No sleep, no wake, kernel panic (few times a day)
I am positng the panic.log at the end. Unplugged EVERYTHING. Reformatted drive. Reinstalled Tiger. Crash. Tested with orig. Apple Memory. Then with 3rd party. Unplugged Airport Extreme card. Tested with Ethernet. Same problem. G5 Dual 2GHz will not go fully into sleep mode: 23" gets dark, G5 makes the usual sleep preparation noises, but then does not spin down fully, still the top fan keeps spinning. Cannot wake up from this state. Need to 5-sec push power button. After restart sometimes I can work for hours (energy saver set to NEVER SLEEP). Sometimes Kernel panic without having even touched it. Just run out of one-year warranty, but have Apple care. Bring to shop? Never used Apple care (since invention). Will Appple pick up the G5? Does anyone know the English support phone number in Tokyo?
Happy New Year! JK

I'm not good at deciphering KP logs unless there's an obvious stand-out.
Lots of IO stuff listed though, so it sounds like it might be on the logic board.
Sounds like you've done everything you can, so I'd take it back to Apple.
If there's a PMU reset button on the G5 (it will be on the inside if it's there) you might give that a whirl. Could be the power manager... but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Good Luck

I use my PowerPC Quicksilver G4 (2.1), 867 MHz, 1.5 GB standart video card system 10.4.11 to scan (lack of driver for my Mac Pro 10.6.8)
The G4 has been running flawless, now I get kernel panics every time (shut down your computer). When it stays on I get blotched video
left-over spots, tearig and then shut down your computer...
I did all recommended software tests Diskutility, rebuild with DiskWarrior and Apples full Hardware test. Everything comes out fine!
I am at the end of my know how. Thank you for any help

Yes I ran short and the Extended Test. All pass. One of the first things I did is Safe Boot several times I also repaired permissions. Safe boot takes no longer than before the crashes and as long as I stay in safe boot mode it won't crash. What does that mean?I also ran MacJanitor and removed the SCCUZI card Apple put in when I bought the G4 as well as an M-Audio Delta 66 card which I do not use (both) anymore. I also started up on an external firewire drive 10.4.6. It also (crashes) does the same thing.
I was hoping somebody understands the crash report I enclosed? Isn't that suppose to say what went wrong?
Thank you again for your input BDAqua

Kernel Panic every time I plug in my external drive
I'm getting kernel panics every time I plug in an external drive. This is happening on a MacBook Pro as well as on a Mac Mini (G4). Both are running 10.5.6.
The drive is one of the Seagate Barracuda 1.5 TB drives that are having all sorts of other problems. I have it in a CoolMax USB 2.0 enclosure (this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817159076) I've been using this setup for a couple of weeks and didn't have any problems until this morning when I consistently get this kernel panic.
Obviously I can't run Disk Utility on it, unless there's a way to plug it in without it automounting. I could boot my MBP to XP, but the drive has two partitions and both are HFS+. Ideally I would like to preserve the data on the drive. They're only backups, but I don't have access to the originals at the moment, as my main machine is out of commission. Lots of hardware problems lately.
Any ideas?Pondini wrote:
Uh, no, it's not. 4096 is a multiple of 512. Something is backwards somewhere.
Ha, you're right, I didn't even notice that.
I did a google search for that error and found another thread with the same problem but no clues there either: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8833182 -
Is anyone having a problem connecting 400 firewire thru an adapter for the 800 firewire port on a Macbook Pro 2011? It does a kernel panic every time I connect it. Is there a "proper way" to connect it? Just in case it makes a difference I am trying to hook up an Avid Mbox Pro for Pro tools.
What is the part number and model of Firewire adapter?
I have used them in the past without any problems whatsoever.

That error often indicates that the Time Machine drive's filesystem is damaged, so Time Machine can't back up to the drive and it crashes.
As you are backing up to an external drive, open Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities). Then, choose the Time Machine's partition of your external drive in the sidebar, and repair permissions and verify the disk. If it gives you an error, repair the drive. Can you repair the drive? If not, you may have to format the Time Machine drive -
Kernel Panic During Time Machine Backups
I get a kernel panic each time I try and backup using Time Machine. It works fine for the initial backup, but after that each backup causes a kernel panic.
I thought the drive was going out, so I got a new one. It still happens. I have done disk permission checks and run Onyx, as well as checked plists. I have checked through the console around the panics, but do not see anything too crazy. I've checked for kernel extensions, but the terminal command does not bring anything out at all. Any help?

