No sound after installing 10.5. Also no wireless after sleep : (

Hi.
Upgraded to 10.5 which is awesome coming from 10.3! However after doing so can't get the wireless to work....common problem I see from all the postings so I can wait for the fix. have upgraded to 105.1....BUT..........
After trying a fix that was recommended to fix the wireless log off prob which involved setting the powerbook to safe mode then rebooting, I am now left with no sound output? Also the sound icon is missing from the finder bar? When I look in system preferences at the sound setting, it appears that my output is in permanent mute can't de check the mute button? When I ask for the icon to be displayed in finder I get an invisible space made?
Tried finding and removing "com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist"; but could not find this file?
Please help get my sound back. Anyone else experience this?

Sorry, I should have specified. I tried all of the above, but this option. I was holding off as my last resort.
Good news is my speakers came back. The Bad news is I don't know how other than I let the computer go to sleep and plugged in the power. When I woke it up, I pulled my headphones out and my internal speakers finally showed up as an option in Sound again.

  • Satellite P100 - No sound after sleep mode or hibernation on Windows 7

    Hello everybody,
I am desperately looking for a solution for my sound problem on my PC after having browsed many forums that were talking about the same issue but without effective solutions either.
I am posting this message as I am having a Toshiba P100-488 laptop running Windows 7 64 Bits (after having upgraded the CPU) and which is using a Conexant CX20549 sound chip.
Everything is working properly and so does the sound chip thanks to a Windows 7 64 Bits driver installed but I noticed that after coming back from the sleep mode or hibernation, then sound device is still recognized in the Device Manager and shown as active in the Control Panel and the task bar but unfortunately, no sound is coming out of the speakers.
I have tried several drivers (including those of Dell and HP on some sites) but still the same problem.
Also, I have tried to update the driver from Windows Update that suggested the Conexant SmartAudio HD2 but same behaviour.
Is there any of you who would have a solution for me or perhaps a relevant driver that could solve this annoying issue ?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Fred

This appears to be completely a Realtek Software (Driver) problem, that has not been fixed well over a year after the issue has been brought to public ([Toshiba Forum|http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Audio-Sound/Sound-off-after-Sleep/td-p/173036|Toshiba Forum]) notice.
When putting the laptop to sleep and waking back up in a different power state than it went to sleep in, sounds stop working.
Example: +Power plugged in, put laptop to sleep, power unplugged, wake up laptop, no sounds (and no microphone).+
A reboot fixes this. This points to a software (driver) problem & not a hardware problem.
Putting the laptop to sleep and starting up again in the same power mode that was in effect before the sound was lost is one way to avoid this happening. However this appears random, sometimes it works, more often it doesn't, and it is often inconvenient to put the laptop to sleep again when it is noticed sound is not working.
The quick fix, (workaround) that seems to work most all of the time {color:#0000FF}(_[m-267849#267849]_){color}in another post on this forum.
This is a *TEMPORARILY FIX* to this {color:#ff0000}*VERY IRRITATING LONG PENDING PROBLEM*{color} that has been {color:#ff0000}*neglected*{color} by Toshiba and Realtek.
One ends up having no choice but to believe that the management of Toshiba does not really care all that much about its customers when they leave a known problem unfixed for years. That is sad, considering Toshiba's slogan is "Leading Innovation." A broken innovation is just that, broken, and a +real+ leader does not leave its products broken.

  • Mail sound after sleep

    Hi
Sometimes after sleeping my 5K iMac stops playing sounds from mail (all other sounds work fine).
If you go into the mail settings and change the sound it doesn't make any noise. Quitting mail and relauching fixes the issue.
    Anyone else the same?

    same here
    I had power nap on.
    I turned off power nap.
Now after it goes to sleep, it will wake up and still make the sent sound.
    good luck

  • Very loud fan sound after sleep when Ram is upgraded.

Recently I have upgrade the Ram memory from 1Gb to 5Gb with (2x2GB) FB-DIMM DDR2 667MHz from Ondamatica. Memory works perfectly, hardware tests were OK and i didn't notice any issue except one: after sleep, fans start to spin faster and faster (seems like a vacuum) to what I supose Is the fastest speed they support, during arround a minute or 45 seconds. That generates an intense noise but happens only when awake afer sleep, not when restarting.
I've done almost everything: reset pvram, reset SMC, change memory slots... And the issue only stops when I remove the new two Ram modules.
I've read about it in some forums, but no one solved it. ¿Any suggestion before I return the Ram to the store?. Could be a software problem?.

