No software update on Intel iMac?

Hi all,
Just got a new Intel iMac 20" and installed DVD Studio Pro 4 from the original DVD. Wanted to upgrade to 4.0.3 via Software Update but it doesn't show a single update available, not for Compressor, not Pro Runtime etc...
Is this because it's an Intel iMac? Will there be other updates or do I have to wait for a universal binary version? Is DVDSP not officially supported on Intel?

Without actually having an Intel mac to hand I can't be sure - but can you not go to the Apple website and manually download the update?

I have just agreed to software updates on my imac and now can't open my mail.  There is a message saying this version of mail isn't compatible with this latest software.  I have located the updated mail in the applications folder but it won't open. I don't have the original operating software disk.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Your reply suggests that you have moved Mail to a different location, which (as I said) will prevent it from being properly updated. You cannot use Mail 4.5 with any recent version of Mac OS X. Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) included Mail 5 and Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) includes Mail 6. I'm assuming that you have either Lion or Mountain Lion, but if that is incorrect, you will need to provide that information.
At this point, you will need to reinstall your system. Hold down command-R at startup and reinstall the system right on top of the old one. This should not disturb any of your documents or applications, though you should have backups beforehand in case something goes wrong. And at this point, with your system in an uncertain state (I don't entirely know what you have done to it), something could go wrong.
You will also want to delete the old copy of Mail 4.5, wherever that is. You can't use it.
In the future, do not move any of the preinstalled applications. Leave them where they are.

  • Trouble with Software Update on my iMac

    Hello Mac Community -
I am trying to run software update on my iMac. Everything seems to be fine, the software update runs, it finds 11 updates. Then, when I hit "install items" a little box pops up asking me to restart the computer. I do so, but when I return to software update, none of the updates have been installed! They are all still listed in the software update box.
I've gone through the motions three or four times, and each time it is the same. It feels a little bit like groundhog day.
Any help would be helpful. I have Mac OS X 10.6.8
    Thanks, Angela

    it finds 11 updates.
Repair permissions and restart your computer.  Install 2-3 updates at a time.  Repair permissions & restart after each installation.
Never install more than 3 updates at a time.  Your system will thank you.

Gray screen could be any number of things, bad third party at boot kext file, a bad Apple one, a bad install/upgrade of OS X, drive corruption etc.

  • Anyway to update an intel Imac 10.4.4 restore disk to 10.4.5

When i put the Intel Imac disk into my MBP to reformat it gives me and error. I later found out you need a 10.4.5 disk to install on a MBP. Is there any way to slipstream the update and reburn osx install disks like you can do with windows?

Well, even if you could it would violate the software license. You cannot install the software on more than one CPU at a time unless you have a multi-user license. The discs that come with your computer (or your GF's) carry a single-user license and can be used only with that computer.
Furthermore, asking for help on these forums that would involve an illegal activity is a violation of the Discussion's Terms of Use. Apple does not look kindly on offering assistance for pirating their software. I'm sure you can appreciate that.

  • Re installing software on a Intel iMac vers. 4.1

I have an 20.1 inch white Intel iMac, vers. 4.1, which came with 10.4.4 install discs. I have updated it
through the 10.5 to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. BUT I have lost the OSX10.5 (Leopard) install disc
and wonder if the machine crashes, and I have to install the software from scratch, would it be
possible to install software directly from Snow Leopard, without having to use the original discs
AND the OSX 10.5 discs first. Or do I have to buy the OSX 10.5 retail disc again, which is difficult to
obtain these days, and is quite expensive if one finds one. Thanks for reply, Karel.

Thanks, Kappy, that's excellent, I do have the Retail Snow Leopard. A load off my mind. All the best, Karel.
Sorry, pressed wrong button, the 10 points (solved my question), should go to you.

  • Error in updating my intel-iMac

I am have problems updating any of my OX on my intel-IMac with version 10.7.2. Tried the software and manual update but keep getting errors and stops the download. It will not let me up date some of my application ether. What can I do to fix this?

The application is the new version of OS X Mountain Lion. But it gives me errors with every application update I try. Adobe reader, Microsoft Office updates, or trying to install Silverlight. I am running a iMac with
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74),
Graphics  AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB,
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Processor  2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
I tryed the automatic software update and manual also but I still get errors. The automatic software update says I have 6 new updates but when I download them and try to install, then I get an error message that the could not be installed. I have administrator permission and tried to fix the verifications on the HD also.

