No song labels

When I transferred songs to ipad 2 (synced)- has no song names or artist names-just numbers.  Have labels on PC but lost in transfer.

One more thing: When I connect the iPod first, it appears on the desktop, but when appears in iTunes disappear from it. If I try to restored with iPod Utility it says "connect your iPod"

  • ITunes store - Songs labeled completely wrong

    Hi
On January 28th 2011 I purchased "Hvalborg" by the Danish group "Shu-bi-dua". Despite the song title, the song was another..
Later I encountered the same problem with other songs by the same group. I checked the album: Shu-Bi-Dua 1-9 deluxe. All songs are labeled wrong Not good!

  • When burning song onto a CD, the song is correct, however song label is not

I burned a single song from iTunes onto a CD for my nephew. When I got to their house and input the CD into their computer, the song title and information was for a completely different song of mine. I was worried I had burned the wrong song. After playing the CD we realized it was the right song, but the wrong label. I am concerned that this might apply to many songs. I will next burn a bunch of songs onto a CD to validate if it happens again. Has anyone had this happen before? Is there any suggested corrections? Between this and my iPhoto exclamation thumbnails appearing I have become very irritated of late with Apple.

How did you get the song title to show up? The songs I have are original, not something purchased and I'd like them to show up (rather than Track 1 or 2, etc). If I try and send them to Apple I get the "these songs don't exist we can't sell these songs so you can't name the tracks" message. Also, whenever I title the CD with "compliation" or "My songs" or "whatever" when it launches, it's called "AUDIO CD." But I can name data? Why is this?

  • How do I stop i-tunes from changing the genres for my songs without my consent?

Lately, itunes has been taking the genres I've set for my songs and changing them without my consent or say so.  I change them back to what I want, i-tunes changes it back to what it wants, etc..
For example, I might list something as "Rock", but i-tunes decides it's "Pop" or "Alternate Rock" and edits my file's meta-data unilaterally.  I might decide I want a category called "Christmas Music", but i-tunes decides the genre is "Holiday Music".  I even have a few songs labeled "Urban", and i-tunes tries to change them to "Hip-Hop/Rap" or "Rap/Hip-hope".  I took a lot of time with my large music collection to get this stuff exactly the way I wanted it- simplified.  I-tunes is screwing it up.
This is *my* music.  I even bought it all legally on a limited budget.  I get to decide what genre I want it listed as.
Is there a setting or something I can change to get i-tunes to stop messing my music genre data?  Or do I have to find a new music player?
I've got a long suffering ipod classic I was thinking of replacing at some point, but I may leave the i-tunes ecosystem entirely over this instead.  To make things worse, my ipod with it's troubled syncing and broken buttons now has to deal with constantly recopying files with new genres every time I sync and itunes or I have changed something in our constant man versus machine battle- just try have hundreds of songs recopied each time without an error on something that barely can handle normal syncing after reconnecting 10 times or so every sync because it doesn't take the first 9 times.
I don't want to fight my music player.  I just want the thing to work and do what I instruct it to do.  Either that or I'm going to have to rename it "HAL" and start calling myself "Dave" ala 2001: A Space Odessy.  Because this thing seems to be turning on me.

Ugh.  I thought I was exagerating when I said song name changes were next.  Apparently, I was literally correct.  I haven't seen it yet personally, but Tooltomus says he has.
I thought the genre changes had stopped, only to see that they'd started up again a few minutes ago.  This is getting really old really fast.
Again, why does Apple seem to think it can do whatever it wants to our bought and paid for music without our permission?  This isn't about interface changes or whatever, which are all well within their rights, but to actually alter our files themselves without asking or even notifying us.  They've got to be kidding...  Isn't there some way to turn this off?
Why are they doing this?  What's the point of it?  Is it intentional or some kind of bug?  Is anyone from Apple going to bother to even tell us?
I feel like I had some great music software and a great music player.  I've used them for hours every day for years.  I really love smart playlists and a whole bunch of features.  It's very upsetting to see them go in this direction.
You know, record companies and music sellers have been pushing the idea of legally purchased files for years, saying it's just the same as CDs or whatever.  And I've been dutifully buying my files this whole time from various legal sellers instead of pirating them.  And now they're basically doing the equivalent of breaking into my home and messing around with my CDs- scrobbling all over the covers and album booklets, etc..
Why even have a genre setting the user can change if the program is going to keep overriding it and change genres?  Why even have a song setting the user can change if the program is going to keep overriding it and change song titles?  What happens when the program gets something wrong?
Anyone know how to turn this off?  Would going back to itunes 10 help or is this coming from the server to every version of itunes?  Is there other music player software that will leave my music alone that will preserve my playcounts, ratings, playlists, last played, and so on and so forth, and support syncing to my ipod?  Can I somehow cut itunes off from contacting apple's servers to look up information and make these changes?

