No Sleep Timer or scheduled time on/off!!!

I'm a very new customer.  Just had phone/internet/tv service installed 2 days ago.
Not happy that there is no sleep time or scheduled time on and off on the STBs.  I used both these common features regularly when I was an Optimum customer. I realize I can use the sleep timer on my tv if I like to fall asleep with it on.  But why would Verizon in the very least have the box turn off on its own after say 6 hours of inactivity?
This is the 21st century Verizon!!! When I called I was told there were no plans to add these features.  COME ON VERIZON! GET WITH THE PROGRAM!

Verizon will not be adding a sleep timer. The reason is that while adding a sleep timer to the stb is possible. It will only turn off the STB, not the tv. The TV would remain on. Now in and of itself, this doesnt sound like anything to worry about, until you consider that all the STB updates are done in the middle of the night (2-3am). Updates to the stb turn it on and off as it reboots and updates. This would cause the pic and sound on the TV to come back on in the middle of the night. Not good.
In fact that is the reason for the "press menu to watch fios tv" message on the TV that was added with IMG 1.6.  Many people were turning off the STB and when the pic went blank on the screen, they thought the TV was off too. Then when the STB's updated in the middle of the night, suddenly people were hearing voices in the house. This frightened several people and Verizon responded by putting a message on the screen to let people know that the tv was still on.
No, sleep timer on the STB will not happen. Its a bad idea. But the TV's do have a sleep timer. Now what Verizon should do is to add a sleep button to the remote to control the TV's sleep timer. But who knows if they will do that....
Now while some people would be able to set additional devices to turn off with the STB. Most would not. And Verizon needs and should consider the masses, not the individuals.

  • Automatically turn filters on or off at a scheduled time

    Hi there,
Is it possible for a Blackberry (I have a 9780)  to automatically turn email filters on or off at a scheduled time during night?
This is to allow alerting notification start without me having to manually do it.  (I'll be asleep )
(I want to turn on alerting at say, 5am but not wake up until say 7am)
    Thanks

    Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone can help me figure out how
to turn on and off the XRAID at a specific time. My
electrical bills are crazy. Is there a way to get
    this done?
    Thanks,
    Jorge
I think turning the RAID on and off periodically is a bad idea. But if you really really really want to do this ....
Connect the xserve raid to a 'metered power strip such as those provide by APC. you can telnet to the power strip via the network to power off individual port)
write a script (run on the xserve or powermac that the RAID is connected to (direct or via switch)
    0) quit application (issue a quit command or if the application have a stop command (example databse can be stopped)
    1) unmount volume (must)
    2) issue a telnet command via expect script to control the power strip to power off the array.
If you have java cli access to the array (see alienraid.org).(I have not tried this before.)
    http://alienraid.org/article.php?story=xserveraidtools12&query=command
You can issue a command to execute the RAID admin shutdown command.
Put the master script into a unix cron job.

  • How can I turn off access to the internet at scheduled times?

how can I turn off access to the internet at scheduled times? I use an Airport extreme and several units to extend the range. Kids have multiple devices that I don't want on the network at certain hours. On the other hand, ideally, my wife and I would like to be able to access the internet with our devices after the kid's bedtime and during their school study time.

Every time I turn the computer off or put it in sleep mode... when I come back my wallpaper is gone. I have to keep going back to my pics and getting it back.
Does anyone know why this keeps happening??

Are you choosing it from one of these folders (in my screenshot) or you can also put that picture into the correct folder. The path is:
HD > Library > Desktop Pictures
If you add it to the folder manually, please restart your computer.
And yes, letting it sleep is a good idea, or else the startup disk will spin and the screen may suffer from image persistence if you leave a window or image parked in the same spot too long, so the screensave is a good idea.

3G still won't turn off after hitting home and sleep button at same time. Any other ways to try it?

And when you held them neither the red Off slider nor the Apple logo appeared?
If not then your sleep button is broken, you will need to get it serviced.

  • One day i  was just flipping through my ipod i put it on sleep mode then next time i opened it without me doing anything it gave me an option of ''slide to power off'' i pressed cancel then  it automatically went back to sleep mode it is still happening

One day i  was just flipping through my ipod i put it on sleep mode then next time i opened it without me doing anything it gave me an option of ''slide to power off'' i pressed cancel then  it automatically went back to sleep mode it is still happening my ipod is jailbroken and i didnt fiddle with the settings.. please help.

If it is jailbroken, we are not allowed to help you with that here.  You'll need to seek out other sources of help.  The jailbreaking could potentially be part of the problem, for all I know.
BTW, just a pointer...  punctuation is your friend!  Your post was very difficult to read without any.  Many people will simply stop reading and click the "back" button when encountering something like that, which limits availability of help to you.

  • Is there any way to log off automatically from a WIFI connection every time the device is turned off or goes into sleep mode.

I have a bunch of Apple devices in my house (kids) and don't like the idea of all these devices (iPads, iPod touches, iPhones) always being connected to my home WIFI.  Ideally, I would prefer the devices connect automatically when they are in use by a human and log off the network when they (the devices) go to sleep mode or are turned off.

