NO songs being copied to iPod-HELP!

(This probably isn't a simple, obvious fix—I'm a pretty technical guy.)
Okay, so I have a 4th generation 64 GB ipod touch running iOS 6.1.3, and a 2011 15" MacBook Pro running OS Lion (10.7.4) and iTunes 10.6.3.  I have about 20 GB of music, all of which I keep synced onto my iPod (except a couple unchecked songs).  I have a huge iPhoto library out of which about 6 GB gets copied to my iPod.  I have around 70 GB of movies, out of which I had synced around 20 GB to my iPod.  Plus I had about 8 GB of audiobooks.
All of this was already on my iPod and was working fine.  Occasionally slow, but no particular glitches and all the music and videos were THERE.  My iPod only had about 1.5 GB of free space.
(If it makes a difference, I always sync via cable, never via WiFi, and I don't use iCloud.)
A couple days ago, for no obvious reason (no changes I could recall), the "other" category of usage on my iPod, as seen via iTunes, jumped from around 1.8 GB to about 47 GB.  Then iTunes complained that it "couldn't sync" with my iPod, because there wasn't enough space.  (I hadn't added anything, except for having updated a couple small apps on the iPod directly via WiFi.)
I didn't bother trying to fix it until I found that my music on the iPod was all messed up—nothing showed up under "artists", "albums", "audiobooks" and all "playlists" were empty—there was just a full list under "songs".  But when I tried shuffling, only 360 songs showed up instead of the 4000-some I had.  (And to make things weirder, when I tapped on another song in the list, I then had 361 songs in shuffle.)
I looked online in several places and finally concluded the giant "other" usage might have been from an interrupted sync.  (Although I don't recall interrupting any sync—whatever.)  So I unchecked all my music, videos and audiobooks (just with the big, overall checkboxes on the iPod syncing panels in iTunes).  The "usage" chart on iTunes then showed that the iPod would be nearly filled with the "other" data (47 GB or so) but it wouldn't be over capacity.  I clicked "apply", and after around a 15 minute sync, the "other" came back down to about 2 GB.
This is where things went south.
When I rechecked the music (skipping the videos and audiobooks because I was in a hurry to get my music on there), first iTunes recopied all my photos one by one—not sure why; I never actually deleted them (although I had unchecked the box and checked it again while seeing how to free up space for "other").  Then, nothing.
I've tried about 8 more times to sync all my music, or just part of my music, or any of my videos.  iTunes goes through the whole sync process but copies nothing.  Says "sync complete" or whatever it says.  No music or video on my iPod.  I tried restarting my computer and restarting my iPod, after closing all active apps.  No go.  I even tried restoring the iPod from the last backup—(which, of course, was a backup from after the trouble had started, since iTunes doesn't give me a choice to keep earlier backups when it syncs).  That affected exactly nothing.
I am at a total loss for what to do here.  Any ideas at all?  Or any details I should add (ha ha)?
Please help!

An "other" that large usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.  Usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

  • How can I set iTunes to prevent selected podcasts from being copied to iPod

    Hi,
I have searched and could not find the answer to this problem.
Anyway, I have a 5th gen iPod and am running it on a Mac with the latest iTunes. On the iPod options pane, I have selected to update only the selected Podcasts. I am leaving the podcasts that I do not want on my iPod (but want to keep on my Mac) unselected.
Now although it is true that the unselcted Podcasts to not appear in the Podcast section of my iPod, the files are still there and can be found by artist, album, etc.
How can I get around this? Basically, I have a few gigs of Video Podcasts that I do not want to carry on the iPod but do want o keep on my Mac in iTunes.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Bruno

This was a change in iTunes beginning with iTunes 6. In 5, podcasts were their own category. In 6, you can actually see podcasts in the regular library so they are likely being copied over by some other playlist. You have a few options for handling this.
    • Set the iPod only to copy checked items & uncheck the undesired podcasts.
    • Sync only selected playlists & make sure each smart playlist has is Podcast set to false.
The first option gives you more control over the specific ones you don't want to include while the second applies to all podcasts, not just video.
Also under 6.0.3 there is an iPod Preferences button in the Podcasts section of Preferences. You might be able to limit them there. I'm at work, so I don't have my iPod hooked up to this machine to verify that functionality now.

  • ITunes says songs are copied to iPod, but they're not there

I'll preface this by saying I'm a newer iPod user (since March of this year).
I added a bunch of songs to iTunes tonight on our other computer that has XP. It said the iPod was updated and could be removed from the USB (first time it's ever said that, usually it says "iPod Update Complete" on iTunes, but "Do Not Disconnect" on the iPod). I go to listen to my iPod tonight, and none of the songs I added to iTunes are there -- not one. I'm not sure if this is related, but a couple days ago half of my songs in iTunes had the exclamation point next to them indicating the file was gone; search of the computer turned up nothing (most of the songs I added tonight were the ones lost).
    Is it something I did?

