No sleep option

Hello !
I'm using Lenovo G560 laptop i5 windows 7 32 bit.
For the past year I had the ability to press the sleep \ stand by button in my windows 7 OS, but somehow for some reason it's not pressable anymore so I can't make the laptop go to sleep and I must shut it down everytime I want to leave for a short time and I don't want it to waste energy.
What is the reason for that? What is the solution?
How come sleep mode is impossible anymore? There is no way to make it go sleep hibernate or what ever, closing the lid won't help, Fn function button with the moon button pressing won't help.. maybe you can help me?
Thanks.

  • Bug in new WiFi sleep option may explain 'battery killing'?

Although the WiFi sleep option defaults to the supposed old behavior (WiFi stays connected), it doesn't have any effect. In fact, from what I can tell, WiFi always disconnects when you're sleeping, now, after a minute or so, regardless of the setting.
I've tried re-doctoring without any effect - this option just seems broken (and set to the new, less battery-friendly option permanently).
Perhaps this helps to explain why people are saying 1.4 is 'killing their battery'?

Previously, it seemed that the phone stayed connected to WiFi - thus, if I was logged into AIM, or waiting for email, and I was in a low coverage zone, I would stay connected to the network.
Now, regardless of the setting, after a minute or so the phone disconnects from WiFi. (I can't really tell if it's powering WiFi off completely - it doesn't seem to be.) So, I'm logged out of AIM, and don't get email. If I wake up the device, things reconnect.
That's definitely not how it seemed to behave in 1.3.5.1 -- or, at least, there's been some other change, since the behavior is quite different. I don't think I'm remembering wrong... it was only a few days ago!

  • Turn of the sleep option

Can i turn of the sleep option when i close the display?
i want to keep running mi itunes after i close the display completely

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
The machine is automatically programmed to go to sleep mode when the lid is shut. If it were left on with the lid close, I believe the heat build-up would create internal problems.

  • Sleep option grayed out after apple update

    Hello,
We have had several issues over the past few weeks where about a dozen macs (Macbook Pros, Airs, iMacs, Mac Pros) have all had the same issue, and vary in OS as well; from 10.7.5, 10.8.5 to 10.9.2. They have all updated recently with Apple's new updates. Since then, the sleep option on the Macs have been grayed (greyed) out and it will not sleep or go on screensaver if left on. We want to avoid the burning of an image on the LCD screens.
I've reset the PRAM on a few to see if that will solve it. No go. I read online that manually updating some plist files would fix it or deleting them, and nothing. We need an answer quickly, users are complaining that their macbooks are heating up incredibly, and others feel like they were about to "burst into flames".
If anyone out there has had the same issue and fixed it, please advise.
Also, don't say "Just reformat and start all over"... we run a large business and need a systematic fix, not a bandaid. We are talking also about a dozen (and growing per day) computers having this issue. I am guessing we are not the only ones.
    Thank you.

I know this is pretty old but there is an apple article that tells you how to fix this.
    sudo pmset -a disablesleep 0
Do the above in terminal and as long as you have credentials to do so you will reenable your sleep.

  • Enrolled Macs' "Sleep" option is greyed out

    Hello,
As soon as a Mac is enrolled into our OS X Server it becomes unable to "Sleep." The Sleep option under the Apple menu is greyed out and even closing the lid will not put the Mac to sleep. This has been a big issue because it is killing our machines' battery life.
There are no management settings enabled for any of the Macs, under Profile Manager and they are not in any device groups. There are also no management settings enable for the users of the machines nor are the users in any groups. As soon as they are enrolled, the Sleep option is greyed out and nothing will allow them to sleep.
This was happening with the Server version right before Version 4. We updated hoping Version 4 would resolve this issue but it did not. All help is greatly appreciated!
    OS X Server Version 4 (14S333)
Mac Mini Server purchased in mid 2014
    2.6ghz Quad Core i7 Processor
    16gb of RAM

It appears Apple needs to fix a problem with the "Login Window" Payload in Profile Manager.
To enable sleep on a mac until the settings are pushed out again use terminal and enter the following:
    sudo pmset -a disablesleep 0
You will also need to do this if you remove the "Login Window" Payload from the settings you push out, since the mac won't revert to the working settings.
I notified Apple about this thread.
PS I was able to manually change the config profile (downloaded from Profile Manager) with text editor to get it working the way I wanted, but I only have one client computer. If you do this, there were 2 entries. I found them by searching the config for "sleep". Change the entries from true to false. You can then install the modified settings profile.

