No Sleep/Wake Option is a major flaw

I just retired my Blackberry in favor of a new IPhone 3Gs / OS 4. Blackberry had an option to turn the phone to sleep at a predetermined time and wake the unit up at another predetermined time so that we could get at least a certain amount of uninterrupted time to sleep without the phone or e-mail alert systems going off at 3 AM. Some of us that may get emergency calls must leave the phone on, but the e-mail messages at any time of night can be really annoying.
Apple has not incorporated such a feature which means we either turn the entire device off manually or we are forced to leave it on to be awakened at any time of the late night or early morning when anyone or company decides to call, send an e-mail or message.
ATTENTION APPLE: PLEASE ADD FEATURE FOR PROGRAMMING SLEEP/WAKE PROGRAMMED TIMES IN FUTURE UPDATES OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM FOR IPHONE SO WE MAY HAVE AT LEAST A FEW HOURS OF UNINTERRUPTED SLEEP DURING THE NIGHT.

Apple doesn't read these boards--tell them here:
http://apple.com/feedback
Although, people have been asking to schedule various Profiles like that since the original phone was released, and Apple hasn't listened yet. So if this is a dealbreaker, you should probably return the phone rather than hoping it's coming soon.
Your description of why you need this isn't really making sense, but you can turn the alert sound for Mail off manually, that may help. There is also a Silence button.

  • Sleep wake not working

    Hi,
I´ve been having a problem with my Ipad 2, I´ve had it for over a year using a smart cover (marware), but yesterday the sleep/awake function stopped working all of a sudden.
    THE PROBLEM
I thought it could be the magnets not aligning, but then I noticed that the sleep/awake button would´t work either, although if you press it for a few seconds it will prompt the turn off slider. Even more strange, if you switch off the smart cover function, the sleep wake button works normally.
    WHAT I HAVE DONE
    Check magnets alignment
    Turn it on/off many times
Restarting many times (holding both buttons for over ten seconds)
    Restoring settings
Erasing data from iTunes (factory settings)
Erasing settings from iPad (welcome screen and all that stuff), getting from iCloud my old settings, previous to the problem
Erasing settings from iPad (welcome screen and all that stuff), starting as a new iPad
The problem started when I attached the usb cable to a computer that was starting up, then disconnected while said startup was in process. It´s not a huge issue, it´s working perfectly besides that, but it´s quite annoying and the battery life will be affected.

So it fixed itself I don't know how but I turned off the Smart Cover  sleep wake option for approximately 4 days and during that time didn't charge it once then charged it, turned it on and for no reason turned the option back on and it works if anybody can figure out why let me know thanks

  • No Sleep/Wake button option under Settings

I just had my ipod nano replaced, and there is no Sleep/Wake button option under Settings anywhere (In Music, etc.) I had no problems finding it and setting it up in my previous nano (need to useit for the next song option when I work out.) Did Apple go away with it?

The sleep/wake button can be used for the following functions (according to the indtruction manual pdf file you referenced) - "
Music settings let you customize how you listen to and play back music on iPod nano. To see these settings, tap the Settings icon on the Home screen and then tap Music. Here are the Music preferences you can set:
    "Sleep/Wake Button
Choose whether double-clicking the Sleep/Wake button pauses or plays the current track, or plays the next track."
I used it in my previous iPod to play next track (a great option for a runner, instead of having to use the touch screen.)
However, the new iPod I was given after I started having issues with my previous one after a few weeks of use, has no way to assign any functions to the sleep/wake button, as there is no icon/option for the sleep/wake button under Settings/Music, at least not in my new iPod.
Hence I am wondering if it is a glitch in my particular iPod, and I need to get it fixed through Apple, or, given all the issues people seem to be having with sleep/wake button getting stuck after a few months of use, they decided to just disable any fuctions for it, besides the basic sleep and wake.

  • My sleep/wake button is stuck, out of warranty options?

Alright, my iPhone 4's sleep/wake button became stuck last Sunday, and hasn't popped out at. I have an appointment on Sunday with the Geniuses but since my phone is out warranty, I'm expecting my wallet to take a hit. Are there any options available in relation to repairing my phone instead of paying $200 for an out-of-warranty replacement?

you can always google to see if there's an iPhone repair shop near you and see what they charge.....