It will or can happen but you can reduce it somewhat maybe using SmcFanControl (2.1.3.1 - wwww.macupdate.com ) to keep the fans above default by 200 rpm. And run Hardware Monitor to monitor temps as well. They may be running much warmer than they could/should/ought to.
1GB and your system was on starvation express! ouch. 4GB is more of a normal minimum even. 4 x 1GB is nice balanced setup. 2GB DIMMs might be warmer, run 70C perhaps. And they use about 15W each.

  • No sound after sleep

I have the latest MacBook Pro, 17 inch.
After putting the MacBook to sleep, I lose the sound to applications like iChat and Mail. I don't know how to get it back other than restarting the computer.
    Suggestions anyone?

    ok....
    try resetting PRAM
if that does not work go about resetting PMU/SMC/SMU
check your settings in sound preference in system preference after your sleep thing....if that too doesn't work....man you should try out the archive install technique probably some system software has got corrupted .DO BACKUP YOUR DATA BEFORE ATTEMPTING ARCHIVE AND INSTALL EVENTHOUGH YOUR DATA REMAINS INTACT BUT THERE IS NO GUARANTEE .. Best Of Luck!!!!

  • Mail won't make new-mail or sent-mail sounds after sleep

I've had this issue for the last 6 months, probably ever since 10.7.3 update in May.
Mail stops making the usual noises after going to sleep one or two times. The weird thing is that it will store all the unplayed noises in a buffer and then suddenly decide to play a few months worth of sent-mail and incoming-mail noises at a rate of one per second for several minutes upon waking up. Apple was no help.
Restarting seems to solve the problem until the next sleep cycle when it starts up again. I did a full restore twice and it made no difference
Apple's mail specialist hadn't ever heard of this issue before when I called in September. It's not a game stopper but I worry it might be a hardware issue that I'd like to have fixed before my warrentee runs out.

I've never seen anything like this reported before. Verify/repair your disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
If the problem persists, proceed as follows:
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
    2. From the File menu, choose either Open Console Log, or Open System Log, or both, so that the Console application displays the contents of both system.log and console.log.
    3. Try to reproduce the problem, and look at the bottom of the Console windows for messages that could have been written there as a result. Do you see anything that could provide a clue as to what's going on?
    Now, try this:
    1. Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts, and create a new user account for testing purposes.
    2. Either log out of your main user account or just quit Mail so that it does not interfere with the other user account.
    3. Log in as the newly created user and set up Mail anew there. Does the problem happen there as well?

  • T520 loses sound after sleep

    Hello,
I recently bought a T520 and am having issues with the sound. When the computer goes into sleep, then is resumed I lose output from the sound card. When I check the sound properties in the control panel everything looks OK, but no sound is heard through the speakers. The volume is at around half.
    Soundcard: Conexant 20672 SmartAudio HD
    Soundcard drivers version: 8.32.18.0
This is the latest version according to Lenovo System Update.
Disabling and enabling the device in Device Manager doesn't help.
    Any ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    @benc,
Latest driver for the T520 should be 8.32.23.0.
Try updating it and see if it helps.

  • Lack of sound after Window 7 (64) installation into iMac OX 10.6.7. Tried to install driver from Snow Lepard disc (Cirrus 64).Wizard installed driver. No sound, Device Manager indicated that "driver is not installed" but also that the"device is working"

I don't know how to proceed. I didn't have sound after installing Windows 7 inot iMac OX 10.6.7 (64bit) After unsuccessful attempt to upgrade the driver from the BootCamp  file, I deleted the driver from the Sound and Game controlled hoping that I would allow me to automatically install the correct driver from Boot camp.
Now the Sound Video Game controller disappeared from the Device Manager
How can I find out which is the correct sound driver for my computer (The Speaker Properties only say:WIndows)?
How can I install it without seing the Sound and Game controller in the Device Manager?

When you say "manually download", you mean from the BootCamp File on Snow Leopard, or from the Internet.
My additional problem is that the "Sound and Video Game Controller" disappeared from the Device Manager when I removed the previous driver. I don't find the place where I can reistall the new driver.

