No sound after 10.5.2 update

Hi, I have updated my PowerBook G4 1.5Ghz to 10.5.2 and now have no more sound at all. The audio icon in the menu bar has gone and been replaced with a white space.
And in Sys Prefs there are no output devices at all.
Anyone have any thoughts please?

  • No sound after IOS 4.1 update

I really hope someone can suggest a solution. I updated my iPhone 3G to IOS 4.1 earlier today and since the I have lost all sound - no keyboard clicks, music or alerts. Has anyone else experienced this and could you offer a suggestion?
    Many thanks

No sound for my iPhone 3G after iOS 4.1 update! Restored back to 3.1.2. Still no sound! (befor the 4.1 update, everything was fine).
Then I reset all settings, sound came back. But then iPhone started to freeze randomly, with increasing frequency to the point I needed to restore again. This time back to iOS 4.1. And guess what - no sound! Resetted all settings. Still no sound.
    Key points:
    * sound loss is software issue that came with iOS 4. (i was able to get sound back after settings reset but only on iOS 3.1)
    * iOS 4.1 makes iPhone unstable both on 4.1 and earlier versions.
    * restore has no effect (I never restored from backup, started as a fresh phone)
    * iOS 4.1 destroys your iPhone 3G

  • No web sound after 10.4.7 update

I am unable to get any web based sound, either on safari, firefox or netscape. No sound on quick time, windows media player or real player. Alert tones work, Itunes work, just nothing from the internet. This began imeadtaely after the last 10.4.7 update. Apple care was unable to help with this situation. All sounds works on the windows side, just not on the Mac side. THIS IS GETTING VERY FRUSTRATING! Is this happening to anyone else? Are there any solutions to this problem?

wow, that is very strange...well, i think that you should do a fresh reinstall of Mac OSX and only upgrade to 10.4.6 and then wait for 10.4.8...don't worry, this isn't that big of an update

  • IPad Air - no ringer sounds after ios 8.3 update

since updating to ios 8.3, my iPad Air has no notification or ringer sounds on apps. eg I'm unable to use the Alarmed app as there's no sound. The volume works ok on music and movies.
For 2 days after the update, the home screen showed the Ringer icon flashing On and Off on the home screen when I woke the iPad up. (it's stopped this although the fault remains).
I have held the home and power button and rebooted, but this doesn't solve the issue.
    Any suggestions please?
I only updated from iOS 7 recently as was trying to avoid the dreaded update bugs....iOS 7 crashed. So does 8.3.

I'm not 100% sure that I know what you mean by "reset/restore."  If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

  • No sound after  10.4.6 update

    hi everyone
Last thursday I installed the update 10.4.6 for PowerPC and after it, my ibook has no sound. At startup I can hear the "daannn" (sound at startup), but when Mac OS X is ready, has no sound, no microphone, nothing!
A strange thing is that in the System Preferences>Sound panel appears no input/output devices connected (that is, it does not recognize them). I think that is strange because at startup I can hear that sound and if was a hardware problem, that would not happen (I think).
I restarted the system over and over, I tried to re-install
the update, but nothing happened...just not sound
    Somebody can help me?

The "Archive and Install" option is used when the data on a computer isn't backed up. The data (the old copy of the OS and any documents on the computer) is stored on a portion of the drive and the new OS is installed. The old data can be accessed from the new system-->It's stored in a folder in the new OS.
Anyway! I'm not sure of the steps, but here's a few links to check out. You might want to print out the documents so you can refer to them as you work.

  • Screen flashes instead of alert sound after 10.4.11 update

After updating to 10.4.11 about 2 weeks ago I noticed that my screen flashes whenever an alert sound should occur. It looks just like the "Flash screen when an alert sound occurs" option found in the Universal Access (Hearing) settings. I toggled the setting found there, but even when it's set to off, my flashing screen alert continues to occur. I know a friend of mine who experienced the exact same problem, but he hasn't found a solution to this (minor, but annoying) problem yet either. I also talked to a "genius" at the local Apple store. He hadn't heard about the problem and couldn't offer a solution either.
Is anybody else experiencing a flashing screen alert? How does one get rid of it? Thanks.

    this solved it for me:
i checked my system alerts and found that the alert sound was set to some invalid legacy sound called AIM - probably left over from when i used AIM instead of iChat.
i set the alert sound back to one of the original Apple sounds and viola! No More Flashing Screen!!!

  • No sound after 10.5.6 update

I have a Mac mini 2GHz, 2GB RAM, & use a MiniStacker as the start up drive. After installing the update from Software Update:
There was a startup sound from the computer at restart but no sound on the system after everything finished loading.
System sounds are grayed out in Sound Preferences.
    No output devices found
    No input devices found
When 'Show volume in menu bar' is checked, it makes a blank space in the menu bar. Clicking on that space causes everything on that side of the menu bar to disappear then come back.
I repaired permissions but it didn't help. I trashed sound preference files & rebooted but still no sound.
I downloaded the combo updated & installed it but the problem persists.
10.5.6 broke the sound on my Mac mini.

That was a very serendipitous finding!
Command-option-P-N worked for me too - but zapping the PRAM (command-option-P-R), which I tried first, did NOT work.
After the initial failure with Software Update, I retreated to 10.5.5 and downloaded the Combo update in case I had to experiment, but the use of the combo had no effect on the loss of sound. I will be saving it just in case!
I had also repaired permissions before applying the update - this produced a mighty list of repairs but also had no effect on the no sound problem.
I am using an Intel 20" iMac, almost exactly a year old.
I would be very interested to hear why a few of us have had this problem, if anyone ever finds out. And an explanation as to why booting into safe mode fixes it would be reassuring...