  • Wake From Sleep Option Dimmed DBT-120 ver. C1

The bluetooth wake from sleep option is disabled for my Apple wireless keyboard and mouse. I'm using the Apple recommended dlink DBT-120 adapter, version C1. Bluetooth firmware updater 1.2 says my hardware is up to date, so it won't install. Updater 1.2.1 will not run on either of my Macs (G4 MDD or G5 DP), which are both running 10.4.8.
Any ideas on getting the wake from sleep option working with the DBT-120 version C1 adapter?
    G5 2GHZ DP   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Good news - I now have full bluetooth functionality with keyboard & mouse, including wake from sleep, as well as certain start-up key combos. Here's how it did it, after reading numerous related Discussion posts:
    - I gave up on the DBT-120 version C1 adapter, and got an older D-Link DBT-120 version B3 on eBay. The collective experience in the Discussions, and my own, show that the current Apple bluetooth firmware updaters (1.2 & 1.2.1) do not work with the newer DBT-120 version C1. Too bad this isn't clearly explained on Apple's download pages, or in the updater readme files.
    - To help ensure a successful firmware update, I unplugged all other USB devices except the wired mouse & keyboard, booted Panther 10.3.6 from a firewire backup drive, ran no other applications, and prevented the Mac from sleeping.
    - I used bluetooth firmware updater 1.2 (not 1.2.1) to update the firmware on the version B3 adapter. It does indeed take about 15 minutes to complete the firmware update, and goes through several write and wait cycles during the process.
    - After the update was completed, I shut down, and totally removed power from the computer & all peripherals for a few minutes before restarting.
    - Upon restarting, I had to delete the old C1 adapter based keyboard & mouse pairings from Bluetooth Preferences, and create new pairings using the upgraded B3 adapter. (I also marked the keyboard & mouse as Favorites.) I'm guessing this was necessary because some of the bluetooth pairing information must be stored in the bluetooth adapter - it's not all stored in OS X's preferences.
Aside from being able to wake from sleep, the Apple-upgraded DBT-120 (B3) enables smoother mouse operation and more reliable right-clicking.
Guess I'll have to find another use for my new DBT-120 version C1 adapter, unless Apple eventually comes out with an updated bluetooth firmware upgrade for it. Hello, Cupertino?

  • No sleep option, just lock or shut down?

A friend of mine has come across a problem. Her laptop no longer has a sleep option, she just has the option to lock the computer or shut it down. She used to have the option to sleep, change identities and restart the computer but no longer has those options. How does she go about getting the sleep option back.??

What pc? What OS? What exactly has happened and what solutions did she try?

  • No Sleep Option in Windows 7

I just got a new MacBook Pro with Retina display and bootcamped it with Windows 7 Professional.  After running windows update, there were some issues with the keyboard and there was no sleep option in the power management settings.
I repaired the bootcamp drivers from the DVD I had burned and that fixed both problems.
After that I started having problems where the computer wouldn't wake from sleep.  Sometimes it would make noice and the capslock light would go on and off, but the only way to get the display to turn on was to plug in an external display or turn off the computer.
Most of the time the computer wouldn't sleep at all and would just shut down.  When restarting windows, I would be offered the option to start in safe mode and after logging in, I had a message that windows had not been properly shut down.
Today, after booting into windows, I no longer had the sleep option in the shutdown menu or power management.  I tried running the repair from my bootcamp drivers DVD again, but it didn't restore the sleep option.
I'm guessing this is a driver or firmware problem.  Has anyone managed to fix it?

I just found this post in a post related to the Thunderbolt ethernet adapter.
"I successfully installed the driver in Window 7 per Benjamin C's instructions. Yes the Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter does work in Windows 7 Boot Camp, however the SLEEP MODE is disabled after installing the driver. (I am using MacBookPro-Retina)
Somehow Windows complains that the firmware does not support (S3) Sleep mode.
It's unreasonable for a notebook not to be able to quickly go into sleep mode and wake up from it. Hibernate just takes too long.
Apple, please respond to this issue."
I am currently using the Thunderbolt adapter and I am curious if that is the cause. I will have to try to disable the driver that I installed for it to see if it corrects the issue. However, I need the adapter, so I am not sure exactly how to deal with this...

  • "Sleep" option disappeared from power options???

So I have my laptop's power options for closing the lid to sleep, but instead of going to sleep each time I close the lid, it is instead going into hibernation every single time. When I try to fix the issue, the whole "Sleep" option is not even
listed under Power Options > Advanced Settings > Power buttons and lid > Lid close action.
From the drop-down menu, the only three options I see are "Do nothing," "Hibernate," and "Shut down."
    WTF is going on?