  • SLEEP/WAKE PROBLEM on my Macbook Pro 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

    Greetings!
I love APPLE. So APPLE, please do try to help me out here...
The first problem I encountered was a faded translucent bluish/grayish rectangular line stretching from top to bottom suddenly showing up. I've shown this to our local APPLE technician and my LCD was replaced. Nice job here APPLE!
Now for the latest problem occurring as I'm writing this post. When I have my laptop fall into sleep, for say at least 5 minutes, and attempt to wake it up.. the user interface doesn't show up. The screen remains black and that pressing any key on the keyboard or clicking the mouse will automatically restart the laptop always (I do hope my internal hard disk won't be damaged from this reoccurring dilemma of mine). I've observed that this current problem started after my LCD was replaced.
Does anybody have the same problem as I have? If so, please do give me possible solutions for this? I've already talked with our local APPLE technician and told me that there might be some problems with the motherboard inside that may opening the laptop might be necessary.
Still... No worries APPLE (as of yet), I still love it even though it's my first time using such a wonderful invention of technology.
    Fathom Graphis

Hi. This is Fathom Graphis again.
Reading one of the threads that mentions an individual asking for help from an Apple certified technician with a problem that's quite the same as mine, I followed the instructions given by this Apple technician that there may be an application or some device activated in the "SHARING" folder (under *System Preferences*) that's causing the problem of the laptop not waking up and requiring hard reset to get back to the Mac OSX user interface.
So, I checked my sharing folder and found that my *"PERSONAL WEB SHARING"* option is activated (Under the SERVICES menu). I deactivated (unchecked) it and tested my laptop sleeping function by shifting the PUT THE COMPUTER TO SLEEP arrow to 1 minute and letting the laptop sleep for 10 minutes. After which, I moved the mouse and the MAC OSX User Interface came abruptly and the laptop didn't restart. I tested it again by letting it sleep for another 10 minutes and waking it up through mouse click and the MAC OSX User Interface showed up abruptly and the laptop, again, restarted.
So far, I'm still putting my laptop under observation. But I just want to inform everybody with their supposed respective SLEEP/WAKE problems on their Macbook pros (or Macbooks) that this may solve their issues (though I provide no guarantees, okay? I'm just a common user who happen to find a solution accidentally).
Still I want to address APPLE that certainly, letting your laptop sleep and waking it up and restarting itself after with the Personal Web Sharing activated (or checked under System Preferences > Sharing > Services) is indeed a "bug" that needs to be fixed. So hopefully, the people at APPLE would try to resolve such an issue as soon as possible (because, to my knowledge, sudden restarts of Hard Disks may cause data damages). God Bless You All.

  • Help with Wake Options!

    Hi there,
So, I've been having this reoccurring issue that when I get back after an hour or two my iMac seems to have woken up from a screen saver mode (or even display sleep or sleep).
I've got a sneaking feeling that's been happening since Wake for Ethernet network admin access has been checked in the wake options. The only thing on the network with that iMac is my MacBook Pro, which is off...
I've unchecked the wake for admin access by now, but I'm just desperately finding answers or hints as to how it can wake from screen saver (or sleep)? I'm a little concerned for the well being of my display (i.e. burn-ins) and the general welfare of my machine!
Any help most welcome! Thanks in advance.
    /s0l

Great thanks for the info! Also at the same time wanted to keep my display has healthy as possible and have it sleep whenever I don't use it...
As for checking the wake options, I've unchecked it anyhow. The reason was what would happen if my mac's asleep and I needed to access via Back to mac and my machine is sleeping.... But I guess that was just a misconception on my side.

  • Tip: How I got my mini 2011 to sleep/wake !

I have a new Mini Server 20011 (Lion) for two weeks now (not used as a server). It wouldn't sleep nor wake, right from the first start-up. After going through all the discussions on this issue for several evenings, today I stumbled upon a solution that worked for me. I feel like sharing that!
There are a lot of discussions on this topic, with a lot of different situations mentioned. To make it more confusing it is also often suggested that a Mini Server will not sleep at all (seems logical).
Instead of going to sleep my Mini Server would only shut down the video signal instead (no blinking). When asked to wake up (or better: to return video signal) it would not react. The only option then was to shut it down with the power button and then re-boot.
    Here is what has worked:
(Key seems to be going to sleep only once with no active connection to external devices.)
    1) Connect only two devices: a screen and a wired Apple mouse
    3) Manually turn of both airport and bluetooth from their icons.
    4) Using wired mouse, select sleep from apple menu.
    5) Mini immediately goes into sleep mode (pulsing light), wait a few pulses.
    6) Wake up by moving wired mouse, wakes up immediately.
    7) Restart airport card and bluetooth manually from icons, few seconds later, all hooked up.
After that wake/sleep is OK (also after next boot-up).
This appears to be a problem with many alternative sources based on your machine and configuration.

