No software update button for my Iphone 4.

Hello, I just bought a used Iphone 4 from Verizon today. I wanted to download the facebook app and when I went to do so it told me that i would need to download the iOs 4.3. At that point I looked through it and asked a friend that also has an iphone 4 and he said to look in the Settings > General > Software Update. I did that and could not find the software update, I then looked through everything in the setttings and could not find it. Am I missing something or is it really not there?

The software update function in settings did not arrive to the iphone until the release of the operating system 5. The current operating system is 5.1.1. To get the software update button under general in settings you must first connect your iphone to a computer with the latest version of iTunes and select update. Once your iphone is running IOS 5, you will be able to do all future updates directly from the phone without connecting to a computer.

I can't find the software update button on my iPhone 4, it's missing. I went to settings> general>the there was no software update button! How can I get it back????

iTunes, you must Update or Restore the Firmware to iOS 5.1.1 the first time (to system 5) with iTunes. After that you can update via the Air.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • HT4623 I have an iphone 4 but no software update button.  How do I update iOS?

I have an iphone 4 but no software update button.  How do I update iOS?

iOS version prior to ios 5 do not include a way to update the iOS over the air on the device itself. You must use iTunes on the computer you normally sync with to complete the update.
Start iTunes on your computer and use the menu to check for updates. If an update to iTunes is available download and install it.
Then start iTunes on your computer and connect your iPhone. Select your iPhone in the left column of iTunes and select General in the right column. Scroll down to find Check for Updates.

  • HT4623 i don't have the "software update" button in the general settings bit on my unlocked iphone 3GS? how do i update my iphone 3gs?

i have an unlocked iphone 3gs, and i want to update it. it doesnt have a software update button in the settings section under general. how do i do it? would i have to plug the iphone into the computer of the person who used it before i did? please help!

Plug it into itunes with the USB cable.  The over the air update feature is a new feature, not part of iOS4, so you do not have it to use until you update.

What version of iOS software do you have currently?
You can also update in iTunes:
Select the device in iTunes and you can find this on the summary page. All 3rd party app updates are done through the App Store updates tab.
    Hope this helps!

Does anyone know how to update the software on an iPhone 4 when there is no software update button?!
    Many thanks.

Update it from iTunes on a computer as described at the bottom of this article; devices running an iOS version prior to 5.0 can't be updated straight from the device. It will be updated to the newest iOS version supported by the device’s hardware.