This is not an answer, more of a question.  I know that when a pad goes to sleep, it drops the connection. We all remember the thousands of posts from folks who had trouble re establishing the connection after waking up in the early days.  What is different now is the use of push, and notifications.  If you have these enabled, doesn't that mean that the wifi needs to stay active?
I notice that I have notifications on the screen that came in while asleep, and I can only believe that the wifi saw them.  This is different from the old behavior or re grabbing the wifi.
So, to Pam, on one the devices you are concerned about, turn off notifications, fetch and push, put it to sleep, and see if it drops off the network.  I am kind of curious.
By the way, having the wifi active has not shown me any battery usage. The router certainly does not care.  Security is at the router end, so if somebody wants to hijack my signal, it does not matter if the pad is active or not.  So I guess I am not clear either on what your issue might be.

  • Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?

Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?
The screen isn't broken because it works after i turn the device off and back on, but after it goes black once, it's only white again.
But it takes the touches although it's only white, because I can answer my phone when I slide my finger on the bottom of the screen, eventhough there in not the button to see.
This is so weird. I have already done everything I can think of that might help. But I cannot think of anything that might be causing it, because nothing has happened to the device.

Let me know if I should start a new discussion instead of opening a new topic here.
My wife's iPhone is the same vintage as mine 3Gs, but has never had the battery problem.  Its affliction instead is that it cannot detect WiFi networks unless it is quite close to the source.  Often, when my iPhone not only detects but shows a maximum cells connection with a network, hers cannot detect the network at all.  In contrast, her iPhone seems to detect ourcellular carrier just as well as mine does.
Is there any help for this affliction?

  • ICal times in left column are off five hours from calendar

I've just noticed that the times on the left side off my calendar are off. It says 7:00 but it's actually midnight (which is correct) and it proceeds ahead like that. For instance, where it says 2:00 it is actuallu 7:00 AM. I can tell this as when i schedule an event in the "block" it gives me the correct time. Also sometimes the week highlighted on the month view on the bottom left, highlights the right week but a month earlier. It's like it has a mind of it's own. Any suggestions?

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • TS4510 'Do not disturb' moon icon still stay on after my scheduled time.

I thought the 'Do not disturb' issue should have solved until I recently slide the 'Do Not Disturb' back to 'ON' and found that the moon icon still stay on after my scheduled time. Restarted the iphone5 (already running iOS 6.1.3) still showed the moon icon.
If the 'Do Not Disturb' is slide to OFF, with a schedule period being set (e.g. 22:00 - 07:00). The moon icon still appear from 22:00, no noise.
If the 'Do Not Disturb' is slide to ON, moon icon always show, phone still ring outside the scheduled period.
Is it what the 'Do Not Disturb' designed to work like this now?
    Thank you.

    'Do Not Disturb' ON
under Notification -> 'Do Not Disturb' Scheduled ON
at schedule time, moon icon APPEAR (~10 seconds delay), ring NOT from 'Favorites' PASS THROUGH
    'Do Not Disturb' OFF
under Notification -> 'Do Not Disturb' Scheduled ON
at schedule time, moon icon APPEAR (~10 seconds delay), right NOT from 'Favorites' PASS THROUGH
    'Do Not Disturb' ON
under Notification -> 'Do Not Disturb' Scheduled OFF
    moon icon APPEAR
Allow Calls From 'Favorites', (test phone not on favorites)
    phone STILL RINGS!
I think the above tests should proof that the 'Do Not Disturb' is not working except showing a moon icon.

  • 2011 MacBook Pro-Sleep light blinks 3 times, doesn't start

Hi there, I was just given a 2011 MacBook Pro 15'-8GB RAM, 2.2Ghz...the medium spec'd model if I am correct.  It worked fine for a little while, but now whenever I plug it into power, it does one of two things.  Either it attempts to come on, hard drive spins up...and then the sleep light flashes 3 times and it powers down.  OR, as soon as it gets plugged in it powers cycles indefinately until I unplug it.  The sleep light comes on for maybe a second, and the hard drive spins up, then it shuts back off and repeats this until I unplug it.
Nothing has been changed from it's stock configuration to I am relatively sure that it isn't a simple RAM problem.
    Any help is appreciated.
Please note that I have already tried things like clearing the SMC and reseating the RAM.

    Means bad memory.

  • Time Machine Schedule

I find the Time Machine schedule for backups too frequent.  Is there a way of changing this schedule rather than doing my backup manually as I'm doing now?  It also uses a lot of space because of this.  Any help will be appreciated.

If you have Time Machine ON, changes on Time Machine Editor will not apply. Remeber to switch OFF your time Time Machine Preferences, as Time Machine Editor will handles the intervals. Maybe that's the problem. Hope this helps.
    Taken from TME faq:
    FAQ
Should I turn the big switch from the Time Machine preferences to OFF?Yes. TimeMachineEditor handles the scheduling itself and has its own ON / OFF switch (which behaves very much like the one from Time Machine).

  • Schedule time to shut down cisco IP phones

    Dear All,
i would like to ask if there is any way to schedule time on CUCM 7 allowing us to shut down cisco ip phones during week ends, and which cisco ip phone models that support this feature.
    regards

    Hassan,
I'm no phone guy but if you want to POWER OFF the phones outside office hours there are serious implications to consider.
If your phones have PCs connected to them, there's a large chance that when the phones go off, the PCs will not be able to reach the network (because VoIP phones do not have bypass functionality).
Another thing is in an emergency, no one can make outgoing/incoming calls.
If this is what you want then you could try EnergyWise if you don't have acess to your CUCM services.  Let's say you want to power off your phones at midnight and power up by 5am the next morning (weekdays):