    Hello,
I am not sure, but please have a try
f your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter:
    -- Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management
-- Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”
-- Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused (Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” or something similar)

  • Purchased songs dont copy to ipod

heyas! my purchased songs at itunes dont update to my ipod! in fact.. i had them in my ipod but they dont know why were deleted (but i still have them on my pc and in the "purchase" folder) but i cant update them again to ipod!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you played the songs in iTunes for a few seconds? This will authorize them. Now sync your iPod. Do they transfer?
If not, make sure everything is up to date on your computer and iPod..
    iTunes
    iPod Updater
    Updating iPod's Software
If that doesn't work, in iTunes, go to advanced-->deauthorize computer. Now play the songs in iTunes. It will ask for your account information (from the iTunes Music Store). Enter that. Now play a few purchased songs for a few seconds. Sync your iPod. Do the songs transfer now?
Try the steps listed here as well...

  • HT2553 My ipod classic 160gb cannot be synced by my windows vista. the library is copied alright but cannot be synced into the ipod; HELP! !

My ipod classic 160gb cannot be synced by my windows vista computer. The library is copied alright, but the ipod cannot be synced; Help! How can I overcome this, please?

    Hi, Chris,
    I mean, when I load my itune library as usual and the syncing starts, I get the problem as described as follows;
When I try to sync, I see the songs being copied then I get a message, say after about 45minutes, that, itunes cannot read the ipod contents because the ipod data drive is corrupt. I have tried different things to no avail. It is very fraustrating, and if I may say so, very disturbing.
I hope somebody can help me, for I can see now that, many people have got similar problems and they haven't been able to solve. I understand this is a common ipod problem and many people have had to abandone their ipods after such problems. It is very hurting because ipods are very expensive to buy, and so to write it off like that is very dis-heartening.

  • Songs "not copied to the ipod because it cannot be played on this ipod"

After having my ipod stolen i purchased a new Ipod classic. When syncing my music to my ipod i get an error on a number of songs, "not copied to ipod because it cannot be played on this ipod." This did not happen with my old ipod which i purchased just one year prior. Why can these songs not be played on my new ipod?

"I bought this song on iTunes - wrote the song to CD - made an MP3. Then tried to copy the song (MP3) to my Nano."
Was there some particular reason you did this? I'm just curious as to why you didn't leave it as an AAC file.
Do you still have the original downloaded AAC file and does this play on the iPod ok?

About two years ago I bought an Ipod (4), recently I bought an Iphone 4S. I just want to transfer some songs from my old ipod to my new phone and I am not being capable to find a way in Itunes!! Any help???

    Just transfer them from iTunes.
If they are not in iTunes. connect the iPod, then File > Devices > Transfer purchases.
Then connect the iPhone and sync these songs.

  • Cannot copy songs from itunes to ipod touch, although I've downloaded latest itunes version. Please help..

I've downloaded latest version of itunes but still didn't allow me to drag the songs that I want to my ipod touch. Anybody could help?? Thanks!

    Hello Juminten Cinta,
Since you are trying to manually add content to your iPod Touch, have you double checked to make sure the Manually manage music and videos option is ticked from under your iPod's Summary tab?
If it's already ticked, what exactly happens when you try to drag the songs over to your iPod?

  • Songs are being transferred to iPod in a corrupted manner, please help

We have two iPods in the family, and both are suffering from the same problem with the same songs.
One of the iPods I have had for about three years with no problems.
On many transferred songs, the iPod stops a song in the middle of play and skips to the next song in the playlist lineup. This happens with the same songs on both iPods.
So far, it's only happening on songs that I transferred from CDs. However, these are not newly transferred songs, these are songs that have been in my library for years.
The problem occurred after I recently updated my iTunes to the most current version. To my surprise, iTunes rebuilt the library on my iPods after updating with the new version software.
It is after this re-write that the problems started. I also, around the same time, relocated all of my music files to a different hard drive with greater storage capacity, so I am not sure if this manual moving of files caused any problems.
Thus far, none of my purchased music from iTunes has been impacted.
When I play the songs on my PC from within iTunes, I have no problems. It's only when play on the iPods.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
How can I completely reformat my iPods to try and re-write.
Any remedies that I might look at?