  • Most of my music won't play, and the songs have exclamation points.

I upgraded my itunes, and now most of the music won't play, and they have exclamation points next to them. When I click on a song, it says "original file cannot be found" I clicked on locate, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Any suggestions?

Hello, I too had this same problem. I was very lazy about going through EACH song trying to select & fish for it in a folder (I have a lot of folders total of 1,979 songs). I called Apple & they told me to go to my iTunes go to FILE scroll down then ADD FOLDER.. Since everything was just out of place & didn't know where to even begin I basically deleted ALL songs from my LIBRARY & then added each folder. It literally took me less than 20 minutes. Dont worry if you have your songs labeled a certain way (Artist, name of song, genre in iTunes) everything will go back to normal. Hope this helps as it helped me! I put it aside for 2-3 years! Good luck!

  • Weird iTunes Match issue - song correct on computer and iPhone, wrong on iPad

    I hope someone can help.
I use iTunes Match for my mobile devices, with my main home PC being the golden source/reference.
Most songs work fine on my computer, iPhone 4S and iPad3 using iTunes Match ... however a few songs are incorrect on the iPad.
For example, Kelly Clarkson "Breakaway" is plays correctly on computer and iPhone, but a completely different Kelly Clarkson song plays on the iPad (a song we don't even own!).
    Troubleshooting ...
    a) on iTunes on my computer, iTunes match is up to date and the 'problem' songs are listed as "Matched" in the iCloud Status column.
    b) on the iPad, I've tried turning off iTunes match, then re-enabling iTunes match - same issue occurs - the Kelly Clarkson songs show up, but the 'wrong' song plays
    c) I've tried restarting the iPad ... no change.
I've read other threads with similar issues - they say contact support - but my systems are out of full warranty and there doesn't seem to be a way of contacting support without paying.
Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Hi - thanks for the response.
    A couple of points/questions
    1) I did further debug by deleting the song from my computer (leaving the song in iCloud) - then downloading from iCloud .... the song labeled Kelly Clarkson 'Breakaway' in iCloud is not the correct song .... this isn't coming from my system, as the song was 'Matched', not 'uploaded'.
    2) I rechecked my iPhone ... the Kelly Clarkson song 'Breakaway' which plays correctly is stored locally on the phone ... it's not coming from iCloud/Match.
    3) You mention removing "Music" from the iPad .... how is that possible? I can remove apps that I've downloaded, but don't know how to remove 'native' apps (like safari, music etc.). Also - based on my further troubleshooting, this clearly isn't an iPad issue any more ... it's an error with Apple iTunes Match catalog.
Any ideas on how to contact Apple (without me paying!) to have this resolved?

  • Not matching purchased songs in iTunes match

I purched a sampler of sons from iTunes, but when I signed up for iTunes Match it did not match this sampler album.