  • Portege 3110ct has no sound after installing XP Pro

I'm a novice when it comes to laptops, so here is the problem: My 3110ct has no sound after installing XP Pro. Didn't have sound when I bought it with another operating system on, report says no sound device installed.
Does this mean I need to get a chip for the laptop or is it a driver I need & where can I find the part or the driver for this.
    Please help.

Usually if the sound driver was not installed you will get no sound but also a yellow exclamation mark should appear in the device manager.
If the sound card chip is damage I presume you will be not able to see the yellow exclamation belonging to the sound card in the device manager.
You bought this Portg as a second hand unit. Am I right?
So possibly the sound card is faulty.
The computer uses a ESS ES1978 (Maestro-2E) and ES1918 sound chip.
Check if you can find an XP sound driver in the internet.

  • No sound after installing windows 7 on HP Pavilion dv1710us Notebook PC

I recently helped my uncle install windows 7 on his HP Pavilion dv1710us Notebook PC
and there was no sound after installation.. i downloaded several drivers for the realtek high definition audio driver (R2.39, 38, 37, etc)
then i tried the original driver from the HP drivers page and installed it.
usually when there is no sound, there would be a red X on the volume icon, but when i installed the original driver from the HP drivers page, there was no more red X.. Thinking that the sound was fixed, I tried to go on youtube and watch a video... i see the green bar moving up and down on the volume slide, but then i can't hear anything.
So is there any realtek high definition audio driver compatible for windows 7 on the HP pavilion dv1710us?
Is there something I have to do, like right click on the application and then change compatibility settings?
    thanks in advance.

I got it to work with windows 7 32 bit. I just went to hp website to support and downloads section. Type in your model number, then select windows xp as the operating system. Then download the audio driver and save it to your desktop. After the file is on your desktop you need to right click on it and click properties, then go to compatability tab and tell it to install as windows xp service pack 3. Hit apply then install. Hope it works for ya, worked for me.

  • Is anyone else having issues with their sound after installing 10.9?

After installing Mavericks, if my computer goes to sleep, my sound stops working when it wakes up.  Is anyone else having this issue?  Is there a solution, is it an OS bug or is it something I can fix?

There are quite a number of people reporting this and there doesn't seem to be a permanent fix (other than rebooting and not letting your computer go back to sleep ) I'm sure it is on Apple's list of things to fix...and I know that's not of much immediate help.

I cannot find your audio driver on HP's support page, but I was able to locate this one, which is the same driver as yours, just the most recent version. According to what is listed, it supports Windows 8. Give it a shot and let me know if it works for you.

  • Satellite Pro 4600 Missing Sound After Installing Windows 98SE

I have installed Windows 98SE onto my 4600 whose specs are:
    Model PS460A-04163
    P850 14TX 128M 20 DVD ML
I have no sound at all and all sound options are grayed out. I have downloaded a sound driver from Toshiba (Yamaha AC-XG ?) but maybe it was not the correct one. Can someone point me in the right direction for the correct sound driver. I'm also not sure what "series" this model comes under. Thanks for your help. Sep.

Thanks for that. I have tried the Canadian site however the model type I have (PS460A) doesn't exist on their search selection drop down for Part Number. Perhaps it is know as a different model in other countries (I'm in Oz)? Maybe it doesn't matter and I can just pick one of the other 4600 models - I'm unclear on this. Can anyone confirm? Thanks again.

  • [SOLVED]Can pacman provide some sound after finishing installing

I usually let pacman download and install something in a screen and working on another screens. But I can't know immediately when the instalI finished if I don't return to the screen where pacman is installing something.
Can pacman provide some sound after finishing installing? Or are there any other methods are suitable for this? And I guess tools like wget or axel may need this.
Last edited by ArkChar (2012-12-05 06:30:35)

You probably can make a script that wraps pacman, and plays a sound (ffplay, ffmpeg, mplayer, aplay, whatever) and plays a sound when pacman returns. Better than nothing I guess.
    Something like this:
    pacmansound
    #!/bin/bash
    pacman $@
    ffplay ~/Music/pacman_done.ogg
I'm not sure if this works, but you get the idea.