  • Occasional soft sound after Windows 8.1 update

    Hi,
I have a strange problem. I updated to Windows 8.1 about two weeks ago. For about a week now I have noticed that occasionally my sound drops. I usually watch shows or something on say 20 volume. The sound suddenly drops and I have to turn it all the way up to 100 to get the same volume as on 20. I reboot my PC (which takes quite long now. seems I should have not updated as it came with a lot of bugs...)  I did not make any changes myself and did not install new sound drivers.
Also, my charm bar stops working so that also takes a reboot to fix....
    I am running Windows 8.4 64-Bit on an HP Envy 15 j063ei.
Has anyone else seen this, or know how to fix it? I am hoping there is a way to fix it that does not help refreshing my Windows because I really do not want to install all my apps and games again. I already had to do that once before.

    HI Gan_Javi,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP ENVY 15-j063ei Notebook and issues after an update. You might need to check for updates from Windows. Here is how to do that.
Click the Windows key and type change PC settings, and click Update and recovery.
click Check now, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates. You can also do this from the HP site under Detect my product click on the Find now button. If updates are found, click Install updates. To make sure all updates are completed restart your computer twice.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • No sound after 10.6.2 update

    Hello,
After updating to 10.6.2 my MBP 15 2.66Ghz no longer plays sounds from YouTube, iTunes, Spotify, VLC, etc, only the system default sounds like when you move a file to the trash! Besides I've noticed that when I turn my sound down or up via keyboard I get no sound feedback.
    Any ideas?
    Sorry for my bad english.
    Thank you!

Ok, I do not have anything wrong with my volume, persay. But I plug in my headphones, and it will go down. Due to the headphone adjustments, but then when I am done with the headphones. It stays at a lower volume! With 10.6 and 10.6.1, I did that and it will go back to normal... is this a bug too?

  • [Solved] No Sound after Windows 8.1 Update

I have an MSI GE70 and after updating to Windows 8.1 I can not get sound from any source.
I have tried updating drivers through windows automatic system and then through the MSI website. However no change.
Any ideas how to restore sound, without having to entirely reinstall Windows 8 and avoid updating to Windows 8.1?
    Thanks,
    Richard

I've resolved the issue for me. Instead of installing the drivers from MEI website. I got them from here:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS035939
Whether there is any long term effects of installing the sound drivers from a different company remains to be seen, but I have got my sound back. Hope this may help others who may experience the same issues.
    Thanks for help,
    Richard

  • No sound after 4.4.4 update

I just updated my 2nd gen Apple TV to 4.4.4 and no there is no sound. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've been trying for weeks to get my optical audio out to work after updateing to 4.4.4 and nothing I have tried works. I was listening to music videos and in between videos I updated the ATV and when it was done the sound was gone!  I've tried all combinations of Dolby settings, HDMI settings, TV on, TV off,  unplugged the ATV, nothing....  Sound through the TV via HDMI works just fine, it's just the optical output that has stopped.   I'm stumped!

  • No sound after iOS 6.1 update

My ipad 3 updated to iOS 6.0.1 last night and now there is no sound. Movies and apps have no sound slider neither does going to the controls after pushing the home button twice.

You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
Or you can try rebooting the iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • "static" like sound after 10.5.3 update

Hi all, using a MacBook (Santa Rosa), and updated to 10.5.3 a couple of days ago. However, I am noticing that after resuming from sleep, it will often happen that the first sound that is played will be accompanied with a hissing/static like sound, lasting for about a second. This happens through the laptop speakers, or through headphones if they are plugged in. The volume of the noise appears to be dependent on the volume control setting, if that's of any significance.
Is anyone experiencing a similar issue, or know of a fix? Many thanks in advance.

Yes, You should have a previous system folder after an archive and install.
Can you backup everything to a second HD? Or, were you running Time Machine (a good idea). If you can, then you can safely delete many things from the previous system folder. Or, at least enough to begin testing to see if your apps work.
I routinely do and A&I when I upgrade. Then I test all my apps (or at least the important ones and a sample of the lesser ones). I move the previous system folder to a spare disk and keep it around for a few weeks incase I need to copy something over (like fonts).
BTW, I suspect your start up disk is out of space, not memory. Again backing stuff up, particularly on a laptop is a very sound idea and also allows you to manage your stuff better -- older stuff goes on the backup. Despite some problems, Time Machine works well for this as do a number of commercial products.

  • No sound after Windows 8.1 Update

I updated my laptop ( a HP Pavilion 14-f027cl ) to Windows 8.1 a month and a half ago. I noticed that following immediately after the update I was having trouble with sound.
First, it was Google Chrome that would mute itself. I would have to go to the sound mixer and manually unmute Chrome. (Chrome would mute itself on its own).
And Today (December 22nd) My whole laptop just went mute. I can hear nothing. Nothing from Chrome, IE, iTunes, no apps, nothing! I went through every possible troubleshooting tutorial and nothing helped.
    PLEASE HELP ME!

More often than not when a device isnt working it is because the driver has become corrupted. Re-installing a fresh copy should help