Kernel panics several times a week
My MacBook Pro keeps having continuous kernel panics several times a week. How can I figure out what's causing them?
Hi serylup,
I think I was able to find the cause. I realized that the kernel panics only began happening soon after I bought a Logitech Wireless Bluetooth mouse. Instead of just using the mouse with the Bluetooth connectivity, I also installed the software that came with it.
So, what I did was turn off the mouse and delete it from the list of Bluetooth devices on the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences. Then I went and purged my system of the Logitech additional software. I made sure that all the suspect files like .plist files and Application Support files were removed as well.
Then I rebooted and started using my machine. The kernel panics stopped immediately. I then proceeded to use the mouse but only with the Bluetooth connectivity and no extra software and I haven't had any problems since.
So, I guess what I would recommend you do is to try and figure out if you've installed any third-party software for any peripheral devices (especially if they come from Logitech!!!) and uninstall those third party devices. You really don't need Logitech software for their keyboards and wireless mouses; they work just fine as "plug-and-play".
I hope this helps!

Kernel panics with Time Machine on TC
I have my TC now for 4 days and I had to quit using Time machine as it now seem to creates a kernel panic every time it creates a back up.
I'm really not very pleased with TC. Since I started the initial back up, with ethernet cable, i've had the windows feeling. Initial Back up failed 4 times before i even got to start Time machine working.
Since 2 days i'm noticing drop outs with the wifi connection, this resulted presumably in a faulty back up because since my last dropped connection every Time machine starts creating a back up I get that grey curtain of death.
If the only solution to getting everything working is again to start all over, ill just stop using Time machine as this little box that should do everything in the background has become the most forefront user experience since I got it.shouldn't be doing that. Call AppleCare and use your telephone support for Time Capsule

You will be happy to know that the problem you have is a known issue with Mid 2010 15-inch MacBooks Pro. It's caused by a damaged NVIDIA graphic card.
Apple has found that those computers have unexpected restarts, kernel panics, black screens when OS X switches graphic card. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US
Fortunately, Apple is repairing all of those computers for free, so make a backup of your data and take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller to get it repaired"
I had mine replaced on the weekend. -

I did not activate the mail account as I don;t want my emails to be diverted to my phone as it will cost me since I do not subscribe to a package data.I received a sms from my service provider that I my bill has exceeded 4 months of my regular bill which was shocking to me as I rarely surf the net using my phone , I noticed from my bill that there are daily data package being sent into my phone sometimes a few times a day even at the time when I'm asleep and not using the phone .What is this data packages that is sent to the phone.this is very distressing.can some one help to tell me how can I stop this as my bill is so much that I can buy another iphone .
Turning off 3G does not turn off data connections either. It does turn off high speed cellular data, but EDGE can handle data too (it just can't simultaneously handle voice and data traffic). If you have location services enabled, that will also use data (and not just to get maps if using the Maps app, but also to get/receive data from cell towers for triangulation), as will weather apps, newspaper readers, RSS feeds, and other apps that, when launched, need to go out and update their data stream.
About the only way you can be sure to never use data is to put your iPhone in airplane mode - which pretty much defeats the purpose of even having a smart phone. Really, the best solution is get a data plan. Or sell your iPhone for an iPod touch and a very basic voice-call only cellular phone. -

then reinstall with the offline installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
If the crash still occurs; try disabling Protected Mode in Adobe Reader [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)]. -
Re: I recently re-installed Lion due to a kernel panic prob. A day after reinstallation, twice in a row it happened, but it stopped.
I want to know if this happened just because it was recently installed, or is the kernel panic still bugging my computer? The kernel panics were 3rd party extensions. If the extension is still connected to me, how do I remove it? Again, It only happened twice since reinstallation. The panic did not have a thing to do with reinstalling Lion or not. There is some other cause. Post your recent panic log.