Hey, it's a simple fix that should give most people what they want until there is full VZW support: the ability to use their card with the VZAM software.  I didn't see anyone else offering that suggestion...  If you don't want to use it, you don't have to.
At the very least, this does seem to prove the theory that this is an issue with the 32/64bit compatability that some have refuted.

  • What's wrong with my sleep/wake button?

My sleep/wake button has just started failing. Sometimes when I press it, it doesn't work. Sometimes I have to press it up to 3-4 times in order to either put it to sleep or into a wake mode. I thought it was my cover, but I removed it and this still happens. I've reset the phone a couple of times but it remains the same.

We don't want to test your patience and press your buttons when you're trying to press your button TonyMart! If this is still going on, we may need to look into replacement options. Is there any damage to the device? How long have you had your device? If it is < 14 days, please return it to the original store you purchased it from. If you ordered online/over the phone, please follow and DM me with your name/mobile number. I'll call you and review replacement options. Keep me posted!

  • Sleep/wake button not working - fixing in Israel?

    Hi all,
I'm a proud owner of an iPhone 5. In the last week I've noticed that my Sleep/wake button is not functioning.
I've Googled it a little and understood that it's a common problem, and if I'll step into a Apple store in the US
they will replace my iPhone with a new one, no questions asked.
The problem is that I've purchased my iPhone 5 in an Apple store in NY, and I live in Israel.
Here in Israel, there's only an official reseller, and a few cellular networks who sells the iPhone 5 officially.
What are my options to fix/replace my iPhone 5 without coming to the NY Apple store (which is not possible
    for me at the moment)?
    Thank you!
    Erez.

    Morning Erez Carmel,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Sleep/Wake button will not lock or unlock iPhone
To lock the phone, press the Sleep/Wake button. Note: By default, if you don't touch the screen for a minute, iPhone locks automatically.
To unlock iPhone, press the Home button or the Sleep/Wake button, then slide the slider.
If either of the above steps don't work, try turning iPhone off and then on again.
If the iPhone will not power off, reset it.
Try to lock or unlock the phone.
    Hope this helps,

  • Stuck sleep/wake button

Hi everyone. I have an iPod for almost 6 months and in its second month I cracked its screen. But it was a really small crack, it didn't even bother me in. It was only there on the right bottom side and I was happy with it.
Last week when I was changing the song suddenly the sleep/wake button was stuck.
I knew they would change it for free because of the warranty. But they say since the screen is cracked, ipod is out of warranty and I have to pay 150$ for replacement of the sleep/wake button+the screen. It is ridicilous.
    I really need help.
    I can't

I dropped my phone and the button became stuck as well. The phone would begin to go into reboot mode as soon as it went to "sleep". I went to the Apple Store and they explained that it would cost the usual $250.00 to fix.
SHORT TERM FIX: In my case, I turned off the auto-lock option and left the screen on all the time. My phone only went into reboot mode when it went to sleep. This kills the battery life (and I carry the charger with me 24/7) but the phone still works. This is a short term solution. With 3G iPhones coming out soon (hopefully next 2 or three months) I did not want to spend $250.00 on repair. New Apple products are hard to predict so I probably wrong but I did not want to spend that much when I could get a new (and probably much better) phone down the line.

  • How to go about Iphone5 sleep/wake button replacement program in Saudi Arabia

The sleep/wake button of my iphone5 doesn't work. Aware of the replacement program but literally no help from the service provider in KSA. It's been 4 months since my warranty expired. Any ideas anyone?

My iPhone 5 falls under both Battery and Sleep/Wake button replacement program. It was given to me as a gift by somebody and I found out that the country of purchase was US. Most of the time we can get Apple product in the market that originally purchased in the US and then brought and sold to different countries. When I contacted Apple Technical support for my replacement, I was told that I need to send my phone to US for this repair. I am currently in United Arab Emirates and don't know many people in US whom I can send the phone to take it to the Apple Store for repair. Since Apple has authorized service providers and Store in my country of residence, can you please provide the solution in this regard that is much more convenient than sending the phone to US?
Will await a simpler solution and reply.

You were given the solution already by Apple, why do you feel you need to ask again?
    There are no international warranty.
Your two options 1. send it to someone in the U.S.  2. fly to the U.S.  that is all.