    Hi,
Meanwhile, are you able to find the sleep option in other location? Such as in the power button?
Regarding to the driver, I suggest you uninstall the original driver, then reboot mahcine, it will automatically install the driver again, check if issue persists.
Check your power management settings in BIOS, make sure that sleep mode is turned on in BIOS, It's recommended to refer to the manufacture user manual.
Update the BIOS, make sure to have the latest BIOS version

  • Sleep option

My Macbook Pro suddenly takes time to go to sleep when I selct the sleep option. How can I remedy this

Add me to the list of problematic sleep issues with MBP's. I first thought it was the new G-Tech drives causing the problem but after a full 8 hours of diagnostics on my own and with Apple I simple give up.
Not really I'll be *** if I let this defeat me.
Things that I've done to no avail:
Note: this is with NOTHING connected.
    1. Created new Adm user account.
    2. Disabled all the below:
    a. Sharing
    b. BT devices
    c. Put the HD to sleep when possible
    d. Wake for network access
    e. Secure virtual memory
    f. iDisk syncing
    g. Airport
    3. Reset PRAM/NVRAM and SMC
    4. Deleted
    a. (From the HD) /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
    b. (From the HD) /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist
    c. (From the Home Folder) ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
the tilde [~] indicates your home user directory, i.e. /Users/username)
    d. Restarted computer
d1.This was very promising because after the computer restarted, I pressed sleep and it it was
almost instant. However after restarting it was back to it's old ways.
    5. Removed all my login items (4). Canon Scanner Network, Growl, Diskwarrior, and Dropbox.
    6. Started up in Safe mode.
    Any suggestions?

  • Sleep option for display only yosemite 5K iMac

    Hi
I've used a macbook in the past on snow leopard and lion and these had independent sliders for display and computer sleep. My wife bought me a 5k retina iMac at the weekend (i was shocked) and notice it only has a slider for display sleep.
Is this normal behaviour for yosemite on a new iMac? I see there is an option to prevent sleeping when the display is off, so does this mean effectively as soon as the display goes off the computer sleeps? Not good if you are using plea media library on your mac..
    Thanks for any advice.

I noticed the same issue and cannot find any information as to when the iMac actually goes to sleep. It's unclear to me whether "Display off" = Sleep or not.
Meanwhile, there is a nice tool called "Caffeine" on the Mac App Store that will work well for you and your Media Server issue: https://itunes.apple.com/de/app/caffeine/id411246225?l=en&mt=12

  • Sleeping options

Hello. I have a question about when my iMac goes to sleep. Say if something is downloading from Safari and my iMac dims the screen, will the whole computer go to sleep if it's downloading anything (Safari downloads, updating apps in iTunes, syncing large files in DropBox)? Is their an option that if it's performing a task, it'll go to sleep when it's done, or is it set like that automatically?
    Thank you,
    Brandon Lopez

Try disabling the usb selective suspend in advanced power options.

  • Hot corners, sleep option

ive had my mac for a few years and and some times look at the available apple downloads page and cant seem to find anything to extend the options on expose hot corners, when i drag the mouse to the bottom left corner id like the mac to sleep (theres an option for the screen to sleep) has anyone found a program that can help with this
(wasent sure where to post this, no expose forum?)

That is very easy to do with an AppleScript and a little app called CornerClick.
Download and install CornerClick. It is a preference pane and can be installed for one user in ~/Library/PreferencePanes, or made available for all users by putting it in Mac HD/Library/PreferencePanes. Just double click CornerClick after you have downloaded it and it will install itself where you wish by answering the onscreen users question. Be sure to go to Sys Prefs/CornerClick/Settings and enable CornerClick.
Next create this tiny AppleScript with AppleScript Editor. You will find the Editor in Apps/Utilities. Cut & paste the following into the Editor and then save it as a Script. You can save it in Mac HD/Library/Scripts or in ~/Library/Scripts. I named it Sleep.
tell application "System Events" to sleep
After you have saved the Script go to Sys Prefs/CornerClick/Actions. Select the corner that you wish to use. Click + to create a new action for that corner. Select the trigger for the action from the dropdown menu below and any modifier key you wish to use. Choose Run AppleScript from the dropdown menu as the action to perform and then browse to the location where you have stored your script by pressing the Choose button. Close Sys Prefs because now you are finished and your new sleep action should be available by executing the trigger in the corner that you chose.

  • No restart or sleep option under special on desktop..

So, under Special on the desktop where it usually has Sleep, Restart, Shutdown option..
It has neither the sleep or restart option.. Anyone know how I can retrieve those at all..
Using a g4 with Mac OS 9.2, yes i know its an old one, im at work and thats what they have on this one computer i use..
    Thanx in advance

Sometimes if I have to restart my iBook unexpectedly from a nasty system freeze, my Control Strip preference will switch to hide my control strip after I restart.
Perhaps you restarted your system improperly, and/or had to force-reboot your system recently, which may have corrupted that preference and caused simple finder to turn on? Just a thought...

Just wanted to know what's the recommended option in
terms of putting the computer to sleep. What's best
for the computer - "never" or some other time
    option? Thnaks.
This depends. If you are a Hummer driver, you should choose the "never" option. If you want to be energy saving choose something sooner. If you choose the 5 minutes prefrence, you don't have to mess with sleeping it from the apple menu. If you use the computer constantly, even the 1 minute setting would be OK as it counts from the moment you stop using the computer. Waking up only takes 5 seconds from your constant work scedual so the one minute setting might be OK.