    Bob Clark wrote:
    Problems include:
    - over 1000 songs labeled uploaded when they should be matched.
    - often some songs from the same album are matched and others uploaded
    - albums purchased from the itunes store sometimes show some songs matched, some purchased, some ineligible, and some removed, sometimes all for single album.
These are realities of the iTunes Match service. No, that isn't satisfying, I agree. However just because a track is available in the store does not mean that track will "match" to what is in your library. Apple's matching algorithyms are based on a variety of criteria which we have been able to determine include the waveform of the song, file size, song length and probably other things we are not aware of. If a track doesn't meet these criteria it isn't matched.
As to why purchased music might be "matched" instead of "purchased" this is a little easier to answer because it is directly related to what is available in your store purchase history. So if you have an album that has 6 "purchased" tracks and 2 "matched" this generally means the tracks are no longer in your purchase history. Even if that same album is available in the store it may not be the same files you originally purchased. For example I have a copy of The Rolling Stones' Black and Blue in my library that I purchased from the iTunes store. This album is still on the store, but it is no longer in my purchase history because the copyright owner made changes at some point and remove the exact version of the files I originally purchased. So now this album in "matched" in my library and it not available for me to download it again. Again, this is frustrating and not satisfying and I voiced my extreme displeasure to the iTunes Store rep that I was originally working with about this policy but it is what it is and there's not anything I can do about it so I live with it and make sure I have backups.
The hiding/unhiding trick can sometimes work to restore missing tracks to albums in your purchase history but my success rate has been rather low. YMMV.
So, if you are looking at iTunes Match with the expectation that it will "match" 100% of the non-iTunes purchases in your library you will be disappointed. At this time there really is no way for and end-user to force a song to "match."

  • Ipod song artist sync problem

In Itunes, I have all my songs, labeled by Artist, when I click the browse, eye, icon, I can browse those artists.
When I sync my ipod and navigate to artists, it often shows a fraction of the songs that are actually by the artist. Yet I can get to the songs not shown under that artist, under songs, and while playing shows who the artist is.
For example, lets say I have 8 Ac/Dc tracks. I go to Itunes>browse>Ac/Dc. There are 8 tracks, I cmd+a them all edit there info to all have "Ac/Dc" as their artist. I sync my ipod. navigate to Music>Artist>Ac/Dc and only 3 songs appear.
Now lets say one of the songs missing was "TNT" I then go to Music>Songs>TNT,
it plays showing its artist as "Ac/Dc"
Then I go to search and search "Ac/Dc" i click on the artist and there is only a few tracks. (not all 8)
Any Help? Its quite annoying. It might have to do with ID3 tags, not that I would know.
(btw, I have reinstalled Itunes, restored my ipod, restarted my computer to no avial. I am using the most current software for itunes and the ipod.)

It could be that you have inadvertently imported these CDs into iTunes as part of a compilation. If so, the artists won't show in the artists menu on the iPod.
To check, highlight the tracks on one of the offending artists CDs in iTunes, right click and select "get info". This brings up a multiple song info window, and from there you can check if you have 'yes' in the box marked "part of a compilation".
If you have, select 'no' instead and click 'ok'. Do this with any CD that has this issue. This will alter the info in iTunes, and you should then connect your iPod and synchronize the changes.
The problem arises because the information contained on the Gracenote CD Data Base (where iTunes gets all it's album/artist/track info from), is sometimes incorrect. It can show CDs as compilations when in fact they are not.
You should also check that the songs have album name info in their ID tags.
See: Some songs don't show under artist on my iPod.
Once you add a second album name for that artist even for a single song, ALL the rest of the songs should now show up under that artist, even those without album names.
Providing the spelling for the artists is exactly the same of course.

  • Purchasing Explicit Songs from Iphone 4

I want to purchase a song labeled explicit from itunes store from my iphone but it is greyed out. I can't do a play preview and the purchase button is greyed out. The non-explicit songs are not greyed out.  There are no restrictions set on my iphone or itunes on my mac. Is there a way to purchase an explicit labeled song directly from iphone?

Sounds like what I was experiencing with my iPad. I imagine iPad and iPhone OS are similar, so see if this helps:
    Settings
    General
    Restrictions
    Allowed Content:
    Music & Podcasts
Allow Music & Podcasts Rated Explicit

  • Need karaoke songs I purchased to have the lyrics so I can put on a cd for playing in karaoke machine

need karaoke songs I purchased to have the lyrics so I can put on a cd for playing in karaoke machine. why bother purchasing karaoke music if the lyrics are not there? If you can purchase entire movies, why not music and lyrics? Apple should offer in iTunes but instead customers are going to other karaoke sites and spending their money elsewhere.