I'm having the exact same problems. Many songs sound like utter crap (lots of popping and crackling where there was none previously), and more than a dozen songs are prematurely ending (about 10 seconds prior to the actual end of the song). When I check the play times of the songs on the iPod versus the times my iMac has in iTunes, they're about 8-12 secs off. I've even deleted the songs from both the iPod and iTunes, re-ripped the CDs but the same issues applies. I've also tried cleaning out the iPod completely with iPod Updater.
I hope someone else can validate what MrAceXPS have come across.

  • Songs copy to IPOD but do not show up in Menu?

Hi i was wondering if anyone could help me with this or heard about this before,
I am managing to copy songs to my IPOD via itunes, however when i turn it on the songs are not there, however under playlists there is a blank playlist with nothing in it?? When i plug the ipod back in the songs show up in itunes as being on the IPOD.?
    Any Ideas
    Thanks
    James

Sounds like ipods DB file is corrupt, try resetting it by holding the center and menu button for 6 to 10 seconds.
If that doesn't work you need to restore it with the latest ipod updater. Restoring will wipe it clean so make sure all songs on it are on the PC before doing this. More about restore can be read here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983

  • Error:  [songname] was not copied to iPod because the song can not be found

I know that from my searches, this topic has been touched on but I am unable to locate a solution. So my apologies in advanced if asked and answered.
When updating, iTunes tells me that some songs cannot be copied because they cannot be found. However, the songs are clearly in the iTunes folder. I also have a backup copy of my entire library and adding them back from that library does not work either.
Here is what I have discovered about these files: some are songs that were in an album by themself and then the rest of the album was added later. Some of the songs are in the format of .mp3 and some are in the format of .m4a. None of the affected songs are purchased from iTunes; none of my purchased music is problematic.
This problem seems to be growing. At first it was just one song, then it grew to 48 and then to 59. The songs play just fine in iTunes, but cannot be copied to the iPod. I checked the properties of the songs, and none of them are read-only. There should not be a problem with permissions on this computer as I am the administrator and gave myself full priveleges on installation.
Clearly there is something wrong with these songs that prevents their being copied. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
At the risk of getting flamed, please don't respond just to gripe about Apple, etc. I am looking for solutions, not commiseration.
    Thanks in advance!

Replying to my own post since I don't see how to edit.
I have some more information that may help if someone can determine the significance.
I EXPORTED one of the playlists that contains 2 of the above described problem songs. I converted the text file to a table and then noted that in the last column (column 27) that there is a PATH to the song. All other songs do not have this in the path. The path does not refer to the current location of the file, either.
The first song that this happened to does not appear on any playlists so I did not discover this.
The rest of the songs got "lost" after I added some old playlists back to my Library that I had exported. In one particular playlist two of the songs had the wrong path in the Location column, and neither was found. However, the rest of the songs had a blank field in that column and were found just fine. So.... I think I may be onto something, for all those who have this problem. However, the only way to actually do this without a supercomputer would be to make a playlist of all the not-copy-able songs, export the playlist and carefully look for that path data.
I would love to hear if anyone has tried this for this problem. I don't want to keep replying to my own posts, but I honestly think I cracked this "bug". The problem appears to be that the data in the database gets errors in it during the moving/addition of a song from another place on the system, regardless of the settings in iTunes. In my case, I consolidated my library, allowed iTunes to organize my music and I am a fanatic about spelling and so forth for song titles and related information.

  • More on itunes 6.0.1 songs not going to ipod URGENT help

I have tried to read every releated post on this but I am having the same problems as other but the typical solutions arent working (Its urgent because I am leaving town and hoping to have the new music)
When I try to transfer songs it says the ipod software is too old, I have updated with 10-12 updater previous posts say to only mount ipod when instructed but it never prompts me. When it gives an option for installing on hard drive or ipod I have tried the ipod option it says I need to have OSX 10.2.8 which I do. I have itunes 6.0.1 (3) which has solved other peoples problems. In other help areas it says to use the restore through the ipod updater but never comes up either. I am hesitant to restore and then have nothing work anyway. It seems as if the ipod is never being updated. I dont know what else to ry. Any ideas Please.

Jennifer, I thought iTunes 6.01 was only for 10.3.9 and above?
iTunes 6 requires 10.3.9+ for video, but otherwise requires 10.2.8+.
I had the same problem Jennifer mentioned, and what I did was as follows:
Go to Applications -> Utilities -> iPod Software Updater. Double-click on the updater in this list with the 2005-10-12 date attached to it.
In our case, it said we had iPod software version 2.2 installed, and needed updating. I clicked on the "Update" button, installed the software, and waited for the 'pod to reboot. Once it did, we had version 2.3 installed and we could transfer music again.
Hope this helps. Some people have reported this failing with a message that it found no firmware or something like that, but I know it's worked for some.
