Windows Media Player will not play an audio file (.wav, .mp3), usually just hanging. VLC player will not hang but will not produce sound either. Video content is played OK though.
Explorer (if started by left clicking on the toolbar button) will bring up the message “Invalid signature” and won’t start. If started by right clicking and then selecting one of the folders in the “last used” list it will start OK though.
Computer – Manage will dim screen and display a UAC message (normally it would start straight away). After getting through this message, the “Computer Management” window will duly pop up, but it will be missing the Event Viewer item in the left panel.
I could find nothing suspicious in the event logs.

I'm adding another image: Task Manager:
I thought it's worthwhile because total CPU usage shows 12% (and it stayed for a while around that value), but each individual process was consuming 0%.
There were a few error messages in Application and System logs but I think I saw them quite often, so they were not specific for this occasion. They are:
    WMI error:
Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events
cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

  • Iphoto keeps freezing up and events do not show photos, missing photos, constant crashes

I have a recurring issue that is causing major headaches. It involves iPhoto (9.4.3 the latest version currently) and I noticed that photos and videos I had imported seemed to be missing. I started looking deeper and there were photos and specifically videos that I just could not find. I had synced them from my iphone via a cable sync.  What is odd is I found some of them in an event farther in on my events list but that is when more probalems started occuring.  iPhoto froze up on me while I was working with the photos. Now when I open iPhoto I have 3 events that have photos and videos in them but the event do not have a visible photo, instead they show a grey icon with palm trees on it. If I go inside one of these events I initially see photos and videos that I took but if I try to work with them, view them, move them, or split them iPhoto becomes unresponsive and I have to force quit or wait for it to crash.  This is frustrating because I can't really use iphoto lately it always seems to crash and I don't know all the causes for that.  I also feel bummed because I don't know if these photos will be lost or if some of the other photos are lost.  I don't know what to do. I tried verifying my disk and permissions with DU and fixed a few issues there but that did not do anything to reslove this issue.

For finding images be sure your sort is set correctly - view manu ==> sort events
For the crashes backup your iPhoto library, depress teh option and command keys, launch iPhoto an drebuild your database

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key
(alternative is Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information). Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed.
You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload to your Sky Drive, share with everyone and post a link here. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode.
Please upload and share with everyone copies of your System and Application logs from your Event Viewer to your Sky Drive and post a link here.
To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window select Windows
Logs and System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do the same for the Applications log. Do not provide filtered files.
For help with Sky Drive see paragraph 9.3:

Some Event Viewer reports are generated solely because the computer is in safe mode or safe mode with networking. You have at least one example of this in your long list. If you do not see the same report for a time when
the computer was in normal mode then it can be disregarded.
You will find some general advice on interpreting Event Viewer reports here:

  • I have photos that are rotated within a photo stream created from a project even though the photo displays properly within the project. How can I get the photos to have the proper rotation within the photo stream?

I have a photo stream that was created from a subset of photo from a rather large Aperature project. Some of the photos show up rotated within the photo stream but are not rotated within the project. Why is this happening and how do I fix the rotation within the photo stream? I do have the latest version of Aperature and have all of the necessary updates applied to my devices used to view the photo stream. The photos do show up rotated within the photo stream segment of Aperature, so I am sure it is not an issue with the output device (iPad and Apple TV). I do know that I cannot edit photos within a photo stream, but no amount of editing within the project allows the photos to be properly rotated within the photo stream. All help would be greatly appreciated.

That will work, but it is the long way 'round.
As Frank noted, Book Albums are just specialized Albums.  Albums can show any Image in your Library, regardless of where the Album is located on the Library Inspector, and regardless of which Project contains the Image.  You can put your Albums anywhere (in a Folder called "Books" for example).  You can put Images from anywhere in your Library in any Album.
    The easy way 'round:
    - Make a new Book Album
    - Select Images you may want to put in your Book.  Flag them.
    - Select some more.  Flag them.
    - Go to the "Flagged" container (listed near the top of the Library Inspector), select all, and drag-and-drop them to your Book Album.
    - Repeat as needed, or just drag-and-drop directly into the Book Album.
Note that you can remove any Image from any Album (including Books) by selecting and hitting the "{Delete}" key.  This _does not remove the Image from the Project that contains it, or from the Library.
Note, too, that once the Images are in your Book Album, you then put them in the Book you are creating for publication.  The Book Album contains the superset of Images with which you populate the Book itself.  The Book Album also holds the Book.
A good (imho ) introduction to the parts of Aperture can be found in this short guide I wrote.
The User Manual is helpful.  Here is
    the chapter on making Books.
    From that chapter, here is
the section detailing how to create and populate a Book Album.

  • In iPhoto if I select View, then Sort Photos by title, how do I stop it reverting to sorting by date when I close iPhoto and re-open it later?

In iPhoto if I select View, then Sort Photos by title, how do I stop it reverting to sorting by date when I close iPhoto and re-open it later?

In what mode, Events, Photos or in an Album, are you when you select View ➙ Sort ➙ By Title?
As a first fix attempt try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Events show pictures in Events view but have no contents when opened

Hi. Using iPhoto 9.5.1 with Mavericks 10.9.1 with library storage on Mavericks Server. When I go to Events view (under Library on the upper left navigation panel) I see events and on each I can hover over and scroll through and see the pictures. When I double click to open the event, no photos show. When I go to Photos view I see the pictures.
Thoughts on what to do? Thanks.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