  • I have just updated software updates for my iMac and I am still not able to get Firefox 4 to be accepted by Snow Leopard - how can this be solved?

It appears that a number of people have had this problem, but I have not found a comprehensive location that will solve the compatibility problem between Snow Leopard and Firefox 4. Does this require the services of a tech to solve?

    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

i did every thing you said and when i went to restore this is what happened: the ipod software update server can not be contacted. make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later. what do i do to restore.     i used the last way to do it the dfu

  • Software compatibility with Intel iMac

I know it's rather early in the game, as it were, but does anyone know if Appleworks comes bundled with the new Intel iMacs. I don't see it listed, but could this be an oversight? Or is Apple getting away from it? I have used it for quite some time and I have many documents in Appleworks, but have no idea what I'd do with them if I got a new Intel iMac--sure, convert them, but to what? I don't look forward to having to "tweak" each doc, as I have had to do in the past when converting from one program to another . . . . Anyone know?

Not yet. Peggy, one of the Appleworks mavens here, is at macworld and is going to try to find out for us.

  • Check Point VPN-1 Secure Client Software Compatibility w/ Intel iMac

Is this SW compatible with the new iMac? I'm trying to install a Secure Client SW but it stops in the middle of installation giving out only a general message - there were errors during the installation. Please help.
    Thanks.

The CheckPoint VPN-1 Secure Client software is only compatible with Mac OS v 10.3 (Panther). I had the same issue and am waiting for CheckPoint to update the software.

  • What is the best solution these days for running PC software on my intel iMac?

I have some special software that only runs on Windows operating system.  Can I use a PC emulator software package or can I partition my hard drive and install Windows?
    I have a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory.
    I amusing  OX X Version 10.9.3

    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
         1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows
XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  For Boot Camp
4.0 and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the
computer into OS X or Windows.
         2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software
virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
             with OS X.
         3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that
enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
         4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
applications without having to install Windows.  The
Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
         5. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
             Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Benchmarks of all of the above except Crossover can be found in Benchmarking Parallels, Fusion, and VirtualBox Against Boot Camp - The Mac Observer. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Netmeeting compatible video conferencing software for the Intel iMac?

I am currently using XMeeting V0.2, but the received video leaves a lot to be desired. The image quality, even at a slow frame rate and on a gigabit LAN, is no where near as good as on a PC running Netmeeting. In contrast, the transmitted video is perfect. I've played with the settings, but nothing seems to help. Anyone using XMeeting? If so, what settings are you using? Any other video conferencing Intel Mac software (free to cheap) I should try?

    The only one listed on
    http://www.applechat.info/
    for Netmeeting is:
    ohphoneX
Don't know if it is Intel Mac compatible.
You may also want to find out if any of the Windows solutions work well on Boot Camp or Parallel's Workstation, or Wintel Mac OS X which offer the ability to run a variety of Windows versions on Intel Macs.

  • Slow / Sluggish iMac after Software Update

After recently running Software Update on my iMac, every program is now running extremely slow.  My iMac is slow to start-up, and importing files into iTunes and iPhoto seemingly takes forever!  Basically any function that must access the hard drive is now acting very sluggish.
I am using an iMac with a 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and 3 GB of RAM (the max for this model).  The versions of software installed are:  OS X 10.6.8, Safari 5.1, iTunes 10.4, and iPhoto '11 ver. 9.1.5.
Is there anything about these recent software updates that could explain why accessing the hard drive is now very slow?  BTW there is no indication that Spotlight is still indexing.

Please detail all you have done to resolve your issue.  Need this information so that the users can avoid the "been there, done that" scenario type responses.  This is to avoid repeating the troubleshooting you may have already tried.  Thank you.
For instance:  Did you repair permissions and restart your computer after updating?

  • Software update on iMac. Trying to update software I get message "an error has occurred. the request has been timed out" how do i know if there are updates?

Am trying to update software through "Software Update" on my iMac (latest Lion operating system).
I keep getting message "An error has occurred. The request timed out"
How do I know if there are software dates available to down load.

Two things, bushmanernie (love the name)
First what version of Lion are you running and have you downloaded any Combo updates since you installed it.
Second; I see you only have 10.6.2 in your profile.   You might like to update it.
I don't have Lion myself but I'm guessing you don't have the very latest version.  You can check what should be available through the opening Apple support page > downloads.