    Kitty,
Unfortunately, the iTunes Store does not sell karaoke tracks.  Any song labeled "karaoke" in the iTunes Store is simply an instrumental backing track.
By all means, check out the alternatives and buy from the retailer that sells what you want.
If you would like to make a suggestion to Apple, use the iTunes Feedback page:

  • ITunes / iPod Classic Mislabeled Songs on Album

I purchased from iTunes "Pearls of Passion (2009 version)" by Roxette and most of the songs on the album have erroneous labeling. The first song mislabeled has affected the bulk of the rest of the songs on the tracklist:
song labeled "so far away" should be "surrender"
song labeled "surrender" should be "voices"
song labeled "voices" should be "neverending love"
song labeled "neverending love" should be "call of the wild"
song labeled "call of the wild" should be "joy of a toy"
song labeled "joy of a toy" should be "from one heart to another"
song labeled "from one heart to another" should be "like lovers do"
song labeled "like lovers do" should be "so far away"
    Please fix this!!!

  • Song list issue

    Hello
Whenever I add some artists to my iPod (5th G), the tracks will be out of order. I have even added the track # through the 'Get Info' -> 'Info' in iTunes.
    For example:
    Name - H.
    Artist - Tool
    Track Number - 3 (of) 15
I have EVERY song labeled like that (with the correct track numbers of course). They list IN ORDER in iTunes, but when I transfer them over to my iPod, they're out of order. This is rather annoying since they are supposed to be gapless albums. I even made sure the song info was the same after I transfered it over to my iPod.
Some help would be MUCH appreciated. If you could even e-mail me ([email protected]), that would be GREAT!
    Thanks a bunch!

Try removing the Album Artist info on the songs in your library, then replace the songs on your iPod with the updated copies to see if that fixes it.

  • Itunes- home sharing creates duplicte versions of songs

I have my media folder location set to a network drive. All computers on my network have the same media folder network drive. When using home sharing I noticed that if I import a song not in the library it creates a duplicate version of the song (labeled "..-1") in my itunes media folder in the network drive. I assume that this is so that each computer could play the song at the same time. Its seems annoying and wastes space. Any ideas to diaable this "feature"?

I was having a similar problem and quickly noticed the creation of duplicates, and also found a problem with the Show: Only items not in my library options as well. It seems that it thinks that songs with the same name and artist are the same even if they are different albums (eg. live vs. studio tracks).
But - here is how I initially synced an empty library and playlists... First I choose Music in the home shared library and selected everything and Imported that stuff. That copies all the music. To transfer the playlists I went to the source computer and exported each playlist to a text file. (Secondary click on the playlist and choose Export...)
Then I copied the text files to the computer with the new library and imported each one (File > Library > Import Playlist...) On my mac it had no problem loading the playlist and associating the songs with the new ones in the library. No duplicates, no problems as far as I can tell.
This seems to have worked well for an empty library, but unless they fix the couple issues with the show all and show not in my libarary, this will be a major problem next time I add something to a library and want to sync them.

  • Music library after data recovery - ID3 tags all over the place

    Hi,
For a short time there i was using my external drive as my music library, while i sorted enough space ot run it from C:
However, that didn't last long and i was asked if i wanted to reformat the drive.
Using Easeus I was able to recover the mp3s. But they're all over the place i.e songs labelled as one thing will be something else, about 70% of the time. Also some songs randomly chnage to others.
Is there any method i can use to resolve any of this, without re-doing my entire collection?
    thanks for any suggestions
    matt

The best option is to recover from backup, but I guess you don't have one. You can also recover from an iPod if you have one:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9990366#9990366
Failing that, are you certain that the tags are wrong in the actual files, the tags are part of the file, so I am surprised if they were changed if you were able to recover the files successfully. It is hard to see how they could be messed up if the file is OK unless something else messed with them.
I am afraid you have a lot of work ahead of you. You might be able to use a tag editor to get tags from the internet - MP3 tag is an example, but I think the tracks need to be arranged into CDs for this to work.
There is also something called PicardTagger which is supposed to use the audio footprint of the file to identify it, but I have no experience with it myself.
